1. Put this in the Q&A thread.
2. This update came out months ago.

It's is just show up on my phone

Got the notification too but phone is unsuccessful on trying to upgrade from 4.1.1.
FWIW, I have the TWRP 2.5.0.0 bootloader and an unlocked/rooted stock ROM and the phone downloads 200+ MB of data and then reboots into TWRP. I then ask it to reboot into the system when it says the upgrade failed and boots me into 4.1.1 again.

I also just got the notification today.
I had previously had the 4.1.1 rooted stock ROM (the one that didn't trip the Flash counter) and was wondering if there was one for this update too.

if you need to update either go with customs roms with the same version but debloated, fixed and works really great or download the samsung stock firmware with Odin and you will go back to real stock with everything bloated and No ROOT

Too scared to update since I'm not on stock rom and it might make more problems with my airave but it's 39.7 MB.
Any news on this?
trust me if you are rooted it an't gonna install. If you keep pressing install later then it will keep poppin up that update notification. Just click install and it will try to install but it will not and you will no longer receive that notification.

hmmm, think its the lg8 update. i see you have the lg8 baseband but the build says lg2. if i'm right and the notification becomes a burden, replace your build.prop with this one and i bet the update notification goes away. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/39180283/build.prop (right click, save link as). Its from blazer just modded to look like its updated.
I'm still stock. Should I do this update will it make it harder to root? What is the l g 8 update?

flash this, you will be stock LG8, but rooted and all that, then flash theme afterward.
I'm guessing that it's just the notification for the "official" LG8 update that came out 2 weeks ago. I'll bet you've only been on custom roms since it came out so the system thinks you haven't updated yet.
I'm on Build number IMM76D.L710VPALG2. I tried this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KeZx65twLk and downloaded the recovery file that it shows and the update file but when I try to install them I get an update aborted notification.
Do I need to update to a different version from LG2 before I can update to the latest LG9? Not sure where the problem is coming in
Also I still seem to have Superuser even after flashing the recovery file which is supposed to be stock with Odin. I'm not sure if that is what is causing the problem. Odin flashes the recovery file fine, not sure why its not taking.
The error that I'm getting is
E: Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(Status 7)
Update:
Looks like something is just weird with the instructions on that Youtube video, I can't get that to work. Ran the Odex version in the developers section, (Odin stuff, Update, Modem) and now I'm at the latest. If anyone else runs into problems with the Youtube version it might be best to just use the instructions on the developers section, you don't need to erase your data it seems when you flash the Odex versions.

[Q] Rooting problems

Hello i've some problem with my T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2.
Last week i updated my phone on Android 4.3 version.
Unfortunelly i had a wifi bug and I couldn't connect to internet, so I decided to downgrade it to 4.1.2. I've flashed my stock ROM with the newest one. (thanks to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102380 )
Afterward, i would rooting my phone and install custom binary CWM by this thread, option 2.
However i can't modifiy system files. I consequently would verify my status root by Titanium Backup. And that's really strange because it is already rooted.

So i'd like to know how to resolve my problem, i how to modify system files?
(PS: sorry for my bad English!)
PS2: That's the same thing if i connect it on SSH/FTP protocols, unable to modify too.
I have T889 version and I just updated today with 4.3 with no problem.
I would say the best thing is just start from scratch and reinstall your app.
I don't even use TB anymore, I used to but I just happen to run into problem a lot.
I decided to just reinstall apps everytime I flash rom.

Try using the Odin again and when you full wipe don't even do anything just update to the original 4.3 via Tmobile.
After that install CWM or TWRP, Like I said I never had any issues installing Rom back and forth.
Just don't skip a step and never rush things.

[Q] Having trouble accepting OTA update on 4.1.2. (Assert Failed)

Hello. I have a rooted GS3 which I want to update. I was on CM11 but was getting bad battery life so I went back to stock via a Nandroid restore. I then installed the stock recovery again. Now when I try to do the OTA update, I get the following message

Is there any way to make this work? I am on 4.1.2 (MB1?) and would love to get to the latest stock version. Thanks

you could have left custom recovery on it, and flashed THIS from CNexus. Its stock 4.3, no KNOX, and you get to keep root access.

