What kernel did you flash?

I can't help you if you can't remember what you downloaded and flashed.

Plug onto the computer and open device manager, or look for the pop up window in the system tray. If it says Qhsusb or something to that effect, it's bricked.
More than likely you flashed a kernel for a different model.
There is a debrick thread in development section. You can try that, but no guarantees.
And a quick couple of things if I may. In the future read search read read read! You cannot just go blindly flashing the first cool thing you see. You need to learn what you are doing or be destined to repeat this mistake in the future.
And when requesting help (or creating a thread for any reason), please use a descriptive title.
And lastly, if you had taken the time to search and read, you probably would've found the debrick thread on your own and not even needed this. But also, you probably wouldn't have had the problem in the first place had you done so in the beginning. (And googling galaxy s3 kernel, doesn't count)
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
That's the thing my phone won't turn on and my laptop won't read it
Then all you can really do is try the debrick method. If that doesn't work it sounds like you'll have to take/send it to a shop for repair.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
How much harder would it be if my phone was hard bricked?
I think it's either hard bricked or a hardware failure. If it's hardware you're definitely out of luck. If it's bricked, there's a chance, but no guarantees.

i bricked it by flashing the villianrom 3.0. i realized my mistake and what i want to know is 1) Is my Phone COMPLETELY bricked? 2) Will a usb Jig work on a COMPLETELY bricked device?
I do have the option of easily replacing it, but that is the last resort thing. I want to know answers to these questions, not our $0.02 on this. i was fully aware of the hardware differences but did not know the VillianROM was for ATT GS2.
Sorry wrong section. Can someone move it to T-Mobile Galaxy S II section?

You should get a jig and try it out to be sure. If it is completely bricked you can get it unbricked.

Hello Guys,
I picked up the phone from Telus on Friday then rooted and flashed CWM the same day.
Because the rep gave me a protective case and put it on right away, I didn't notice that the power button is wobbly and recessed into the frame.
I will be going tomorrow to replace my phone (hopefully) and was wondering if I can restore my current ROM unto the other device.
Did doing backup via CWM backup all my apps as well?
Can I restore a ROM unto an identical device (will have the same SIM)?
I was told I will be given a replacement in-store. Do you guys reckon I should flash back stock ROM (running CM10 atm) + recovery before going in there with the phone? The guys in the stores are generally clueless and I can tell them that the different look is an app. But nonethelss, how would I go about flashing stock recovery?
Thanks in advance
The same sim dont matter just save all the basic stuff u need on ur sd i have done it before but its almost faster just to start over...if u do go to the stickies in the dev thread and u s3 qcomm root tool its simple and fast

Hi, I'm getting a galaxy s3 tomorrow. I was just wondering if someone would give me a run down of anything I should know. My last phone was an inspire 4g. I don't know what a modem is. I was wondering what people are talking about "tripped flash counter" is it important? What is it? Any thing else like that, it would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the the dark side!!! Well the tripped flash counter is a Samsung can check to see how many times your flashed a non Samsung kernel on the phone using Odin or heimdall. Its important to have it at 0 if your sending your phone back to Samsung for repairs or if your exchanging for a new one with att.you can look up chainfire on xda. He has a app call triangle away which is can reset the flash counter.if you find his thread on xda he explains the flash counter a lot better. The only other important things I believe you should know is you can flash some T-Mobile galaxy s3 roms (search the thread to make sure tho), as you may know every phone is different so some kernels may work for you others may not and the root method is different from HTCs so read the stickes and theards or find a update to date video on how to root. I hope you enjoy this beast of a phone!!! Once again welcome

Thanks alot! I have one more question. The "casual" root method..will that install cwm or twrp or 4ext? And lind of recovery? Or dobi need to do that separately? I'm looking for the easiest way to root. Thanks for the help, i just dont have much money and since im coming from an HTC phone i know its going to be different...dont want a very expensive paper weight do i??QUOTE=blackstar_329;39618110]Welcome to the the dark side!!! Since you'll be getting the att model look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2042775 ape made an excellent tutorial for beginners when it comes to rooting the s3. it has pictures and he even package a root kit follow the instructions and you should be fine. Before trying make sure you have a good understanding of it first. I believe it even helps you install cwm. Once your Rooted if you want twrp just download its either goo. Im or too manager I don't remember from the android market and install twrp from there. Once again if you run into a problem search the thread first because more then likely someone had that same problem or you can message me and I will try my best to help you and guide you through it. Like i said before there are turns of tuts ane vids out there to help you

