No, flash ROM from custom recovery first, then the boot.img from fastboot. Use a custom, not stock, recovery (CWM, 4ext, or TWRP).

I have no idea what you're trying to say. What recoveries have you tried to flash? How have you tried to flash them? How are you trying to flash the ROM? What is "cyan," ClockworkMod (CWM) or CyanogenMod (CM)? What is a "stock recovery .boot img"? You can't flash anything from the stock recovery. You can't flash the stock ROM's boot.img with a custom ROM. Recoveries do not have boot.imgs that you need to worry about. I am saying that you need to have a custom recovery, like CWM, 4ext, or TWRP, installed. You do that through "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img." You then need to download a ROM zip, boot into recovery with power and volume-down, factory reset, and install the ROM. You then need to extract the boot.img from the ROM zip you just flashed and flash it from the computer with "fastboot flash boot boot.img."

Device will not boot to recovery

Currently I have my GPE running the following:
Android version: 4.4.4
Baseband version: 1.14.21331931.LA02_2G_20.30A.4145.01L
Kernel version: 3.4.0-SkyDragon-V2.0.1-ga7f5909-dirty
[email protected] #11
Build number: SkyDragon GPE V3.0.1
I was trying to install the Viper Sense ROM (which I now believe should not have been done seeing as it is a GPE device) and in the process of setting it up went to change the recovery from TWRP to change it to PhilZ Touch as the ROM was trying to install. The ROM refused to install. Upon reboot and then trying to go back into recovery I discovered that my phone would say "Booting to recovery..." and then after about 20-30 seconds boot the device normally and bypass the recovery screen. Can anyone tell me what I can do to restore recovery to my phone? Let me know if there is any more info needed. The bootloader is unlocked and has S-OFF. Tried this about a month and a half ago and have not had the time or patience to try and figure this out more. Thanks
Try :
Fastboot ease cache
From the bootloader and enter the recovery again.

No change after "Fastboot erase cache" when I reboot and try boot it again in recovery. Just says, "Recovery loading..." still and after 30 seconds boots normally.

Ok. I had tried doing that before, but this time I ran it through fastboot and it managed to go through. The TWRP Manager app. GOO Manager and about 2 or 3 other programs failed to do it. Glad it managed to work this time

Flash Custom Recovery but Recovery is still Stock

So, I have the X9046 variant, and I've tried to use the TWRP recovery here.
I went into fastboot, did fastboot flash recovery <recoverynamehere>.img, with no errors. But, when I reboot into recovery it goes into the stock recovery.
I even did fastboot boot <recoverynamehere>.img, and it would just be stuck in fastboot, until I forced a reboot.
Any ideas?

If you're running ColorOS, there might be a script that's part of ColorOS that restores the stock recovery. Not sure. (It's a common thing to see in most OEM firmware releases)

Search for unofficial TWRP 3.0.2-22 and flash it with fastboot or Flashify. It is compatible with all ROMs including stock.
i've tried reflashing the recovery, it doesnt change anything

[Help] Phone is not booting custom ROM

Hello I have a Redmi 1S-TD running MIUI 8 latest China developer ROM. I have been trying to install TWRP for a few days but there's something wrong with my phone. I used the fastboot tools to flash TWRP and it said "Writing Recovery OK" but when I boot into recovery it shows Xiaomi logo and then reboots. When I boot into recovery mode after that it reverts back to Mi Recovery 2.0.1.
Also the "fastboot boot recovery.img" is not working for me. It always stucks at "Booting..." and it says Transmission OK on my phone but it won't boot into TWRP.
Please help I don't know what's the problem with my phone
Edit: it should be Custom Recovery on the title not Custom ROM

When I try to flash using MiFlash it shows Partition table doesn't exist.
Re:flash TWRP
Use stock MI Recovery to flash
download twrp.zip and rename it to update.zip
put it on your internal storage and boot to recovery
find and select update.zip then flash.
