[Q] rumrunner s-off Day 1 Unlocked - Verizon HTC One (M7)

I got my phone on day one and unlocked it via htc dev. I played around with some roms etc. Anyways now the s-off exploit is out, great, but you have to be stock. Searching through the thread I found this post:
Okay, finally got it to work. I downloaded Andy's DEODEXED rom and used this instruction. Everyone kept saying use the odexed rom but I wasn't able to flash it and its frustrating because there aren't any stock ROMs available. I tried Andy's bonestone using this instruction but doesn't work.
Use this method if you did HTCDev unlocked first day like myself. Sorry to sound like a whiner but it was frustrating to do all this after 4-5 hrs of trying. Feel free to PM me if you need links to the deodex vzw rom/boot.img/stock recovery that I used.
Flashed stock deodex vzw rom
Flashed stock boot img
Flashed stock recovery
Made sure usb debugging was on
Made sure verifying apps was off
Made sure fastboot was off
Made sure no lock screen was selected
I'm trying to recreate these steps. I flashed andy's stock deodexed rom. I'm stuck on the next two steps though
Where can I acquire boot.img?
Where can I acquire stock recovery?
Thanks and if anyone has a better way please let me know.

To the other question. It's kind of difficult to get any easier than this... If you are having issues with it I think you may want to not flash roms. This is as easy as it gets. Never ever EVER use a one click solution.

These things can be found in the RUU.
Here is the boot.img

There's also a stock full odexed .10 ROM in the dev section.
Flash that and you will be stock rooted, with a secure stock boot.IMG.
Should be all you need to run rumrunner...

[Q] S-Off OTA and Totanium Backup

Hi all,
I have an S-off OG EVO running stock GB 2.3.3. I would like to stay with the stock ROM and be able to run Titanium Backup and be able to create a wifi hot spot.
I had such a configuration on my Optimus S and it worked very well for me.
I have to say that I really love my EVO and I am just missing these features to be perfectly happy.
I flashed a ROM labeled as stock GB rooted, but it was not really the stock ROM I have, for example the ## menus did not work and the screen lock was the regular GB lock, not the sense one. I had to flash back to pure unrooted stock to activate the phone on my line.
Since I have S-off, I can flash any ROM, any suggestion about where to get an actual GB 2.3.3 OTA rooted ROM or if it even exists?
I would go with a different ROM, but reading some of the problems that users have with some functionalities not working, I am concerned, I need a fully functional phone, although I would not mind vanilla GB, if I was sure that everything works perfectly well.
The closest I found is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133379, but people seem to have tons of issues that do not exist in the stock ROM.
Any suggestions?
Download the Superuser flashable zip and flash it through recovery. This will root your current non-rooted rom. Then download Titanium Backup and select the problems button. Install busybox from there and you should be able to do what you need without flashing a new rom.
There's a complete guide somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.

Thank you for your reply.
So being S-off is enough to gain root? I just have to flash it and be rooted?
I will try as soon as I have a few minutes.
It worked perfectly, thank you!

I'm glad that you were able to follow my really vague guide. Especially considering I've never done it myself, I just regurgitated what I've heard.

[Q] Rooted, unlocked, and OTA updates

Question about whether I'll get OTA updates on my phone after rooting and unlocking.
I read that if the system folder is modified that will prevent OTA updates. But I'm not sure if I had done anything to modify that folder.
I unlocked and rooted the phone using the Wugfresh Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.3.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1454314
Then updated CWM with ROM Manager.
I'm curious, too. I suppose I'll find out sooner or later since I have two Nexus at my disposal. Both unlocked, only one with root.
i have heard that you will have to flash updates if you are unlocked and rooted. So your best bet is to flash it through CWM.
I wonder if the radios get flashed with the stock updates? I did flash the leaked 4.0.3 radios and have had much better connection negotiations.
Try searching, there's a big discussion in one of the threads in this forum. It's not as simple as yes or no...

