Best rom best method - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hello everyone, of course im a noob and am not an advanced user by far. My question is what do you all consider the best rom for t989 (stability, speed, size, EFFICIENCY, look, customization), and what is the best and safest way to flash them?
I haven't seen much about bootloader but interested. When I bought the phone on ebay, the previous user said he already rooted and installed previous roms like jedi mind trick. He installed a stock version of JB 4.1.2 for me. I think it's still rooted Which direction should I head? Also, what do these roms limit me to that I am already able with my current rom?

Best rom threads are frowned upon. A moderator will soon step in and say start flashing and see for yourself....then they'll close the thread.

What ICS ROM is best?

I'm looking to upgrade my dads phone. He has a custom GB ROM I already put on there months ago but since sprint finally rolling out ICS I was wondering what was best...cm9? F18 leak? He just wants ROM that is stable and has hacked hotspot.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Well if he want a stable rom with Hotspot hack i recommend getting Phantom Blazer 4.1 Rom. But if he wants ICS roms CM9 will do.
I'm running M'ICS v 1.1. stable, good battery life and has sprint hotspot.
Let's be honest here, there are probably a dozen of these threads out here and I am quite sure a few quite recently. You could get a million different answers since it all really depends on the user themselves. There is so much that goes into deciding whats best for you I never get asking others. I mean opinions are great but personal experience is the best.
If you are just going to do if for every day use then flash the stock FF18, throw a recovery on it and flash the hotspot hack in themes and apps voila! you're done!
Sorry was not trying to flame I understand what you are asking just don't think a dozen people giving you different answers helps you. All the roms in development are great but all come with a little kwirk here or there.

How about this one?
Touched by a SGSIII
I'm about 5 min away from installing it over my STOCK/ROOTED/Agat 1.1/ICS FE18
I'm looking for an ICS with great battery life and is very stable...any suggestions? I've been using StrongSteve's rock solid GB ROM, but I think it's time for me to finally make the leap to ICS.
Thanks.

Stability is one aspect, battery life is another. Best suggestion is to read through the threads of the roms that interest you and what style you like and test the battery life on it.
I personally like Wicked 1.5 and have 3 1/2 to 4 hrs on screen time. But that may not be the case for you. Based on what you run, how you run...
Browse away and give 'em a try but take head to flashing responsibly and read, read, read so you don't brick your phone.

Thanks. Yeah, I've been reading about bricking potential...it's one of the reasons I haven't updated yet.
I've tried to read through some threads of ROMs that people have said they liked, but with hundreds of pages in each (saying back to the ROM's release), it's difficult to take it all in...that's why I asked here (and tried not to start another new thread about it ;-))

I completely get it. It is alot to absorb.
There are 2 posts that I know of which are polling people about the roms in use but its all a matter of taste.
Besides the fact that some may be partial to a particular team, dev, etc.
Its just a hard question to answer.
Best solution is to try if you're willing. But there are safe kernals now and great people to give you advise if you get stuck.

let the pandas die, they dont deserve to live.
This question was asked probably more than 50 times, and my answer always have been Stock Jelly Bean. Why? Because it works and works well. Why do you want to switch to custom ROM that might have bugs and lose stability? Stock ROM performs really well and has probably the best battery life. Custom ROM is only good for more customization if you ask me.
With that being said, if you WANT to use custom ROM, try as many as you can and stick with one that you like the most. There is no best ROM. Only the ROM that fits you the most.
Hope that answered your question
 The hits just keep on comin!
if you have to ask what is the 'best rom' then you should stay stock because that shows your fear of any possible bugs or glitches. In which case rom development and beta testing is not for you, best you stay rooted stock or even just locked stock until you find there is something you need or really desire to have on your phone instead of 'rooting because its cool'.
Lollipops you are burning in flames!

All ROMs are the best! Someone in every thread will tell you that but NO ONE can tell you which is best for you.
You have to read the ROM thread and decide which one has features that suit YOUR needs

[Q] The best ROM/kernal??

hey yo folks, i just bought me new SG3-i747 and was wondering what is the BEST ROM/kernals? on my GS2-i777 SHOstock3 is what im running since that one is by far the best roms out....i would really appreciated your input, i dont want to ROOT my GS3 just yet until i found out everything about the ROM that i am going to use..
Thanks!!!
You need to head to the development sections and read some threads. They provide insight on the ROM, usually screen shots and FAQs.
As for the best ROM/Kernel, there is no right answer. We all use our devices differently and as such, have different feelings about what makes one ROM superior to another.
My advice would be to read up in development, download some ROMs and Kernels to test, and happy flashing!
There is no such thing as the best rom or kernel. You will need to just try some out to find out which one of each works best for you or your device.

