Quick story that may help some other people:
I bought my Verizon Galaxy Nexus used on Craigslist. It was a good deal. Right away I bought the extended OEM battery as well as the Seidio extended battery. The first thing I noticed was that battery drain was unusually fast. I'm no noob to Android phones, and a few of my prior phones had bad reps for battery life (HTC Incredible, Samsung Nexus S, HTC Thunderbolt), but this was something special. For the first time in my life I felt the need to use Juice Defender, and that was only marginally helpful.
I never minded with the other phones because I would use the largest battery available, charge on my 40 min commute to work, charge on the commute home, and everything would be fine. The problem with the Galaxy Nexus is that not only would it drain fast. It would take unusually long to charge, espcially when using during a charge.
The next thing I noticed was that the phone was getting very hot, especially in the top left corner, even when it wasn't doing much. Turning off LTE seemed to help but not much. After a couple months of use, trying ROM after ROM, kernel after kernel, reverting to stock, etc, things took a turn for the worse. I would go to sleep with a pretty good charge and wake up the next morning with a dead battery. Sometimes the battery was so dead it wouldn't even take a charge.
I called Samsung, and they were very responsive. Even though I wasn't the original owner and had no proof of purchase, they paid shipping both ways and had my phone repaired and back in my hands within a week. The paperwork that came with the repaired phone just said that a "component" had been "replaced". I called and asked them which component was replaced, but they couldn't give me any more details than that.
My repaired phone gets warm sometimes, even very warm, but I haven't noticed that hot upper left corner. Meanwhile, the battery life is night and day better than it has ever been. I can get through the day fine with the Samsung OEM extended battery, and the Seidio lasts damn long like it should but never did. The batteries now charge much faster as well. I can finally enjoy this phone like it's supposed to be enjoyed, and I have no more thoughts about upgrading some time soon.
Maybe Samsung just has amazing customer service, but the speed with which they handled this as a warranty repair makes me wonder if this is a known issue on their end. In Googling for a solution to my problems, I came across other reports of people who found their battery suddenly dead, unable to take a charge.
Here's my advice: If your battery life is atrocious - and I mean atrocious even with the screen pretty dim, no accounts syncing, LTE disabled, factory stock with no apps installed...
and you find your Galaxy Nexus taking a long time to charge (using the OEM charging cable)...
and your G-Nex gets super hot in the upper left corner even when it isn't doing anything...
then try sending it in for a warranty repair. The phone I bought on Craigslist was defective, and after struggling with it for months, all it took was a one week repair and I'm 100% content. It's a completely different phone.
:good: glad you got it fixed
I've had the exact same issue recently, phone would get extremely hot especially with the screen on. Never had it not charge, but it would never stay at 100% very long while charging. Screen on time was pathetic and usually not much more than about 30 minutes.
Today, I decided on a whim to completely drain off my battery, phone wouldn't even turn on when I was done. Recharged to full with it off and it's running cool as a cucumber. 7.5 hours since I took it off charge and an hour of screen on with a bit of streaming over LTE and I'm still at 53% battery (whether that's good or not is questionable, but it's a massive improvement for me.)
Am I positive that's what fixed my phone? No, not at all. If it starts acting up again I'll probably talk to Sammy about a replacement, but for now I'm happy.

that's kinda bit questionable still. just an hour of screen time and almost half of battery means there's still a huge space for improvement
Almost half of that was streaming on LTE and in general being an attempt at eating battery and causing the heat issue to come back. Coupled with the fact that I live in the boonies and my signal is never stellar, I'm fairly happy with the time.

Good to know
Totally different outcome for me...
I had the exact same issue; slow charging, horrible battery life (even after a new battery and a factory reset). After two weeks without my phone, today I got it back. Not only did I get the same phone back (based on the serial number) I got the *same battery* back. This was also the result of a "replaced component" (which no one could tell me what it was).
edit: I should add, I bought this phone new from Google directly. It worked great from May until September when this problem suddenly started happening. Prior to September, I could easily get 2 days out of a charge with my typical usage. After it broke, I was lucky to get 8 hours, even while the phone was ~80% idle. You can see in the screen shot that the phone was burning around 8.8% an hour even while completely idle. I mentioned all this to the person who created the service request, but obviously that didn't make a difference.

