Battery backup is over 20 hours easily with decent usage around the clock on 4.2.2. With minimum usage it goes upto 30 hours for me, so battery has definitely improved.
ppi is the same but if you are rooted you can alter the DPI yourself in a minute
app moving is available on 4.2.2 to some extent but I would be lying if I said it worked properly for all apps.
But look wise 4.2.2 is better for sure in my opinion.
The only reason to stay on 4.1.2 would be to install unofficial CM10.1.3 by patwip
On side note, if you are facing battery drainage on either 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 you can simply go to Settings>Applications>All Applications and "Turn off" the useless apps like Samsung apps and cloud syncs that you don't need or use. Most of them eat a lot of your RAM and have too many triggers

Most of us have rooted grand, but you don't need to root or wipe anything after the update, the battery drainage is from too much RAM being used, which is why i mentioned this in my earlier post

Anything that has a name (dont disable apps who dont have proper names like com.something), and you know you dont use it or is useless for you like live wallpapers, samsung apps, snote, splanner, google+, google books, music etc will have a "uninstall updates" or/and "Turn off" option which wont remove them from your phone but simply disable them and keep them from eating your RAM without reason

i am gonna try that! will report if i see any improvement...thanks

In one word, no. It lagged more than ever and plus, tha ugly "touchwiz" UI...LOL!

worth updating
I would say it improves the phones overall performance....yes the battery backup problem exists...butt we can use some apps to reduce the battery consumption...Lott of improvements including the lockscreen widgets...go for it....

[Q] Galaxy Nexus 4.2.2 downgrade to 4.1.2 :)

I had 4.2.2 installed official no root.I was not happy.First of all
1)Volume of equalizer and frequency control was buggy under 4.2.2 i could not move the sliders and do anything it seemed instead of increasing volume or the frequency it messed it up and did the opposite
2)under 4.2.2 i noticed memory leak, memory as hours passed would go over until the phone would halt a little.and application response was laggy.
3)WiFi tether did not work at all
so i downgraded after using the nexus toolkit,i unlocked boot loader, installed 4.1.2 rooted, installed recovery, and then
i installed the new camera 4.2 apk,the new swype keyboard and the clock of 4.2.
Now
a)volume is fixed and frequencies work OK on the sliders of the Google music equalizer.
b)memory leak is gone, the memory is released after applications are closed or used no more i have the halts after hours and i do not have to close applications or clear cache of memory.
c)have not tested WiFi tether yet
My question is why did Google mess so much the 4.2.2 ?it seems bad to me,4.1.2 with some patches is the way to go.Less lag, more speed, better volume, and all the features of 4.2.2 with the correct patches.
And i have some questions .Is there a way to use the new status screen of android 4.2.2 to 4.1 ?
Can i somehow skip the update screen that tells me there is a new operating system update?
I do NOT want to go back to 4.2.2.
My question, Why do people jump on the massive update bandwagon? Its an early release, bugs are inevitable and then people outright complain about them when no one is forcing them to update.
Can you use the lock screen notifications: Not natively. Third party apps are your only solution
Can you stop the update notification: Yes, there are a few threads regarding this

I updated because the update screen was nagging me all the time,i wanted to test what it looks like to have 4.2.I installed 4.2.0 and then 4.2.2 for a week 4.2.2 was ok,but after i noticed those problems.
The phone is forcing me to update, because it says a new update is there, all the time it is annoying. And Google is forcing you to update by the ota air updates. They should have better technical support, many people have posted threads regarding the problems of volume or the memory leaks, but they have not responded at all despite the fact that they are high priority bugs.
What I mean is, people on give updates this massive hype with threads massing dozens of pages in comments with people that absolutely need the latest OS update. I don't understand whats so special about bug patches that makes people insane about them. Personally, I'm still rocking 4.2.1 with no update notification and don't plan on updating any time soon. Custom ROM's don't offer you the annoying update notification as devs usually sort that out.
Volume and memory leaks won't kill anyone. A couple of nagging users regarding on the bugs wont get the issues solved any quicker, patience is a virtue. As far as customer support goes...its a FREE open source OS.

Volume problem is big.Having a phone no matter if it has 10 processors and gigabytes of ram is useless if you cant hear it well.I dont mean it should have the volume of an big stereo headphone but it should be better.
Memory leak, wanting to open email and have to wait 10 seconds is a waste of time.I paid money to have a machine that would have speed.Having such bugs really makes me feel it should be fixed. (now this is only a 4.2.2 bug that happens after some hours, solution is to clear data cache of some applications,or change wallpaper as i read in a thread)
And yet i noticed that you have 4.2.1 .If you want install the 4.2.2 you will see it has a memory leak bug being discussed by lots of people.
Plus music equilizer does not work.I mean sound,we use phone with our ears if it can't produce sound, then what to use it for?
These are serious bugs i think. But i agree with you, patience is the key.and having a 4.1.2 or earlier version more stable seems better than to kick in for the latest full of bugs
You should have noted the small speaker on the GN before purchasing the device.
If volume is such a large issue to you, roll back to ICS or clean your ears (sarcasm implied). Volume + works on that. I can hear mine perfectly fine.

