Lenovo A820 - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hello, I've installed rom from cappa72 and do repartition
Repartition
of internal memory of the Lenovo A820 phone has been solved already.
With this action youd intednal SD card will be disappeared and will be added to the /data partition.
Before you do anything, make a CWM backup, and save all your data from internal SD card!
The easiest way is to use this CWM script, if you want to have the maximum available size (2,7GB) for the /data partition.
You have to install it from CWM recovery.
After the installation you need to do a factory reset.
After the factory reset, you have to disable your internal SD card, with CWM script.
And then, you can reboot your phone to check if yo have got the new size of /data partition:
settings --> storage
"internal data storage; full capacity 2,7GB"
"internal SD card; full capacity <your physical SD card capacity"
If the above data appear, you have successfully repartitioned you phone's internal memory!

Now when I installing some others roms they are not working. Only waking up, screens shows lenovo logo and thats all. Is that because I did repartition? How to repair that?

double check your partitions, make sure you have FAT32 + EXT3 @512mb then flash the chosen rom again, this is your best chance.
go with my rom, linked through my signature, the update will wipe the Cache + dalvik cache but keep all of you personal data and apps.

How do i check the partitions? Cant boot so can`t see them that way and haven't got card reader or anything. Im sure its got something to do with partition. Does this seem like it is causing the problem?
Any help appreciated.
bump, need help
have you wiped everything before flash?
I wiped with rom manager after downloading rom. Not sure of all the custom recovery options as rom manager usually does it all for you. Not sure if i should wipe date, cache etc, will this wipe my backups? Tried removing sd card but wont boot, not even sure how I would get another custom rom on sd card so i could flash that. I have both defrost 2.4a and opendesire aswell as a nandroid backup on my sd card but can't get these to boot either
Must be something to do with the sd card partition. Everything I try I get the message
E:Can`t mount/dev/block/mmcblk0p2(file exists)
error mounting sd/ext/!
Don't know what this means but think its causing the problem.
perhaps a bad sector on the SD?
try backing up everything on the SD, format it again & try the roms one by one to see which possible causes the issue
U need to try an alternative recovery.
Try using unrevoked, and flash and different recovery.
Sounds like the fake flash recovery u got with rom manager Isn't clearing ur partitions.

in Windows XP Disk Management, right-click the existing partition,
and click delete, that will leave the whole card as unallocated space. Then
right-click on the unallocated space, and click new partition.
edit : or install http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/sdfv2000.zip
free SD partitioner
in disk management it only shows the size as 3.18gb, I made the partition through rom manager which I think formats it in linux which windows doesn't recognise.
Taking the Sd card out gets in onto the animation screen, so a little further, but still doesn't boot. Very frustrating. \\\\\any more help appreciated.
Flash a ROM that doesn't use Apps2SD.
can you link one for me pal, ripping my hair out here, lol. By the way how do you do full wipe in custom recovery ie data, cache, is that it?
edit. Don't matter. Sorted. Copied an earlier backup of sd card onto spare sd card and did a recovery. Still need to know how to remove the partition from other sd card using windows.
This was definitely the problem and won't be using rom manager to do another partition.
If someone does know how to remove partitions using rom manager from sd card via windows then would appreciate it if you would let me know...
Stock rooted ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694564
Full wipe can be done using the "wipe data/factory reset" option in ClockworkMod Recovery.
To get rid of the ext Partition get gparted or something like that. Normal Windows cant see ext partitions because its a Linux filesystem. You can also take a Linux live cd.
Can't you just take ROM Manager and partition your SD card again? Swap 0/Ext 0/FAT 32 All
It looks like something isnt ok with the partitions so i would recommend to delete all partitions and make them new i also had a problem once with my sd card but after deleting all partitions and repartition it everything was ok again.

