battery life - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

hay folks whats the best way to testthe bettery life on nexus flo
as i have been doing my own tests by removing apps from
/system/apps with root browsers i did a full charge dropped
4% in 8 hours thats been idle is that good
or is it better using a software to make it last longer

There is no need to remove system apps... It isn't likely to improve battery life.
A large reason you might see poor battery life is Google's location reporting and history, which should be more battery efficient when 4.4 rolls out. Turn those off for now and you should see an improvement. 4% from 8 hours isn't bad, but if the device is lasting you through the day and not dying or coming close to dying when you need it, there's not a need to be a stickler when it comes to battery life.

Omg My Battery Life Sucks

I Need Help My Batttery Sucks Balls .. Lol Sry but ive been using this epic rom on the newest modem and i mayb get 2 hrs or so on my phone .. which sucks .. how do i fix this ? the battery heats up sometimes while charging ... im sure its the both battery and rom idk?
Did you calibrate the battery? I had horrible battery issues on my hero and started calibrating battery with new roms and has been stellar can't link due to being on phone but search for battery calibration and you will find the post for proper calibration.

calibrate battery thread :]
I've never calibrated my battery and I never will. The phone battery life varies. If your phone is getting hot and dying in two hours, you have a rogue process.
Manage the poorly written applications and you won't even think "battery calibrate" because you'll see upwards of 36 hours of use on your phone.
Realistically, I get about 12 hours of heavy to medium use out of my phone. I do not use any other third party apps to manage my phone except for Quick Info Pro and even that is not used for anything more than status review. I handle memory management through the built-in Manage Applications, services, etc. On weekends, when I'm not texting a lot, I have seen 40 hours without charging.
If you only have stock and never install anyone else's applications, you'll see a huge difference in how applications (poorly written ones) can affect your phone's battery life.
See disclaimer.
Good info from othan, exactly what I tell customers who complain about battery life.

4% drain I'm just 7min?....

I barely got this tablet yesterday and already seeing fast battery drain. I don't have that much apps/games. I rooted it today in the afternoon but I don't think it will drain the battery.... What's the deal here?
This is my 10.1

There's always an initial drain that is rather fast due to the fact that the charging is not perfectly optimized, notably while it's new. Even though it says 100% it's most likely not the fact. On the other hand due to the large screen the screen uses a lot of power. When using Cyanogen for maybe 20-30 min/day I'm still at 97% the next morning w/o charging. But, I use a lot of mods and settings trying to optimize battery usage. Once you get used to the device and start experimenting with ROM's, settings, mods I'm sure you will find a way to optimize it to your flavor.
The tablet has to scan all directories for media.
Here are some really good tips. You can also shut off a lot of samsung bloatware. I have probably 50 things shut off along with below tips I get amazing battery life and never any lag. Not a fan of magazine touchwiz so using nova and couldn't be happier.

For a new device, you need to cycle the battery to about 10%, then fully charge, to set the battery meter "high" and "low" flags (some call this "calibrating the battery meter"), before you can expect the battery meter readings to be anywhere accurate.

so, the battery drain is real...

I thought people were just exaggerating (i still have hope that i'm exaggerating) but man, i just got this phone and holy hell is the battery getting destroyed by "android os"
It won't even last a day with minimal/medium usage (some bluetooth and hotspot use here and there)
I'm coming from a galaxy s3 (which had better battery life).
I've tried installing a 5.1.1 rom but it seems to have no effect.
Has anyone figured out how to 'fix' this? Or can recommend a good rom (or kernel?) to get battery life representative of what i think a 3000 mah battery should be?
Thanks.

Greenify and the .97 OTA seems to provide decent battery life. Getting about 5 hours+ of SOT. Try using a separate app to see which apps are consuming the most battery and disable all the system apps you don't use.
I installed a barebones rom.
What concerns me is i had the same set up on my Galaxy S3 (5.1.1. lollipop with same apps), and the battery life on this zenfone has just been atrocious (leading me to believe 5.1.1 is not the problem, per se).
Am I wrong, did they not optimize this phone properly or something?
I do not have any issue with batery life. Mine last one day easy with medium to heavy use. Just do some charging cycles
I usually get a day with 4 to 6 hours SOT, without doing anything special to save battery
Do 3 drains to 1 % - you may find it stays longer during the lower 20% range so use a youtube film or sommat to blast it down,
then do a factory reset on the latest build.
Did this at the beginning when was only getting 10hrs max ugh !
Now easy 36hrs decent usage
I get a full days use (medium/heavy) with mine, not rooted not custom rom. I usually have about 20% left before it hits the charger. I have noticed small increases in battery life at every firmware update. I can't really complain, came from a Galaxy S5 and battery was about the same if not worst, but S5 had removeable battery. I've used a lot of smartphones and honestly, most will get your through the day and evening but that's about it, yeah, you might have some for the next day but most will through it on the charger by end of the night. My wife has the Iphone 4s and yeah, the battery lasts longer but the screen is almost half the size of mine, screen size makes a big dif.

