I am an average photographer, with some variety of cameras at hand.
I got my OneX the last tuesday, because I read so much about its camera, and of course in my budget. It came with 4.1.2 and Sense 4+. The camera at that time really sucked. There was pretty much digital noise on even the bright photos, and not to mention grain. I fiddled with the settings, but to no avail. The noise and grain was still there.
Being a ROM-aholic, I went for ARHD 31.3 to start with. The same result. And I'm now beginning to think that cnet and all are pretty rosy in reviews. I have to do pretty heavy editing to photos from OneX, and have to forgo a lot of detail. My brother's got HTC amaze, and its really amaing at photos. tell me if I'm missing out something, or does the OneX really suck.
BTW, I haven't tried other AOSP ROMs and might, if I get the slightest hint that they have better camera results.
sense roms are having the best camera quality...and try a mod pack from lyapota or lesscro and there is a fix for the cam...but there is also a standalone mod for cam for better results..

Sense ROMs tend to have greater saturation, and hence greater digital noise in them. AOSP ROMs do lack better results, but digital noise is absent in them. Where in Sense I got to do huger editing to remove noise and preserve details, in AOSP ROMs, I get to edit the colour curves for proper colours and temperature. Wish that the digital noise would have some solution. I am loving my OneX, after Superchraging it, and ARHD ROM, its like a wild crazy, oversensitive beast, ready to lash out on even the slightest touch.

I have now owned the xda mini s (wizard) for about 3 weeks and i am very happy with it. I have made some personal changes to the device to customise it to my liking. But there is still one thing that really annoys me! The camera! To be honest i think its rubish! the quality is so poor. Before this phone I owned a samsung D500 and the camera on that was so much better. Iv tried changing settings and stuff but it does'nt seem to make much difference. Inside shots are the worst, which is understandable anyway because normaly the light is poor inside. But still i would of have thought it would of had been better than what it is.
Just wondering what other peoples thoughts on this? also is there anyway of improving this ie software update.
Camera on MDA XDA all units with opaque flash
These cameras are the worst I have ever seen on any phone. The flash on the camera can be used as a flash light digging for trash in the middle of the night but thats about it.
The quality of the pcitures are terrible. They have to improve these cmos cameras or put a translucent brighter flash with better iso features
Some people wrote here that the camera quality became better after upgrading ROM upto 2.16.
I don't see any improvements at all!
Im glade some people agree with me on this one!
I agree completely.
But it is also amasing that no commercial camerasoftware is made.
It should not be so hard to create better pictures than the **** we have now.
Very true!! the quality of the photos you get out of the XDA mini-s is very very poor for today digital world of photos.
Talking about the software, I don't think its so much the software, its the hardware itself embeded in the phone.
If you look at the back of the phone next to the camara lens and the floodlights, its says 1.3 mega pixel. I don't think that is true.
I compared grandads photos taken with his Agfa-45 analogue camara during the secound world war to one of XDA mini-s out-door photo, and I ccould not fine no diffrence, with the exception of the colour.
Above all the phone itself is pretty cool..
It might be 1.3 Mega pixel, but i did hear from a bloke that was into cameras and he said its not just how many pixels the qulity depends on, its mostly the lense. But yer its a cool phone
Hi folks,
I wonder why the picture quality regarding nightshots, illumination,... is really poor on AOSP Roms (Oxygen 2.0 for example). Last evening I took a shot with an extremly blueish tint.
The DHD camera app performs much better even in lower light situations and I get really nice pictures out of it.
Why is that? Is the HTC camera app just a better peace of software? Or is there a camera app for AOSP Roms I haven't found yet?
Thanks in advance
+1 Had the same experience... this is what is keeping me stick with sense Roms...
I'm going to return my new amaze that I got on jan. 11 for s2, and I have 2 cases still coming for the amaze. So, did I make the right decision?
If you tried a galaxy s2 and liked it more than the amaze, yes.

Why are you returning the Amaze?
I like the bigger display and battery life of the s2. and also I had the g2 and mt4g, I want to try samsung and tw 4.0.
i love the amaze. you will be sacrificing sense's sexyness, camera buttons, led lights, screen resolution, build quality, great feel in hand, camera quality.

All good points, but to be Devil's Advocate:
-Senes Sexyness vs TW4.0 smoothness and much more functional
-Led Light, um, notification light? Just use BLN (Back Light Notification). If your talking Camera LED then yes, it has 2 instead of 1 but this goes under Camera. See Camera comments below.
-Screen Resolution vs 10 times more brilliant display and larger display. As a former Sensation owner trust me, you won't miss the slightly higher resolution.
-Build quality, just because it's metal doesn't mean its better. My SGSII has hit the concrete twice, my wood floor once and my tile floor twice. Zero issus here. Solid as a rock and would go head to head with a metal casing any day.
-Amaze felt BULKY to me in my hand when I had one. Sensation actually felt better in my hand than the Amaze. I had an Amaze for a couple weeks testing it before you say I haven't messed with one.
-Camera, well, yeah, it's the ONLY advantage, IMO, over the SGSII. Camera does take better pictures and you do have that ever annoying (uneeded) button on the side!
Don't get me wrong, the amaze is a beautiful phone and Sense is much more refined but the SGSII gets the job done better and faster. Again, just my .02.
You pumped me up setzer!
also, phonedog and technobuffalo gave the edge to sgs2.

