Has anyone purchased a Note 8 from Amazon with the Build JDQ39.N5110UEFMH3, the actual build is N5110UEFMH3, I'm not sure if the prefix is important? I got this at the end of September and some features are missing, the obvious is the keyboard functions (Qwerty, floating, split). Samsung reps seem to be perplexed about this build. I'm thinking others may have this build and may not know that some features are missing. I want to know how to upgrade to the right 4.2.2 version without rooting. Apparently the latest build is N5110UEFMI1. I just want my new tablet to have the right build in case future upgrades are sensitive to the old build. Samsung is still on the case but so far no resolution other than sending it in for service, which I don't want to do if it can be resolved remotely. I can live without the keyboard functions, I'm more concerned with future upgrades and having some unknown build number.

I still don't have this resolved, hoping someone new may see this and chime in.
What model do you have?
What is your csc?
Frankly the build you have posted has a very strange build no, how certain are you that u got a genuine piece, and I would have it replaced if posible.
Your build suggests that it was done in august 2013, however The UEF part seems to be something very unlikely if we follow standard patterns. Like UE being Major Regional Part and F denoting The Major Os Build which is really strange as it's 2 generations ahead from anything that is latest available by samsung on this tab.

I have a GT-N5110 that I bought from Amazon. It was in a sealed box. The Model # on the box is GT-N5110NKYXAR.
Getting it replaced was probably the wise move but I thought sending it back to Amazon for an exchange would have just resulted in another unit from the same shelf mine came from, out of the same batch of weird builds. I have gone round and round with Samsung so long the return/exchange is no longer an option.
I'm sorry, you asked what is my csc, I don't know what that is or where to find it. I appreciate your reply, don't know where to go from here, just wait for Samsung to get back to me I guess.
I purchased mine from Amazon just last week but it was actually sold by BigOutlet it also has the strange Build # JDQ39.N511OUEFMI1 Android Version 4.2.2 this is a black/brown refurbished Note 8 don't know if that makes any difference or not. I got like 3 OTA updates when I turned it on for the 1st time.
Mine has the Samsung keyboard and all it really has is Swiftkey like Flow, no split keyboard or anything like that. I didn't know it was suppose to have those.

The build you have is the one I think I'm supposed to have, it is the one mentioned in all of the posts about the 4.2.2 upgrade. You should have the keyboard options. When you have the keyboard up long press on the key next to the spacebar and you should see the 3 keyboard options and the pen as choices. Check the tutorial under the Samsung keyboard settings. Mine shows how it should work in the tutorial but I don't get these options.
If I do that I do have the options you mentioned.
Mine had N511OUEDMD1 OUT OF BOX - 4.1.2
N511OUEEMF1 - 1st update
N511OUEEMF2 - 2nd udate
N511OUEEMI1 - 3rd update. - 4,2.2
That's the progression of the updates the last was the biggest and took awhile to download.
Hate to say this but did you do a factory reset then try checking for updstes?

Thanks for your help. Mine came like this from the factory, brand new. I did try the factory reset, unfortunately after setting it up one time and having to do it all again with no benefit. The problem is the build and the reset only reinstalled the same build, I didn't think it would help but did it anyway, just to be able to say I tried that already. Mine was obviously built with a build that was not the final product. Now I just want to figure out how to get updated to the right one so I can get future updates.
Glad you found the keyboard options.
Sorry I'm out of ideas other than root and a different ROM but that is pretty extreme.
How long have you had it? Amazon customer support is top notch with my dealings. Maybe the will send you another one. Something is definitly not right with yours. I can send you a screenshot if you need it to make your case.
Was yours brand new or a refurbished?

Mine was brand new. I didn't return it to Amazon because I figured the replacement would probably come out of the same shipment this one came from and it would have been built the same. It's now past the 30 day return period, I'll have to wait for samsung to come up with a resolution. Thanks for your help.

I haven't seen anything posted about this yet, but 4.3 is finally scheduled for the s3, at least in france. Hopefully by january we'll see a 4.3 rom released. I know you can get 4.3 now using AOKP or cyanogen but I actually like touchwiz so I'm looking forward to getting this.

It says the S4 will be updated to 4.3 in October, while the S3 and N2 will be updated in either November or December, if that's true, our S3 won't see 4.3 until March or April...possibly May 2014.