Yeah, I had seen this brought up in other threads. The answer usually didn't seem clear as you mentioned. So was hoping for clarification.
Sounds like I'll just have to wait and see then.
I really recommend the other thread, and ask questions there - no one wants to repeat that debate all over again, so I'm not even gonna start...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473305
I found out that one MUST be on the stock 4.0.2 radios in order to flash the 4.0.4 update successfully. I have not tried yet but it is good to know. The radios are definitely flashed (updated) in 4.0.2.
You can be rooted and unlocked and still get OTA updates as long as the OS is still stock. You will lose root but you can get that back by rooting again. Running a custom ROM will change that though.
Which is the best/fastest/easieast way to get the stock recovery back? After unlocking/rooting/CWMing , the stock recovery got erased and not renamed. I guess it differs form GSM to CDMA , so if anyone could help me out here (GSM stock recovery wanted) I would appreciate it..
thanks a lot.
http://code.google.com/android/nexus/images.html download the right version from the google factory images. extract the file.
Then search for the image zip, extract the recovery.img.
Then boot into the bootloader and fastboot
"fastboot flash recovery recovery.img".
This will put the stock recovery back onto your device.
thanks a lot mate...already figured it out..

Help installing a "generic" ROM

Long story short, I purchased a One X from Amazon that was supposed to be an unlocked international version. Turns out it's a T-Mobile Germany version.
Everything works fine, but it has bloat on it and it's on a slightly older software version (1.28.111.10) and I'd like to make it a generic version that I can install updates on when they come out.
Can someone point me in the right direction? Where can I get a stock Generic rom for the Tegra 3 version?
I'm assuming my first steps are:
Unlock at HTC Dev
Install Clockwork Mod Recovery
I'm kind of a noob at this, or at least a novice, so any help would be appreciated. I was going to send the phone back, but it seems a shame if I can basically get it to be the way I want anyway.
For what i understand you want to be able to recieve OTAs, right?
You need stock recovery to update the phone, and i dont know if changing your CID will make the device recieve the different updates.
Why not try some stock roms?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546970
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1648527
that wont be able to receive OTAs but hey its updated.
I never used any of those 2 but mike is doing a good work with ARHD which might be an option.

Okay, so to flash one of those stock ROMs, I have to flash Clockwork first, flash the rom, then flash stock recovery again to be able to get updates, correct? I suppose I could just leave it Clockwork and then flash the updates manually.
Once you flash a custom ROM, even based off of stock, you do not want to receive OTA's as that could mess up with the Dev did and cause you issues. The Devs will keep their ROMs up to date so you just flash their updates manually with Clockworkmod.

You see, i never tried that. I dont know if those stock roms are able to recieve the update, but you could flash them using CWR.
And the devs will most likely update the stock roms. its not really be a big issue. You can always use something like titanium backup to save everything you want, even tho flashing an updated version of stock rom shouldnt mess anything up.

If I were you I would send the phone back and demand the version you ordered.
You wont be able to flash a WWE RUU because we don't have S-Off yet however as everyone has mentioned above you can Unlock via HTCDev, flash Clockwork and then flash away with your desired custom rom.

Question about rooting with odin

I recently took the ota update to 4.1.2 mb1 and lost root. My question is can I use odin to flash [ROM|Stock Rooted] 3/3/13 Sprint Touchwiz Jelly Bean 4.1.2 (L710VPBMB1) Odex/DeOdex? And If so do I use the full ROM odex? And Do I have to flash anything besides the ROM? Or can I keep everything else stock?

