Screen Timeout issues - LG Optimus G Pro

the screen timeout on the LG Optimus Pro G maximum is only one minute. that's nothing and is tedious to have to continually hit the home button to get the screen to come back on.
there are apps like "AutoSettings" that usually work with other phones that will override the screen timeout and let you set the screen timeout on apps independently. However, it does not work on the LG Optimus Pro G.
is there any hidden setting to further adjust the screen timeout? is there a specific setting for screen timeout that becomes available or a specific app you can use that works after you root your phone?

Try This!!!
1. Go to Settings
2. Go to Display
3. Tap on "Screen timeout".
4. Select the value u want!!
Its that Simple!!!

That's what I have been doing. that's why I mentioned that the phone only supports a minute screen timeout maximum. that's nothing. it's tedious to have to keep hitting the home button in apps when the screen continually turns off.

you can go so far as doing what I did too. I set mine to never time out and then set it so the power button locks it. you just have to remember to tap the power button when you done, otherwise it stays on as long as you need it to. I won't have wifi at my new place till tomorrow so with using the phone so much lately for Internet having the screen stay on until I lock it has been great.

@bailey37821: do you have the international Optimus Pro G and or a rooted device? my AT&T version with the latest firmware only let's you set the screen time out to 1 minute maximum and not "never" ..???

I have the e980 which is rooted but still has orig kernal/rom
I did not realize that simply rooting and not flashing anything would change that option. To be honest I can not remember if I looked at the screen timeout option before or after rooting. It does sound odd though that you would only have the 1 minute option. I'll have to investigate further...

[Q] launcher pro disables screen lock?

i'm using the standard rom
since i've installed launcher pro to get rid of motoblur's home, the screen doesn't lock screen anymore
it just turns off backlight, but any hw key awakes it and i find it unlocked
i already checked in settings and screen timeout is 30 and screen lock is enabled
That is not typical. Not sure what other settings to look at, but never known launcher pro to disable the lock screen.

Same here.
i've seen it happening from time to time
it seem that after the phone is on for a couple of days, the screen lock stops from kicking up after screen blank
if i reboot the phone it will work again
it never happened before, when i used the standard motoblur desktop
I've been having the same problem, as of a short while ago.
I notice that it happens when you manually lock (for me by pressing the Galaxy S power button) the phone while you're still in an application.
Every time it happens, I have to go and reenable the pattern lock.

Any way to keep screen always on for some apps?

Now on ICS, my screen turns off while driving on every app other than Navigation or Vlingo. Any way to keep the screen on while charging or running specific apps like Maps or Music?
Thanks in advance...
Before you use them go to settings and change your screen timeout. Under settings you can also change it so your screen stays on while charging. Other then that check the settings for the app. I know Pandora has a setting to keep the screen on or let it auto dim.

Where is this option in settings? Used to be there in GB, cannot find it in ICS.
Download Screen On from the market. That's what I use to keep my screen on while charging. You can set it to stay on for whatever app you want.

Several options...Screebl, Screen On, and my favorite...Tasker
Funny you ask this question. I've been struggling to keep my phone awake when on a phone call via bluetooth. I work out of my home office and use my phone with a bluetooth care speakerphone. Unfortunately the usual timeout settings don't work when in a phone call, so I couldn't simply set my screen timeout for, say 1 hour, and keep it on during a call. It would still turn off in both stock OS and CM9, which I'm currently running.
Yesterday I figured this out. I now use Tasker with the Secure Setting plugin. Secure Settings has a setting for "Wake Device" and I use the options of "Screen Bright" for Wake Type and "Manual - On" for Duration. When the call ends, I have an exit task for "Wake Device" with options of "Screen Bright" (not sure it matters) and "Manual - Off". Works very well.
But for other apps (that don't overide the system timeout settings), I simply have a Tasker profile that sets my timeout settings to 10 minutes. Could set it longer, but that's sufficient for me.
If you have Tasker, I recommend using it for this purpose...one less app needed. However, I've read good things about Screebl and Screen On, so both are worth a look.
btw -- be careful in leaving your screen on. The Amoled screens suffer from burn-in.
Just a word of advice you shouldn't leave the screen on for amoled devices. I have had this phone for about 6 months and my notification bar is slightly burned it but not to annoying since its always there. However my ex girlfriends samsung fascinate had icons burned on the screen. You could always see them. That was pretty annoying.