I will not believe it until I see it. I have seen many places talking about dates, that day, maybe , maybe not posted about went or went not. I think like all thing in this arena we will have to wait for someone to port it went it does finally come out . And just the fact that developers move on to other devices S4 and others it may never happen for s3. I have refuse to keep upgrading my phone and dumping so much cash for a new phone just for the newest android version. I will run my S3 until it DIES. Unless ?
Hey any in-depended rich person out there wanting to donate an S4 to me? lol :good:
I see Android 4.4 was announced we had expected the Android 5.0 release date to be some time in October 2013. We now expect to see Android 4.4 KitKat launch during that month. In the face of that point release, we think it's now likely that we'll see Android 5.0 shown in mid-2014. It a lot of babble but On 13 June 2013, VR-Zone also claimed that Android 5.0 will be optimized to run on devices with as little as 512MB of RAM.. We will see . I have doubts we will see ...

If it's released in November I would expect to see it get through T-Mobile and be released to us by January, maybe February. I don't know why everyone always insists that it takes a half a year for ours to get updated, when all the updates we received from 4.0.4 - 4.1.2 happened within a few months of each other. Often in only 2 months.
I'd imagine that Samsung is going to push to get everything updated before or at least right after Christmas. The main reason we are skipping to 4.3 is for compatibility with future devices such as their smartwatch. They'll sell a lot more for Christmas if they are already compatible with the S3!

And you are probably wise not to. As the device gets older, it will take longer to get any updates. If I am right about the timeframe for this one, it'll likely be the last timely update we see.
If I'm wrong and we have to wait a year, then so be it. I don't plan to let it reduce my enjoyment of the device if that is true. Never understood why people get so worked up over an update! If they're not happy with it, there's always other options available.
My only real issue is with people claiming we are always last, or it always takes 6-9 months for an update, and then feeling like that gives them reason to complain about poor customer service. Personally, I'm fine with it if it does take a year. In the end, anything and everything you see written about it, including my last post, is pure speculation, nothing more. I keep getting asked about what I expect to see though, and while I don't usually like to predict anything, I figured I'd go ahead and post my thoughts on it. If I'm wrong, so be it, I'll just continue on through life with my poor outdated formerly "smart"phone! But I'll still be happy with it!

That's the thing, I'm not complaining, I just replied with a time frame when we would get the update, no need to get upset and go on a rant. I cant even remember the last time ive actually touchwiz on my s3 for more than a few minutes, I could actually care less when the S3 is updated. I'm happy as long as there's support for cm/aosp/aospa/aokp and hopefully Ubuntu touch in the near future, but I think we have a better chance of T-Mobile updating our poor outdated "smart" phone than getting a fully working port of Ubuntu touch.

I thought of making a new thread but figured it made more sense to post here, question for anybody using one of the currently 4.3 roms. What are the common problems and issues with any of the existing 4.3's? Is there a 4.3 that is good enough to use as a daily driver? I haven't tried any myself yet mainly because I have tread enough yet to make an informed choice.

The 4.3 ROMs in the development sections are custom ROMs (cm, aosp, aospa, aokp...etc). This thread is covering the 4.3 update from Samsung which we do not have.
What may be a daily driver to others may not be a daily driver for you. Go through the 4.3 custom ROM threads and read a few pages to get an idea of what issues may or may not be present and flash the one that suits your needs.
If you don't want to flash a custom ROM, then your only option is to flash the 4.1.2 touchwiz ROMs available until T-Mobile releases the 4.3 update.

I would consider those to be in beta, sometimes alpha stages. If for no other reason than they sometimes have problems reading the nv data. Doesn't happen to everyone, but it happens enough. After flashing, baseband, serial number and imei (maybe more) all read unknown or zero. You have to either reboot several times or flash another Rom, to fix.
The nv data isn't lost, as is sometimes the case with the IMEI. As I understand it, the Rom just isn't reading it.

I noticed this on Sprint's RDF feed for their devices:
Code:
<prf:SoftwareNumber>T217SVPUBNC9</prf:SoftwareNumber>
<prf: OSVersion>4.4.2</prf: OSVersion>
So it appears that the T217S will get 4.4 in the next couple of months.
I think only u.s version will get kitkat

For me it's been a while away from the non iphone scene, I happened to wonder if I could upgrade my Tab3 7" today and was reading plenty of news about it being available soon (from articles posted in February). A quick poke around and it seems that it's not released yet and I figure I may as well ask since I don't know.
What's the release schedule around these things usually like? IE how long from "announced" to actually available?
Is the firmware for Tab devices geo-specific? IE is the Australian launch different to the US etc?
(I understand for the phones it's likely to be very carrier dependant)
I think that's all for now.

