Which recovery do you have, think that Philz have sideload option. Go to recovery, select sideload and transfer rom from pc to sd and then flash.

If you use windows pc, go to Control Panel and find Auto Play, in that you can find "Device" and changed setting " Ask me every time". If so when you connect the device with PC windows will pop up waning for "Formatting Disk" and just chose "cancel" only.

So you didn't wipe the system, you can boot into rom and use phone? I thought that you wiped everything and have no rom on sd card to flash, that's why i told you to go to recovery and transfer rom to sd from sideload and flash, obviously you have some other problem.

Just go into recovery and format the sdcard then mount the sdcard in the mounts and storage menu ! Why so difficult

That's what i meant

Sorry, This is going to sound completely noobish but how do I format the SD card in recovery ??
Edit: Found the format etc, when I go to format it says error mounting /sdcard

UPDATE: I dont know how this worked but I reinstalled stock recovery OTA and my problem has resolved its self. Thanks for all of the advice guys

Nice

after uptade to jelly bean when i plug the usb cable dont appear like in ICS for choose to charge or to hard disk.
so how to solve this?
thx regards
did you looked on pc also...? it can also be that you must update htc sync because of the mtb thingy.....second should be look for an sd speed app..and set it to 128 instead of most 2048.....
if that also fail...the data should be gone...maybe a wipe script that also wiped sd card or something like this
go into recovery and mount usb storage
hi

what version of cwm...htc sync updated..?
yes htc sync is updated and the cwm is 5.8.4.0.
thx
so from that side all ok...if you are in a file explorer...and go to sd..you see something...? if yes..try to mount from clockwork...if not work...try to copy the files with adb
Tough luck brother, if all else fails then deal with it. Many, including me, have faced the same. Good luck to you.
When you mount the USB mass storage in recovery you have to stay on that screen or it will auto-unmount. Once you've done that load up Recuva from Piriform and scan for the phones storage on the pc.

[Q] Any way to access phone data in recovery mode?

Hey alex!
Ok bud, first, which version of recover are you running Clockwork or TWRP?
If you are running Clockwork im more familiar with it as i havent used TWRP too much yet, but if so, make sure that you go into "mounts and Storage" and make sure the one of your options says "unmount storage/sdcard1" if it says the word "Unmount" in front of the option that means that your external SD card is mounted and you have another problem, if it says "Mount" all you have to do is select it so it mounts your SD Card.
Also if that doesnt work, go into "Mounts and Storage" and select the second to last option that says "Mount USB Storage" and if you have your phone connected to your PC, you will be able to transfer the files from the External card to your internal memory on the phone and then you will be able to flash!
Good luck bud i hope this helps, if you have any other questions just ask and ill do my best to help you

Hahaha i thought he meant internal storage. I know where the sd slot. This is the third phone i've rooted and it has proven to be the hardest or at least the most temperamental. Anywho the sd card thingy seems to have done the trick. It installs the rom and loads correctly now to find an actual working rom. Cyanogenmod is still too buggy to use.

CM 13 - sdcard problems

Hi!
At the begining as always Im sorry for my bad english
So.. few days ago i updated my S4 Mini LTE to newest version of android. From this moment I have two problems.
First: Formatting sdcard.
I don't know with one I should use. I want transfer files from pc to sdcard (and vice versa) and move apps from internal memory. When I formated sdcard as internal sortage I don't have access to it from PC anymore. Good thing is possibility moving apps to sdcard.
Second option (portable sortage) prevents me to moving apps but I have access to sdcard from PC.
Is there any solution to use first option with sdcard access (or full memory access)?
Second problem is recording video using lgcamera app.
Today I changed captured media location to sdcard. Now I can't record videos. App hang camera and I must reset phone. On default settings works good.
Installed rom: CM 13.
Please, help me
as i am around the forums ...

