[Q] No Tmobile Towers In Iowa. Help!!! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

i bought my note 3 in sc and came back to iowa to work til thanksgiving. Problem is i have no data signal no 4g 3g or any g. tech support says that tmobile has a contract with iowa wireless to allow text and talk but no data. i was wondering if there was a way to unlock the phone so that it can use other cell towers in the area to allow me to get data. will rooting help this or am i just stuck until i leave iowa. Please help really sucks to have so much phone and not be able to use it to its potential. Sorry if i am in the wrong section please move to the correct one. Thanks. Also my friend has 2g on his tmobile phone tech support says that he may not have it all the time though.

Rooting won't make a tower show up. The best you can possibly do would be to try to get activated on a different provide (AT&T for example). But you would have to do some work, and buy an AT&T account to use.
Otherwise, you are stuck with what you got. Coverage maps give you a rough idea of what is available.

what i would probably do is try to pickup a wifi hotspot from a different carrier with good coverage and use wifi calling on the phone, not ideal by far though $

If it's SIM unlocked you could try getting a straight talk SIM as those use AT&T's network. It's prepaid so you don't need to sign a contract and can end it after a month.

This is what I was thinking. Buy a prepaid SIM, stick it in your phone and see if it works.

Go to that unlock site, and yes, the unlock code for mine came in about 20 minutes. Then head over to the att thread. There is a page for Tmobile on att with setting for the MMS etc.

Rooted and CWM my epic 4gt, now how do I flash to straight talk and activate?

My ep4gt is rooted and CWM, but where do I find the rom for straight talk? I assume I need a rom to make this work on the ST unlimited plan.
Once flashed, how do I activate on ST?
Sorry searched couldn't find this answered.
You can't. Straight Talk uses T-Mobile's network which is GSM/AWS, and requires a sim card. This phone is CDMA only.

Straight Talk is CDMA (through Verizon) And no it hasn't been/ cannot be done as far as I know.
ST uses ATT, Verizon, and t mobile afaik.
There are mulitiple services on ebay offering to flash your cdma phone over to ST on the verizon network.

It looks like sprint changed some 3g passwords after the iphone release. thats why my speeds reverted to 1X. You can update the passwords but if you didnt flash the phone yourself then you need to get it back to whomever did it and they can update it. I actually just took my eg4t and flashed it to straight talk wireless instead. $45 unlimited everything(although they are supposedly cutting people off that use more than 3-5g per month) It runs off Verizons towers so my speeds quadrupled over sprints crappy 3g speeds."

I PM'ed him,no reply yet as to if there is a way to do this without paying to have this done.
Id save over a 100 a month if I could switch my lines to straight talk. Im kind of interested in this also, but its something ill want to do myself and not through ebay.
For Android phones, Straight Talk uses Sprint. They signed a contract back some months ago. They are not ties to a specific provider and will use what makes sense for them, so it could change over time.
Well these phones when flashed use the verizon network. There are lots of youtube videos where they call some number and it tells you the provider.
So i'm seeing that this is a paid for service only (to have phone flashed to ST)
Interesting. 2 people I know with ST, and both phones have SIM cards. Granted, both are clamshells, but good to know.

I bought two ST phones last year, the Samsung qwerty slider, and the one that looks like a blackberry. They were both cdma and ran off the Verizon network. They had bars where my sprint phone did not. I guess different regions use different carriers to piggy back on. There is no T-Mobile coverage in a 10 mile radius where I live.
Here you go:
http://www.fiercewireless.com/story...id-phones-will-use-sprints-network/2011-09-09
I'm sure Straight Talk is willing to use whatever makes the most sense for them so I wouldn't be surprised if they switch stuff around over time.
Maybe this process goes around that? But I have confirmed that these phones do work on the vrz network.