I'm so disappointed, but I'm not even sure where to start. I will not go without my phone for another two weeks. I'm going to call tomorrow and see what they'll do, but for now I'm more than a little pissed off.
I'm on my third GN and they've all had this problem I replaced the first 2 directly from Sprint. Pretty fed up with the phone. Friends of mine have this phone and don't have any issues at all... what are the odds that I were to get 3 defective phones in a row?
I'd consider going through Samsung for warranty, but I can't go without a phone for up to 2 weeks.
Sorry you two have had such a bad experience. My replacement Nexus continues to be terrific. While my Nexus was in the shop, I used my old phone (Thunderbolt) and enjoyed the change during that time.

Samsung tech sux.. i had the samsung captivate glide sent it in 2 times and they have yet to fix the prob.. the first time i sent it in they replace the main board, and when they put it back together they drove a screw up through the keyboard.. and still sent it to me like that.. the second time i sent it back, i mentioned what they did to my phone, they said they would fix it but they didnt..
Samsung is the worst.. bla bla bla
Hopefully i dnt have probs with my nexus. Ive only had it 2 weeks though.. so we'll see

phone number?
I too am having problems with my galaxy nexus, its burning threw battery almost one or two percent every 2 minutes, even while phone is on idle, is there a number for Samsung you can provide that I can call to see if I can fix this problem?
Aloha
I currently have the Galaxy S3 which is one of the best devices I have ever owned. Unfortunately the battery is quite disappointing. I only get 7 hours of battery life on heavy use (Wifi off, screen off, GPS off and only 3G) and I am thinking about switching to the Note 2 which has a superior battery.
My question is: is the Note II's battery life vastly superior to that of the S3 or isn't it that big? How long does your phone last on heavy usage?
Thanks
I regularly get 5 hours screen on time. I have no issues making it through a 15 hour day on a charge. The Note2 has a 3100mah battery, even with the bigger screen it will do better then an S3. I only owned an S3 for 20 days and returned, so I really don't have a clear idea of what battery life was like. At the time I liked my Note1 better and returned the S3.
All right thanks. Does the Note 2 get hot often?

Nope, the Note 2 never gets hot. I know what you mean by hot because I have a colleague who has the S3 ...

i Have them both and the N 2 isway better i get easily 7 hours screen . The phone never gets hot. Its vety fluid. I hate using my s3 now lol. I might sell it for a grey note 2
Swyped from another galaxy
I have an S3, used if for about 4 months (wife has it now), and I can easily say the N2 has MUCH better battery life. I got maybe 7-8 hours out of my S3 (moderate use during the day) before I had to charge, the N2 I can get about 12-14 hours, same amount of use. The S3 is a great phone, but the N2 is much nicer as far as battery life, and is just so much more 'snappy' to use.
Much better battery than s3. Mine gets warm at the top around the camera area if I play need for speed most wanted for about half an hour or more straight. But not as hot as my hox got

used to have S3. but I sold it after 3 mths.. becos I simply love note2. battery life... by I used both devices the same way but of cos. not to the extend of doing indepth research.
I have to charge my S3 at 12pm after leaving hme since 7am.
on the other hand .. I can use my note2 until 9pm when it hits 20%.
if without the use of chat app. it will last even longer.
fyi pls.

My Note 2 battery lasts 30~35 hours with moderate use. That includes gps off, wifi on always, 3g off, 20~30 minutes of voice calls, 4~5 hours screen on, everything in sync (dropbox, skydirve, camera uploads to both dropbox and google drive, gmail, etc), browsing, tweeter, and some games. My experience with Note 2 is much better than Note 1 and the good thing is it does not get hot like Note 1 or One X (could reach upto 47 C even with few minutes of game playing). Very moderate temperature (max 35 C) even after playing 3d games for some time.
Using galaxy n7100 i have 10:00 hrs screen on, and using gsIII i had 06:30 hts screen on.

