I have a rooted epic, no roms. Using the genocide kernel. It overlays the android icon over my boot screen. Is there any way to remove this? Thank you.
If you're running a rom... head to the themes and apps section. There you can find boot animations that you can flash through clockwork.

As I just said "no rom" I want to keep the stock boot animation (which I have) but there is a sideways "android"overlay over it, that's what I'm trying to get rid of.

Go to /system/media and delete the file called "bootanim". The only file you should have having to do with boot animations in the media folder, is the file called bootanimation.zip..

I just tried deleting the bootanim using astro, it won't let me.
You have to use root explorer.

Dammit man.. That deleted my factory boot animation, not the annoying android one, which is the only available now... How do I get the factory one back, and get rid of the android overlay
Misinformation in here lol... you would need to delete /system/bin/bootanimation to keep stock and get rid of the ability to use custom boot animations, but you need a copy of the file you deleted back....

Here it is. Just remove the .zip.zip (screwed up the rename) at the end. I had to add that to upload it. Put it back in system\media with root explorer.

I THINK we're misunderstanding what your problem is. Wipe cache/dalvik 3x in CWM and reflax the kernel. It was probably caused by a back flash.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
no its caused by support for custom bootanimation.zip in his kernel but he only wants to run the stock animation, so he needs to del the bootanimation binary from /system/bin/ so that only the /system/bin/playlogos1 binary plays the stock animation...
I don't know if this has been clarified or fixed but he is talking about the kernel splash that comes with Genocide. It appears after the Samsung Mobile screen but before the actual boot animation. I have a custom boot animation and I see it, but only after flashing the genocide kernel. It says: "IAP powered by: Genocide."
Not that I mind that much, I do like the bios boot but I figure I should leave it on there. If nothing else it reminds me to give thanks to me devs!
Pretty sure he's talking about the sideways greenish grey android logo you get if you don't have a bootanimation.zip. its in the bootanimation binary, which is called from the init.rc in the kernel. The stock animation is called by the playlogos1 binary, which is run at the same time, which is why they overlap.. if you have a zip, you don't see the stock animations...

just need a stock DK28 kernel modified for ext4 support, no custom boot splash, no custom boot animation support, no custom roms, just a simple ext4 supported stock kernel with absolutely no other changes, packaged up in one of those fancy edify scripted zips for flashing after the ext4 conversion
can someone help me out?
Go through the steps to install bonsai rom. Install cwm3 with ext 4. install bonsai then boot cwm and resrore the before ext 4 backup. You got dk28 with the new kernel.

The kernel source has not been released so they are all "stock" kernels.
The only thing that has been done to them is the initramfs portion has been re-packed, this allows support for EXT4, custom boot animations, init.d, etc.
Try this.
Or if you want a EXT4 only kernel... use the search I don't feel like finding it for you.

Since when? Guess I never tried to remove a custom one to see what happens.
I just tested by renaming my bootanimation.zip and rebooting.
I got a stock (as in AOSP) looking horizontal "andriod" shimmering boot-screen. (I actually kind of liked it.)
I've found the stock sprint files (images and sound), I'm going to pack up a zip and see if I can restore the stock animation.
I'll let you know how it goes.

so ur telling me no one has, or is going to bother with having a choice for stock boot anims?
well that sucks, cause not everyone digs custom, if adding the support for it didnt ruin the stock anim it wouldnt matter, but it does

Once I get the stock files I have working it will be a simple zip flash to restore the stock animation.
Gotta be something simple.
[edit2]
I found the stock images here and the stock sound here.
I converted the mp3 into wav, and modified the bootanimation.zip so it *should* work for the Epic.
The sound is working fine, but for whatever reason I cannot get the images to display, just get a black screen.
I've attached what I have now in case someone wants to try to fix it while I nap and then work.
=[
Moved to Q&A
U cannot restore the entire animation with a zip, u can only re-add the sprint anim and sound, not the stock galaxy s (unless someone found the images for it)
It just seems redundent that no one is going to make a stock ext4 supported kernel, what about those of us who want to run the stock rom on ext4 with no other changes?
Its not like I'm asking for a huge thing honestly

You are asking someone to re-package the kernel with only support for EXT4.
That's a lot more work than you might expect.
You could try begging / paying Dameon87 I suppose, or someone else that has experience re-packing the kernel.
Or, you could go research how to re-pack the kernel yourself.
I'll see what I can do about getting this stock animation/sound to work.
(Even though it sounds as if that would not be good enough for you.)

