Dang. I was just going to post this up from their twitter feed @googlenexus
Anyone think that the verizon training for two weeks, ending on the 21 st, n this contest ending on the 21 st, indicate a possible 22 of november being the date they release this phone into the wild?
I hope so. My sprint contract ends on the 20 th. Can't wait to jump ship to the big red.

Last years puzzles were very fun, but even on the more difficult ones they were solved almost instantly. Gonna have twitter constantly F5'd
Why is it on Twitter?
Why is Belgium not eligible, when Netherlands is?
Seems like the puzzle isn't being answered in seconds this time...it's almost an hour now. Not sure what to make of it myself.
I don't get it either:/ to me it's just a bunch of androids lined up with different colored circles around them and it seems like some people are guessing that it says "google"! How the heck do they see the word google in it! Beats the he'll outta me..
Sent from my Samsung galaxy tab 10.1
People just throwing stuff out. About 500000 people put 44 countries from 6 continents...if you just look at the contest rules it lists about 12 countries that are eligible, so I'm assuming those are the actual release countries...whatever.
I tried making stuff into map coordinates and came up with nonsense.
Oh well, I'm done looking at this thing now, stomach demands attention.
It's a numerical thing. Likely a coordinate, guessed on the format you're supposed to post it on Twitter. Probably a coordinate as to where it's manufactured.
Google just tweeted a hint: the dots are similar to semaphore flags. However it should be more challenging to decode than semaphore flags since only two flags are present at once and flags are binary (either present or not present), but in this puzzle up to 7 of the 8 directions have something present and there are six possible presences, from 0 dots to 5 dots...

i was thinking semaphore as well just couldn't think of how they related at least i thought the same as someone else though
I've been trying to figure this out but I can't figure out how the dates are to be read. I was using this to help me, but obviously there are multiple letters on each android. That's where the challenge lies.
I was using this to help me. It may also help you guys:

It is semaphore. Each Android represents a word, not just a letter. It translates to "what did J Cook call Hawaii"... Which is the sandwich islands. It's already been solved.
Thanks. That was quick. Hope whoever got it first ends up winning. But in case it's a random drawing, I put my tweet in.

LOL! I didn't think about that, but it is a very valid point. +1 internets to you sir.
Since indiegogo apparently thought the best way to dodge accountability was to poof the entire campaign on their site, I figure a thread here is warranted. Please post if you never received your door as well. I'm rather curious what percentage of his orders actually did get filled.
As for myself I emailed indiegogo and PayPal and neither seem to be inclined to take much action to actually get anyone's money back. Perhaps if there's enough of us an action can be forced. I really don't like the idea of letting this slide
Having received the email explanation today about the doors, I made the thread title more hospitable. I already went and grabbed another door from Gruber which I'm happy with though, so will be requesting a refund myself. How that turns out will decide how I feel about this.
Yeah same boat here. Not exactly thrilled that my attempts to contact both through the indigogo site and to 0Mie himself on xda have gone unanswered. I contributed I think about the 8th of March, and not long after that would have been the last email update I received from him about progress and dispatch updates.
Wow - I came here just to post this thread...
Never received the battery door, and PayPal closed the dispute because the transaction was more than 45 days old... That'll teach you to give the benefit of the doubt to the person. Did ANYONE receive a door? The contribution level got up to ~$7,000... He had a website up for a few days, but it looks like the domain is no longer registered to him -- Who-Is registry.
Does anyone know who this guy is? I found that Indiegogo thread here on XDA...
Wow ...I guess he was on some news sites as well ...damn ..

Well - looks like we're SOL --
utcu said:
He took my $65 contribution for a battery cover and spare battery, as well as many others' contributions and disappeared. The last I heard from him was over a month ago. He sent out an email saying some of the covers were done and that he was working on others and if anyone needed to get a hold of him to contact him through his site. (andetch.com)
As of a week or so ago, the site is no longer active, indiegogo and paypal have pretty much told all of us we're SOL, and people who were told their doors "were shipped" never received them. Both of the sites he operates from have been taken down and no one can contact him on his Google+ page either. I would never talk negatively on someone without good reason and I'm not sure if maybe he had something come up and couldn't follow through with the project but any type of response or refund would be nice. Here's the original project page with comments from many other unhappy contributors. http://www.indiegogo.com/Galaxy-Nexus-Laser-Etched-Doors?c=comments

I hope this guy goes to hell, seriously... I was one of the first people that contributed when I saw his campaign and even helped promote it a little bit. I feel betrayed and it makes it even worse that I helped promote this liar.
And I'm in the same boat, haven't received any updates, emails, or battery door yet.
Still had his google plus page from early in the campaign. This is what convinced me he is dodging rather than just MIA for some real reason. The plus page has been unused a while, but there's a tweet a few days back, and we're adding stuff to our 'wish list' on april 10th...which is after my 2nd polite email inquiry about what the status of the campaign is...

