Help needed: Auto Rotate failed on Nexus 7 FLO - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

My 2013 Nexus 7's auto rotation suddenly stopped working last Tuesday within the space of about 10 or 20 seconds. I rotated to portrait from landscape to read an article, then tried to rotate back to landscape for a different article but was not able to do so. I didn't do anything else at all in between the two articles.
My auto rotation is stuck in portrait, but is not locked in quick settings, and my ROM settings enable auto rotation for 0, 90 & 270 degrees. I've tried wiping dalvik & cache, wiping to factory defaults and even completely wiping the entire device storage then re-installing the original, non-rooted stock ROM. The problem is the same booted in safe mode.
I've tried the "Ultimate Rotation" app from the Play Store. I've tested different non-stock AOSP and AOKP ROMs (slim, infamous and plain vanilla; all from clean, full wipe installs) . I've tried Nova, Apex and stock launchers. Nothing has worked so far, though I can manually change and lock it to forced landscape or portrait mode using the Ultimate Rotate app.
The Google group for Nexus devices is a vacuum in terms of any help or real answers to the numerous posts about the exact same problem from Google.

As an initial troubleshooting step, does your gyroscope work in other apps, like games?

Nope. Totally dead.

same problem

Auto rotation not working

So I'm having a pretty weird problem with my phone. Auto rotate is not working pretty much system wide. The screen won't rotate in the browser, YouTube messaging app, or for nova launcher
Interestingly enough, the only place rotation seems to work is in the camera app, which changes orientation without a problem. Games like temple run which use the gyroscope also work fine, so I suspect this isn't a hardware issue.
I'm running cm10, have wiped and did a clean install and still have the same problem. I have also tried flashing a touchwiz rom and auto rotate was not working on that rom either.
Anyone have any idea what might be going on?
not sure what the problem is but im having a problem with the auto rotate not working in the gallery app and im looking for a fix everything else is rotating just fine and ive attempted to recalibrate the gyroscope but have had no luck with it correcting my issue so you aint the only 1 out there with a minor migraine.

[Q] Auto rotation stops working once per day

I'm guessing this is just an issue with my particular tablet, as I can't seem to find anything to suggest this is a widespread issue, but I just thought I would ask anyway if anyone else has had this issue?
Basically, about once a day the rotation just stops working, usually stuck in portrait. A reboot always sorts it, however, it usually goes again in 12 - 36 hours, with no apparent cause that I can see.
I've done multiple factory resets including wiping and NOT restoring the apps, but to no avail.
Anyone else ever had this issue? (Although I think I probably already know the answer).
FWIW, totally stock 4.4.2.
Try flashing a stock rom. Flash different kernels. Worked for me. Before I was using an app called rotate to lock me in landscape when my tablet would not auto rotate.

[Q] T-Mobile S4 (M919) after 4.4.2 update won't rotate screen

Even when I toggle the screen rotate button in quick settings or the display settings, the phone seems to be stuck in portrait view. Can't get landscape view to after ever since I update from 4.3 to 4.4.2. I've tried rebooting multiple times.
I have the official TW ROM (albeit rooted with CF).
Anyone experiencing this same issue?
Solved
FYI, After some research I found a solution.
The issue has to do with deleting Samsung Hub app (instead of just freezing), which seems to break screen rotation. I copied the steps in the link below to copy libgnustl_shared.so into system/lib, set permissions, and reboot.
BAM! Screen rotation now works.

Auto rotation don't working on some apks

What's up, my note 5 has been failing auto rotation for 2 or 3 weeks ago, but where I have only noticed it, is on Youtube and on the camera and gcam apks. I saw a solution in Miui forums, that they proposed to enter the engineering settings, and reset the gyroscope. When I do it works fine for a few hours, but then it fails again. In other applications it works perfect. My system is Xiaomi.eu v11 stable.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: after rebooting the phone, auto rotation works again, but fails after some time.

Strangest thing occurred

It first started with doing an update all to all apps in the google play store. I clicked on update all then the google play store crashed. I tried to open the application, but kept saying google play store keeps stopping. I then cleared data and cache from settings and that still didn't work. I then rebooted into Safe mode to see if there where any rogue apps. Found the issue then rebooted. Upon rebooting. My settings all went to default. This included my hex builds being completely wiped, default keyboard was changed to Samsung, wallpapers went to the default, my launcher was set back to ONE UI ( currently use nova ). This really isn't a big issue since it took me less than 5 minutes to bring everything back to normal. Is there any logical reason to why this would happen? Did Safe mode trigger something?
It is the incompatibility between some of the hex build(a) and latest updates. You now know how to recover from such occurence
3rd party launchers
Hyperion boot looped my Note 10+ twice, full reloads.
Prior to that it was less than stable... trashware
The native Samsung launcher is faster and stable than any of the 3rd party launchers I tried including Nova.
One UI is AOK.
No more crashes or boot loops... no more 3rd party launchers for me.
The only thing that annoys me is the white icon lettering. Everything else I can mod with the Good Lock apks and such; stable, low resource usage and the work/look great.

What was the original issue? Without knowing that it is kind of hard to guess what would have caused everything else.

I think it was safe mode that caused the other "problem." I booted my Verizon Note 10+ 5G into safe mode, then rebooted back to normal. I use Microsoft Launcher (Preview) and when it rebooted it was set to OneUI. I opened up Microsoft Launcher and set that as default and everything was back to normal.
Since this is the first time I booted into safe mode on my phone, I can't tell if that is normal or not.
P.S. There were a few other things I had to fix after rebooting into normal mode. It reset the defaults to a few other things like the default browser and dialer.