As of today, what would be the best (in your opinion) daily driver ROM for the GS3?

I just received my S3 a few days ago and have just now been following threads to scope the scene. I am aware that I can create a backup and play around with the ROM's myself, and I will do that actually. Before I do this I would like YOUR opinion on the top ROM and why. What I (personally) look for in a ROM is: stability, good battery time, performance/benchmarks, features, look & feel and more. Thank you very much and have a happy new year!
tldr; What is the best (US) Galaxy S 3 ROM based on stability, battery time, performance, features and look/feel.
That's a tough question as everyone has personal opinions of different Roms and each device will also handle each ROM different in my opinion this will only turn into a this ROM is better than that ROM thread and that is not good

It is not to be a fighting thread, you simply state your opinion and why - that will be the end of it.

It depends on what you are looking for from a ROM.
If you want stable stay with stock TW
If you want latest and greatest chose AOSP/AOPK Rom.
Both are now on 4.2 which is much smoother and faster than TW.
No bloatware of course. Better battery life with custom kernels etc...
CM 10.1 is great
Tasks AOPK is better IMHO at the moment. CM is updated nightly which is a plus it minus... Task updates his ROM less frequently but it's a lot more stable at the moment...
Which ever ROM you choose if not stock READ entire OP make sure you follow it to the T and then read all posts as they tell you all about bugs and workarounds
Good luck

I always follow the instructions to a T, I want the best experience possible out of anything I flash ever. You mentioned better battery life with the Kernels, any experience with ktoonsez's or Task's kernel? Could you give me some estimate figures (example: 5 hours battery on stock, 8 on ktoonsez)
Running Illusion (CM based Rom) with the latest KT747 and no issues here, so I disagree with the guy above. I prefer stock android which is why I like roms like Task's AOKP and CM10.1 the most. It all comes down to preference.
Running Tasks AOKP 4.1.2. With lean kernel. Never crashes never any problems. Most stable custom ROM I've ever used. 4 hours screen on time, best battery I've ever gotten.
Just waiting for some updates on 4.2 then I will upgrade.

Thanks, orig dev I think was the only one I didn't click on.. Time is limited taking care of a 6month old..
This just ends up being a popularity thread.
I'm a huge AOKP/CM10 fan, but right now those ROM's don't have the one thing I need (USB-DAC) so I'm stuck with TouchWiz based ROM's.
I flashed Ultimatum ROM last week and have yet to have a single issue with it.
It's mostly stock with minor tweaks, so it SHOULD be a reliable ROM.
I then flashed a 23toggle mod with blue icons, so I at least have a good looking ROM also.
I find myself always restoring a debloated version of DG's m7 stock based rom with tasks kernel. I use rom toolbox as well to help tweak certain battery consuming apps. I usually lose 3-5% overnight on standby(7 hrs if I'm lucky and my kids let me). I think juice deffender helps me as well. Performance is pretty good but I'm a battery dork. The thread is probably back a couple pages now if you want to look at it. All of these dev's make great roms though. Try them all. Its called flashaholic and i'm a member.

I had the same question, but about the newer 4.2.1 roms. I want to upgrade, but i'm not sure which one will work best for me. Seems like Task and KTz joint is the most popular right now, but CM10 has been my daily. AS far as TW, I keep going back to Bacon Step with KTZ kernal becasue i use bluetooth alot and its my last TW backup. I want 4.2, but i need bluetooth to listen to my podcasts. What 4.2 rom has working bluetooth audio?

[Q] Out of the loop... NEED HELP!!

OK, I used to flash ROMs like it was my job about 1.5 years ago on my Galaxy Vibrant. When I got the SGS3, I decided that I was just going to root it and leave ONE ROM on it and leave it alone. I have been running AKOP Milestone-1 for the longest time.
Now it's time to flash something new and STABLE. I am looking for a ROM without any fuss and not a lot of bugs. AKOP Milestone-1 has bugs and I am finally tired of dealing them. Not have NFC has become annoying now that a lot of my friends have a NFC capable device.
As a community, what would you recommend for me to use as a ROM? What is the best kernel to use as well for this phone?
Thank you in advance....
This is a disguised best ROM thread. There are literally hundreds of threads just like this one. It's always an opinion. The only correct answer is: try them yourself, through your own trial and error, find the one that works for you.
If you don't want to update all the time, AOSP/AOKP is not for you. I will tell you that much.
The best, fully functional, most stable rooted ROM for any phone is a stock rooted unmodified ROM running the stock kernel. If you're looking for tweaks, add-ons, etc., you have to choose for yourself. Absolutely no user on here can advise you on that.

If you don't want to update often, then go with a touchwiz based rom. They work great, have nice mods, and are super stable.
I've used Wicked and Stockorama. Both great roms to me and have never let me down.
