Hi there
I recently got a new router with dual antenas, that has concurrent 2.4 and 5.0 ghz wifi running.
When i got it, i connected my xperia z1, nexus 7 fhd, and my 3 gf's gadgets (notebook, ipad 3 and galaxy s4) to the 5.0 ghz wifi (that one is running in N only mode).
A chromecast and a wd live tv box to 2.4ghz.
Yesterday, i came back home, and my Nexus 7 was not connected to wifi.
It no longer sees it, even if i set it to 5.0 ghz only in the advanced settings.
I am kinda lost
No amount of router or tablet reboots fixed it, and other devices connect fine... the tablet just says it is out of range.
Hi,
I had the same problem not long ago.
Solved it by manually setting the 5.0 ghz channel from Auto to 36.
Channel 40, 44, and 48 seem to also work fine for my Nexus7.
I found that when it was on Auto, it was actually assigned channel 149.
Hope that helps.

I was wondering if anyone else was having a problem connecting to 5Ghz networks on their GN.
I have an Airport Extreme Dual band base station and my phone can only connect to the 2.4Ghz band.
Using Wifi analyzer I can see my 5Ghz network but trying to connect to it does nothing, if I set the wifi mode to 5Ghz only in Settings->wifi->advanced my network doesn't show up at all.
Anyone else expercing a similar issue? This is on a GSM Nexus with the 4.0.2 Yakuju build.
Can't say I've had a problem. Stock or Rooted, I was able to connect to my "5G" wireless connection. I was surprised to see it appear in the available networks.
Sorry man, no. I've connected to two different routers via 5g. One Netgear, one Asus.

No problems here connecting to Linksys e4200 5ghz.

I have a NETGEAR- N600 Wireless-N Dual Band Router with 4-port Gigabit Switch with no issues connecting.
Galaxy Nexus only connects on channels 36, 40, 44 and 48 on the 5Ghz band. You need to go into your router settings and change it from whatever it is right now (typically auto) to one of the numbers I just listed.
Anyone know why this has been limited to so few channels?
I know there are various regulatory reasons but the phone should be choosing the ranges relevant to my locale which are far higher than what I seem to be getting.

No issues here with my 5Ghz router. I have a dual band router and it picks up both bands.
I used to see my neighbors 5ghz network. It seems once I flashed the new Verizon baseband/radio that I can't anymore. I was standing above it and couldn't see it.
I'm thinking of buying one because houses are close together in my neighborhood and I can pick up dozens of networks. They all trample each other. My neighbor doesn't even use his.

Yeah anyone know why it's limited like that? My router is on channel 157 (not sure why) and although I could change it I don't see why I would need to
I also have a fourth generation of Apple's Airport Extreme, and I actually set up a separate network only on 5Ghz. Connecting perfectly fine on my GN, never had a single issue.
if you still having connecting issues, make sure to use AES instead of TKIP security.
5Ghz Wifi problems ? !
Hello
I have these Problems too.
Im now for 2 Month an owner of the SGN GSM, no connection problems since then.
But now since 3 days im unable to connect with my AVM Fritz 7390 WLAN Router and the 5GHZ on Channel 36 or 40 whatelse, the 2,4 Ghz works properly.
Im now on the Baseband i950XXKL1. But also with the Baseband XXKK6 no luck to connect
I just started getting these problems lately too, it used to connect no problem
5GHz worked fine for me on default settings with 4.0.1.
As soon as I upgraded to 4.0.2 (or later) it ceased to work.
Code:
I/wpa_supplicant( 281): wlan0: Authentication with <mac address> timed out.
I/wpa_supplicant( 281): wlan0: Trying to associate with <mac address> (SSID='ThePad50' freq=5200 MHz)
I/wpa_supplicant( 281): wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-ASSOC-REJECT status_code=16
Please star this issue if you're affected: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=22474
Edit: It's not a channel issue.
Try disabling security altogether just to see if it works.

