I have spent some time reading around other posts and threads, but I can't seem to find an answer. I tried a boot animation (Boot Animations Epic 4G Supercenter), and it works, I tried that Matrix-like background one. But the problem is that it flickers and behind it I can still see the stock Sprint/Samsung bootup animation. Is it because they are not completely compatible with what I have? Or is there any fix to that?
I'm rooted on EB13 deodexed
CWM 3.0.0.5
EB13 Dual FS kernel
Thank you for any help
You should back up and delete the stock sprint animations out of your system folder. The new boot animation is called bootanimation.zip. The stock is .qmi or something like that.

Thank you very much!
I have a rooted epic, no roms. Using the genocide kernel. It overlays the android icon over my boot screen. Is there any way to remove this? Thank you.
If you're running a rom... head to the themes and apps section. There you can find boot animations that you can flash through clockwork.

As I just said "no rom" I want to keep the stock boot animation (which I have) but there is a sideways "android"overlay over it, that's what I'm trying to get rid of.

Go to /system/media and delete the file called "bootanim". The only file you should have having to do with boot animations in the media folder, is the file called bootanimation.zip..

I just tried deleting the bootanim using astro, it won't let me.
You have to use root explorer.

Dammit man.. That deleted my factory boot animation, not the annoying android one, which is the only available now... How do I get the factory one back, and get rid of the android overlay
Misinformation in here lol... you would need to delete /system/bin/bootanimation to keep stock and get rid of the ability to use custom boot animations, but you need a copy of the file you deleted back....

Yeah I'd say... Now what do I do lol...

Here it is. Just remove the .zip.zip (screwed up the rename) at the end. I had to add that to upload it. Put it back in system\media with root explorer.

I THINK we're misunderstanding what your problem is. Wipe cache/dalvik 3x in CWM and reflax the kernel. It was probably caused by a back flash.

no its caused by support for custom bootanimation.zip in his kernel but he only wants to run the stock animation, so he needs to del the bootanimation binary from /system/bin/ so that only the /system/bin/playlogos1 binary plays the stock animation...
I don't know if this has been clarified or fixed but he is talking about the kernel splash that comes with Genocide. It appears after the Samsung Mobile screen but before the actual boot animation. I have a custom boot animation and I see it, but only after flashing the genocide kernel. It says: "IAP powered by: Genocide."
Not that I mind that much, I do like the bios boot but I figure I should leave it on there. If nothing else it reminds me to give thanks to me devs!
Pretty sure he's talking about the sideways greenish grey android logo you get if you don't have a bootanimation.zip. its in the bootanimation binary, which is called from the init.rc in the kernel. The stock animation is called by the playlogos1 binary, which is run at the same time, which is why they overlap.. if you have a zip, you don't see the stock animations...

Im curious as how to remove the IAP logo? I love supporting Devs and all but with the Samsung logo, IAP, AND the Boot Animation its just too much. Id prefer just the annoying Samsung logo and my own boot animation (which I already have).
Flash another kernel

so if I remove the "init.rc", it will remove the splash screen that comes with the genocide rom ??...i have srf and the genocide splash screen appears before the normal bootanimation for my phone..its a bit annoying (just a preference, love his work but i don't like the splash screen)
Noob here looking for some help, I flashed a new boot animation in recovery which went fine with no problems. The problem I've got is I now can't change it to a different boot animation, I've tried
1 - flashing another boot zip in recovery. No luck
2 - tried rom toolbox pro to flash 1 of their boots. No luck
3 - I've tried doing it manually by deleting boot animation zip in system/media and replacing it with a new bootanimation.zip. no luck
Every time I reboot Im back to the 1 I'm trying to get rid off.
If anyone could help I'd appreciate it.
If I've posted this in the wrong place I'm sorry but go easy on a noob

Good morning,
After tinkering around with my S3 a little, I decided let me root it and try something new. Well during the rooting process for some reason or another the phone got stuck in a infinite boot up screen using certain ROM's. I've since been able to correct that issue, however my question is since my CWM recovery file seem to be corrupt when used to backup, is there a way to just extract the photos I have saved from that recovery file? If I use the full file I seem to get back the infinite boot screen issue, no matter which ROM I use. Thanks in advance for the help

You should be able to restore just the Data partition from the backup, which I believe should contain the photos.
What cwm are u using??

How do I go about this? I'm using CWM 1.85
Thanks
CWM doesn't backup or wipe /data/media which is where your sd card is mounted. Your pictures should still be there on any ROM.

Hey all, I'm new to the Samsung community and my experience with HTC products does not seem to be helping me at all. I am having an issue installing different boot animations. I see the original animation in the /system/media folder, but when i replace it and reboot it is just replaced by a flashing ANDROID. Rooted using FreeGS3 ROM. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

try copying and paste of the same (your custom) bootanimation zip file to the data/local folder. reboot and see if that works
if not, try this...

Thanks for the response! I tried placing my boot animation in that folder, ran that zip, cleared cache and dalvik, still nothing. Does it have to be flashed using cwm for some reason? I'm using twrp.
