Qualcomm secure boot enabled? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I just got my 2nd GS3 and attempted to root via Odin but when I booted into CW after to flash I kept receiving the message "E: can't mount /external_sd!" whenever I tried to "install from external sd." I also noticed that while in "Download Mode" in the top left corner under the normal status's was "QUALCOMM SECURE BOOT ENABLED" in grey. Now i never saw that on my first GS3 when in "Download Mode."
Rebooting phone and there was no root/SU application installed.
I then attempted to gain root via Odin again but this time I used the "CF Auto-Root" method and after the reboot my phone properly showed the screen with the RED Android and script. But after scrolling thru app drawer I could not find the SU app.
In conclusion I believe that the "QUALCOMM SECURE BOOT ENABLED" is preventing the root. So I have spent 3hrs combing thru forum after forum and any evidence to support my claim or disprove it. Can anyone give answers of some use???
I just want to root my GS3. FYI im running 4.1.2.

Mine is rooted with custom recovery and it says secureboot enabled.

I could only flash the newest CW via Odin but even after that im still having the same issues with "E: can't mount external_sd/."
Im not able to "instal from external sd. or install from sd." II get an error can't mount.

That's because you have newer phones. Search there are specific recovery for your device.

Since it's one of the Newer S3's you need a different version of CWM /TWRP. It's because of a change that Samsung did. You can find the Modified Recoveries that you need HERE. Then you should be all good to gain Root.

No, you are just flashing the recovery and a zip file for root. Does not wipe data.

Would it be wise waiting until an OTA update comes? You would think there would be one just for misc bugs, as well as hopefully multi window support.

ota not working
So I just have twrp installed so i could use wifi tether. I just got the OTA last night for the security update. I knew it would fail after the reboot. I went into TWRP selected install, from /cache were the ota was sitting. It appeared to be working but failed at the end.
error message: assert failed getprop ro.secure =1
Is there anyway around this?
So as of right now there is now way to root with the latest OTA installed correct? I just got my Note II yesterday and the OTA came through this morning and I, without thought, accepted and installed it. Is there a way to root or need I wait until a method releases with the latest OTA?

You can root using odin or cf auto root or twrp or cwm etc. No more exonys abuse.

No way around that. Easy way to explain, need to reset your binary counter using triangle away. Must be run as many times as you need to get it down to 1, then you must unroot using su preferably so it can cleanly do it. Then you must install the stock recovery then you can update. Hope that helps. I just did all this today, hence that's why I'm posting this late. Took me a while to figure out why it kept failing. Triangle away is a must if you want to do it without installing a rooted rom with update built in.

There are currently no methods to update using TWRP or stock recovery with root. I switched back to stock recovery from TWRP using the GN2 Toolkit, and it didn't work. I've also seen people having trouble updating even after unrooting, uninstalling Busybox, and going back to stock recovery, so we're just going to have to wait.
Decent video. For the record. You can do this without a PC (the video says you cannot). Just download the file to your phone's SD card from his link.

I don't think the video says you can't? I just recommend you use a PC to ensure you don't get a corrupt download. If you're going to download from your phone make sure you have a wifi connection (4g should work fine as well)

[Q] SPH-L900 update, already rooted?

Hi, So about 5 days ago I rooted my Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II using the video Max Lee made from galaxynote2root(dot)com, and about 36 hours later I get a notification for an OTA update. I kept off updating because I didn't really know what to do. I'm really new to this and there's still a lot I have to learn. Anyway, I ran the update and it restarted my phone and went to the TWRP screen. I restarted the system and it stopped notifying me about the update. And I checked and it says that my system is up to date. And I also checked to see if I still have root with a root checker app I downloaded, and it said I still had root also. So, was the app wrong and I don't have root anymore? And after I updated should I have restored the backup I made when I originally rooted? Also, thanks for any help, I've looked around and couldn't find anyone else with this question.
Your phone automatically downloaded the update and was waiting to be powercycled to install. However it failed to install because it requires stock recovery to install and you dont have it. So your phone boots back up and all is good with no changess.

I also have the same issues. I did a back up of my original roms and re installed using twrp . I down load the new update and when its going to restart it goes into to twrp menu. From there i am stuck on what to do.
It failed because you're not on stock recovery. If flashing the stock ota, you need stock recovery.
If you have twrp recovery, read and review this thread:

Before I rooted my note I made a back up using twrp. Is that not a stock recovery file ?.
Yes and no. That's basically just a backup of the stock rom that's only flashable via twrp since that is the recovery used to create the nand. So yes it is a recovery but only flashable thru twrp.

Ok well I did recovered using twrp and it installed and took me back that state before the root. I was thinking that took me back to original state and then update . I did download the update but as it was restarting the twrp home sceen would pop up and not update. So now I have no root or new update. Its funny it was easier to root then to unroot.
The link I posted above would have allowed you to flash new firmware and ma7 through twrp. No unroot reroot required. ..
And like stated, you can't update the stock ota update without stock recovery.