FWIW, my Stock Verizon 4.0.2 GNexus has no problem connecting to my E4200 Router on 5GHz on Channel 161.
Don't know how or why; just does.
I'm not having any problems connecting to 5 gHz frequency on the netgear 3400

that is wired
mine will only 36 40 44 48 and all >48 are not visible -.-
also whenever multichannel n is active the GN seems to fail to connect, since I can only select the main channel then and not the subchannels
the REGzone is set to EU but that does not seem to fix it at all
I wonder if anyone else besides you can confirm a connection on a channel other than 36 40 44 48
Hi all
My N7100 doesn't want to work with 5GHz WiFi at all. There is no option like that.
Event WiFi analyzer cannot switch to 5GHz and works only with 2.4GHz.
This happens regardless of any ROM or kernel I tried. AOSP, stock, CM10, CM10.1, combined...
I thing it's a kind of limitation in software. But I tried many ROMs and kernels. Do we have any radios/modems to flash separately?
Thanks
Wi Fi 5GHz on AP
I think there should be a 5GHz WiFi output from your AP also to connect with your 5GHz WiFi, correct me if am wrong.
I'm not talking about connecting to 5GHz.
The scan doesn't work...
WiFi analyzer allows to scan 2.4 or 5 GHz ranges. You can swap between two, but with my Note 2 I cannot change band, it always locked at 2.4GHz.
I'd be happy if anyone verified with WiFi analyzer is he can scan 5GHz band.
i have cisco e4200 set with different ssid for 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz. my ipad mini can detect and connect to 5 ghz one but my laptop (asus a55vm) and gnote2 cannot even detect it. updated the router's fw but no dime. so, i was wondering if the my laptop and note2 really support 802.11n at all?!?
no solution or no one even bother to connect to 5 ghz?
No 5GHz
I have the same problem I cannot see the 5GHz Network from my note 2 but I have no problem from my laptop and other clients.
Searching the web I found that the Mac Book Pro has the same problem with some 5 ghz Networks and they require the router to be on a specific channel:
channel 48.
Could this be the same problem with the Samsung Note 2?
Could it be that the radio only accept certain channels on the 5 gigahertz Network ?
I'm not at home but next week, when I go back, I will try to set the router to a more central channel like the 48.

I can see both on mine with wifi analyzer but there is no option to specify bands. apparently Samsung took that out.

In my case I can chose which bands to scan with WiFi Analyzer but then it only shows 2.4GHz networks.
Please, please, please...
Anyone? any help??
Tommaso
You may just be missing the button (which helpfully disappears when you're not messing with the UI). Upper left corner, there's the little Wifi Analyzer icon, just to the left of the text "Wifi Analyzer".
Poke the little area of blackness in between the Wifi Analyzer logo and the -30 dbm label on the chart.
That (normally-invisible) button toggles it between 2.4 and 5 GHz.
I can scan and use 5 GHz fine on my note 2 (my AP at home does 2.4 and 5 GHz at once, and the note 2 can connect to either one). The AP is on channel 149; haven't tried others.
@ tpeef
Thanks for jumping in. I appreciate your help!
I can see that button and I can toggle it. However I see all the 2.4GHz networks but none of the 5GHz.
In a Starbucks cafe I saw and connected to a network with "5" next to it but I didn't have time to check (with my laptop) if actually was 5GHz or just called "xxxxxxx 5".
Could it be that my 5GHz network channel is outside my device's radio's hardware/OS specs? If so, how can I modify the device's specs?
Tommaso
Try the lowest 5 GHz channel.

I had to change the 5GHz channel to the lowest available (36) before my phone would see the SSID.
To get Wifi Analyzer to scan the 5GHz channels tap the upper left hand corner below the icon and above the -30 dBm.