Actually the stock ani and sound are different than with the edited kernel. The bootani.zip is what the edited kernel points too. The stock kernel points to bootani.qmp. so adding a zip with the images from the bootani.qmp will technically be fixing a boot ani with a zip!

There seem to be 3 animation files:
Code:
bootani.qmg
bootsamsung.qmg
bootsamsungloop.qmg
But there is apparently no way to get the frames out of the .qmg files (none that I could find).
I'm going to use the closet one I can find, I know I have it around here somewhere...
OK, so attached is a zip that will restore the stock boot animation.
What it does:
restores the 3 aforementioned qmg files into /system/media
restores the stock boot sound into /system/etc
installs a single black frame bootanimation.zip into /system/mediaThis was the only way I was able to get the entire stock boot screen to show.
Basically it plays the single black frame and then continues into the stock animation.
The single black frame is not noticeable (at least to me).
This has been tested and is working on Bonsai v2.0.1

Hey guys hopefully someone can help me with this issue. I odin'd tp the stock ext4 plus rom in the development forum which works fine however then i flashed genocide 1.0 rom over the top if that to get the OC/UV features and when i booted i got the word "android" in the middle of the sprint boot animation then i flash a custom boot animation now the sprint and custom boot animations are mixed together when booting any suggestions to get rid of sprint animation?
Whenever you have android flashing in the middle, that means you had a bad flash. Just pull the battery and reflash the ROM/kernel in CWM and you should be fine.

Try taking a bootanimation from a rom that u like and push it to system/media. For example download a rom extract it go into the system/media folder look for the bootanimation.zip copy that put it on ur sd card then with root explore take it and copy it to ur system/media then reboot see if that works

just flash this stock boot animation cleaner which deletes the stock animation files so you dont have an overlap...

then flash any bootanimation.zip you want, lots in the theme section.. here is the stock animation in bootanimation.aip form.. or as close as can be to the stock animation anyway...

Stuck on the Splash Screen (normally white screen with Evo 4G) or the Boot Animation? Does the phone get stuck there when you power it on or it reboots on you and sticks there?
If it is rebooting on you and sticking on the boot animation you are stuck in a boot loop. That has happened to me with Synergy RLS1 (non god) and MikG when I was running a kernel (and CPU setting) that my phone did not like. Are you running a custom kernel? If so what settings?

So it hangs on the splash screen after you attempt to power it on? I am assuming that it worked before (and you either turned it off or it rebooted on its own) to the get that state. Wiping the the caches clears the problem? I ran Synergy RLS1 for a while but I have never seen anything like that.

Did you always have this problem with your phone?
Should try one of them superwipe scripts/zips (if you haven't already) and flash rom again. (for Recovery - Amon RA works better for Synergy i think, CWM for most AOSP ones)
Are you using aaps2sd or link2sd?
Have you tried a GB kernel like Freedom latest?

Kernel flashing is done the same way you did the ROM. Not sure if its an hboot thing for you...sounds like a one off case.
If it was me, I would've downgraded to eng hboot if possible...flash another splash and flash this one back. Might want to reflash the ROM again...just so we start fresh. Also try the format all script or a superwipe script in case your wiping is all jacked up.
The hboot and format all script is by the same dev, just search for it.
Could you post the link to the splash you are having issues with?

I just installed CWM through SFHub's Autoroot package, and my boot animation changed upon the automatic reboot to the animation that just says "Android". Is that normal, and is it something i should be worried about if its not normal?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
You're fine. As long as it booted, you're fine.
That's a fallback bootanimation when no other one is detected. The same thing would happen if you were using a kernel that used the qmg format over 'bootanimation' but you had a bootanimation zip in /system/media.
The only time you should be worried is when your boot animation is static
That almost never occurs on our phone so your good

yup normal, same thing I got until I flashed Blu Kuban
Can't name any threads off the top of my head. Just search 'how to install bootanimation' With Samsung, the type will matter (qmg vs bootanimation) depending on the kernel. As far as I know, most custom kernels support bootanimation zips. just read the OP to check.
Now, most will have a CWM flashable package but if you find one in a ROM you want or it's not wrapped in a nice package:
It goes in /system/media and must be named 'bootanimation.zip' the permissions are rw-r-r (though I'm sure r-r-r works too).
