Guys, I bought a USB OTG cable today. Nothing special, but my GNexus doesn't want to work with me. No matter what I connect - USB mouse, keyboard, flash drive [w/ StickMount by Chainfire] - Nexus doesn't recognize it. Tried wiping and reflashing my ROM (CM10, today's nightly) but it doesn't help. I use Air Kernel, but flashing franco.kernel or using the stock one doesn't work too. It looks like there's no power in Nexus' micro socket. However, when I connect a USB hub with external power source Nexus starts charging. Any ideas?
Best,

Have you tried turning off "fast charge"?

You say that when you connect the Nexus to a powered USB hub, it starts to charge. Does that mean you have the USB-OTG cable hooked to the Nexus, then some sort of gender changing adapter to hook it to the USB hub? What happens if you plug the flash drive into the USB hub while the Nexus is "charging"? Does the Nexus continue to charge and you get access to the flash drive???

I just have a USB hub with a socket for power adaptor - it's nothing special. However, when and I connect anything to my hub while Nexus is "charging" it still doesn't recognize this device. I'm outta ideas.

Darn. I was hoping you had somehow magically discovered that the phone can charge itself while still being in USB Host Mode. That'd be absolutely fantastic!
Try it on stock JB, CM10 isn't even alpha. Plus, make sure any custom kernels you plan on trying support it.

I've tried CM9 stable a few moments ago - doesn't work.
Your cable is probably defective. I just bought mine, works great, but in reading reviews many people reported defective cables.

Just bought the second one - still doesn't work. Why?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1092493.html
Check out that link to see a potential cable problem.
The roms [cm9] and kernel [stock] should work for you.
Is the cable you are buying specifically stating usb otg on the package? If not, buying 2 cables from the same store of the same type won't change anything.
This is what works for mr.

The second one is different - I'n sure it's not the cable problem. Something with my software? I doubt it. Hardware problem?

I seem to get quite a bit of opposition to this but as you'll see there are links included..one from Samsung and if you look in the manual that came with phone, it also talks about the OEM chargers. Try disabling NFC then try yo charge. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1841584

Turning NFC off doesn't help. USB host still does not work.

Do you know someone else with a Galaxy Nexus, to test the cables and ensure they do actually work?
I've tried them on HTC One X - they DO work :/

It was suggested 2x in the thread to go completely stock [rom + kernel].
You stated trying CM10 and CM 9, as well as stock kernel, but you never say if you tested stock/stock.
Mkay, I'll try the stock JB tomorrow.

Accidentally thanked you.
What I'm trying to say is, AFAIK stock kernel doesn't support OTG. So try going stock then flashing a kernel.

Here guys I've broken my USB port for sure. I had it charging when it slipped off the table and DDT'd on the charger cord. I knew it was broken before I picked it up. Now I'm stuck using a wireless charger, which is cool, but doesn't charge as fast and now I have no way of connecting it to the computer. Has anyone had any luck repairing their's or a company that will do it besides Asus. Maybe a part?

I don't know about where you can get it repaired but in the meantime use airdroid to file transfer wirelessly to your computer

Hello everyone, it just happened in a sudden that my samsung note 8.0 cannot be charged using any samsung chargers I had tried to plug in. I can only charge it using my powerbank which I connected via a usb cable. Can ayone anyone please help me with this? What's wrong with it? Thanks in advance.
Are you using the original Samsung USB cable? Some USB cables don't work well for charging, for several reasons.
Greg
Are you used custom rom or official rom?

Try a replacement cable. The cables are flimsy and will allow the fine wires to wear and break. Already replaced 2 on my Amazon Kindle, before getting my Note 8.0. Right now I have a small stock on replacement enhanced micro USB cables for backup.

I never root my note, official ROM I guess, the original one since I bought it.
My stock cable screwed up after just two weeks. The micro connector was way too loose and didn't make a connection without a lot of jiggling. I replaced the cable (only) with one from one of my cell phone chargers and it works fine. Samsung saved a few cents by putting cheap ass cables on their chargers.

hi
read this it might help

I'm have no idea why Samsung packaged their type C 3.1 phone with a USB 2.0 cable and not even a C to C cable for higher transfer speeds. I understand why the Nexus 6P didn't as it didn't have 3.0 integrated, but this is just a strange move.
I'm pretty sure the Note 7 only supports usb 2 speeds.
At least the Exynos version.

USB v3.1, Type-C 1.0 reversible connector
And when plugged into my computer it states that it can run at a faster speed when using the 2.0 cable.
Took me about 13 seconds to transfer a 600MB file to my Note 7 from my desktop... I'm pretty sure it's supporting USB 3.0, but I'm using snapdragon
When i plug mine into a usb 2.0 port it says "transfers would be faster if you plugged into a superspeed port". Snapdragon here too.
