Long story short, I purchased a One X from Amazon that was supposed to be an unlocked international version. Turns out it's a T-Mobile Germany version.
Everything works fine, but it has bloat on it and it's on a slightly older software version (1.28.111.10) and I'd like to make it a generic version that I can install updates on when they come out.
Can someone point me in the right direction? Where can I get a stock Generic rom for the Tegra 3 version?
I'm assuming my first steps are:
Unlock at HTC Dev
Install Clockwork Mod Recovery
I'm kind of a noob at this, or at least a novice, so any help would be appreciated. I was going to send the phone back, but it seems a shame if I can basically get it to be the way I want anyway.
For what i understand you want to be able to recieve OTAs, right?
You need stock recovery to update the phone, and i dont know if changing your CID will make the device recieve the different updates.
Why not try some stock roms?

that wont be able to receive OTAs but hey its updated.
I never used any of those 2 but mike is doing a good work with ARHD which might be an option.

Okay, so to flash one of those stock ROMs, I have to flash Clockwork first, flash the rom, then flash stock recovery again to be able to get updates, correct? I suppose I could just leave it Clockwork and then flash the updates manually.
Once you flash a custom ROM, even based off of stock, you do not want to receive OTA's as that could mess up with the Dev did and cause you issues. The Devs will keep their ROMs up to date so you just flash their updates manually with Clockworkmod.

You see, i never tried that. I dont know if those stock roms are able to recieve the update, but you could flash them using CWR.
And the devs will most likely update the stock roms. its not really be a big issue. You can always use something like titanium backup to save everything you want, even tho flashing an updated version of stock rom shouldnt mess anything up.

If I were you I would send the phone back and demand the version you ordered.
You wont be able to flash a WWE RUU because we don't have S-Off yet however as everyone has mentioned above you can Unlock via HTCDev, flash Clockwork and then flash away with your desired custom rom.

Hi
I'm desperately looking for any Bell mobility stock 1.34.666.5 or Over.
The camera button is not working so I sent my phone to repair but they send it back because I do not have the right rom that was provided with my phone. I was able to unroot and put back 1.34.666.1 (the only one that is available it seems) but the technical support told me that my phone shipped with 1.34.666.5 and that they can't do anything unless I'm putting back this rom.
I tried getting OTA updates for 1.34.666.1 but it's not available. Minimum rom # to get OTA updates have to be 1.34.666.5
I'm screwed.
Regards
I have a nandroid backup of the stock ROM...it's rooted though.
Will I be able to flash using Clockwork Recovery? I can manage to remove root after flashing, I think.
Yes, flashable via Clockwork.
I'll let you know when I have it uploaded.
...and it's up.
https://xda:[email protected]/_xda/Bell.DZ.Stock.ROOTED.7z
Some notes:
- I only included the system and boot portions of the nandroid backup due to privacy concerns
- As such, you should do a system and boot restore (after a full wipe, of course) under "Advanced Restore"
- As mentioned earlier, this is rooted (so you'll need to unroot)
Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.
Good news, I have been able to return to stock 1.34.666.5. Thank you very much for your backup.
I was thinking going unrooted was to be easy but i'm a little bit stuck.
How can I unroot and put back stock bootloader without flashing a new rom.
If I have to flash a new rom, is there a way to build one based on the backup you provided?
I've look at software update and there's an OTA update available for my phone. I tried to install but because I do not have the right bootloader (I think that's the problem) I'm unable to do the OTA update.
Thanks.

That's good to hear. I'd recommend making your own nandroid backup immediately.
As for the bootloader, you're sure you flashed the ENG HBOOT during the rooting process? If that's the case, I'm not sure where you can find the stock HBOOT...
Yes, I installed the Eng HBoot.
I'm trying now renaming the OTA update.zip, put on the root of sdcard and make recovery to install that update but I got an error about getprop CID?? and the update failed...
Still looking for a solution.
How did you make out Tonkadan? I'm in the same boat. I heard that if you did apply this update that you would not be able to root your phone anymore.
I' still rooted. I'm unable to go back to stock. I'm using cyanogenmod 7 for now but would really want to go back to stock if somone have the official Bell rom over 1.34.666.5.
... Or any way to get OTA updates for RUU 1.34.666.1 that is available on shippedroms.com
First, sorry for another 2.3 OTA question but I am getting confused reading all these threads, so I thought I would just post my question straight out: I am currently running Sinister ROM V4 and want to know if I run a RUU and then install the 2.3 update will I be able to root (using Unrevoked) again?

Just download and flash a rooted version. Don't bother taking the actual OTA update and risk not being able to root. The new bootloader that comes with the update is locked. You're better off just flashing the rooted version of the update, and eliminate any risk of not being able to get root back.
It is possible that if you remained S-off after the OTA, then you could reflash your recovery. I don't recommend that though, as a general rule of thumb, if you have any desire to root or remain rooted, then stay away from OTA's and just flash what the devs give us here.

