[Q] DHD failed during root - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All
I have spent a week trying to resolve this now and have trawled the interweb to no avail!
Here is my sad story:-
I bought a DHD from a friend a week ago, which was working fine. The phone was an Orange contract phone but he had paid to have it unlocked somewhere. After messing about with the phone for an hour or two I started getting annoyed with the Orange bloatware and decided to have a go at getting rid of it and maybe upgrading Android in the process. After a look around the internet I decided to have a go with the AAHK. Lovely I thought, this should be a doddle. How wrong can a person be? It's a week later and I am still trying to get the phone to work!
So, running AAHK (thinking of renaming it to AAAARRRRGGGHHH!!!!), the program went through the motions of rooting the dhd. AAHK went through the goldcard creation and I now have that saved on my hard drive. But when it came to root, the program said I had to downgrade first. OK says I, go for it! The DHD flashed twice and then rebooted into the white HTC screen where it stayed for the next few hours while I worried if it had worked or not. Seems the worrying was worth it as it has not worked since.
ADB no longer recognises the DHD and the phone will not boot. I can however get into bootloader and pull information about the phone when it is in fastboot.
Here is the information from the phone :-

After more exploring on the interweb, I have tried the following
Flashing stock roms from sdcard and PC
Flashing custom roms from sdcard and PC
Upgrading the HBOOT
Read and tried copious amounts of things related to this problem.
I am pulling what little hair I have left out in sheer frustration at the moment but if someone can help me I would be one very happy bunny!!
Cheers in advance

look at the top of the bootloader screen
It says locked, unlocked, s-on, s-off.........
Tell us
You have 0.85.0024 bootloader, it can be unlocked following htc-dev guide
or just download easy unlock bootloader tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2133336

AAHK is retired. Use the Easy Ace Root Tool.

Try upgrading adb or re-installing drivers

Hi Pascuals
Thanks for the suggestions. Tried different drivers and re-installing adb drivers. No luck. Also tried on other machines running XP, Vista and Win 7. Still no joy, not one of the other machines would recognise the phone. After more experimentation, I think that it might be a problem with usb debugging not being set to allow adb. As I am unable to boot the phone, I don't know. The phone was set to debugging mode before AAHK ran.
Tried an Orange UK RUU but the CID was wrong, at a loss to know what to do next. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers

HTC Desire HD 3HG_UK Stock ROM

Hello,
Yesterday I attempted to root my HTC Desire HD. It did work, however, I could not run apps as root. I was then told to run the hack kit again, but that just broke my phone. Now it is stuck on a screen which reads "HTC" in the middle, with warning triangles in the corner, I am also unable to boot my phone into HBOOT, however I am able to use fastboot to flash my device.
The ROM I have tried to flash to the device does not work, and gets stuck (forever) at a certain point every time I try to flash it, which leads me to believe that it is incompatible with the device.
I am no longer interested in rooting my phone, but instead to turn it back into a phone instead of having a brick sitting on my desk. I have tried to search for 3HG_UK branded stock ROMs. However, I have not been able to find any.
Does it matter if it's branded, or not? If not, where can I find a stock ROM which is compatible with my device?

Ok, two things:
Who told u to run the Hack Kit when already S-OFF and rooted? anyway, the manual says not to do so
There´s no need to flash a RUU if u are S-OFF and have CWM recovery
If you are S-OFF (check in hboot) then check that u have CWM recovery and then u can easily flash a custom rom...if not you will need a ruu to have a working phone, but if you are S-OFF you will be able to flash an unbranded one...

I'm not interested in rooting purely because I just want my phone out of it's brick state for now

Why on earth did you try to root phone that seems to have hardware issues. Rooting it and custom rom will not solve it. What cid number do you have?