It depends on your usage. I get about 3-3.5 hours of screen time, because I use my phone for instant messaging and downloading and uploading, that's all. I mean, I use the calendar, and other apps. But 99% of my battery usage is screen + data. I go to bed with about 1.5 - 2 hours of screen time with 30-50% battery life. A lot of wifi, but at work no 3G (hardly 2G!) and very low wifi signal. So I imagine a lot of the drain is from the strain of trying to hold onto data connections while I continually send messages / pictures / download / upload / etc.
But for sure it has a VERY good battery. I had the note 1, my partner has a S3 and the Note 2 has great battery life compared. Once again, it depends on your usage.
I have been impressed with the battery on this phone the last few days. Now that Im up and running with all my apps I gave it some good tests the other day.
On my note 3, while driving with nav and music streaming from google, I would lose about 8-10% an hour.
This weekend I did about 5 hours of total driving, with nav and music on the whole time. With a few phone calls, by the end the of the day, I was still at 46%.
Last night I tested just music. I had a 2 hour round trip. (Hour there, hour back, all highway and the same route, so cell signal would be the same)
Driving down, I started at 80℅ and arrived with 76℅. No music was playing. Phone was ideling.
On my drive back, I started at 75% and ended with 71℅. Music streaming from google the whole time.
I will be testing more, but that is pretty damn impressive in my book.
I will post my settings and turned off apps list later.
Attached is a screen shot of battery use from this weekends driving.
I agree completely. I didn't have the note 3 but I did have the note 2 and this battery dominated it. And the Fast Charge is amazing 50%in 30 mins. WOW

As am I
I am VERY impressed and HAPPY. Coming from an S3 that would be at 50% by the time I got to my office at 9:30am. Granted I am up early and our work starts the same. I am handling everything first thing before my trek in. Anyway, yesterday I awoke to a full battery and decided to try it out. GPS, calls, email, normal business day type stuff. I had 12% left by the time I fell asleep. NIIIICE
Its 2:20pm here and I'm at 62%. My Note 3 would be about 30-40% at this point.

It seems the more I use the phone, the better battery life gets... The only time I have seen a considerable drain is when the screen is above 40-50%.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA Free mobile app
I'm not that impressed. Don't get me wrong, it's way better than the 4 hours I got on my S4, but I am a seriously heavy user, and I only get about 9 hours before I need to charge. It's largely because my brightness is at 100% but I expected a full day of usage between charges lol
I agree. The more I use the Note 4 the better the battery life "seems" to get. I don't know if it's just settling down or what but it does seem to have improved over the last couple of days.
All stats are without root.
Day 1 - 100% full charge 6 hour battery life.
Day 1 - updated with OTA - approx 7 hour battery life @100%
Day 2 - full software update with Samsung switch utility
Day 2 - Battery 11 hours light usage messaging a few fast calls and in stand by while I was at the hospital for my shift. Recharged while making dinner to 100%
Day 3 - ! Missed Shift ! 1 hour late to work. The phone was in standby for 7 hours and drained out. My alarm didn't go off to wake me up.
Day 4 - returning this POS to the TMO store in 15 minutes.
Back to my nexus 6
And yes my fingers print scanner does not work either or if it does it takes multiple attempts
Yeah no doubt some serious battery issues as has been well noted. Mine was 85% after multiple daytime charges at 3pm and at 7pm it was at 9%. I was barely able to get an Uber and was down to 2% when I got home. I was in a very strong signal area those few hours. Pretty close to returning mine as well.

Never depend on a phone to be your primary clock alarm or camera for that matter. Anything can happen, even with devices with the best hardware and software.
Sorry you're having these issues with your device. There are ways to improve the battery life on the device but if it's causing you this much distress, by all means, you should get something else. I hope you find something more suitable to your needs.
I'm rooted. After 2.5 hours, my phone is at 98% after a full charge. There are also unrooted solutions to the battery drain issue.

Since I've been using Android devices, it seems I've always had some sort of battery drain issue. I've always been able to track down the culprit(s).
Preroot, my S6 Edge had decent battery life. No serious drain from what I could see. Post root, the drainage was literally 10% an hour and the device ran warm to hot on standby. The various fixes mentioned in this forum helped immensely and now I'm getting excellent battery life. Honestly speaking, I was on the verge of returning this device myself prior to finding solutions. I hope you all find one that works. If not, I hope you find a device that works better for you.
Fingerprint works excellent with my edge phone charges in roughly in an hour more and less.