I received mine. I ordered it on March 12th via his website (they day before I ordered the Google limited from ebay) and they both came in on the 31st. I had to contact him via an xda pm after a week of not hearing anything about the shipping though, but I eventually got it. I think he said he got swamped with orders plus was busy at work so he got delayed getting the orders out.

I would love to be able to take back the other post I made in the other thread. He was nothing less than great to speak with at the beginning of the campaign. I'm definitely frustrated at this point though. No responses to emails or inquiries just seems too suspicious. There's also the matter of his sites now being inactive. If I end up getting a response, a refund, or what I paid for I'll be more than happy to delete the posts I've made.
I think we'd all love to give the benefit of the doubt, but the ball is very much in his court to respond and he isn't at all.
His profile shows activity on xda after this thread began yesterday. If there's an explanation, we're listening.

Hey guys. I posted in a different thread (can't remember which) that I emailed the HTCDev support team basically pitching a b*tch about the fact that Verizon's source has yet to be posted and that HTC is in violation of GPL. I was told it would be escalated and that was roughly a week ago.
I just received a call from HTCDev Support and they have informed me that Verizon's kernel source should be posted on HTCDev in the next day or so. Huzzah! Who said sending random b*tchy emails about stuff doesn't result in anything?
There ya go devs! official kernel source. Have at it! :good:

Hey dude just wanted to let you know in some places it may or may not be illegal to record a conversation without the other parties consent.
In like two minutes of Google research I have come up with (Assuming you live in the US) that there are about 12 states that require the consent of both parties and about 38 states + D.C only requiring one party to consent.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/google-taking-aim-at-device-modders-in-android-4-4-kitkat/
This concerns me greatly as a kernel modder...
I am worried they aren't going to release the source code until the One gets the Kit-Kat update, thereby enforcing this dm-verity feature...my only hope is that there is a toggle for it in the source. We shall see.
Still havent heard back from HTC yet on my end, just this: "Thank you for providing this information. I have forwarded your request for the Kernel Source Code to our Specialist. They should be in contact with you within 7-10 business days. They may be in touch with you sooner. It just depends on their current work load as they work on a first come first serve basis. In the meantime, Bryan, I hope you enjoy your week!"

The issue with that is when they record conversations from customers calling in they don't ask for consent right? They just do it. I'm sure it's probably frowned upon. At this point, with how long they've basically not cared about violations of GPL with their refusal to release source, I don't care. Any excuse they try to give us will be BS. T-Mo and AT&T released source for their one. Both 4.1 and 4.1.2. When any of us email to complain about it we always get the same canned "We understand that kernel source code is valuable and essential for all developers..." blah blah blah. They know but they don't care enough to release it. I'm tired of it. I appreciate the warning and I will delete the part about me recording the convo but honestly I shouldn't have had to even felt the need. I had a feeling it was possible they would try to blow smoke up my @$$ and attempt to placate me and say it was being released soon so I wanted documentation. They don't offer transcripts of the conversations freely when you speak to them. Essentially they can say anything they please and not be held accountable for it and that is the exact opposite of customer service and support that HTC likes to claim they pride themselves on. Customer service and support doesn't end at device purchase. You can't claim to be developer friendly and then deny the very thing developers need to develop on the platform.
HTC clearly made one of the best android smartphones of all time. I just wish they would actually support the dev community since, you know, they're "Developer Friendly". Sorry for the rant but I'm tired of waiting... and waiting... and receiving "we know it's important" email responses.

Yeah I saw that when that story broke on the main XDA page. It seems very anti android. I found it odd Google would be taking that stance.
The response is the first response I received. Then it was exactly a week and I received that phone call last night saying it would be released. I just checked AGAIN and it has yet to be uploaded to HTCDev. I will be calling them and inquiring about it after I get off work as that would be exactly 24 hours since I received their call. If that's the case it doesn't make sense. If that's all they were going to do then why even call period? It's a waste of their time and mine. That's an asinine method of customer support. I'd rather them not even call. I didn't expect a call. I expected the "escalation" to be the end of it. This is frustrating as hell. I'm calling them this evening and I will point-blank ask if they ever truly intended to release source or if they were just telling me what I want to hear to shut me up. That line of thinking is idiotic. You tell someone that, when honestly you don't have to (even if HTC wants them to it makes no sense), they are going to follow up.
Hi all, it appears that Mike Reid, the developer of the original FOSS Android Auto Head Unit app, has sadly passed away.
We are continuing the development in a new app, which we call the OpenHU Project. It stands for Open Head Unit.
Just want to address some one concern that some have already raised: OpenHU will continue to be fully open source under GPL, forever.
The only thing that may change is that we are trying to get permission from Mike Reid's family to relicense under GPLv2, as Mike had intended to permit those uses personally - and he obviously can't anymore.

