[Q] Triggering Titatnium Backup via adb? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hey guys, I've got a 'save my ass' question for ya.. Due to an unfortunate series of events, my E4GT ended up with a completely smashed screen. I have received my replacement from Asurion, and now as I slowly get it back to the state my old one was in it has dawned on me that although I did a nandroid backup the last time I updated my ROM (CM10.1) back in August (which I assume doesn't help, since I assume a nandroid probably can't be used in a different handset) I have not done a Titanium Backup for quite a while before that. My last Ti backup will be missing plenty of data. The old phone still powers up, and I know debugging is enabled.
So is there any way that I can feed TiBu a command via ADB to run a full backup without the screen?

Why not try loading the nandroid backup onto the new handset. Backing up the critical data. Then do clean install with just the critical data?
That should cover all your bases.
Not got anything to lose at this point.

I figured a nandroid would be handset-specific,no? For the same reason some people have issues with ROMs and others with the same model phone don't - minor hardware differences? I don't want to brick this one.
And even though the nandroid is more current than the latest Ti backup by several months, it's still almost three months old.. Just old enough to be almost completely useless to me. If it is possible to make it run a current backup via ADB, I want to do it.

It will probably give you an md5 error, but your can bypass it using this method-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2390010

[Q] nandroid restore not working

Sorry if it is an obvious fix/noob question...
but i have tried searching for a while now!
Successfully installed CM 7.1.0.1
but when i try and nandroid restore everything it freezes on sony ericsson screen
(with SE logo)
i have factory reset/cleared cache/wiped dalvik etc before restoring
any ideas?
thanks in advance
Are you using the same kernel that you used when backing up? That's the main cause.
sinkster©
ah that would be my problem i assume, thanks
im quite new to this so you will have to bare with me
where can i find the stock kernel?
Stock kernel won't have cwm. How did you originally backup?
sinkster©
i rooted using zergrush method
and installed CWM v5 using auto installer
then i performed nanroid backup
thought i had everything figured out!
obv not lol
Flash the same firmware you were on and use the same method to restore. Once you have, use fastboot to boot a custom kernel and back up on that.
sinkster©
That would be a good idea!

sorry for annoying questions..
where can i get the .42 fw?
cant find any links for it
Make sure you have original kernel or go on developement thread and flashtool your phone with fw42 or flash kernel from doomlord and a original based rom from developement. ........ Then restore persoal setting
Good luck

rightt,
okay i seem to be getting more confused as this goes on..
basically i have tried out a couple of different roms now
but i have lost all my contacts and i have read that you are meant to sync everything with google account (i didnt do this obviously)
im currently on xperia mod ICS tweaked beta 3
my aim is to get back to stock and nandroid restore so that i can sync everything with my google account
i thought nandroid and titanium backup was all i needed
its not the end of the world if i was to lose my contacts, just a little inconveinient!
i am yet to use flash tool either (i have downloaded it though)
google backup+nandroid+titanium=happy flashing!!
from the ARC
award for stating obvious haha
i know now
any other way to get contacts back?
when i go into titanium backup and press menu button
i get an "extract from nandroid" button
but when i restore contacts/contacts storage
i continuously get a force close of android.process.acore
any ideas?
thanks all for helping
it depend on what rom do you restored from, for example you use stock rom and try restore from cm so there will be problem cause they have different database
from the ARC
You've got a problem: if you unlocked your bl then booted into cwm via a fastboot then your probably unaware of your original kernel/firmware. All you can do is try flashing individual firmwares using flashtool, or re-lock your bl, repair via se companion, unlock bl again and restore by booting into cwm the same way. Pretty time consuming, and maybe unsuccessful...

[Q] Help freeing up Internal Storage (nandroid backups)

I'm currently low on space on my internal storage and I believe the problem is old nandroid backups from back when I used CWM. I now use TWRP and it doesn't see my old backups. Where can I find the backups so that I can delete them?
If all you wanna do is deal with the nandroid backups on your device, I use Nandroid Manager (from Google Play store, its free). It finds the paths where any and all backups on the device may be stored, and lists them for you. You can then go and delete them or browse them if you want...
I've tried that, but it only shows my most recent backup that was made with TWRP. It doesn't show any of my old backups that I made when I was still using CWM

Download Rom Manager in the play store from Clockworkmod and go to Manage and Restore Backups and then delete them.

Use a file browser and go to sdcard-clockworkmod and they should all be there. Cut and paste them to a computer if you need to save them. You can always use titanium back as well as app from above to extract anything you need.
Sorry for the late response, I've been busy with school and just got around to attempting to fix this issue to no avail. I tried reflashing CWM to see if it could see old recoveries but I couldn't see any. I'm beginning to think it's not actually old nandroid files, but something else taking up all the storage instead. I've used diskusage and root explorer to try and find something that was taking up lots of room, but nothing was taking up much space. I don't have many apps, and there's no way the rom should be taking up this much room. This thread over at androidcentral shows other people having the same problem. This is getting pretty bad as I can't update or install any apps.