If you have a Sprint Tab 3 7.0, then expect an update somewhere between now and two months. That is just a guess but that is how firmware for my Galaxy S3 has worked. Sprint updates the RDF feed and then about two months later it gets released.
For other Tab 3's, no idea.

Samsung is notorious for being one of the worst manufactures out there when it comes to updating their budget products. I wouldn't hold my breath on a April release, I expect the Tab 4 to be available for purchase before you'll see it. The Tab 3 7" will also probably be the last one to get it and will most likely be the last major update you will ever get, I would bet money on it. I'm actually surprised Samsung is even updating the Tab 3 7" as their track record for releasing new Android versions for their cheaper models is not good. Yes, the update is carrier specific for the LTE models and won't see the light of day for at least a month or two after the WiFi models are updated, if at all.
In the future I would stay away from Samsung's budget line, it's already been a year since version 4.3 was released without it ever reaching the Tab 3 line and now almost 6 months and counting for 4.4.2.
To be fair I only got this device to run torque pro in the car (which is does just fine). As an appliance it's great! Now I'm just tinkering because I'm bored
Although I'm also temped to trade in the iPhone for an android based phone and while I understand it's low powered this was going to be a taste of the new OS I'd be getting.
i bought tab 3 2100 since i needed a 7 inch tab with phone capability, my first choice was any google tab but there is no phone capability in them so therefore i bought it.. and i think Samsung wont give kitkat update unless they release tab 4 with kitkat ... this is their way of making money !
Anyone have any new info on us getting Lollipop? Info on Google is slim.
My guess is spring or summer time. If we see any leaks then that means it should come a month or two after the leak. Its just a guessing game for samsung
Samsung S5 has just started receiving the lollipop update. So hopefully our Tab S gets it very soon.

I recently read (sorry can not remember where) that because the Tab S was such a low seller that Samsung may not bother. I was not aware it was a low seller.

Phones are very different from tablets. Orders of magnitude difference in units sold.
this is one area I find VERY VERY frustrating with Android
I find the way IOS OS updates are released far more satisfying. By the time we get Lollipop (I have a Note 3 and Tab S 10.5) - it'll prob be old hat. I'm also fed up with having apps now that look, feel etc like Lollipop and a core OS that does not.
we have 2 IPADs as well in the family in case you wonder about my IOS comment - it gets released - everyone (just about) can download and install it - great

Honestly I think ios users have the opposite problem . Apple keeps trying to update their old devices to the latest ios. The iPad 2 has no business running ios 8. Making ios 8 run on old devices just make them slow and piss people off and then they accuse Apple of making their device slow on purpose to force them to upgrade. Of course if Apple does not support old hardware then it's "abandoning" them.
But yeah no excuse for not having lollipop on the flag ship device already . It's not like Google just dropped lollipop on people out of the blue. you had betas and previews. If cyanogenmod, which as far as I know is not a multi billion dollar conglomerate, can support a bunch of devices then so can Samsung.

I do also have note 3 and tab s. I installed the leaked lolipop for note 3 and I can say that lolipop is worth waiting a few more months. It's nice, clean, works well. Maybe lolipop will resolve some of our problems with tab s. My guess is that will be no lolipop update till begening of march for the tab S because we do jot have any leaked firmware for exynox yet.
I hope it never gets it. Lolly pop ruined my nexus 10, broke WiFi and sent me shopping for a new tablet. Loving my tab s running 4.4.

Hmm "upcoming days or few weeks"
They have absolutely no idea of when it's coming... That's a bs article.
It sounds like Android Wear should be updated "soon" and we "should" have the speaker support all of us Huawei Watch owners have been longing for.
The next version of Android Wear is being tested on the Huawei Watch from the sounds of it. I would bet (hope) the Huawei Watch sees the update first! Here is a link to the article by Android Police:

Does anyone know if your phone's android system needs to be at version 6 (Marshmallow) in order to use the new features on the watch, once android wear is updated¿

it doesnt.
I was just coming over to post the same article. This may make my regret of leaving the Gear S go away!
This is why I bought this watch, for speakerphone support on Wear 1.4 update.
The ZenWatch 2 also has a speaker and should also receive an update. No other Wear watches have a speaker.
I hope that this is not fake.