According to WiFi-Analyzer, the Note II can only see 5GHz channels 36-44.
Thanks Rusty Wedges !!!
Ran across your statement, scanned with WiFi Analyzer and seen my 5g channel was up in the 140's I think, and then went into my Asus router, changed it from auto channel to 30 (or whatever the lowest value is) then rebooted my router, and then my phone. Told my phone to forget the network, then re-entered my 5g network credentials and VOILA !
I knew it had to be something like this because when I initially set up my router I was connecting to 5g no problem. Then it just stopped. At least I also discovered I am the only person around with 5g too. Loving seeing link speeds at 150Mbps, thanks again !
Hi,

Try changing the 5 GHz channel on the router. I have 5 GHz at home, but I had to change the channel to a lower one for the phone to see it.
Hi
I recently bought my new Nexus 5X, but apparently it does not detect my home WiFi. I tried connecting to my WiFi using Connectify or a hotspot from other mobile; which it detects, but says 'Connected, no internet'. I am able to connect other devices to my home WiFi. I tried doing a factory reset even though its a new phone, put it on airplane mode and back and tried restarting it, but nothing worked. Funny it's able to detect other WiFi's in the building but not mine! Please help!
Try to set your router up to chose lower channels on 5ghz

I disconnected one of my devices connected to Home Wifi and nexus automatically detected it. Sorted!
Thanks @ dondavis007. My router frequency band was 2.4GHz and it had auto channel config(channel number was 13 when I checked). When I fixed it to be 1, my nexus detected the router. Don't know the side effects though!

You must not have the international version as to why It can't pick up CH13.
Only downside to this is if everyone else nearby you is using CH1 you will experience slow wifi due to the channel being crowded, download a wifi analyzing app to your phone or computer and you will be able to see the best CH to use.
Hi!!
I just bought a new tab s4, and I can not connect it to the 5ghz wifi network. It connects, but says connected without internet. The 2.4GHz network connects perfectly.
PS. Sorry for my English.
Same issue.
My tablet is TIM branded.
Same issue, it connects on 2.4ghz but not on 5ghz...
Anyone?
HI peep's mine is connected to 5 GHz and it’s working flawlessly, it’s showing a connected speed of 866MBPS!
Quick questions, did you try a reboot router and Tab S4 once connected to 5GHZ ?
Also are you using separate WPA2 PSK key ?
As some routers can’t handle separate keys, keep the Wi-Fi key same for both channels i.e 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ!
Does it get ip address from the router/dhcp server you have?
I don't have access to a 5Ghz wifi right now. Next week I'll try the tablet and I'll try everything you said. If the new tablet has the same problem of course, I hope it goes well.

dual stack
Galaxy-Tab-S4
device info type 5 GHz
IP address: 000.000.0000 (DHCP)
MAC address: 77:EE:00:FFD:00
I have the same problem and I noticed that it came with the Anroid Pie update! 2,4G is working fine in my S4.
I have another tablet Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition and 5G Wifi is working flawlessly.
Might it be software issue in Android 9?
My basebandversion is T835XXU3BSF4, kernel 4.4.153-16124683 #2 Fri Jun 14 2019.
My Tab S4 was ,finally, updated to Android 9. 5GHz working fine. Both 5GHz and 2.4GHz working fine...
All good here...
I got one coming in the mail and will report back on my success but if you don't get internet trying setting your dns manually to Google's public one for testing. 8.8.8.8 Could also be related to the channel the router is using for 5ghz.

Okay, so I got a new tab s4, and I have the same problem. At the second floor of my house, I don't connect to the 5Ghz wifi. I have separated bands. I tried changing the channel... I don't know what else try.

5GHz WiFi has less range than 2.4GHz, maybe the signal strength is not enough at the second level. Use the lowest frequency band available, move the base unit to a place less obstructed etc. This does not sound like a device issue.

Yeah, I know, the device issue is that all my other phones, computers and devices are able to connect to the wifi. I enabled the smart wifi and it looks like it's going better, the tablet is able to get better download speed.