$10,000 Bounty Details: http://wiki.console.com.co/w/Console_Developer_Rewards
Finally - we are offering a $10,000 bounty, as the first full round of our Console Developer Rewards initiative. We had previously planned to focus on Android for x86, but Intel and Android were on troubled waters at the time... so we didn't fully launch it. In the wake of Mike's passing, we felt the best thing to do was focus on this effort.
As you may have heard, some recent changes to GMS (Google Play Services) broke Mike's app. But we are already hard at work, and you can win a portion (or all) of the $10,000 by helping us fix it!
Reserved
Reserved for future use...
Hi all, some good news, continuing from the old thread. Mike was persistently doing battle with a private Google file, libsslwrapper.so. It's part of GMS. As you can see in the source code for OpenHU, when searching for this file, Mike left several hooks for swapping in old versions, in order to A/B test.
By replacing that file with the old version (from GMS 9.0), it appears we can use OpenHU with GMS 9.2.56!
Unfortunately, this is only a partial fix, one Google could break at any time, so the bounty continues. We need to identify what broke with the latest changes.
But this is good news because we can isolate the problem to an SSL link between OpenSSL and the libsslwrapper.so file. Now, we need the community's help the most - because we don't have SSL engineers on-staff. Don't count on us to fix this, we need all-hands here.
Full instructions on how to swap libsslwrapper.so with the old version (via ADB, sans root) will be posted shortly.
How about instead of paying someone $10,000 for a future scam project you use that $10,000 to refund the backers you ripped off from your other scam you still haven't delivered on nearly 3 years later: Console OS.
You still have t-shirts and physical goods to deliver as well. You have $10,000 to throw around for this though.....
Truly a piece of work.
So this money is coming from the ConsoleOS funds? Did you know that the front page of android-x86.org calls you out as a scammer?

You did fully launch it. Twice. No one bit the first time because they knew better. You changed the submission date. Still no one bit. Oh, let me guess. It was yet another "soft launch"?
Also, where did the 10,000 dollars come from? You've said for months you've had no money to refund backers and you and your "team" had been living on less than minimum wage for a couple years now. You also said you could only afford refunds if you sold the rebranded Teclast hardware that you've announced but have provided zero details about so far. Wait...
"Similarly, we reserve the right to substitute devices, or provide refurbished devices if necessary for fulfillment."
There will be no cash. You'll give away old hardware and deduct the MSRP from the 10,000 cash promise. That's if you ever manage to give away anything at all.
I think anyone thinking about participating has to right to know explicitly where the money is coming from and please don't say "industry partners."
What's funny is your "continued development" of this project is the exact same thing you did with ConOS, grab code that someone else wrote, try to find other people to fix the issues for you, and then sell that for profit.
Intel and Android-x86 wrote Console OS' code, and now you're taking Mike Reid's code. Maybe you should stop taking other people's work and make something yourself. I mean, you have developers in Paris and a team to help you....right? Or is the extent of your "collective" coding knowledge changing names and lines on The GitHub?
But let's not kid ourselves. There is no team, no we. It's been you all along, just you.

I've reopened this thread... but a word of advice.
Please keep things on-topic and civil here because I don't want to have to return for cleanups or the like.
Also, I've left the recent posts in the thread but I don't want such posts continuing... You've had your say so now leave it alone.
Thanks.

I will respect the moderators and only focus on OpenHU in this thread. Please leave it there, thanks, this is not an appropriate place to discuss Console OS.
We did not "take" any code from Intel, it was licensed fully. Similarly, Console was working with Mike Reid up to the day he went to hospital. All this code in this project is licensed under GPL. OpenHU will remain under GPL. Period. You cannot steal GPL code if you use it under GPL.
As to the terms of CDR, we never even launched a bounty previously. The claims above that we did, are false. We halted such efforts after Intel informed us Android on IA may be halted. See the OP for a true/correct history. We will pay every penny of Console Developer Rewards, and it will be pretty darn clear if we don't.
We stated in the revision history that we are using cash only based on feedback - there will be no gadget giveaways (in this round, though as stated - future CDR rounds may use gadget rewards).
But again, this thread is for OpenHU. If you want to try and save the late Mike Reid's work, please contribute. If not, please leave.