As your main version has not been lowered, you will need a goldcard and to flash a RUU that works for your phone.

ok, thank you so much, but one more question, as long as i cant use adb commands only fastboots, ill have to create the gold card using another phone, so the question is, it must be a htc, or can be any other android phone ?

final update.... i managed to create a gold card using another android phone, sony ericsson xperia pro , the card did his job, i managed also to rewrite a new rom to the phone. but the old problems camed back, the phone still freezes , so now for sure its a hardware issue. Ill send it to a service to figure the problems out and if the reparing cost are ok, then ill do it, if not..... i belive the phone will be sold for spare parts... so sad... it was a good phone.. Big thanks for your help.... and for the moderator..i guess topic closed:crying::crying:
Desire HD hangs on startup after update
Hi all,
My DHD stock phone offered an update tonight. After installing the update it rebooted but never came past de startup screen with green HTC. At the end, I pulled out the battery and restarted, but it still gets stuck on the start screen.
Using the volume down button I did a factory reset, with no effect.
Any ideas how I get fix this? I have no idea how to make a gold card (or what it is to be completely honest)
Thanks so much!

here in a few steps what i did to fix the logo screen stuck thing... maybe it guides u in a direction.... first of all i figured it out what rom was in my phone, than with the gold card ( its a card that grants u acces to write rom to your phone if this has a protection activated on it) i simply rewrite the rom, using RUU file ( RUU = rom update utility ) but finally for me its a hardware issue

I guess I need some more detailed steps. rom version would be the latest HTC Sense?
So what exactly is a gold card, is it an sd card specially formatted? In hboot it does say S-on...
Where do I get the RUU file I need?
Thanks!

[Q] Stuck in bootloop | no recovery,no factory reset.

hello everyone,
i've looked over similar threads, but i got lost in all the comments and download links.
so here's the story :
few days ago phone decides to shut down on its own (no tampering on my side at all)
i take the battery out,put it back in,stuck in bootloop, try it again and phone boots up normally.
next day it happens again, this time my method doesn't help bring me back to the OS and just keeps me in the white screen htc logo boot.
so i boot into Hboot, try to reset factory settings,it just goes back to the boot logo loop.
same issue with trying to boot into recovery.
here's my device details :

i tried flashing different pd89img versions, with or without clockwork but none of them worked.
the most advanced staged i got to was a certain pd89img being verified by my device and after it was done reflashing the different components.
it kept going to a bootloop.
also,my usb debugging is off.
any help would be greatly appriciated.
Hey
First off, you're gonna wanna remove the IMEI from the info, that's personal info you don't want to give away, just a heads up.
Second, what ROM/Kernel you running buddy?,
I believe you're gonna have to flash a custom recovery from fastboot, but I may be wrong..
If you need some extra help urgently, feel free to post in the Ace Think Tank (in my signature) to get some info, resident expert Glevitan should be able to help you out

i managed to use htc's hboot update via fastboot+usb
then i flashed an updated rom using their RUU.
managed to use the htcdev unlock method.
flashed CWM,restarted phone but alas it is still stuck in a bootloop and wont boot into neither recovery or factory reset.
any suggestions?

First thing you might want to try is to use this command
fastboot erase cache. If the phone then hangs we need to try the next method by rebooting to fastboot USB.
Run the RUU and look into %temp% for a rom.zip and place that file in the root of c:
Put your phone into Fastboot USB then type the following
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip c:\rom.zip
Let that finish and redo fastboot flash zip c:\zip then issue fast reboot.
If that boots then your ok but if the phone freezes upon doing any fastboot command other then fastboot getvar all the chances are you have a fried EMMC chip which will required replacement and a Jtag session.

[Q] can i get some luck? Going back to stock

Hello everybody,
I tried to install jellytime on my Desire HD, so i used Easy Ace Root Tool.
I used fastboot command to flash the boot.img to the phone and since then, the only menu available is the one of the bootloader.
As far as i tried the ruu packages fail to restore things.
Is there a way (preferably a guide) to return my phone to stock ?

I found the rom.zip from the second file, renamed it to PD98IMG.zip and inserted it to my sd, but it say CID error.
I saw that everyone says about a goldcard but i don't seem to get it. The goldcard generator i downloaded say they could not locate the CID. Can i download a CID image?
Where should i put it, if i find one?
Thanks!

Try the AAHK2 Script. Make sure you follow all the instructions before using the script.. It will automatically do things for you and just follow the on screen instructions... At the end you will have your Stock Rom perfectly running... :good:
Delete your imei #
Get nloooo to delete it from the quote as well.

Do not use the AAHK2 if you are trying to return to stock for warranty purposes, thou I highly doubt that you still have warranty on this device .
In order to bypass the CID error you need to use a goldcard. Otherwise, you will need the exact ruu for your device.

