Hello, I've read so many different threads about rooting/unlocking the Wildfire S that I am kind of confused if I can root mine or no.
The HBOOT screen reads:
MARVEL PVT SHIP S-O RL
HBOOT-0.90.0000 (I have read that many people have problems rooting with this version?)

Also have I read that people with my version have to "skip the RUU step and move to the 2nd step", what is the 2nd step? Where should I start from? I have really read a lot of threads but I'm kind of new to this and I dont want to mess my device up. Thanks everyone.
as i know u must have hboot-1.08.0099 to go trough the htcdev.com method. what is your android ver?

I've seen this too, but I don't know if its fair to say that all phones with HBOOT-0.09.0000 can't be rooted. Have you tried this yet?

That also updates my HBOOT? As much as I have read I have seen that updating the Android verison didn't help with the errors.
And I still would like to know what people mean when they talk about "skipping the 1st step (RUU) and move straight to 2nd" with my version?
If u update your android with RUU it can update anything ^^, i flashed my WFS to HTC EU 2.3.5 (as stock i got 0.90.0000 too, after flashing 1.08.0000), there's an tutorial how to do it with RUU.
About skipping, its to get rom_1 and rom_2 from Bootloader unlock Rom, to use it manualy, but i think its a bit dangerous to skip a some versions like from 0.90.0000 to just 1.08.0099. Also what brand your phone is? Orange. T-mobile. ?
I had 2.3.5 android on HBOOT 0.90.0000 (yea, HBOOT ver. didn't changed after new RUU,strange)
Just aplied the RUU from HTCdev.com (HTC EU 2.13.401.2), unlocked it through HTCdev manual, and then rooted using this TUT http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432074

Updating from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 will not update your HBOOT. That's what the process at HTC dev is for. Try that and if that doesn't work, use the link I posted above.

Very useful information. This answers the OP's two questions:
1. Does the 2.3.5 RUU update HBOOT? NO.
2. Can some phones with HBOOT 0.90.0000 be unlocked and rooted? Yes.
Until the OP tries to unlock his phone, I don't know what else we can do to help him.
Well my bad
You just need actuall Android version to match the BT UNLOCK RUU.
I installed the 2.3.5 update and tried running the unlocker from HTCdev, i choosed the right version 2.13.401.2 and it says ERROR 190 Rom is not up to date, when i just updated it?
And when i try that trick from SD card, it says Main Version is older, update fail!
HBOOT still shows as 0.90
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445497 here, we are fighting it together. just Check if version is OK
If I have a evo running 2.3.3 and my hboot is 2.18.0001,is there any way to downgrade or root my phone as it is? Or do I have to wait til revolutionary updates?
To downgrade your hboot, you would need full root, which you cannot fully root that hboot yet.

Not true. That HBOOT is unlockable with the HTCDev.com site, and NAND unlock is possible with the process outlined here.
However, if the OP is on that HBOOT, the OP should also be running Android 2.3.5, so I'm curious as to how that's not the case.

Are you sure? Can you post screenshots of your HBOOT screen, and your Software Information screen? The new OTA (that included the 2.18 HBOOT) upgraded the Android version to 2.3.5.
Do not downgrade your hboot. There is no reason to whatsoever unless you r trying to brick your phone.

go to settings/about phone/software info.
this should show you that you have 2.3.5 especially if you have hboot 2.18
and yes you can root hboot 2.18 by unlocking your bootlaoder then downgrading your hboot to 2.10 then root your phone with unrevoked. captain throwback has found a way to do this.

Its already rootable HTCDEV will unlock the bootloader then you can manage s-off from there, revolutionary does not work with 2.18 and its locked up pretty tight without using the HTCDEV method
Edit: and downgrading your bootloader is about a 99.99999999% chance of a brick as they screw with the partitions when they update hboot now so downgrading jams up the NAND partition and you get stuck in hboot only no recovery no fastboot no rom no phone just a nice paperweight/oddly shaped hockey puck

I think it's suppose to be 2.3.5/2.18 and 2.3.3/2.15 or 2.16? and how my "knoob" self knew was a method from this THREAD?
Unless I'm blind, and I very well could be the EVO 4G Sprint model is not on the list of supported phones at htcdev.com. if anyone has used the htcdev.com method with success I would love to hear about it because I'm in the same boat as the OP. Thx

The method works. You have to scroll down the menu of supported devices and click on "ALL OTHER SUPPORTED MODELS at the bottom of the "SELECT YOUR DEVICE" menu.
So I get to where I need to downgrade or flash the hboot and so I start my phone, phone boots in to bootloader and checks the sd sees the file loads the file checks it again then nothing nothing happens. Before you ask I have done all the steps before just trying to s-off the bootloader for well... idr why now but I will and need it off for something lol been doing this the past three hours repeated the step mult times samething everytime download the file mult times any ideas?
pesky lil s-off
ok ok i jsut got my phone back from sprint they put the phone back to solid workign order ive got amon ra flashed (RA-supersonic-v4.3-smelkusMOD)
And that flashed with trouble i had to flash the zip with fastboot.
and i THOUGHT that after that was flashed and in working order i could just flash SU and be done with it all but no... i cant for the life of me get s-off.