Yea this is not fake.
The LG Urbane 2 LTE came with this version and had the speaker enabled. The Urbane was supposed to release with it but was recalled due to some "hardware" issues.
I specifically bought the Huawei watch for this specific reason. Watch calls from inside my pool this summer, yes!
I WISH they would include an option for a keyboard. Yes it is not ideal or reasonable for normal use, but there are some times when it would be awesome. Options are always good, even if they are disabled by default. Even a T9 style old school input would be awesome.

I use these two apps:
Mail for Android Wear
And
Messages for Android Wear
They are both replacement apps and are by the same Dev and have tiny keyboards that can be gotten used to!
They also have a web browser that works... well... It works...
I hope this is real. I'd love to have audio notifications on my H Watch.
Just waiting for someone to leak the firmware and confirm its true.
The guy who recieved the update didn't make a system dump before installing the update. This can only be done BEFORE installing. So there is no hope, we will get the update from him. Unless there is another user that copies the update.zip before installing.
On the other hand he won't be the only one to recieve this test build.

This device has an unlocked bootloader and a redily available copy of twrp.
ANY ONE who got that update could distribute it with in just a few minutes...
1. Receive update.
2. Let it apply
3. Unlock bootloader
4. Flash TWRP
5. Back up entire system
6. Post to internet.
But to what you are saying... Yes, it is correct that you can only get the update.zip before install. However see my point about getting the entire deal.
Then anyone could restore his TWRP back up and have whatever it is he has...
Perhaps newer builds of the firmware will be more widely tested soon, and more likely to leak out.....
The thing that's bothering me is that perhaps we might not get this firmware at all, and that it might be for testing features in a new 2016 watch from Huawei.
figures crossed we WILL get a download of this soon
I suppose that for us diehard Note keepers, we can say goodby to the idea of ever seeing Nougat? If Samsung says to return them all, I can't imagine they'll continue to support it.

Yup, can't see any reason for them to support a device they specially said to return and get a full refund or exchange.
i will not say never though...s8/note8/w.e the new name will be...will get ported to the note 7 i am 99% sure

Unfortunately this whole new return thing is U.S. only. Samsung Canada us playing dumb directing me to the "latest news" on their site praising the new safe Note 7s.
If there is a second recall in the U.S. hopefully Canada follows suite.

Number 1 reason this whole thing sucks for me.
I am a Pilot with Air Canada.
During recall #1 when Samsung Canada was slow to react saying nothing was wrong with their phones I literally had to ask "are you willing to take the risk of my Note 7 having an incident in my flightdeck" to get somewhere.
I used an old phone until my replacement was ready ( I ordered directly from Samsung Canada and they refused to issue me a loner saying my phone was safe to keep using, even while I told them I AM AN AIRLINE PILOT). I have been using my new Note 7 but now I will have to stop again.
Yet again, Samsung Canada is behind the times (and will continue to be) and told me TODAY that my new Note 7 is perfectly safe and I should continue using it. Once again, telling them I AM AN AIRLINE PILOT went wooosh, right over their heads.
I am getting tired of this. If there is a second recall I am demanding a full refund for the phone and all accessories.

So, if you are pilot, you should never carry any device wilth lithium batteries, ANY lithium batt operated device has the chance of a burning event
I think OS updates are over rated anyway. I rarely update my devices - they are usually one, at most two year devices and if an update does come within the time I actually use the device, it usually has bugs that need to be worked out the first couple months and rarely is there enough upgrade anyway. Sometimes it makes the phone worse. I am on my original custom ROM on my Note 4 Dev edition. Disabled OTA apk's via titanium. I have disabled OTA's on my N7 via Package Disabler. Neither my replacement N7 nor my original N7 did I take the battery "fix" OTA. I froze that first off on my new N7 even though it had downloaded it I never installed the update. So I have no reason to take a VZ OTA and now I can root my N7 if I want to. Doubt that would effect the recall if I have to send my N7 back. I am fine with MM. I am fine with this phone as is - best phone in the world is good enough for me.

Ah your one of the "your over reacting" or "shouldn't have any electronics" morons.
Our Electronic Flight bags (EFBs) are Ipads, they have lithium batteries. And you would want a job where you are gone a week at a time with no cell phone to contact your Family?
Adding you to my ignore list.
