[Q] Galaxy Ace2 I8160 OTG

Hi,
Sometime some simple things make you crazy, I didnt get the answer for "How to use or enable the OTG Cable with I8160". ?
I have absolutely no experiance of making or installing kernel/roms. Please let me know that will I be able to use a simple USB Flashdisk with my I8160 or not.
If not then what could be the reason.
If yes then please guide me for this.
I8160 do not support USB OTG. This was answered hundreds of time on many threads here. Use search button next time.

@loof13
Did you managed to connect USB storage or mouse thru USB port in i8160? I did not found anyone who managed to do that. If yes, then it is awesome.
I have OTG cable and my i8160 is not responsing after connecting mouse, keyboard or pendrive. Even with "USB OTG Helper" app. Tried to power connected devices via USB HUB, but it did not helped.
The reason why it is not working ... its because i8160 do not give any power required to power connected devices. Ace 2 cannot work in host mode for USB. Tried this already in GB and JB (MB2 and MB4). Hafidzduddin confirmed that in kernel there is everything that is needed for USB OTG, but probably it is lack of something in hardware.
But all bluetooth mouses and keyboards work good.

It was mentioned that it supports OTG. Its just that we needed a kernel and drivers or stuff that would make it possible

I remember someone saying that if the phone cannot power the USB device, an external power source should be used. I don't really know what that meant but I'm guessing a USB hub that has a separate power supply.

Ok. So try the kernel by hafidz. Try external power supply.
But does this has been tried by someone with success.

USB OTG works right out of the box on Xperia P and Xperia Sola (Nova Thor U8500). My friends in work have themad this function works without any mods with Nokia CA-157 USB-OTG cable. My freiend is even using USB-TV-tuner on his Xperia P. The same cable does not work with Ace 2. Already tried it on GB and leaked JB. I do not believe, that it is only software fault made by Samsung.

USB Hub with OTG Cable

Hey:
Is anyone us a multi-port usb hub with their OTG cable?
I tried to use a normal otg cable that is micro USB to USB 2.0. It never detects the USB drive and I can't seem to mount the drive either. USB debugging is enabled in the developer settings. Any tips to get this to work?
Thanks!

Mine works only when in recovery and after I mount it.
I haven't used a multiport

Any chance that this will be fixed in the next nightlies? It seems like quite a few people have problem with USB OTG.

I have one of those OTG cables from when I had another device that could use it, never considered trying it on my H1 with a thumb drive as external storage.
Can anyone confirm that the HTC ONE (M7) will charge via the OTG a cable while using SD function. If someone has successfully done that which cable was used.
Would like to use my SD while keeping the phone charged.

[Q] USB Ethernet?

Is there any kernel or patch I can use to add Ethernet to a ROM. I don't care stock or not. I know when I had the Asus tablet to add the support.
Any help would be great

If you are asking about reverse tether as in sharing internet from you pc to you phone via usb the answer is yes . Look for xposed frameworks and there is a module for this . The xposed module list is in the app section .
I have the nintendo wii usb ethernet adapter plugged into a usb OTG cable into the phone. Yet there is no ethernet section in setting on stock or custom roms. I remember on my asus tablet there was a zip I flashed to add kernal support and add setting apk with those options. Is there anyway to add to this phone so I dont need a laptop and a phone to do my computer work

Issues with mounting external flash drive

Hello,
I'm facing an issue when I mount an external flash drive to my nexus 7 using a simple USB OTG adapter. When i plug the external memory in, the flash drive's LED indicator lights up, which means that it's powered by the tablet, but the device itself doesn't react whatsoever and when browsing with ES I don't see any external drive. What am i supposed to do? My nexus 7 is entirely stock and no root, so i don't void the warranty.

ES won't see the drive - you need to use a 3rd party app like Nexus Media Importer to access it.
Yeah, I got total commander plus a paid usb otg plugin for it and now I can use it normally. Turns out Nexus devices can't boot external flash drives on their own.

When my USB port wasn't broken I didn't need any additional apps, I just plugged my USB drive into my OTG cable then into my device and it was instantly recognized. If that doesn't work for you try usinh Chainfire's Stickmount.
You could try OTG helper but that requires root access...
If the light is coming on you should be able to use it. You are just going to need a 3rd party app such as "file explorer".
I can understand the worries of voiding your warranty but you may need root access if you are going to trouble shoot. If things go bad you can always unroot your tablet and take it back to factory settings. WuGFresh's Nexus Root Toolkit has a nice feature on his windows program that does that automatically for you!

Yep, that's it. Once plugged in pull down your notifications and tap the usb and change your settings.
Ok. Done. Tv still doesn't recognize, but does recognize usb stick, btw, I bought a sd reader/writer usb adapter it doesn't recognize. Im trying to watch movies I have downloaded to my phone, on my tv. TV is brand new.

Have you tried using wifi-direct?That may be your only option short of screen mirroring via wifi or dongle.
How do I wifi direct? My tv is a smart tv. Run the wifi on my tv and let phone recognize it?

I dont think its as easy as plugging a usb stick in the tv. My tv reads the usb stick easily. It wont do the same for my phone. Always a complication when u think or should be easy
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You might look at AllCast.
The issue is probably the drivers then. The TV likely has a basic USB driver in it so the USB stick will work, but probably won't allow the phones drivers to install on the TV. So like what was mentioned, if you can't wifi direct or screen mirror (must have Samsung TV for that to be on the TV) you will likely need a Samsung Allcast/Allshare hub. Which in my mind isn't worth it when you can just move them over to a USB stick and watch them from there.
Theres not a rom or driver or sumthn to fix it?

Where did you get your movies from that you can't access on your smart tv? You should be able to stream them from wherever/whatever app you got them from...unless you got them illegally
But nevertheless, AllCast mentioned above is an option, but I think the better option is to get a TV video adapter for your phone? Why not get an HDMI/MHL cable? Duh! They're cheap, like 10 bucks off ebay. Make sure you have the 10/11-pin adapter, not the 5-pin, in regards of the Note 3.
If screen mirroring isn't your savvy and you want the full HD experience of accessing your videos directly thru usb, there is a way to mount your phone as a usb mass storage rather than MTP, but Samsung (and others) don't allow that capability in their OS's (probably to try to get you to use their stupid Kies software). To work around this you'll need root and a terminal emulator. In terminal enter su and type "setprop persist.sys.usb.config mass_storage". THIS MIGHT REALLY MESS UP YOUR USB & ADB CONFIGURATION. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! Really it's not a big deal tho, to revert back use "setprop persist.sys.usb.config mtp, adb" and reboot like 3 times until it finally fixes itself.
Hope this helps!

What's the best format of a video to be played on a TV? I haven't tried this yet. My videos are currently on MP4 format. Thanks!
The videos are playable on anything. So what next? I did the terminal emulator....verbatim. .. nothing happened. My phone didnt slap me in the face or gouge my eyes. However, I didnt plug it into the tv yet. Yes I have allshare.