I had my bootloader screen looking exactly like that and I followed this guide and it worked great. Make sure you read up earlier in the guide and make sure you have the drivers it says installed. My phone would connect before I installed the drivers, but in order to do the things you need to with the phone, you have to install those drivers. After you have the bootloader unlocked via HTCdev (looks like you do), just start on setp 34, and you'll be good to go.

Hi All,
Is it just me, or does anybody else agree that someone somewhere should post a nice, easy to read RUU guide with screenshots that mean something.
I've always looked for a good guide with easy to use screenshots that ACTUALLY EXPLAINS the process of choosing the correct RUU, what you should look at and why.
Yes I know theres a couple of guides on it, but non of them explain how to pick the correct RUU for your device, and why that RUU is the right one.
Most of the time, I leave the RUU Guide threads knowing as little as I knew about RUU's to start with.
There is actually 1 rule to find the correct ruu.
Fastboot getvar version-main
That command tells the number of the ruu you need as a minimal number to start with. And in our case it has to start with endevouru because it's the codename for our hox.
So if your number is 3.14.401.31 you need a ruu that matches that exactly.
You can however flash different ruu's but it has to have a higher number. For example :
2.17.401 = main number, that number can go a step forward and flash the 3.14.401 ruu.
Obviously you can only downgrade with a ruu if you have s-off. So someone who is on 3.14.401 and a s-on device can not install the 2.17 ruu because it tries to downgrade the bootloader.
Hope this answers your question a little bit.
Cheers.

Don't think theres an RUU for my version then :/
Mr hofs?
I have a couple questions my self.
Correct me if I am wrong please.
1. RUU's Come in 2 forms and EXE and ZIP format
2. EXE will be a windows Executable RUU from HTC for a specific model and variant of a htc device.
3. Zip Format is for use in Fastboot to restore to stock for a specific model and variant of a htc device.
Furthermore I have these questions.
Are there Encrypted and Decrypted RUU's - If so What is the difference?
Will flashing a RUU regardless of Encrypted or Decrypted result in S-ON after it successfully completes?
Thanks,

I am asking for the HTC One Max(hom) forums. We are getting conflicting answers about S-ON after a Encrypted or decrypted RUU is run. We appear to have a decrypted version for Verizon in our forums.
We wanted to get some definitive answers for a help thread I started.
Ah, can't say this about another device. I only know these things count for the hox....
I'm having a bit of trouble. I currently have an unlocked bootloader and was wondering if I have to re-lock before I can run the 2.3 RUU and then revolutionary.

If you want to S-ON your device for warranty reasons (as long as you are S-OFF) you could flash an original RUU for your device (according to your CID) and then you can give the command fastboot oem writesecureflag 3.
** Before you try to flash the RUU you should better relock your bootloader (fastboot oem lock).
Before you S-ON your device you have to be completely sure you have the original hboot otherwise you could break your phone. If you have not warranty I can't see any reason to revert it to S-ON. **

About your first question if you downgrade your firmware by flashing a 2.3 gingerbread RUU you have to use a goldcard to be able to flash it.You should always relock your bootloader to flash an RUU.
Relock bootloader and run the 2.3gb ruu. U do NOT need a goldcard for that ruu, the 2.3gb update was ment for all if they wanted gingerbread so theres no cid check.
Thanks jmcclue, that worked flawlessly. I am now S-OFF.
What I wasn't sure about was if I had to make a gold card or not. I tried Revolutionary without success without re-locking first.

Always have to relock bootloader before ruu and a goldcard is only needed to bypass the CID (carrier id check) so lets say u r locked to vodafone and theres no vodafone ruu then u would need a goldcard so that u can use a wwe or europe ruu (unbranded)
Just so I'm clear on this for future reference, when you say "locked" is that a SIM lock or the actual phone is locked.
I did try to make a gold card, figuring that was my problem, and wasn't successful.
Are goldcards a thing of the past now?

Sim locked (carrier) so if lets say ur phone is locked to vodafone, u cant use any ruu apart from a vodafone ruu unless u make a goldcard which bypasses the carrier id check
Is it possible now to s-off this phone,(HTC DESIRE) or I can put it in garbage. I try every guide on xda, revolutionary has gone, alpha too, unrevoked did`n`t work, adb fastbot can`t help, cause S-On don`t allow to write anything in phone.I try htcdev.com but it can`t read token, just INFO ERR.
I have all drivers,adb,fastboot,htc...When conect my phone and PC,no err,all is ok.In Bootloader is usb plug too.
I instaled RUU 2.3 and after that is s-On pvt4 ship S-ON
So,can anybody help,other way,idea....anything?