I love the build quality of the amaze I just don't dig sense.
- I personally find it much easier to minimize the effects of touchwiz compared to sense (and I find sense ugly). Unless either device ever has perfect CM9 support (which is a huge questionmark and may take a while), I have to assume I'll be running a rom based on stock, and it's just easier to strip out most of touchwiz. Even if you do the same to sense I find the phone is still inexplicably slower than a true AOSP build, whereas this isn't as true with touchwiz. Sense somehow has the capability to make perfectly fine hardware just incredibly laggy
- I prefer the design of the SGSII (especially the battery cover, which I find very study and on every htc phone I've handled has been flimsy to some degree) and like the screen more than the Amaze, even though the latter is higher res. If it were a 720p screen it'd be a different story, but they're close enough for me
- The cameras both seem close enough in quality, although the amaze certainly has an edge it's slight. it's nothing like say, the gap between the sensation or iphone 4 (not 4S) and SGSII
tldr: it comes down to whether or not you like Sense or Touchwiz imo. it's a damn shame we don't have more basically AOSP phones to choose from

HTC sense can rip the fastest device apart. I don't know why HTC wont tone it down they had problems updating the HTC desire and they continue to pile more sh*t on top of it at this point they have their own OS on top of another OS makes no sense for sense.
You made a choice that only goes to personal preference, I had the amaze for a couple weeks and I prefer it the camera isn't a little better it's a lot better, the screen res is much better and sharper, dedicated camera keys, led notifications without need of bln, sense has features that touchwiz doesn't compare to. This all leads me to the amaze for me is better but I could see the galaxy s 2 has good advantages too bigger screen even tho res sucks, brighter more colorful, thinner, battery life is superb, and the lightness of the os making the phone operate faster. Only thing to note is judging by how far the sensation was in ics development when the build leaked, and how similiar they are the amaze may see ics a lot sooner but thats just speculation same can be said about the world galaxy s 2 variant even though internals are different.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
I was never all that amazed by the amaze. Sense seems really bulky but i like that its themeable.
Ive used HTC phones before and ive always found them bulky and heavy. Its just their style and it doesnt jive with me.
I don't know if that's the problem or not. When I saw few reviews on the web the HOX's camera was compared to sgs3,sometimes a bit worse, sometimes even better than samsung. In my girlfriend's phone the quality is very very low, much worse than my galaxy s2. I mean weird contrast, discoloration and pretty high noise. The phone is running on the latest stock rom 2.17.401.2. Every camera settings are default. So my question is that the HOX's camera is really that poor?

So are you talking about a Galaxy S3, a Galaxy S2 or a HOX here
If your talking about HOX, then my HOX takes awesome pics outside, but go inside and they're worse than a disposable camera. Like, they're fuzzy and dark etc.
Try this Camera Mod for HOX
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867966
With it you do awesome Pictures, the quality is much better than the stock rom.

my phone used to take awesome pictures when i was on stock, software might not be the problem here.
@op try a hard reset or checking for system updates, if they fail i would take it back to the shop were you got it.
Try use camera mod 4.5, few settings adjustable.
Even in good weather condition there are some discolorations, maybe not so huge but enough to tell that's not a good quality.I can try with this mod but if other people don't have to use it why should I then?
The mod didnt do anything big. I will eventually wait till JellyBean is released, maybe this will fix it.
Hi,
I have/had many Smartphones apart from the P930. Somehow the picture quality of the P930 is the worst. Both picture and video capturing. Is this normal or some problem with my P930?
Cheers,
sb
As i know the camera module was produced by sony and it has good quality. Quality depends from which rom are you using. My point of view is that camera on stock rom (2,3; 4.0; and miui v4) is much better than on custom (i mean CM and Other)
the pictures from the rom in my sig are great, it's based off stock ics but custom kernel etc
warning you need to be unbricked and rooted etc, which isn't easy if you are new at moding phones
I tested all ROMs, also Mattman's and the Stock ROMs. The picture quality is quite bad in my opinion. Also the autofocus is not very good. Do you think this is a bug in my smartphone?
Mine is actually quite nice. In fact, I've submitted a few pictures to a couple contests and placed.

How is your autofocus?
Can you post the samples?
I've got 'prosumer' level photography equipment, so my opinions are jaded. That said, when I first got my Nitro I HATED the camera! It was extremely slow to take a picture and the amount of time it took between taking 1 picture until it could take another seemed like FOREVER. Blur, subpar color rendition...So yeah, I wasn't happy with the camera.
But since putting CM10.1 on, the camera software is LEAPS and BOUNDS better. Shooting speed is MUCH faster, the time between shots is MUCH shorter. The color rendition is much better, the auto-focus works better (click on area to focus)...Even in lower light conditions I get decent shots now. I can easily and wholeheartedly recommend using the CM10.1 camera vs. stock (Well, Stock OS when it first came out, ICS Stock might be worlds better too).
...All of this is at 1.0x zoom. Start using the digital zoom and all bets are off. Grain and blur run rampant the more you zoom.