Unlike your HTC you have to try really hard to brick a Samsung phone...other than that make backups of your EFS, IMEI, and keep a nandroid of rooted stock ROM on hand and you are good to go. Like more Galaxy S phones its fairly fool proof and if something happens you can get out of it. Don't flash anything for the international version. I prefer TWRP for recovery because its user interface is a lot better but to each there own.
First of all I would like to say this is my first post and I am feeling very optimistic as I have seen all the great things you guys have done over here! I understand in order to solve my problem I will have to be as detailed as I can, but please bare with me as I am a noob to this stuff and seem to have run into some trouble
Okay so I got a new S3 Last week and wanted to try it out on some new custom roms, I flashed it to CM 10.1 nightly using the roms downloaded via GooManager, all was fine and I had no problems until i flashed to a newer version of the nightly build and lost my signal, it always said Emergency calls only.
This happened to me once before but I solved it by flashing a modem file via Odin, since then I had to preform full system reset as I was considering selling my phone, it didn't come to that and now I am back to square one and once again I have no signal.
I have tried flashing the same modem file as I did before with no effect this time round
I have since tried many different modems and completely forgot which one has worked in the past. I have no back up files what so ever so I need to know what it is that is causing it not to get a signal. Could it be the kernel I am using? or is there a pacific modem for my ROM which I need.
I understand this is my own fault and stupidity, you guys are my last hope, I have also tried stock firmware which also has no signal.
It is an international i9300 with UK T-Mobile.
Please help me save my phone!
I hope you didn't flash a Tmobiles modem, because international gs3 and SGH-T999 aren't similar I believe other than looking the same. And more than likely you've lost your IMEI. Please goto settings and check your IMEI. Please do not post it, just verify if it's 0 or a 16 digit string.

Welcome to the forum! Albeit not quite the right one.
You need to post this in the international forum. This is for the US/Canadian models only. They are very different from yours, and not many people here will know much about it.
Do not flash anything you find here! It is highly likely to brick your phone. If you flashed our modems. Consider yourself lucky and now you know why it isn't working. Check with the guys in the other forum for your next step though.
I wish you luck!

As stated, incorrect forum. I'd give you the proper link if I was at a computer. But thank you for the detailed panic free post. It's seriously appreciated.
You're going to end up having to flash the modem that's for your phone, or maybe Odin stock.
You are right I have no imie number just a 16 digit string :/ sorry guys for posting in the wrong arearly next time I will make sure I will post correctly.
I am strating to get concerned, is this an easy fix? I dont mind wiping any data or using a certain Rom I just don't know which modem to use, some modems show me my bars but it still wont get any service. This one currently just shows a circle and cross icon with no bars at all. I am running stock.

I apologise thank you for the link, if I run into anymore trouble I will post to the correct section. I am glad to inform you I have solved the issue. It turns out I installed a bad modem which actually changes the file type of type of the efs folder. Causing roms to not reading it properly.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2377731
I fixed the issue by installing a stock firmware found on this post...
http://50.23.216.69-static.reverse.softlayer.com/showthread.php?t=1646610
This firmware carries a modem file which can read the modified efs folder, and in result restoring my IMEI Number and signal even after I flashed the rom to CM 10.1.
I hope some one else can stumble on to this and it helps them, please be aware though I have an intervention Galaxy s3 and this may not work in the states or other parts of the world.
Thanks again massive help, its people like you that make this the best source of information on the internet!
Once again really sorry about posting in the wrong forums, I will try not let it happen again in the future!

Congrats, I'm glad you rectified the problem! Remember for next time, when you're not able to access data or you're stuck at 2G that your IMEI has most likely went! For future reference, I recommend making an EFS backup. We've all been there before and we know the scare!
And btw, welcome to XDA, enjoy the stay lol.

Yesterday I flashed S4 Revolution v8.0 [ROM][4.3 MJ9] then I lost my signal and imei and the baseband version is empty although I wipe my cash and data before flashing this rom.
I don't think that's a Rom we have for our device, unless I overlooked it.
Googled it and came up as an I9300 Rom. If this is what you flashed consider yourself extraordinarily lucky it's not hard bricked!
Odin flash the firmware for your model only! Hopefully that fixes it.....
And NEVER flash a Rom not for your model device.

First off, I'm not new to rooting etc. I've previously rooted several HTC devices and achieved s-off which for those ofyou who know HTC phones, know that the process can be difficult.
That being said, I've recently switched to my very first Samsung device and have achieved root with no problems, but was unable to flash any roms. After searching for a week and coming up empty handed, I decided I'd try the all in one toolbox. I downloaded it and when checking my build number, I discovered what my problem likely is.
My phone is with telus and is the 1747M.
How have I managed to get that build number? Can I change the build easily enough? Should I leave it on that build and just use roms meant for the i9300?
Thanks in advance for your help!!

DO NOT USE i9300!! If it is a carrier device (i747[M]), which it is, you will brick your phone and have to get it JTAGGED. You need to only flash ROMs located in this section.

Please start by reading this thread, reading that thread will help you understand Rooting and installing Roms. Reading that thread will save you from Bricking your phone, as you would have done if you'd flashed a i9300 Rom onto your phone.
Sticky Roll-Up A Guide To All Guides and Q&A's
I've read all of that stuff and the answer to my question isn't there. My build number is the same as listed in i9300. I wasn't going to flash any of those roms without finding out if that was the solution to my problem. I don't want to brick my phone and therefor I stopped doing anything to it until I was able to get some help on how to proceed. I only discovered the build number issue when I tried to use the all in one toolkit and noticed my build number didn't match any of the telus ones but the 9300 ones. I guess I'll just have to continue researching on my own to figure it out. I wouldn't have posted if I wasn't stuck. Thanks anyways

Don't pay attention to build number.
Flash with Odin a pre rooted i747M image. (That's the easiest way)
Do not and I mean DO NOT flash, use, mod anything i9300 or anything international.
Please read some more. A lot more.
Before you end up with a paper weight.
And stay away from anything i9xxx