After doing some digging around in diskusage I finally found the culprit. All of the old recoveries had been moved into /data/lost+found. Deleting the contents fixed all my problems! Hopefully this will help someone else out, it has been driving me crazy.

Android OS using lots of data

Noticed my Android OS is using almost 1gb of which doesn't seem right.

Any ideas?
Edit 3: Updating will fix this properly.
Edit 2: That didn't fix it...
Edit: I've seemed to "fix" it. From my reading it is a background service trying to do a seamless update in the background. I disabled "com.qti.service.colorservice" using titanium backup and restore and it seems my background data usage has stopped. No negative consequences so far but it may prevent seamless updates. Another fix would probably be updating to the latest patch version...
Idk but I hope you get an answer... Been killing my battery.

That would make sense if he was on stock but if he's using Titanium Backup his phone is rooted and might have other modifications. Flashing the latest factory image or if he's on a custom ROM doing a clean flash of the ROM would probably be the best idea under the circumstances.

It has been a while but I'll reply so anyone else who comes will know. My state before and after was the same. All that changed was my OS version. Flashed the flash-all.sh after removing the -w, flashed the April bootloader (so no boot signing stuff, not the safest or recommended thing), booted TWRP, flashed twrp, flashed supersu, and then rebooted. No other mods besides adaway.
Are you on stock, rooted or unlocked bootloader? I had the same issue on stock (unlocked bootloader) where it was trying download an update repeatedly. I had to actually flash a custom rom to make it stop. Verizon did credit me back for the data it used.
Feel free to read my forum post there and try those steps. - https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/1500910#1500910
Don't ask me how I know but this is a backdoor to access your device. Be careful!

Backup. Best option for full backup?

Hi,
I want to root my Pixel 2 XL but I obviously want to backup first.
I had an issue with the Google Drive backup on the Pixel when I tried out Android P for a day. After opting out and restoring my phone from the backup, certain texts were missing but also accounts and things that I had added weren't restored. Thing like exchange email accounts and stuff like that.
Now I kind of live on the fence between the Android and iOS world. For years I have always had an iPhone and I still do but recently decided to get a second phone to try and split my work and personal life. Have always like Android but I'm very deep into the Apple eco system. Anyway, decided to get a Pixel. The point really is that coming from iOS I am used to the iCloud backup system which I have to say is amazing. It backs up everything. When you restore its as if nothing even happened. You don't have to check over things and re add stuff etc. So I'm just surprised that Google or Android don't have an equivalent service. I also noticed on Android that the backup menu doesnt even have an option to force a backup. It's all auto which may be fine but for instance when I check the last backup dates and time it will be earlier in the day after I've received a bunch of texts etc. If I can't force a backup then I will lose that data when I restore.
So, what is the absolute best way to fully backup my phone? I am unrooted at the moment but I do want to root hence why I want to back up everything. I would preferably like it to be some kind of cloud backup but as long as it backs up absolutely everything, almost like a complete image then I really don't care.
Thanks in advance.
Damien
have you unlocked your bootloader? if you have you can boot a twrp image which doesn't flash to your system and do a complete backup of your system with that. it wont backup your internal storage(pictures, documents, etc.) but that could be the best option. there is a adb way as well but i have never tried it.
No. I am not rooted. I want to be I want to backup first. Are there any full backup options for unrooted phones?

Under settings, system, backup, you'll see these options. It's as full a backup you get unrooted. I used to be rooted and do Titanium Backup but I've been fine with Google's backup for the last 3 years.

Question why can't backup applications in MIUI backup?

Hello.
Why is no applications backed up when backing up in miui backup?
What good is such an application if it can't back up any one application?
In Settings>Xiaomi account>Xiaomi Cloud u can make a back up that include all/most of ur apps. It's useful when u flash stock ROM only.
You didn't understand me at all.
I have a stock rom.
When backing up, every application is not backed up, only an exclamation mark appears next to them and that's it.
The backup should be 1.5 gb, but only 34 mb will be saved.
I just showed u another way to do a back up (which will restore most of ur apps) instead using miui backup (which is an app, I guess). If doesn't suit u, no problem Btw, I can do nothing to change what miui backup does, so that's why i suggested another way.
Don't bother with miui app backups, they'll just break everything if you restore them after flashing a ROM.
Use google cloud backups for settings and some app data for restoring stuff after a flash or reset.
Hi, just an additional question: does this MIUI backup works with weekly developer eu ROM ?
Thanks

It doesn't work because Miui is a real s h i t
MyPhoneExplorer works fine backing up apps at once. To restore then we need to restore one by one by using myphoneexplorer "Aplications" or copy the all directory to the phone and then install one by one.
Swish is suppose to do this but I do believe you must be rooted for a full backup

with xiaomi.eu ROM 12.5.9 the Backup works.
I think higher versions are buggy