I sent my phone to Samsung service and they told me it had faulty speakers, and they replaced them,i suspect large number of phones may have faulty speakers (volume was very low,not even the louder jb patch that existed on those forum could fix it),but now it sounds OK.My comment was that i tried to listen to music but the bugs in the os made it lower volume and frequencies instead of raising them,on 4.1.2 Google music equalizer works OK
I considered downgrading at one point.. We should be happy with our devices. Anyway, i haven't tried this, but at one point wanted it, and it should work to disable the update. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35426761&postcount=4 I know I got a little annoyed that i couldn't just ignore the update as i often do for a while.
Actually I did it too. My Nexus performs best on jo54k. The only feature I really miss from 4.2.x is quick settings tab.
3-4 days have passed 4.1.2 is the way to go from now on.4.2.2 is buggy. Memory leak is serious I wonder when will they fix it? The status screen is the only thing I miss but not so much as days pass .stability and performance is top priority now for me and 4.1.2 does it

Fully agree: didn't had time to notice the memory leaks, but at least the multiple bluetooth issues encountrered have been a sufficient good reason to revert to 4.1.2 and stick with it.
I have a question regarding stock rooted ROMs.can I use another kernel ?if I do how will I change the parameters?the stock ROM does not have the options other ROMs have.so if I install a kernel like Franco how can I over clock GPU or the CPU?is there a utility? I am asking this because I want to install the audio mod louder nexus billy jean it says to have a rooted phone but a kernel with audio patches .will stock kernel on rooted phone do?

We update because we have a nexus. Updates are available for us. Also how would they know what to fix if everyone waited to update? I don't run stock but even if I did I would always try the latest update. Thankfully I run cm10.1 so I have no issues and it gets updated daily. But the devs do a lot of hard work and your device gets updates. I don't see telling everyone to hold of on updating is a great word of advice.

Was it easy to downgrade? Did you use the toolkit to flash to the factory rom, and used the same GN toolkit to root?

Is stock 4.3 better or worse update?

I have upgraded stock 4.3 device in my note 2 twice but i have noticed that its actually worse than before because it take 48 to 50 percent RAM when no applications are running in the background. System also take more space in internal memory. Gallery is looking bad as compare to 4.1.2. You get many security message and apps get forced closed..You can only pull down notification bars by dragging it from center and before you can pull it down by dragging from top corners as well. You also had all setting in one page before unlike in 4.3 where they divided system setting in 4 parts
The only improvement i found was the move to SD feature which was missing before, gear watch support is useless for anyone who don't have this watch so how is your experience and what are the improvement you noticed in 4.3 update which appeared after so long time but did not bring much improvement
Your question is not clear enough. Better or worse in comparisin to which rom??
Well, it depends on which features you want.
I am on cyanogenmod 10.2 because they have some cool stuff inside....
Some stock features i miss are the easy share via wifi-direct and the calendar.
But brings the stock 4.3 the new 'KNOX' security made by samsung?
If it is true, then you will loose your unsafed date if you root your device.
This is the main reason why i have changed to the Cyanogenmod.
But if you want to keep the touchwiz and the samsung features, look for a rom based on touchwiz
I am on Criskelo 4.3 and even though I am not fan of custom ROMs and prefer to have stock rooted ROM and then modify it with Xposed, I must say that 4.3 (and Criskelo) is just great. I had it for like 6-7 days, of which 2 days I was installing/restoring apps and had to reboot several times, but last 5 days I didn't reboot it and it has been working like a clockwork. The battery life is roughly the same, but it does feel a lot smoother. And I am NOT saying this after flashing clean ROM, but after restoring all of my +400 apps. So I don't want to advertize here, but I am 100% satisfied so far and for me 4.3 is better in terms of performance than 4.1.2.

There is one more thing which make N7100XXUEMK4 or later worse - the KNOX Bootloader (or KNOX Warranty Bit in Odin Mode). If you're trying to root the device, the KNOX Warranty changes to 1, which means you will lose your warranty FOREVER. Even Samsung says the warranty bit can't be zero-ed. It changes to 1 when you are:
1. Trying to root,
2. Downgrading to previous version without KNOX Bootloader.
Hope this would help you.