Development Idea

Well here is my idea. Could we possibly partition the FAT32 part of our phones into more then one partition.
Saying like we could have a few FAT32 based partition, A Primary, One for roms/patches, then etc.
That way when we format the primary, it doesn't delete the roms we could flash. So we didn't need to hook up the phone to the computer to copy roms back over.
I know Recover firmware would need to support this. But it's just a thought.
I'm not really an expert at this, but doing a full wipe and installing a new ROM doesn't wipe the contents of your SD Card. Are you saying partition the phone's internal storage? What's wrong with just storing the ROMs on your SD card?

I meant like partition the SD Card into multiple partitions, So when you erase the SD:Ext and the FAT32, the ROM Partition doesn't go with it.
So example
SD:Ext - Partition 1
FAT32 - Partition 2 (Default SD Storage)
FAT32 - Partition 3 (ROM Storage, Backup Files)
So when you partition the SD Card though the Recovery it will only format Partition 1 and Partition 2, So if you left somewhere wtihout your computer and tweaking your phone, You could use partition 3 and access your ROM files and backups without going though loops for them.
What recovery are you using. I'm still not sure what you are talking about? I have no problems accessing my roms and kernels. You can do it plenty of ways and not do what you are talking about..
Use root explorer. Can transfer from download folder or if you made a certain folder on SD card for them you can copy paste them to the root directory on SD card if you use RA recovery. Clockwork you can go through every folder looking for the zip using clockwork unlike RA recovery which needs it to be in root of SD card. Your making it hard on yourself..
Why would you want to wipe fat32 and partion?

[Q]SD Card SD-EXT Dissappeared[Q]

I have an 8GB SanDisk MicroSD, it had a 500MB SD-EXT partition made using ROM Manager with 0MB of Swap. I was using OpenDesire, the latest version.
However I decided to change to Cynanogen 6.1.1, as it is more stable. I decided to Un-Mount and Format my SD Card, as I know this wont format my SD-Ext. After Formatting my SD Card wouldn't re-mount so I connected it to my computer, and formatted it again, by right clicking and clicking Format in My Computer.
After doing this it said I had 7.86 GB of Memory on my SD-Card. This is how much is left on the SD Card with no Partition's or data. After I installed Cynanogen, when wiping the user data, I noticed that it said there was no SD-Ext partiton, and so it couldn't format it. I immidiatley went back to ROM Manager to create one, however when it gets to the Clockwork MOD Part I just get a error about a signature or something? Can anyone please help - thanks!
Perhaps the format option under settings wiped the whole SD card and repartitioned it with a single FAT partition, therefore deleting the EXT partition. Format from within windows/linux in future. AFAIK, there would not be an ext on a stock rom and therefore no need for one, so the format option just goes ahead an obliterates.
If you've got a nandroid you could just repartition and restore.
Sounds like it just formatted the whole thing into a single partition. Just partition it back again as your really suppose to do when switching roms.

Wiping data/cache does nothing?

Whenever I flash any rom on my gsm nexus my previous apps and info still show up on the new rom, even if I did a full wipe. Is there something wrong with my nexus?
If they're on your virtual sd card then no, nothing's wrong. CWR doesn't touch your sd card partition nor does doing a factory reset. The only way to delete everything is to format them (mounts & storage -> format /data). If you want you can format all of the partitions, however you won't be able to boot until you flash recovery and adb push your ROM's zip onto the 'sd card' and install it.

[Q] Factory restore wipes internal SD card as well?

Hi,
I just installed CWM and flashed the new CM10 milestone for my Galaxy Nexus.
As part of this, I wiped data via CWM, and also wiped cache.
However, this seems to have removed *everything*, including the SD card storage, DCIM etc.
Err, is this normal on the Galaxy Nexus? I know it doesn't have a separate SD card per se, but I was under the impression that the internal SD card storage gets left alone on a factory reset.
This isn't good...
Long shot, but any way to recovery? Lol.
Cheers,
Victor
No only the stock recovery wipes everything. Unless you hit format /data in recovery... even then it doesnt format /data/media which is the true location of the symlinked "sdcard" The recovery wouldnt have done this i would say either you messed up and hit an option that said something otherwise. Or it just had a hiccup and corrupted.
