Things safe to remove from /system/app - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hey I was wondering what things are safe to remove from the system app folder but also still remain able to function safely. I was wondering this because I'm about to dual boot carbon nightly as soon as I can figure out what I can remove.

Where is the stock phone apk located? I should probably make a titanium backup of it no?

I would rename your original phone.apk to something like "original_phone.apk" instead of deleting it. You never know...

Its located in system/app
You only want to make a back up if you ever feel like getting it back in the future

I tried to install this, did everything right and I was unable to get service on my phone, also going into mobile networks section would crash, luckily I had made a nandroid backup just before doing this. Just a warning
On the Verizon model, there IS NO "phone.apk" in the System/App folder. There is a "SecPhone.apk", but making changes to it makes you lose your Verizon service, both voice and data.
I have phoneerrservice.apk and phonesky.apk, am I removing both?

I think you're talking about the touchwiz phone app. This thread is about the cyanogenmod9 phone app

What I'd really like is a notification that can be dismissed, not sure if that is possible though

I too am coming from a rooted Verizon phone. Is there any known workaround for installing this apk?

How did you install it? Did you use adb and push it to /system/app? Did you use root explorer and copy it to /system/app and then edit the permissions appropriately? Or did you just open the apk to install?
This is for CM9 users only.

I used root explorer and pushed it to system/app and change permissions. After that, I got no service, wifi worked but couldn't make phone calls or send/receive text messages. So I had to restore from Android backup

Look up a few posts. This is for AOSP builds. Not touchwiz

Re: Need help
1.) Are you on a ROM? Which ROM?
2.) What app? Is it one app or all apps causing this issue?
3.) So you have the 32gb sgs3?
4.) Have you done any mods that mess with your storage?

Re: Need help
I'm guessing you're rooted? Apps like Titanium Backup or Adaway may cause this issue. Go into any root browser app and in the root directory go into /data/app/ and delete any .odex files you may see and then reboot the phone. That should fix the issue.

There isn't any of those folders it's not working
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
There are always /data/app and /system/app folders in the root directory of your ROM so make sure to use a root browser to view them and first go into /data/app/ and look for any. odex files and delete them. That usually does fix the problem you're having.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Here's a screenshot example of what you should be looking for and deleting. My Battery Reborn apk has an odex file attached to it

There's no folder data/app there's system /app but closes when I open
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
The only way you'll only see /system/app is if you're looking in the rom.zip file. You must already be on the ROM you're having issues with and then you MUST see /data/app because that is where all your user installed apps are located. So 1)Flash the ROM you're having app issues with and 2) Install and open any root browser like the one in Rom Toolbox and you'll see /data/app.

OP, buy the app. Stop using app license generators. That will fix the problem.

Removing Bloatware

I rooted my phone, updated supersu, installed busybox. Why can't I delete stock apps?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
You need a File Manager with Root Access (I.e. ES File Explorer or Root Explorer) to remove stock apps from the /system/apps
Or
You can use Titanium Backup to remove /system/apps
Ok thanks man. This isn't my first foray into rooting. I have a HTC incredible, and a Samsung captivate, both rooted and on custom roms. On those it was far simmer to rid the bloat by simply going to the app manager and uninstalling the unwanted apps.

Anyone know where they are hiding the Google Chrome browser .apk? Also what all needs rt be deleted to rid the phone of knox? Or is it tied too far into the system for that?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Chrome is in /system/app and a /data/app.
Go into App manager first then uninstall it then use the File Manager to uninstall it from /system/app
As far as Knox.... I'm not too sure.

Delete the following files to get rid of KNOX, I still think there are few embedded files/processes but this should take care of the application iteself.
/system/app/KNOXAgent.apk
/system/app/KNOXAgent.odex
/system/app/KNOXStore.apk
/system/app/KNOXStore.odex
/system/app/KNOXStub.apk
/system/app/KnoxAttestationAgent.apk
/system/app/KnoxAttestationAgent.odex
/system/containers/ --> directory
/system/etc/secure_storage/com.sec.knox.store
/system/lib/libknoxdrawglfunction.so
/system/app/KLMSAgent.apk
/system/app/KLMSAgent.odex
Nice thanks guys.

Text files

Can someone tell me what these text files are? They built up in my sdcard0 and if they are not needed I would like to delete them?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using XDA Free mobile app
I believe they're just logs. Maybe something the kernel or kernel manager you use creates.
You could try and move them off the phone, after a nandriod, and see what a happens. If it was me, I would just keep the most current one on the phone.
Thanks. I unrooted to take the 4.4.2 ota so Ill just delete them and start over.