how did you flash yours?
I have my ET4G running on prepaid Platinumtel. You can take any Sprint (Android is easiest) phone and "hack" it to run on any Sprint MNVO network easy (with some diligent research on the web) such as Platinumtel, Virgin etc. I can't say how here, only that it can be done
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Do all the Sprint prepaid spinoffs (Boost/Virgin et. al.) offer unlimited data, or is it capped/throttled?
Sent from an Android-powered HP Touchpad.
Update:
You have to start the port process 24 hours before the idiot starts the flash process. It's not really a flash though.
It uses the verizon towers, no question. You can change around your prl's to determine which towers you wish to use.
So far, very happy with this

tmobile to straight talk wirless

ok so i can get a sim from straight talk , cut the end off and put it in the micro slot - confermed by androidarea51
my question is, since I am getting the runaround on a carrier unlock code, is as follows:
If I root, rom, and flash anntennas and modems to my phone, will I become carrer unlocked?
is there any way to become carrier unlocked without getting the code from tmobile/samsung/or cellunlockers that charge a fee
I am perfectly open to the option of doing this myself with little concern on complexity of the flashing metheds if that is what is required.
so Expert opinion?
You don't have to. Check EBay for unlock, it's very cheap there.
Which Straight Talk Sim?
If you get a Straight Talk T-mobile Sim then you wouldn't need to unlock the phone at all. It is not required if you use the tmobile sim in a tmobile phone just chose that sim and it uses the tmobile coverage map and speeds (the other choice is a At&t sim which you would pick if you had a At&t note ii or if you have known issues with the coverage of tmobile in your area) No need to pay for unlock code or hassle with tmobile to give you one with this option. You would probably get faster speeds using the tmobile sim option from Straight Talk over the At&t option sim. For me at my location in Florida I get double speeds on a tmobile one vs At&t depends on your location. Sim cards are $14 I think or less on Straight Talk you could get one of each and try one month of each and compare. Just thought I would mention this as an option in case you didn't know.

I received my unlock code for my T-mobile Note 2 in less than 48 hours, and right from T-mobile themselves and it was FREE... If you have been with T-mobile for 60 days or longer on a Monthly4G plan then you can request a free unlock for any phone you buy outright (off-contract) and you will then be free to stick ANY sim in that slot as long as it has the bands you require... Pretty sure that they will unlock it with out too much hassle but I guess it's all in who you get... (And the choices aren't GREAT by any means)!
I would prefer 3g everywhere n 3g at home with an att covered straight talk sim card as opposed to tmobile with 4 g in a few places an absolutly no signal at home regardless of what their falsified coverage map says (should be edge here according to that). I also want the cheeper plan.
I just looked a the wika n it says they partner with att n tmobile for gsm so I asked straightalk who they partner with in my area.
I have been told that straight talk opperates in the fasion of having an independent imei on the sim card as well as the sim code and dosent realy pay attention to the phones imei

Why Buy The Tmobile version of Galaxy Note II only to use it on ATT straight talk
I was just wondering what would the benefit of using the Tmobile version of the Galaxy Note II on AT&T-Straight talk and not using it on Tmobile-Straight talk. Wouldnt it make better sense just to use the AT&T version of the Galaxy Note II on the AT&T Straight talk network? ...and the Tmobile Galaxy Note II on the Tmobile Straight Talk Network?....Granted you have to wait a little longer until the AT&T version comes out but wouldnt that give you better service having the same provider???
Take some time and read up on some of the threads here. The tmobile version has the best long term growth potential. Then again, you could just wait. I love not having LTE, its such a horrible battery hog. I am getting 11mb download speeds on solavei (tmobile towers). But I work and play in a great coverage area.

[Q] I am looking to get solavei and would love a few questions answered if possible

I had a few questions since I am tried of sprint and want to get a n7100 on soalvei (tmobile network):
1) how would I know my area is refarmed? ( I live in north miami, fl )
2) is there a site or thread of a large sample of speed tests I can look up for my area on the network compatible with the n7100? The reason i ask is that I am afraid that I won't get reliable high speed (anything over 5Mbit down consistently is my goal).
3) I am on the fence about solavei and was wondering if tmobile has any options to purchase that do not throttle your speeds? I plan to use 20-30gb a month
4) Is there a trusted site that I can purchase an unlocked gsm n7100 that is compatible with the high speed tmobile network? I don't want to spend more than $600 if possible.
5) should I invest in the n7105 (has lte radio) since tmobile merged with metropcs and is rolling out LTE? (or should I wait for the note 3?)
I am completely out of the loop on tmobile news and would appreciate any help on making the switch over.
Thank you all.