Thanks for the reply. Is that stock touchwiz or stock jellybean? Also what's the latest version which sprint has pushed out for the gs3?
Stock jellybean with touchwiz launcher. Touchwiz is the stock launcher. This one is the latest update, in zip format, but with KNOX removed.
sent from my GS3

One thing which stock Touchwiz has that I can update my prl etc from the rom, whereas I wasn't able to do that in Cyanogenmod. Do you know if this stock rom allows it? Thanks

[Q] 4.1.1 vulnerable to Heartbleed, update options?

Both my S3 (SGH-i747M) are still on original 4.1.1 and since they have been working wonderful for me (if it ain't broke, don't fxt it, right?)...plus I don't do much with my phones.
After reading about the Heartbleed Vulnerability in 4.1.1, I'm thinking of updating to 4.1.2 instead of of the latest 4.4.2, but before I do that, can I get confirmation that:
1) from 4.1.2, I can go back to stock 4.1.1 100% for sure using Odin
2) Once updated to 4.3 or 4.4.2, there is NO way to go back to 4.1.1 due to both 4.3 and 4.4.2 have different bootloaders ?
3) if updated to 4.4.2 and since there is no way to downgrade to 4.1.1, the other option would be to use "CyanogenMod" as the last option, correct?
Thanks.
1) Yes, you can go back to stock 4.1.1 from stock 4.1.2 using Odin. I recommend doing this so you can take advantage of the free unlock method.
2) Yes, once updated to stock 4.3 or 4.4 bootloader, you cannot go backwards. Also, you can brick your phone if you attempt to load a 4.4 modem on a 4.3 bootloader.
3) CM ROMs must support your installed bootloader and modem.

Thanks audit13, you are great!:good:
For the 3) CM ROMs must support your installed bootloader and modem, I have all four Koodo 4.1.1/4.1.2/4.3/4.4.2 (pix attached), are these all OK for CM ROM?
Thanks.
Last time I checked, 4.1.2 bootloader worked fine with CM 10 and I think with CM11. Keep in mind that Cm10 had some issues with some apps and the front facing camera (never had an issue with Skype) as well as Bluetooth being flakey. Read up on it and try it out. You can always revert back to stock if it doesn't work out.
If you are concerned about Heartbleed you should check if 4.1.2 is vulnerable too. Its a pretty old build and i think we were already on 4.3 by the time it became a known vulnerability. I could be mistaken though, but you should check into it if that's a concern.

Some of the newer d2lte builds may need the latest bootloader to work. You can determine which bootloaders are supported by downloading the ROM, unzipping the ROM, and open the updater script in Notepad. The first few lines of the script will list the bootloaders that are supported.

Moving back to stock from Cyanogenmod

Hi all, I just dug up my old S3 and need to go back to stock. It has a CM11 nightly on there with the MK3 baseband and CWM recovery (and no Knox loaded!). Needless to say, I've been out of the loop for the past year or so and all of these threads about Odin and the newer updates have my head spinning! I want to go back to stock but also want the ability to re-root and load a different ROM later on. If I use the Odin one click here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2755793), would this cause any problem with re-rooting, recovery, or whatever else? I was burned on my newer Droid MAXX when I updated to a firmware that couldn't be rooted so I don't want that to happen in this case if possible.
TL;DR
If I'm on Cyanogenmod with MK3 (no Knox bootloader), what's the safest way to go back to stock with the ability to re-root later?
Thanks!

Yes, that is fine and can be easily rerooted.

But if I was to use the one-click, wouldn't that load Knox and that would be permanently disabling any downgrading in the future? If I just flashed the stock 4.3 ROM and installed as normal through CWM, that should keep everything the same (bootloader, modem, etc) correct?
Yes... 4.3 has Knox by the way.
I flashed the 4.3 ROM and haven't had any issues so far. Still managed to avoid installing Knox somehow. Download mode doesn't mention anything about a warranty bit.