That is the one I would flash. It's just the completely stock ROM, no modifications or anything. I would recommend doing a complete and full wipe before flashing this rom, just to make sure you get a totally clean flash.
I know this question has probably been answered before, but I don't really know how to search for it... Because I'm still not sure what I'm looking for.
I bought an Optus (Australian) branded HTC One X today, but I'm actually on a different carrier (Telstra, they don't have the One X and it's not available outright in retail here). So not only is my phone filled with bloatware, but it's all bloatware that I can't actually use.
I've got a basic grasp of Android flashing and whatnotsits, but that's only with WiFi devices like my Galaxy Tab. I'm kind of afraid to do anything here because of the increased complexity on a phone with radios and basebands and stuff I really haven't quite gotten into understanding yet.
I just really want a stock Sense 4 rom that'll recieve timely OTA updates without complication, and I'm not particularly bothered about having it rooted, recoverable or any other whowhatsits one way or the other.
I don't want a particularly big reply, if it's something as simple as a link to the ROM I need to flash and the name of what I need to use to flash it I can probably work with it.
Thank you so much to anyone who replies.
I'm in the same boat as you. I bought a 2nd One X from Telechoice (Optus handset). The only way to have it de-branded is with S-OFF which we don't have yet. Or you can unlock the bootloader and flash a rooted stock ROM or use a custom ROM. I suggest to use Android Revolution HD 5.1.0 for it's stock look.
But if you don't want to go there I understand. Like I said the only way to have a stock ROM is unlock the bootloader andflash a rooted stock ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546970
Once the bootloader is unlocked I'd just boot into recovery and install from there?

After unlocking bootloader you need to flash custom recovery and once you have custom recovery boot into custom recovery and flash the ROM from there.
Custom recovery = CWM right?
So I've unlocked the bootloader and installed the latest CWM Recovery. Do I now need to simply flash that ROM?
Oh, and one other question, will that one just update OTA?

No it won't update . You won't get OTA wth custom ROM.
When you have flashed CWM flash the boot.img of the ROM you want to use. And then boot into recovery and make a backup of your ROM and then flash mike's super script and then flash the ROM.
I didn't want a custom ROM though, I just wanted a non-carrier branded stock ROM, whichever one it is that recieves the OTAs the fastest.
Does that exist?

I have the same problem with jemaknight
get this HTC ONE X branded carrier optus from my brother from australia..can I change it to stock(non-custom/no root) rom?anyone?
I didn't make a nandroid backup before I flashed a custom rom (stupid, I know) and the only stock nandroid backup I can find is a version older than my current firmware. So now I want to flash a stock rom and recovery that is a version older (e.g. current FW: 2.11.708.2, nandroid backup and recovery is 1.60.708.2), is this safe to do?
edit: also would I be able to get official OTA updates this way as well?
Thanks!
Maybe.
It depends on whether all modules are included in the firmware package. Most importantly, hboot consists of 3 modules (sbz 1, 2, and 3). If the firmware zip came from an OTA, its possible only some (not all 3) of the modules were included. Reason being, depending on the OTA, its possible that not all modules needed to be updated depending on what OTA came before it (does that make sense? A bit confusing I know). And in short, if all 3 modules don't play well together, you will have a broken hboot and a hard brick.
At least I've seen this happen on my old One X EVITA. It seems that most of the OTAs for the M8 are complete (and contain all 3 hboot modules), but I can't say that for certain (simply too many different OTAs to keep track of).
Short story, open the firmware zip on your computer using a program like 7zip. If you see sbz1,2,3 in the package, you should be okay. I think hboot is the only thing that comes deployed in "pieces" like that. Otherwise, you should be okay flashing any of the modules back and forth.
But I'm not guaranteeing anything when flashing a firmware zip. To me, its simply a scary thing to do; as any time you flash hboot or radio there is a tiny chance something goes wrong and you get a true brick.
Also, you need s-off to downgrade firmware.

Thanks for the reply redpoint.
I'm S-ON and my current firmware was updated through OTA. So what I'm wondering is would it be okay for me to flash a stock rom (the original one when the M8 was first released) on my HTC M8 WITHOUT downgrading my current firmware version. I'm scared if firmwares are not backwards compatible with roms.

Yeah, I'm not sure. I haven't heard of anyone "downgrading" the OS and keeping newer (mismatched) firmware. I'd be afraid of lack of backwards compatibility, as well.

Because I couldn't find the corresponding firmware . I found the stock nandroid backup and stock recovery for 1.60.708.2, but not the firmware... So I was thinking I could get away with flashing a stock ROM with earlier version and just let the OTAs do its thing and get everything up to date.
Edit: Also because if I want to get S-OFF I need to be in stock ROM anyway for firewater/sunshine

Yes, I understand perfectly what you are asking, and why. I just don't have an answer for you.
Just a suggestion, I would try to restore nandroid and stock recovery, and see what happens.
I think the worst that will happen, is you have to flash back to your current setup because of firmware issues.
Is returning to stock and accepting the ota any different than just flashing the new firmware that @Sneakyghost puts up? I am not using a stock rom so is there something I need from the ota? I'm still new to the custom rom world and have never had the option before.
I know it's probably a dumb question but thanks for your guidance.
If you flash my full stock, wipe package, and then TWRP and some custom ROM afterwards, you'll have pretty much the same effect. If you're S-OFF, you have no need to go back to stock.

If your S-off, just use sneakyghost's files. The ruu/ota method is only necessary if you're S-on and your provider provides an update.
sweet thanks guys. I am s-off so I will just stick with using sneakyghost's files. So much easier than having to reconfigure everything. I just flashed the 2.8 DevEd firmware about an hour ago. no complaints so far. Will use t-mobile's when they come out with their update. I have a DevEd and an AT&T Ed but they are both connected to t-mobile. Both are s-off and on custom roms. Only reason why I want to use t-mobile's firmware is to use the wifi calling feature when I travel. Thanks again!