I have been using Solavei since early September and I love it. Like you I came from Sprint (12 years!) and grew to hate them. I haven't really tried selling it much, was mostly interested in the price and plan. However just out of the occasional conversation I've already signed up 6 people which puts me at $40 a month, making my effective bill $9 a month. That's a bargain in my book!
There is a site with a map that is showing where the refarmed areas are www.airportal.de
As for throttling, I consider myself a very heavy user and rarely break 3GB's of data, I can't imagine using 20 to 30 and even any possible unthrottled plans you might find yourself having your account cancelled for that much data.
Unless you can confirm you are in a refarmed area I'd stick with the T-Mo branded Note 2.

Their IMEI checker doesn't check whether a phone is unlocked or not, it's just checking the number against a small database of known compatible phones. I have the TMO GN2 and it works fine with some caveats. Like everyone else with the TMO note2 I couldn't use the wifi hotspot without rooting and the APN settings for Solavei and the GN2 are slightly different than other Android phones and it took some experimentation on my part to get them correct so that MMS worked.
Beyond that if the phone has GSM and is unlocked it will work subject to potential speed issues for non TMO phones (except Blackberry).

I just grabbed the IMEI for a phone I knew would work and had the right sized SIM. The IMEI used to confirm the phone is not at all tied to the account and is only used to size the SIM and match to their database. Once you receive your SIM you can just activate and go.
For that matter I have bulk packs of Solavei SIM's and could just send you one and register you if you don't already have a sponsor, or find someone local who has SIM's in stock.

I did the same thing, my sponsor let me use his IMEI just to get the sim, and then once we liked the service, my wife used his sim for her own note 2.
As for question number 3, they do have a plan that doesn't have any cap, but I believe it's $89 per month.

Awesome, I am glad you like it. I was hoping to use my phone to download .nzb movies while on the go and use it as my main internet line via tethering. That is where I came up with the 20-30 gb figure.
Would solavei throttle me or block my account if I use that much data?

Doesn't sprint throttle as well? In this part of TN sprint coverage is plain garbage. Then again, I don't think I have ever lived in a good sprint coverage area.
T-Mobile seems to have the only truly unlimited plan that isn't throttled. I just don't think it's worth $89 a month. But I also pay only $34 per month for a 10 mb fiber line to the house. Ymmv.

Nope, sprint doesn't throttle at all, although it's hard to find a place with LTE or WiMAX which means, you'll be stuck on their 3G at best.

[Q] Rogers Note 2 SGH-I317M travelling to USA

I am travelling to the USA in a couple of months, and I had some questions about using my phone while travelling. My Note2 is the SGH-I317M Rogers (ATT). I have unlocked it.
From reading it looks like if I use the $3/day Tmobile option I will be stuck at edge speeds. What are my options for full speeds. I have read about something called Straight Talk?
It looks like I can order a sim online and get a month of service for $45 without a contract? Is this correct, is it my best option? Will I get LTE with this or just 3G?
If so do I just order the ATT sim card from them (http://www.straighttalksim.com/) and pick up a card at Walmart? Do the cards expire? Can I get a family member to buy it for me and mail it to me so I have it before I leave?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

T-Mobile will be EDGE only, It would prob be the best for you but only EDGE, and Yes Straight talk will only be 3G/HSPA+ which can be pretty good depends where you will be going Some places I get about 10-12megs on 3G on AT&T. and Yes its $45 with no Contract. And you can pick up the card at walmart But Wal-Mart does not sell the SIM`s I think. And the cards don`t expire well after 30 days after you use it anyway.
Any Prepaid Option here is only 3G/HSPA+ at the moment I bealive.
Or enable AWS as explained in some other threads here.
That way you'll have decent speeds on T-Mobile.

Well if your heading to Flordia Most of the ride down I know in SC, and GA its ONLY G on T-Mobile anyways NO Edge at all I had a few EDGE spots on my AT&T line but T-Mobile had G a lot of the time
There is a thread in the android development section talking about how to enable AWS on our phones.
It sounds a bit complicated but it seems it is working for people.
In any case if you do some googling you will see that T-Mobile has added a number of US cities to 3g/4g using the 1900 band which is one of the bands our Rogers/ATT phones uses. These include Tampa/Clearwater. Miami Fort Lauderdale etc. SO there is a good possibility of getting 3g without modifications.
If not, you can get the same plan at 2$/day at Edge speeds. At least it is cheaper if u aren't going to get the faster speeds.