I get 8 hour screen on time after heavy 3g/hspd data usage with display consume 70 percent battery and its on stock 4.1.2
And also how much RAM your system consume when no applications are running after killimg apps in task killer ?
Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk 2
It is not such easy as you may think... First i habe some other apps which restarts instantly,
and second - if you just compare the Roms by their battery life... Than i would commend for example the RevolutionHD TW based Rom which has a Vetter battery life (i've never used it, but they advertise with this). I thinkbthey made the Samsung release a bit Mord stable , too
I think that the ressources which our phones provide are enough, so we can choose a Rom with the features we want to use. In cm for example they have released a secure SMS encoding -> WhisperPush.
It is like everyone sais... It depends in your requirements...
When I update my phone because im rooted I always go into recovery mode and format internal sd card and update that way you dont get all left over files from previous version always best to do fresh update after you have backed up all you files

High RAM usage is not a bad thing. The system preloads some of the apps that you may frequently use, and when they are loaded to the RAM, you can open them faster.
You can also disable some of the apps that come with your stock 4.3 by opening the app details from Apps list.

MORE free RAM make multitasking faster and smoother otherwise why did they upgraded RAM from 512 MB to 1/2/3 GB..if you are using 95 percent of your RAM then it can slow down your device and tahstwhy we have task killer and software which release RAM
Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk 2
On the contrary - if more RAM is used that means system is using it to speed things up Task killers are not doing anything, if they did - Google would include one in Android. I now use Cirskelo 4.3 and my RAM usage is higher than on 4.1.2 stock. But ROM is faster. Noticably. How would you explain that?
task killer are garbage..the apps you kill will automatically start itself back...and that will wasting your battery juice.

I don't believe you have to format internal SD. If you erase CACHE, that should be enough. I didn't erase Internal SD and flashed 4.3 and everything works just fine. This is time-consuming and totaly unnecessary (to back up everything to a PC and then restore), and what's the point anyway if you're restoring? And if you don't restore, you'd loose all your data. games progress, etc. So I'd suggest first try without - if you have problems, you can always format it.

Still on 4.1.2

Anyone else still this far back? I'm on Eclipse 412. I want to upgrade, but I've never found a rom that works as well. Tried some of the 4.2 and 4.4 but haven't found a good one yet. Didn't try any 4.3 for some reason. I just keep going back to 412, but Google services don't work on it and I'm sick of seeing that pop up on some apps. Though I'm wondering if maybe that's a good thing since I hear a lot abt Google services killing battery and stuff.

Must be only that ROM related issue.
Everything works fine with the PA 4.1.2 ROM I've still been running for 18+ months, but I did have some temporary Google issues from using a black theme, uninstalled theme and it was back to normal.

BETTER in what way exactly?
Cause I've tested all the 4.2/4.3/4.4 ROM's and nothing seems to work any BETTER than 4.1.2 for my needs, which for me is too have as many possible controls/functions available from touching the lower half of the screen, w/out having to sacrifice any screen space for status/navi bars and while holding it w/1 hand only using thumb, be it for any quick settings or launching/switching/closing apps or typing or turning the screen on/off/unlocked.
Extended desktop in 240dpi tablet mode helps too.

im on resurrection remix (4.4.2) and it is so much smoother and faster than the 4.3 and older ROMs ive tried (PA and PACMAN). I heard LiquidSmooth is also great so I consider upgrading to that at some point and switch to F2FS while im at it
Plenty of roms have the option to customize that nav and status bar (including hiding it for slide in) as well as app launchers and various other features. I recommend checking out reviews of popular roms on youtube or something, to check what the are capable of and then decide on which one to pick!

Skip 4.3 if you can, it is horribly slow and heavy. at least go to 4.2.2 or 4.4 would even be better in term of overall performance and device usability.

i found 4.2.2 rom sluggish. i didn't experience the memory leak bug on 4.3. even the stock launcher on 4.2.2 was little laggy
Just stick with 4.1.2 if that works best for you. 4.2 is very laggy and 4.3 and 4.4 are so-so(not as smooth as 4.1.2).