After trying the 4.3 beta versions, i tried again to install the original firmware.
As before, the ruu setup did not work. It should, since my cid is HTC__001, and i was trying with every WWE version available.
Anyway, during setup, i found in the temp folder the rom.zip, and within it the necessary boot.img, system.img and recovery.img.
I flashed them through cmd using fastboot.
Everything worked out, now i am back to stock, but i guess that my phone is something like Frankenstein, using the radio and libraries from the last jellytime image i installed...
It works, but i don't recommend it. I think that i finally got lucky, and didn't brick my Desire HD.
Thanks for all your help and interest.

i think you misunderstood him mate, he flashrd only specific img files from ruu not the whole thing. in this case, radio doesnt get flashed, but that shouldnt be to big of a problem.
to op: custom roms dont contain radios. so radio that is on your device is the same as before you flashed jellytime

Well, RILs are not compatible then, and many AOSP partitions can not work fine with Sense Roms. If he did that then his cell might explode....
forgot about rils and didnt know about partitions.
but expoding cells are not to be taken lightly, especially when put in trouser pocket

Having troubles unlock bootloader

Hi guys, I´ve bought a DHD, it is my third DHD and the first with troubles. I always did the job using the instructions on htcdev website, but this time it stucks.
The problem? My DHD is a vodafone branded, software number 3.13.161.5 at the htcdev site they dont offer this RUU, only the 3.13.161.3 and of course it won´t work.
In the fastboot menu I got following infos...
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT 2.00.0027
RADIO 26.14.52.27
eMMC-boot
does anyone got this appropriate RUU to download so I can do the job, or can it be done on some other way, but please as easy as possible
Thanks

In htcdev site it says:
"NOTE: If you do not find your ROM version in the table below, and your ROM version is newer, then your device does not require the RUU. Please bypass these steps and continue to the next page."
Because you have newer hboot, just go to next page.
If you whant to get full unlocked bootloader S-off you can use AAHK2 by Phiber2000.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2367322
But it's a little complicated.
Thank you for your reply, but I tried this already, and it wont work. Maybe because my HBOOT is 0027??? I´d rather not to perform a S-off cause I never did it before...
I open the CMD and type fastboot oem_get_identifier_token and the result is : ... INFO(ERR) Command error!!!
I cannot get the token!

Download that UK hboot from HTC dev, start ruu, find in temp rom.zip (or boot.zip, something like that), rename it to PD98IMG.zip, put it on a goldcard, go in hboot and flash it.
Or you can download the whole rom here:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Ace
And the steps are the same.
When you downgrade it with whole ROM just run ruu form htcdev. You don't have to do it with goldcard.
Here is what I did... I download the UK 3.13.161.3 from htcdev found it in temp folder rename it and put it on my sdcard, because I couldn´t find a tutorial how to make a goldcard. Then I went to bootloader and the phone asked me do I want to flash it i choosed yes and the phone restarted. Than I run the RUU but I got the ERROR (191) ROM IS NOT SUPPORTED
EDIT:
I noticed that my bootloader says nov LOCKED so I try again reading the token and I got it, but after pasting the token htcdev gave me following message:
Unlocking Bootloader Failed!
Sorry it didn't work out. Here's why:

Please make sure all items are installed and up to date.
We're sorry, but it appears your attempt to unlock the bootloader on this device has failed. This could be caused by several factors including simple errors in the entry of the unlock token, problems with your device, or a lack of manufacturer support for the unlocking process. You can install HTC Europe + it's world wide (but it's litle older):
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_225512_signed.exe
Or latest for europe (turkey version):
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_227499_signed.exe
In some thread I was read that even people from US install it.
Yes, whenever you downgradeing rom or hboot or whant to install rom whitch is not for your CID on locked hboot you have to use goldcard.
You get error 191 because you are trying to downgrade on locked hboot.
To make a goldcard:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-make-gold-card-for-htc-desire-hd/
(4. Go to this page, enter the reverse CID)
Because this page not working here is new one:
http://huygens.hoxnet.com/goldcard.html
Thank you very much, I did it. I just put the ROM.zip found in the temp folder on my sd card, renamed. Then went to bootloader it asked me to whether to flash or not. and than I could get my token...