[Q] P605 LTE What service

I know that the P605 will not work with LTE. However I can confirm that my straight talk Sim card works and I am getting HSPA+ (ATT Straight Talk Card) Here is my situation. I purchased a sim car from AT&T and activated it on the Gophone plan.. $35 per month for 500 minutes and unlimited text and data. For some reason no matter what APN I put in I don't get any data. I got data the first night I set it up and now I get no data. I have a International Version of the Galaxy S4 running with a GoPhone dumb phone $50 per month unlimited everything. (AT&T system does not recognize the IMEI so it reverts it to a dumb phone). Why isn't it working for my Galaxy Note 10.1 2014. I figure $35 bucks isn't a bad deal. Please assist or am I dead in the water.

I also have a P605, and I've been trying to get connected via Red Pocket Mobile, an AT&T MVNO, but I haven't had much luck. However, my issues are with Red Pocket's terrible customer service, and trying to get their smallest data plan (1GB for $10) connected to the sim card (that it took them 2 weeks to send).
I've read about a T-Mobile $30/month plan for BYOD devices that I will test out, once I get the sim card from them (currently backordered)...My device had a USA T-Mobile profile already present in the APN settings, I'm hoping it will work!

I had that Tmobile plan however my area is not fully framed for the 1900MHZ on tmobile. AT&T works but like I said must be something funky going one. At this point I may send my device back for a refund or sell it. I may just wait for a US carrier to get it. Yeah I know I won't get updates or support from US carriers.........wait damn that........ I will get my money back for this one and just go back to using my wifi version. (gave to my wife but will have to get it back) US carriers really suck when it comes to certain things.

Good luck getting your WiFi back from your wife
San Diego should be farmed to 1900 so I'm hoping for decent coverage around town. I faced the same dilemma here, wait or go for it... My old tablet was an Acer A500 so I really needed something (and some people complain about lag on the Note? Ha!).
If you want, I could send you the APN setting Red Pocket lists on their manual setup page, if you think that would help...
Bummer

Sorry... can't help with that
I noticed someone in another thread mentioned they had AT&T working. I can't post links, but in the Original Android Development section, "[RECOVERY] TWRP2.6.3.x TeamWin Recovery Project 12/27" at the top of page 11 there is a message about using AT&T and getting HSPA+ data.
Trying to post a link:

Good luck!
I'm expecting my P605 this Friday. I got it from Ebay. I have a TMO on my Note 3, so technically, should my sim card work on my P605 when I try it?
Will the APN seetings on the phone for TMO work on the P605? Thanks guys.

There shouldn't be any problems using the sim and APN settings. The data rate you will see will depend on your area. If TMO has 'reformed' the edge frequencies to HSPA then you will get decent data. Otherwise you may get stuck with edge...

So if I get 30/18 speed in my house and 20/3 more or less at work. *Should I expect to get the same speed when I put my sim in the tablet?

If your Note 3 isn't using LTE when it gets those speeds, then 'maybe'. Because the P605 doesn't have a perfect match for US freqs it still may not. I'm not sure where you are located, but if it's in a refarmed area you should (P605 supports HSPA on 1900). Here is the link (hope it goes) for the refarmed areas:

Sorry, I'm just learning all this too, and I can't really give you a definitive answer!

Hey bro you've been a big help. Thanks. I bought the tablet without knowing this issue. Anyway, I get a 4G LTE signal on my Note 3 so I guess that's LTE speed. I'm in Houston, TX and it says in the link you posted that we are one of the modernized market so we'll see.
Has anyone gotten the P605 to work on AT&T
Has anyone gotten this thing to work on the AT&T go Plans?
I need a carrier with a good rate that uses the AT&T network. Previously I would put my international devices on the go phone plan since it sees it in the system as a dumb phone however with this one it won't connect to the data. Gives me a message that I need to add a supported data plan.

Ok guys. Tried my TMO sim on this note 10.1 and it's only getting hspa+. I run a speedtest and got 11/3 d/u speed.
It's a lot better if I tether my note 3, I'm getting the same speed I get from phone.

Because the P605 doesn't support LTE in the US frequencies, HSDPA+ is the best you will be able to do. Your note 3 is tuned to use the LTE freqs here.

Yeah I was told about that. I just want to see how big is the difference. Making me think twice about this LTE version but I prefer the Snapdragon over Exynos.
Are all Wifi version on Exynos SOC?

I see. Thanks.
Maybe thats one reason I'll stick with this LTE version. Maybe someday TMO will utilize the same band. I hope
