Android 4.4 Source released! - HTC One X

Hi everyone,
Here is the link for the android 4.4 kit-kat source. We can experience a new version of android . It is not a rom, is only the source to make a rom, hope we can enjoy one rom in a short time!!
https://android.googlesource.com/platform/build/+/kitkat-release

We will get it only if 4.2, 4.3 kernel can be used for 4.4. Else we will have to wait

The nexus 7 will get 4.4?
If the nexus 7 will get the new version it be more easy to port it to the HOX?
because the have the same CPU Tegra 3?
or i am wrong?

If nvidia has updated the tegra 3 kernel for android 4.4, I think that HTC is going to update the HTC One X to android 4.4, it can be the most sure updated, but all of us know what is the HTC update system.......

That wasn't the point. The point was that there is a nexus device associated with nvidia..
Edit: As i've understood the difference between t30 and t30l is not very big. The difference between t30 and t33 (hox+) is much greater...
Edit2: It seems that while the tegra in n7 is newer the one in our phone is faster. The t30l seems to be just clocked lower (cpu, gpu and ram)

Enjoy the kitkat version, because for sure that update seems to be really fast and amazing!
Hope the HOX can experiment that update soon, but not waitting to htc release, because they stopped our HOX updated!

no they didn't stopped...or better no one knows...we also could get at least 4.3...but we will see with time

Nvidia released the Tegra source for 4.4 KitKat, its now up to HTC to release an update for the One X, unless they pull another money making move like what they did to the Desire HD
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk

They won't make any move because they won't announce any update. They won't repeat the same fiasco as with ICS for DHD.

No as jellybean is only minor update really in terms of layout anyway. it would be 5x if it was a huge update. Like if they changed the UI

I know htc will not release it soon but I thought same processor can make porting process faster for developers of tegra 3 devices am I totally wrong?
I'm curious to see how long this will take to officially make it to our phones by OTA. Seeing as there's no UI changes really HTC don't have to change much with Sense, but I can still see this taking till 2013 lol.
No your not wrong. Porting may be easier because the soc is the same so driver's etc will be easier. Most of the work should be done basically since they both use tegra 3. But don't expect it till a while. Especially not from htc unless they pull a surprise.

Froyo was released may 20th 2010 and I can remember it getting it on my desire around mid juli, that's not to bad of htc. I can imagine gb to ics would take more time but the step from ics to jb is about as big as from eclair to froyo

Partly right, but there is a lot more than just the Tegra 3 SoC to require drivers for. It looks as if the overall system updates are fairly minimal (at least compared to GB->ICS which had big driver rewrites). We'll have to see how much can be reused from what we have for ICS and hopefully device tree changes will be minimal.
Might almost be time to start flashing the One X! :victory:
JB will arrive soon because Google announced PDT and JB PDT is already with major manufacturers so you should expect JB soon

Nice new feature in the JellyBean but I don't think that HTC can ever give us the same buttery smooth experience. One more reason why should manufacturers also make available clean Android OS at least as a optional flashable RUU. THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING. do it Google.

Not to be a buzz kill or anything but that wouldn't really work... You would need a new one for every device which isn't possible.. that's why they do just that (well, provide images) for their supported devices, the nexi. It would be up to HTC, and, quite frankly, that's never going to happen as i'ts not in their interest.

I'm very glad to see that they're working on the smoothness. Can't wait for the port!

The changes in UI would be pretty much the thing which bothers OEM the less...
As they do their own on the top, the major issues for them is the framework in the background (yes, there is an ecosystem behind what you see on the screen ^^)
So, they need to adjust sense etc to the new changes introduced by Jellybean (thinking of the new syncing and triple buffering) But yeah... Normally it shouldn't take long to make a fully bugged and craploaded sense for JB... but they will take 6 month min I'm afraid...
(Or will it be as on the Desire ? -> The phone is not powerfull enough to handle a minor update :silly: )

Sense 5 ROM?

This video shows Sense 5 on One S, now I guess someone could develop a Sense 5 ROM for the One X before HTC releases the update?. Or will this just be a waste of time to develop?, because HTC will release the update "soon". But I'd love to see a Sense 5 (not just Sense 5 themed) ROM for the One X

Actually, some time ago, HTC was the OEM that had the fastest updates. Of course, the keyword is WAS, so you are right on this one.
I think it's hard to port a rom from Qualcomm platform to Tegra 3, and that's the reason none of the great developers tried to do it so far. I'm not a developer, so I might be wrong about this.

Not being a final release Sense 5 ROM for the Evita - the Qualcomm version of the One X, it’s not perfect. Features like Bluetooth, the FM radio and stock WiFi tethering don’t work, not to mention unique HTC One (and now One mini) features like HTC ZOE photos aren’t possible.

Almost every phone is not as fast as ppl wants to, ofc its working super fast when you buy it but right after you install apps and games it slows down :/ At least with tegra we have some nice graphics in game and something diffrent then everyone

Your point being...?
As far as the Linux kernel goes, while they merged some patches to allow for Android to run on the mainline Linux branch, the Android kernel is more or less a fork of the Linux kernel to enable full compatibility with Android and ARM. Its not exactly the easiest thing to do, so of course the Android kernel is behind the mainline Linux kernel. Besides, whatever kernel 4.3 runs on will be the kernel that OEMs use, since the kernel base is already there and it saves OEMs time. Mainline Linux moves forward much faster than Android's yearly releases so you can't expect the Android kernel to keep up with the mainline kernel.

Given that there hasn't been any Android update out this year, no one will move beyond 3.4 until Google does so. What features are there in 3.6 that are absolutely necessary anyway? It seems to me like you want an update to 3.6 because it has a larger number

It all depends what you want from the device. I would go for the bigger screen and performance

One mini has smaller screen than the one x. 4.3" 720p

I would still go for the One X. Mainly because of the better camera, processor and the screen size, boomsound isn't necessary for me right now

I would go for one mini, its a newer phone and just better user expirience using it, and if you are not happy, just sell it and buy one x again with some spare money left, no brainer for me.
Just from the POV of software updates, the One Mini is a much better choice. As we all know the HOX has been abandoned.

But only a small bit. In the future, a new version of android will come out, only for it to be impossible to port it to this phone because of its CPU and the lack of kernel sources because Nvidia ditched it.

Nobody knows that for sure. We may get it or not. Devs build on old sources cm11 first and it worked so we will see

It's correct, but in past there are much devices, wich are no longer supported so much after HTC kill official update way. And for Users who love the Sense UI (e. g. me) it is better to go to a new phone from HTC to get updates.
BTW: i think it is better to wait a little bit (a few months) with buying a new HTC Phone. If HTC launched new One M8 phone, the old M7 will be cheaper.