Another vote for Screen On. I've been using it for a while with great results.

[Q] Anyway to get smart stay and some of the other stock features on a CM10?

I'm running CM10, and I was curious if there was anyway to get Smart stay on the device? I got so used to not having to tap my screen that I forgot about it and it shuts off.
Try this

I'm actually finding it easy to live without SmartStay, though I thought I would miss it.
There's quite a few smart stay-alike apps in the market you can try, such as ISeeYou

I agree. I don't miss it. It never being there is better than only working 50% of the time due to lighting, angle, etc.
What does drive me a little bonkers about the backlight on CM10 is that when you have it set to go off at say 30 seconds, but the phone not to lock until 60 seconds, hitting home when the backlight goes off closes the current app instead of just waking up the screen. You have to use the power button to do this, but I don't think I'll ever get used to that!

Yeah, I've noticed that too. I have my screenlock delay set to 60 seconds after the screen automatically turns off (vs manual powerbutton), and pressing home wakes the device but also pauses whichever app was running. Should be a simple fix... just have to eat the homekey event after waking instead of passing it along the chain.

Set time till phone locks, can't find in JB

I remember in ICS there was an option (besides the option to set a screen off time), that you could set a time till your phone would lock. Say my screen went off in 60 seconds, I could set it so that in another 60 seconds the phone would lock. I can't find it in Jelly Bean, can't really remember exactly where it was in ICS. I just remember setting it.
Thanks!
I know CM had something like that, but didn't think stock did. It just has the screen timeout setting in display.
Go to:
Settings > Lock Screen > Lock Automatically
and you find:
View attachment 1460133
Not there for me.
Nothing in lock screen options either
You have to have to secure the lockscreen (with a pin, or other form of security) before you will see these options.

Ok I got it now. Wasn't like that before in ics. Kinda sucks, I just want the slide to unlock with that option.
Thanks again.

Lock Screen Duration

This may be something so simple that I just can't see it but, does anyone know how do increase the display time for the lock screen? Mine only stays on about 2 seconds and for the life of me I cannot find the setting to change it. Thanks.

Under Settings look at Display and Wallpaper, in there is the screen timeout. I have set mine to 30 sec and it works perfect.
Hope this helps a little.

That seems to work for the active screens but not for the lock screen.

Do you mean the time it stays on if you press the power button but you do not unlock it? Just trying to confirm the exact time out you mean before I answer.

Not to speak for OP but yes this is what he means. It goes off after about 3 seconds in the scenario you just mentioned. Only thing that "helps" is if you have smart stay activated it'll keep the lock screen on when you're looking at it.
But the reason this drives me insane is I have some apps, especially my SMS app, set to wake the screen upon receipt of a message. Well by the time I get the phone in my hand or out of pocket the screen is turning back off.

Yep, that's my issue. If I ever get that ironed out I would like to have my dock on the lock screen as I did on my Galaxy S3 but, I don't see options for that either.

The only way to have control over the timeout period is to actually have a lock enabled. Rather it is pin, swipe, or pattern one of them must be enabled. The select Lock Automatically and then select the time you want it to stay on.
On my note 4 I noticed my screen was staying on lock screen for duration of regular screen timeout so I actually wanted the opposite of what you want. I then realized what was causing my lock screen to stay on if i pressed power button. It was the remote/peel smart widget on lock screen. If you enable it on lock screen it keeps your screen on for as long as your dimming timeout. Perhaps other lockscreen widgets might do the same.

What? ? Where is this setting at?
Im on OG5 stock unrooted, and its not under 'settungs/lockscreen '
Thanks
Peel Smart is a Samsung app used to activate the the note 4 remote control features. It allows you to use the phone as a remote for tvs, devices etc. Inside the app there is a setting to enable the app on lock screen. Thats what allows my screen to stay on while locked.

Genius! I have been uninstalling random apps and using Greenify to force apps to "sleep" in an effort to get my constantly lit screen under control... I don't know how you narrowed it to the Peel widget, but instant solution!!