Funny.
From the December 25, 2015 Update:
Shortly after our Kickstarter ended, Intel suspended development of Android-IA for Intel Core processors. Later it extended this to all PC tablets as well. You will notice that Android-IA on Intel’s web site today only supports Minnowboard MAX - an IoT innovation board.

and the title of the next update: Coming Next Month: Console Developer Rewards (on Jan 2, 2016)
and the one after that: Console Developer Rewards - The Details... Followed by Lollipop! (March 1, 2016) where:
Our first cycle for Console Developer Rewards will roll out publicly from March 2 to 31. When it does go live (on the 2nd), it will be available at Console.com.co/devrewards

Sorry, I'm not going to engage. We never launched Console Developer Rewards. The first planned run March 1 was halted (and never introduced) due to Intel briefing us that they were planning to make major changes to their Android FOSS support. See: http://console.com.co/thoughts-on-chips/
We never offered any developer bounties prior to this one. No developer submitted code to us previously, with an expectation of being paid. This is our first go of it, and we'll pull out our credit cards to pay for it if need be. We want Mike's hard work to continue.
This is our first actual campaign for CDR. If you want to help save Mike Reid's work, contribute to that topic. All other topics are off-topic, and moderators have stated are prohibited. Please leave it there, thanks.

No one claimed you launched a "bounty" specifically. You're playing semantics. We said you launched Console Developer Rewards, the program itself. You claimed you didn't launch the program itself fully and asuka has already posted the links that prove you did.

Liar. "The first 30-day cycle of Console Developer Rewards will run March 21 through April 20. "
Quoted from: http://console.com.co/devrewards/
Why was it pushed back? From your own update:
"We met our self-imposted timetable to post terms, but we didn't give people enough time for feedback, and to properly inform the projects we plan to support.
We're moving back the first month of Console Developer Rewards to March 21, a week from today. This will give us time to have everything in-place and do it correctly."

If you don't wanna discuss Console, fine. This project: your own page for the bounty of THIS project that YOU link to doesn't say this round is cash only. It says what I pasted, that gadgets can be substituted for cash, and the rules can change, at any time. But if you do want to use cash for THIS program (we're remaining on topic), again I ask, where is it coming from? You conveniently didn't address that at all in your reply.

Ahem, asked and answered. I'm putting up the bounty money out of my own pocket.

And this would a different pocket from the one that the ConsoleOS funds went into

Hey, why don't you be a man and take that same $10,000 to refund the couple thousand Kickstarter backers you shafted?
Or better yet, take that $10,000 and deliver the physical rewards you promised. Remember this post you made on May 13?: https://twitter.com/iConsole/status/731224776815992832
"Finally slaying spam demons is just one of the things we've checked off this week. Next up, perk shipments for #ConsoleOS. Then new stuff!"
That's almost 2 months ago. You still need to fulfill your campaign obligations before beginning another vaporware project of yours.

PM me with your Kickstarter ID and I will investigate. Our last update made clear that our pivot to hardware will extend refund options to KS backers - or give them a credit towards our upcoming hardware.
We've committed to refunding people on Console OS. What more do you want?

Out your own pocket...."if need be". So you post a 10,000 dollar bounty and only to reveal after being asked that you don't actually have it and will maybe have to put it on a credit card?

I don't see the point of the animus here. If Console can't come up with the money over the next 90 days, I'm personally promising to pull it off a credit card and back it myself.
That's not Kickstarter backer money, and we've offered to refund backers in our June 1 update. Edit: See our June 1 update if you are a backer - https://www.kickstarter.com/project...t-android-remastered-for-the-pc/posts/1592356
No KS funds from Console OS are being used here, period.
Please respect moderators wishes that discussion related to Console OS end with that. This is totally derailing the effort to salvage Mike's app... and if you think you can do better, please do.

Questions about the money are on topic. Now here is the problem. The problem is you're asking people to do work with zero guarantee of payment. You've just admitted you don't have the money. They're supposed to go off your promise, given your history? Again, your own page says you don't have to give them any money at all. You can substitute hardware at any time.

Sorry. I'm trying to save this app. I will keep trying. If you don't consider it a trustworthy offer, that's up to you. I'm putting a personal guarantee on payment for code submitted within the time period stated on the CDR page for OpenHU (June 24 to August 31). Edit: Provided it actually fixes the issue - I hope the terms of the bounty are pretty clear.
We did have to put some legal terms in there, this is being run by a company. It is to a degree, arbitrary. It's FOSS code, and we are committing to paying in cash for this initial round. The gadget legalese was written prior. This round will be paid in cash.
If you have a better idea for reviving Mike Reid's app - please provide it. I welcome a better effort.