The fingerprint scanner is more finicky than the one on the iphone and you have to be careful to cover the button with your thumb. The top part of the thumb is a no go where that worked fine on ip6. It seems to need more proper alignment to register.

I'm not having issues with the finger print scanner either. Are you going into the Fingerprint Management options to try several finger print reads? I have four different fingerprint profiles and many different finger positions registered on the device. So my fingerprint scans rarely fail.
It has taken me 2 weeks to get great battery life out of mine. Today I'm at 14hrs on with 3hrs sot and 35% battery left. I did the smart switch thing on xda we're it takes your phone back to stock and puts the latest firmware in it. I've got to say in extremely happy with it now. And my finger print works 90% of the time so I'm good there to. I came from the nexus 6 also and it's actually the same battery life I was getting on it now.
I would try that method. But give it time. It was about 4 days after doing the smart switch before the great battery life came into effect.

I have excellent results with the fingerprint scanner... I would say better than 95%
I too went with for fingerprint profiles... Both thumbs and both index fingers
ok so at first battery horrible i cycled it it 0% and recharged 1st test 6.5 hrs of standby i lost 23% i thought it was decent but way more than I'm use to.. fingerprint i can say works 99% of the time.. i did the samsung push update which help a little with battery
I'm going to just wait it out to root/rom for a few weeks until more testing has been done. It's surprisingly lean in it's stock experience.
So far very impressed with this rendition of touch wiz. Seems like most of the major lag issues have been resolved and they've added a bit of material design to the UI.
Only 2 issues I'm noticing this far is my S5 got better battery life than this device, and my S5 and wife's note 4 are both nearly twice as bright on high brightness

Well ever since I've got this phone I've been pretty impressed by the battery life. I get bored at work and tend to surf the Web or play games on my phone. My record was 29 hours without a charge with heavy usage but I didn't think to screen shot and share. But this round I've been playing clash of clans pretty heavily. Specifically in the last 4 hours I've been on the game for about 3 straight hours. I just wanted to see what other people's results are too.

How are you getting 29 hours? I updated to the nightly for CM12 and I went from 100% to 65% in about 2-3 hours. This is frightenly fast and enough to consider taking my 1 day old Note 4 back.
Cool thanks and any kernels used or just all stock?
Pretty well know if you're using Wi-Fi it'll help with battery life and taking back a perfectly good phone because you aren't getting the same results as someone else is crazy. Heavy user? Nah not really.

I use wifi a lot through out my day but there is about 4-5 hours on mobile network using Pandora
I'm a heavy user with usually no Wi-Fi available. I use my hotspot a little during the day, torrent sometimes, surf my usual forums and sites, and usually a lot of music through bt speaker or ear buds. If I get eight hours I'm happy and I do. My phone has never died. I'm on lollipop.
I usually average between 5-6 hours screen on time on mobile data & went as long as a little over 7 & half hours screen on time on wifi.

My girlfriend has the S6 and she can't even compare to my battery life. I'm not sure why either. Note 4 is a bigger screen and I'm on my phone more and I still out last her battery. But then again hers is unrooted and bloat packed. Maybe when she gets root and I optimize it some it'll improve.
Bigger battery helps a lot. Stop all sprint apps. Take it from there.

Note 2 had the best battery life ever hands down, & yeah been hearing a lot of horror stories about the atrocious battery life on the S6E. I was almost thinking of just giving my girl my Note 4 (she still has the Note 3) & using her available upgrade to grab the S6E on a 12 month lease, but after hearing ppl complain of only getting 2-3 hours screen on time out of it I quickly changed my mind. 2500mah sealed battery powering a 2K screen is ridiculous & Sammy should've never made the battery non removable.

idk about best battery... When I'm on a debloated stock rom, I get 2-5hrs on a fully charged OG battery. When I switched to a ASOP based lollipop rom, I was getting 7hrs+ out of the OG battery, but then it started freezing. Now, my note 2 is not really charging. I'm hoping with a Note 4 + zero Lemon battery, I can get 14hrs+ out of it.