There are 6 links on that thread, one for odex and deodex (which I have no idea what it does), and then the 2 links for ma7 one all in one, and one just regular. And then there are another set of 2 links for the kernals, one regular and one modified. I guess what I'm asking is, how do I install these and which ones should I install? I have no idea what any of them do anyway.
How
how do we go about it and what files exactly do we need? why is everyone so vague?

I have flashed over 30 SPH-L900 (Note 2) fron Sprint to Boost.
I do everything on CDMA (paid version) 3.9.
Since the L.900VPAMAZ update I can no longer change the esn to Boost because the 16 digit CDMA passcode is no longer the default passcode for the Note 2. The old pascode: 01F2030F5F678FF9 still works for the Galaxy S2 and S3 but is no longer recognized on CDMA Workshop or QXDM.
If anyone knows the new passcode please let me know.
If I find it I will post it so that noone else has this problem.
Thanks!

Hello, regarding my root. :(

So I have been rooted for a couple months now with no problems at all, I do have the t-mobile note 2 which is model # SGH-T889. And I opened up Superuser and there is an unroot button which was not check but soon became checked I was unaware at the time you can even unroot a phone via a program. Is there a way to reverse this problem, all of my rooted apps no longer allow me to open them up, But for say wallpappers and some other apps I was able to keep them
www(dot)/gyazo(dotcom)/74c27571285f3d19f866b09be020013a
That is what my Titanium backup says above.
I also tried installed the newere SuperSU or whatever that didn't work either.
And even still "Software update" "Your device has been modified.Software updates are not available" Hit OK, I only just found out today there is a program called "Voodoo OTA RootKeeper" Only had I known about this program yesterday none of this would have happened, in the "Voodoo OTA RootKeeper"there should be check marks allow me to uncheck/recheck and there is no huge button for backup/unroot/root. that tells me I'm not rooted I guess.
A buddy of mine actually helped me root via teamviewer And I do not have the proper kit/know how to do it for my model #. If someone can help me in another way besides just rerooting the original way that would help. But if not if you have a known good rootkit for my situation.
I am sorry if this is not in the right section under my phone. I wanted to put it in the dev area but read that they will delete it if you put it there, even though It would seem that is the proper area since this is a rooting situation.
If you guys need any more information about my issue please ask

Are you sure it is rom I need to DL, Don't I need to be rooted first to get the rom on there? My problem is my phone is half rooted, titanium backup says clear busybox and one other app, but every single other app says I need to be rooted, Along with that being weird when I try to do a software update. It tells me that I have a modded device so I cannot do it. In the mean while before I reroot again I would like to get the most recent update.

Of you didn't change it in sure it's stock, but just boot into it to check. Quick question, you're wanting the update. What version are you on right now?

If you didn't install a custom recovery then is probably still stock so forget my question.
Also, try this to get your root. Is the easiest way.

Development is for developers to post work, not for rooting questions. This is exactly what Q&A is for.

Root problem

Hello everyone, I've had and rooted a plethora of Android devices but none have given me as much trouble as the S3, I have tried every sprint method that there is all to no avail. I tried CF-Auto-Root, nothing, tried downloading SuperSU after using that, says no SU binary. I tried every option in the Android toolkit, and nada. I looked all over for a Rooted Restore cause thats what always saved me forever ago on the S2 but there's none for that. I'm running out of options, I'm on 4.3 MK3 and I could deff use some help please!
NOTE: On the Android toolkit, the process doesn't work because when it flashes TWRP and it boots to recovery the toolkit says "Recovery mode not detected", and when I check device manager it shows SPH-L710 with a yellow ! mark, I've already installed the Samsung USB drivers, I tried Kies, and even the PDANet drivers, none work for the device when its in recovery mode.
Flash the latest philz recovery via Desktop Odin, it will ask you if you want to root the phone when you reboot it, tell it yes, then update superuser through the play store

Oh my god thank you so much, it worked like a gem! That should be the main root method, not CF-Auto-Root, that was a breeze AND gives you custom recovery!
If you could answer one more question for me that'd be great, I hate sounding so picky, and it's honestly no problem if there's no fix, I just have major OCD, when I boot to recovery and it shows the Cyanogenmod guy, is there anyway I can change/remove that? It bugs me cause I don't have CM or CWM so it seems very out of place.

I don't think you can change it, unless you were compiling a version of it yourself, but you would need to ask the dev for philz about how to go about that.

It's not a Philz thing tho, no matter what custom recovery you have, CWM, Philz, TWRP, it's always got the CM guy, Cid I think his name is? If you could change the boot screen you should be able to change that right?