Anyone Else Experiencing Terrible Battery Life???

When I got this phone back in October, the battery would last around 25-30+ hours. I would take it off the charger at 6am, and at 10pm it would have around 40% left at least. After the February update, it started to go downhill. By the time Q was released, it was just bad. It's at under 50% now at about 8-9 hours off the charger. By 10pm, it's on battery saver and down to 8-15%. Like, it just went to total sheet. I did go to Q, but the battery life has been about the same.
I haven't installed anything new really. I've even been uninstalling apps to see if anything helps. GSAM battery monitor doesn't show any irregularities in any of the apps I use though. So, I wonder if the battery itself is just crapping out? I use the Pixel stand, and I'm aware wireless charging can degrade a battery quicker, but this is just ridiculous!
Anyone else experiencing this? Did you find a way to fix it?
I'm otherwise going to wait until DP2 to see if that helps, otherwise I am probably going to call Google for a replacement.
Also, I did a factory reset before Q, and that didn't help whatsoever.
Maybe the battery was new at that time so you were getting at 10pm around 40% left at least.
I used to get around 45% left at 05pm, which is about 12 hours from charging before and after q.
In order to avoid disturbance, iam charging it at 06am 100%, then recharging again at 02pm (battery level about 65) so it will stay about 60% at 10pm.
Iam heavy user, screen is on for long time.
I am also using s10+ and mate 20 pro, both have much better batteries.

If you think your battery is already on its way out you can download AccuBattery. Run it through a few charge cycle and it will give you an estimate of the overall health of your battery. This could help you see if your battery has gone bad vs the updates making battery life worse. I'm honestly leaning towards the updates making things worse. You could also have wakelocks that are preventing your device from going into deep sleep as well. If you're rooted Better Battery Stats is a solid app to help you detect any wakelocks that are preventing your device from going into deep sleep. Good luck!
My battery is not good but I wouldn't say its terrible . It drains pretty quick on standby so I turned off AOD. It drains pretty quick too during usage. I don't think it's a hardware problem, more of poor optimisation. I don't think the battery on the next pixels will be much greater even with a 4000 mah battery because Google relies heavily on sending information back to its servers hence data is always working in the background. Ads are starting to pop up everywhere in most of Google's apps if youve noticed.
Curious what would happen if you restrict Android system in battery manager, does anyone know if it's bad in any way?

So, I checked out Accubattery, and it shows my battery health at 97%, so, maybe it's not the battery after all. I'm still getting 5+ hours SOT, but I was getting that before while having the battery last WAY longer. I actually called Google, and they want to send me a replacement, but, all my funds are tied up in a home loan, so, I can't do it until we close... End of May I'll have a replacement lol.
Thanks for your suggestion though!

Good luck! But sounds like you get better battery life than I do overall! I have a brand new device due to warranty circumstances and I have to charge everyday. But I am a power user so it is to be expected, but I was never impressed with the battery life on the XL 3. Overall the 3 XL has very average to subpar battery life. Their refurbished warranty devices are also a gamble, ranging from ones with mechanical defects to large scratches on the screen!
Soo, Digital Wellbeing may be the culprit, at least for me. Uncheck the usage access for DW, then restrict battery and uncheck background data. Let me know if this helps!
I updated to Q beta 3, and my battery life improved, but I then read somewhere that DW might be affecting battery life, so I did the above. Unfortunately, I didn't wait a day or two to see if Q was the reason for better battery life, so, definitely try this and let me know. I went from maybe 15-16 hours of battery life to off the charger at 6:30 and still almost 40% at 10pm. My phone showed the battery would last until about 8:30am when I went to sleep. This is where my phone was when I bought it. Anyway, hope this helps!

Question Battery Drain Issue

The Battery Drain Very fast Is This Normal ?
I'm on Official 12.0.8 Global
This forum feels dead before it even came to life. Im no android pro by any means. I don't have any such issue but, please provide more details. When did it happen? After first boot? How long does it last? Have you checked in battery statistics to check which apps drain battery the most? What are they? And also your miui version
debloat thats the only thing you can do for now
Just writing that the battery is somewhat draining fast, leaves very open why this could be or whether it is just interpretation.
For me battery feels extremely well on miui 12.0.4.0 RKQEUXM.
Such that I can use the phone for two days straight under light usage and charge somewhen on the third day.
Provide better info, like screenshots of the battery graph and app list where you see which app drained which percentage of the total.
Or use apps that analyze further, like better battery stats or such.
You can also compare usage to other phones with comparable battery capacity, etc.
This could give a clue.
But other than that, such statements are rather irritating and the best suggestions are just, provide more info or do something general like, yes, debloating.
Turn off miui optimizations in developer options.its effect on your battery drain.i try it for my self