maybe you should check out the new permission-per-app feature of android M.
afaik the app needs the permission to write to the external storage.
search the web like: https://startpage.com/do/search?q=android+app+permissions+explained&l=english
I'll have same problem, cannot see internal memory(phone memory) or SD card after format SD card and replace android from 12.1 to 13. I made SD card format in 12.1 and after booting to TWRP. Does this rom support f2f -format or need use what? Maybe that is reason why can't see those, because i maybe use that format for some partitions.... Need check.
Problem is when connect to PC via USB. Cannot see any folders etc, only phone window open. I use Win10...
Tested also Win7, but nothing. Cannot see anything from phone. No MTP ....

afaik usb-charging is the default-mode if pc is connected via usb.
mtp has to be activated manually on M. (eventually every time at the moment?)
so search your settings/google for how to activate MTP after the usb-connection has been established.

Phone Bricked ?

Hi everyone !
Yesterday, I tried to install a new ROM (RR Android 7.1, the latest version).
I flashed the ROM with Gapps and rebooted the phone: I know the first boot is usually a bit long (15-20min according to my previous experience) but after 1h and no evolution, I decided to let the phone boot overnight.
This morning, it was still booting and when I plugged it to my PC and tried to transfer another ROM (to try again), it was no longer recognized ("the device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected")...
I also tried to plug the micro-SD card directly to my PC, it's not even recognized (nothing appears in the Computer window after being plugged, just the connect sound).
Drivers have been checked already.
So, basically, I have a OS-less phone that cannot receive any file from USB (mounted or not, MTP activated or not)
I still have access to Bootloader menu and Recovery.
Does anyone have an idea I haven't tried yet ? :fingers-crossed:
It's not bricked by any stretch.
First of all, you should have made a TWRP backup before trying to flash a ROM. You should always do this before a new ROM, root, or other mods; just a simple and golden "phone modding" rule to live by; so I don't know why so many folks neglect this step. If you had a TWRP backup, you could simply restore, have a working phone OS, and go from there.
When trying to read the MicroSD card, does you computer have a card reader built-in, or are you using a USB card reader? If the latter, try another, if you have one. They can be finicky, especially the cheap ones. You can even use an old working phone as an impromptu "card reader" in a pinch (I've done it a few times).
When connecting the phone to your PC, are you booted to TWRP when trying to copy/paste a new ROM? Can you connect by adb when in TWRP (you typically should be able to). If so, you can try to adb push a ROM, or alternately adb sideload a ROM.
Also, just FYI, if the phone is stuck for more than 10 or 15 minutes with no response after a ROM flash, you can conclude something is wrong, and go back into recovery, re-flash, try another gapps package (frequent cause of stuck boots after flashing an AOSP ROM in my experience), etc.
Thanks for the reply ! That'll teach me a lesson...
The SD card reader is built-in to my PC.
I'm always booted to TWRP when connecting my phone, just tried the ADB Sideload command but nothing happens (except FAIL). Is there something I'm missing ?
Try to reinstall HTC drivers, and whatever adb/fastboot tools you are using. Try another USB port, and another cable.
Don't see anything that should prevent adb or just seeing internal storage from working. Usually just a case of drivers, etc.
Another thing you can try, assuming you are using Windows, go into Device Manager, find the device, and pick the option to manually select drivers. Then pick the generic Android MTP drivers. I sometimes have to do this to get my home PC to "see" the M8 on adb or to browse internal storage.

By the way, when not mounted. The phone DOES appear in "Computer" window but can't trasnfer anything in "Internal Storage" and my SD card shows up as a ~16Mb storage capacity while it's a 64Gb model...

Well I can still browse the folders of the phone (internal and external storage), there's just nothing in there anymore.
I tried everything, thank you very much for your help and time but I'm still stuck

Internal storage not showing anything, may indicate the storage is corrupted. Try going into TWRP, select Wipe, and tap the "Format data" button; and see if that helps. Obviously, any data will be lost during the format, but I think we're past that point anyway.
Although this wouldn't explain why you can't see anything on the SD card. Internal storage corruption happens fairly occasionally. But I've never seen it coincide with SD corruption/issues. So that part has me puzzled.