[Q] Sony ZL 4.4.4 (.283) Worth Updating to?

could people tell me if it's worth going to 4.4.4 from 4.3. I want to know if most of the issue from the 4.4.3 kitkat version has been fixed now with the new update and how good is the battery life now? Any overheating or random reboots?
It's much better than 4.4.2
Smooth,no battery drain,better multitask...etc
I think .283 is worth update
I am using stock 4.4.4rom&advanced stock kernel

Ehh really?? I use my camera a lot so maybe I should just stay in 4.3
In my opinion... it does worth!
Soon after I had updated, I've already noticed the incredible change: No graphics lag! (No 2D GPU rendering anymore)
With two days of testing I had the conclusion that the battery lasts an average of 16 hours! Said "average" because of the continuous use of the device. I was listening to musics, using Skype in conferences, 3G/4G active all day long.
Conclusion: Feeling free of the lag from the previous update, and although the continuous use I got 16 hours of battery, and now it is not overheating and not noticed "freezes" on the screen. I can assure you it's worth the update!
the launcher for mine seems laggy, notification pull down still laggy, though battery seems strong now and overheating is over with.... i thought they got over this lag, in 4.4.4, but for mine still seems to be here.. makes me miss 4.3 that so much...
4.4.2 was so bad, I had went back to 4.3.... Upgraded to 4.4.4 and its great.... no issues... battery life is about the same as 4.3... its smoother than 4.3, and phone temp range is about the same as 4.3.... overall its pretty good
xperia zL
Hi guys, could anyone tell me if im going to update my xperia zL to the latest version of android 4.4.4 kitkat, would be the root access of my phone will be gone? Please help, i cant decide if i should update it or not. Thanks!
my software download was interrupted at 21% progress. had to resume later on.. could this be the reason why my firmware seems to botched and laggy? Do i need to download from start to finish without interruption to ensure a smooth installation?

Yes you will lose root. Maybe if you OTA from 4.4.2 rooted it will remain, but I'm not sure.
But it doesn't matter, because you can easily re-root 4.4.4 by flasing 4.4.2 kernel and rooting, then going back to 4.4.4 kernel .
Yeah I found pictures has more noises at 4.4.4
But without battery drain & high temperature it still worth updated

Finally someone noticed the noise
well worth it...
I updated from 4.4.2 and was using wake lock killer to protect the battery.
After the normal update and playing on Saturday...
Well unpluged at 10:00 AM today (Sunday) and at 10:30 PM I still have 47%, with lots of web browsing, on and off the wifi etc.
I have not really looked into the camera, but for me OK is good enough, so I expect to stay here untill we get a "L" update ... CM 12 maybe...
Hi everybody,
i am on [ROM] [4.4.4] ParanoidAndroid 4+ right now (rooted/unlocked Bootlaoder) and due to some bugs i want to try the .283 stock. Do i have to do anything else than flashing the new software via flashtool, e.g. wipe something? Never went back to a stock rom with my ZL...
Greetz
4.4.2 is bad and not smooth.
4.4.4 is awesome and really smooth.
Worth updates.

Didn't lose root on the OTA.
i personally prefer 4.3. the 4.4 notification/quick settings drop down menu design just doesn't do it for me.

I agree. I cant See any, I say again, any improovment in 4.4. In 4.3 the menu design was far more better. All phone are smoothly in 4.3.
Even the keyboard on 4.4 lags.
I made an upgrade directly from 4.3 to 4.4 and lags. I did a factory reset and lag is continually. Simply like keyboard lags a lot and irritating...
Now I have to search on the forum how to back to 4.3. Anyone can put a link to it?
Tks

Ok to upgrade OS on 3G galaxy tab 3 7.0 model?

Hi.
Sorry for the double post. Didn't get a response in other thread.
I have a galaxy tab 3 7 inch with 4.1.2. Is it a good idea to upgrade the OS? I'm worried it may affect performance negatively. I know that 4.3 included trim support which should improve performance but thought I'd check here.
Thanks in advance.
Which model is yours? t211, t210, t111, t110, etc...
Though it wont decrease performance anyways.

And you are still using 4.1.2!!
upgrade to 4.4.2 and you can install Nolekat v1.1 over it, then install warewolf kernel v008, and then install gapps(whichever you like).
Then debloat it with any way you like.
works MUCH MUCH better then 4.1.2.
PM me if you wish some more explanation.
I'd like to stick with official roms if possible. I heard that it caused stability problems for someone with apps crashing frequently so trying to get some more info on what other people think.

other people think its the best action to upgrade. its your choice if you wish to stay on 4.1.2 or upgrade to 4.4.2 and install some tweaks to improve performance. if you ask my opinion, I would recommend to install the nolekat1.1 and warewolf kernel and then debloat.
and if you still wish to stay on stock, thats fine enough, at least debloat the stock rom for faster performance.
personal experience, i could not use the stock system with whatsapp, hangouts and a few more apps installed and using those almost daily, as it would be so slow to open any app.
And now, i can certainly use my device. My battery drains like 20%(still have 80%) in the whole day with like 1 hour of talk time and 1 hour of general internet usage.
And for the apps crashing problem, i am not sure who told you that, but i have not experienced any app crash that SHOULD not happen.
Okay. Thanks for the info. Appreciate it.