Hey there buddy, welcome to XDA (I see this is your second post).
Anyways, do you still have a custom recovery? I'm assuming you don't, since it sounds like you went all the way back to stock unrooted in order o get the update (in the future, Freeza typically has the update for Root users a week or so after the OTA release, so no need to go back to stock unrooted).
Anyways, back to your current situation. Since you most-likely have the stock recovery, you'll have to go back to being rooted with either CWM or TWRP (I prefer TWRP, but they're both good). I personally use mskip's toolkit, it's fairly straightforward. You could also follow qbking77's rooting method. He does a good job explaining how to root. Samsung hasn't locked their bootloader and don't try to in their updates, so these rooting methods stand the test of time (and updates).
Once you have a custom recovery installed (or if you already have one installed), FIRST THING to do is perform a nandroid backup. THIS IS KEY. Once you have one done, go ahead and flash Freeza's Stock Rooted ROM. I'd recommend doing a clean flash, as it's the best way to minimize the chances of errors and bugs. Just wipe system and cache and dalvik cache, and then flash the downloaded ROM. And speaking of downloading, be sure to check the md5 sum of the download before you flash. Most problems with the stable ROMs here on XDA stem from bad downloads.
You can also check out other ROMs. I won't go too crazy on advertising here, but scroll through these two sub-forums, Android Development and Original Android Development. I've enjoyed most ROMs I've tried.
Hope this helps!
ok

Ok, just out of curiousity... Before I took the OTA i was rooted 4.1.1 stock with stock recovery. Is there any way to do it the same? The method I used before was this [HOWTO] [ROOT] No Tripping Flash Counter [SPR L710VPBLJ7] JB 4.1.1. It was super quick and easy.

Yeah, that same method should work. I personally like the custom recoveries, but understand your desires to leave it at stock recovery (not triggering the flash counter).
Like I mentioned before, Samsung hasn't (and most likely won't) locked their bootloaders, so any rooting method that has worked in the past should work in the future. Just make sure to read the last 3-4 pages of the thread for whatever method you're trying to use to see if there are any issues. I know an earlier version of mskip's toolkit was having issues with JB for a little bit (it's updated now).
Well I'm gonna give it a shot. Ill let you know how it turns out.

I've got a problem I installed the OTA and now I cant boot into android. Its stuck on starting apps. I have the stock recovery. How can I fix this?. What do I do? I can get to ODIN download mode. *edit** can get into safemode too. And I now have a custom recovery installed.
I still dont know what to do from here. How do I flash the downloaded rom because the new file I downloaded seems to be a zip and can only be flashed with CWM not ODIN. I cant place it in the right directory of my phone to do that.

Cant or dont know how to flash a kernel?

Hello everyone. I am new to the HTC One (m7wlv) but not new to htc or rooting/flashing etc. I am s-off and my bootloader is unlocked, and i am running the stock rom rooted and debloated. I want to get a custom kernel on here, but i cant seem to get any to stick. By that i mean i have tried several, and they all flash with no errors. But when i reboot, the kernel is still stock and unchanged. I have tried all three different recoveries, ive tried regular flashing and flashing with htc dumlock. What am i missing here? Can you not use a custom kernel with a stock rooted rom? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The rom is just the ota 2.10.605.1 that i rooted and debloated.
obone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2539041, is the latest kernel ive tried. I tried a few others i found, but i cant remember which ones. Not to many kernels to choose from on sense 4.3. Any other kernels you know of that i could try?
Yes i was pretty active on the incredible. Unforrunatley it took a crap finally so i decided to go for the one. Thanks for replying.

You need an insecure Boot.img in your current rom, to allow it to be overwritten.
My Stock rom has an insecure Boot.img in it.
You could fastboot flash that Boot.Img and then flash the custom one.
You should be able to just fastboot flash the new kernel, if it is packed into a Boot.Img.(most custom kernels aren't)
If it's packed in Anykernel style, then you will have to repack it into a Boot.img from your rom, or do what I suggested above and then flash it.
Essentially you are on an unrooted, secure stock Boot.Img that will not allow for the kernel to be overwritten.
Chances are, that the modules did flash though and you probably ended up just breaking wifi...and maybe more.
How are you going about flashing a kernel?

Couldnt have said it better myself. tank you santod.
i would recommend backup up user data and flash Santod debloat stock 4.3 and everything should be good from there.
Thank you guys. Im off to try it out now.
Thanks again guys. I fastboot flashed the boot.img from your rom, and then the kernel and it worked. Time to tinker with some settings.
