Do a factory reset insert the unfreeze code, will say unsuccessful but is ok,then insert the unlock and should accept it.If still not working do a backup of your current rom and flash the stock firmware and try the codes again

Yes, sorry
There are various sites that will give you the unlock code which is based on your IMEI number, but you shoudl be able to contact the carrier that branded the device and ask them for the unlock code. Then just put the SIM card you want to use in the phone and turn it on, you will get a Network is locked message with a box for you to enter the unlock code you got from the branded carrier.

I havent been able to get an unlock code since the 90's - I use Tmobile and they wouldnt even consider doing it.
If you are unable to obtain the unlock code from T-Mobile then you may want to check this thread:

S3 does not want to unlock, tried different methods

I just repaired the screen on this Galaxy that was giving to me, its a i747 ATnT S3. I want to unlock it so I can use it on TMobil
So I went on ebay and I ordered an unlock code, 5 bucks is no big deal, does not work. Instructions says
Method one
1. Insert Unauthorized Sim Card into device
2. Power on the device
3. Enter Unlock Code when prompted
4. Device should be unlock if "Code Accepted"
Error I get is that the code is wrong. I tripled checked it, it is correct.
Method 2
1. Turn ON your phone Authorized Sim Card
2. Type #7465625*638*CODE# (CODE is the Unlock Code I sent you)
3. Device should say "Network Lock Deactivated"
4. The phone may reboot and the unlock is completed
I get an error "connection problem or imvalid MMI code"
There is more here http://ebay.unlockfusion.net/#help
I tried with and without a sim card and it does not work. The sim card I used from ATnT does not have DATA but I can make calls. I also tried using my TMobil. Nothing works. Can anyone help me?
I called him ATnT, I asked for an unlock code, they gave one to me, BUT, the one they gave me is the same one I got from Ebay, and they said to insert a none atnt sim card, when it asks you for unlock code, you enter it, and thats it. But I get an error
"Network unlock request unsuccessful"
Why am I getting this error code?
Are you on a custom ROM? If so, you may wanna jump back over to TouchWiz for the unlock...
This is so frustrating I paid 220 to get this repaired and I can't even use it.
Before I was on stock, now I am using touchwiz, which I got from this Dev Thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2033132
I inserted a valid ATnT sim card courtesy of my mother. I Can make calls, use the web, and so on. So I should be able to unlock it using this method
1. Turn ON your phone Authorized Sim Card
2. Type #7465625*638*CODE# (CODE is the Unlock Code I sent you)
3. Device should say "Network Lock Deactivated"
4. The phone may reboot and the unlock is completed
The error I get, "Connection problem or invalid MMI code"
Why am I getting this error?
I also tried inserting an unauthorized sim card, my tmobil sim card, when it ask me for an unlock code, when I enter the unlock code, I get this error
"Network unlock request unsuccessful"
Do I have a phone that is just not unlockable? This is very frustrating... Any help would greatly be apprecaited

USSD Codes for 4.2.1

Because of the recent news of making it illegal to unlock phones I tried to use the *#simlock# code to check to see if my phone (T999) was unlocked. I keep getting the "Connection problem or invalid MMI code" so I tried a bunch of other codes which also didn't work. Is this because I'm running 4.2.1 (AOSP)? I remember when I had 4.0.4 USSD codes worked normally.

you need to be stock to unlock your phone, the codes dont work on aosp.
I did the sim unlock on my phone a few months ago when it was just stock rooted, I'm not entirely sure if it worked then. Would that still apply now and is the only way to check is with a different carrier's sim?

from what i understand, yes. when you unlock the sim there is nothing that says "it's unlocked!" so yeah you have to use an AT&T sim and see if you can make a call
and it sticks after a flash, it's not rom dependent, you just have to be stock to unlock it, then you can flash whatever you want

[Q] Factory Unlock after Root

Hi all,
I recently completed my contract and received an unlock code for my ATT S3. My phone is currently rooted, but running stock. Will this be a problem when/if I enter the unlock code? I'm looking to move to T-Mobile so any advice is welcome.
Power off the phone, insert a non-ATT sim, boot the phone, enter the unlock code, and you should be fine.
The i747 does not natively support AWS so keep that in mind.

[Q] Pls Help! Need to determine unlock status asap. Also, USSD codes failing

Hi.
I am unsure if my phone is unlocked and can proceed with porting my number over to Metro PCS. Please help me with advice how to proceed. I decided to move my service to Metro PCS since they are now a Tmobile company and after lots of research, I found that I can use my current phone/software as long as it was unlocked. I recently purchased my Galaxy s4 second hand and assumed it was not unlocked. I had immediately rooted it and flashed a new rom (Insane Kitkat 4.4.4). The phone has been working well. I already have requested and have my unlock code from Tmobile.
When I went to the Metro PCS store to port over my number, the phone did not request an unlock code when inserting their Metro PCS sim card (not activated). They said that my phone may already be unlocked or that it may not need to be unlocked since Metro is now owned by T-mobile. They stated that it may work if they go through the entire registration process, port over my number and activate it but that it would be a gamble. If it did not work, then I would not be able to go back and reactivate my sim immediately with Tmobile since it would then be in deactivated status with them.
I tried to find out if it is already unlocked by *#7465625# but my phone will not run this or any other USSD codes to verify. I keep getting errors when trying any USSD codes. A message says 'USSD code running' then "unable to process request".
A friend of mine has an activated Galaxy S4 on Metro PCS and I tried inserting her sim card to prompt for the unlock code but my GS4 just booted normally then showed 'not registered on network'. It did, however, have cellular signal bars. When I inserted my Tmobile sim into her GS4 it did ask for the unlock code normally.
I am at a loss now..
funny, I like to know if there is a way to check carrier unlock status for simcard without having to put a simcard in.
T-Mobile phones work with metropcs without the need to unlock
Could the custom rom be suspect?
Maybe need a stock rom to get carriers sorted out, then go to custom roms.
Pp.

I ended up contacting Tmobile and they stated that the phone showed unlocked status already but I think you are correct. I wasn't aware they could tell me this. It was very fast and super easy to find out.
I have the phone working great on Metro PCS now. USSD codes still failing though...
