[Q] Can I root my Wildfire S? - HTC Wildfire S

Hello, I've read so many different threads about rooting/unlocking the Wildfire S that I am kind of confused if I can root mine or no.
The HBOOT screen reads:
MARVEL PVT SHIP S-O RL
HBOOT-0.90.0000 (I have read that many people have problems rooting with this version?)
MICROP-0451
RADIO-7.46.35.00
Apr 8 2011,17:45:10
Also have I read that people with my version have to "skip the RUU step and move to the 2nd step", what is the 2nd step? Where should I start from? I have really read a lot of threads but I'm kind of new to this and I dont want to mess my device up. Thanks everyone.

as i know u must have hboot-1.08.0099 to go trough the htcdev.com method. what is your android ver?

I've seen this too, but I don't know if its fair to say that all phones with HBOOT-0.09.0000 can't be rooted. Have you tried this yet?

That also updates my HBOOT? As much as I have read I have seen that updating the Android verison didn't help with the errors.
And I still would like to know what people mean when they talk about "skipping the 1st step (RUU) and move straight to 2nd" with my version?

If u update your android with RUU it can update anything ^^, i flashed my WFS to HTC EU 2.3.5 (as stock i got 0.90.0000 too, after flashing 1.08.0000), there's an tutorial how to do it with RUU.
About skipping, its to get rom_1 and rom_2 from Bootloader unlock Rom, to use it manualy, but i think its a bit dangerous to skip a some versions like from 0.90.0000 to just 1.08.0099. Also what brand your phone is? Orange. T-mobile. ?

I had 2.3.5 android on HBOOT 0.90.0000 (yea, HBOOT ver. didn't changed after new RUU,strange)
Just aplied the RUU from HTCdev.com (HTC EU 2.13.401.2), unlocked it through HTCdev manual, and then rooted using this TUT http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432074

Updating from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 will not update your HBOOT. That's what the process at HTC dev is for. Try that and if that doesn't work, use the link I posted above.

Very useful information. This answers the OP's two questions:
1. Does the 2.3.5 RUU update HBOOT? NO.
2. Can some phones with HBOOT 0.90.0000 be unlocked and rooted? Yes.
Until the OP tries to unlock his phone, I don't know what else we can do to help him.

Well my bad
You just need actuall Android version to match the BT UNLOCK RUU.

I installed the 2.3.5 update and tried running the unlocker from HTCdev, i choosed the right version 2.13.401.2 and it says ERROR 190 Rom is not up to date, when i just updated it?
And when i try that trick from SD card, it says Main Version is older, update fail!
HBOOT still shows as 0.90

[Q] Bootloader Unlock problem-ERROR[190]-ROM version is not the latest version

Hi, I am trying to Unlock Bootloader on my Wildfire S. But I have problem with updating HBOOT. I have downloaded from HTCdev pages HTC EU RUU file (which corresponds to my versions). But during update I get this error:
ERROR[190] ROM IS NOT UPDATED - Your ROM version is not the latest version. Please upgrade to 2.13.401.2 to apply this RUU to be able to unlock your bootloader.
But screen before shows me that I have correct version:
Verify that you want to update the ROM version from: 2.13.401.2 to 2.17.0.0
I have updated Android version to 2.3.5 by FOTA update. Maybe that can be the cause of my error.
I have also tried
- different versions of RRU file.
- apply full update to 2.3.5 (RUU_Marvel_S_HTC_Europe_2.13.401.2) - error[140] - bootloader version error
- manual update of HBOOT from SDcard (error message- Main version is older! Update fail!)
Do you have anybody some hint what else can I try please?

Hello,
I was about to start a new thread in which I was going to write exactly what you did. I have EXACTLY the same problem.
My phone has same versions:
Software number 2.13.401.2
Model #: PG7610000
Hboot 1.08.0000
radio 7.53.39.03m
I get the same error when trying to run the RUU [190] ROM is not updated and the same error "Main version is older! Update fail!" when trying the SD card method of updating the Hboot.
My question is: is your phone locked/branded? or is it carrier free?
Mine is Orange Romania and the only thing left for me to try is with a goldcard which I have to go buy in an hour and i shall try this method later on.
My phone is non-branded, carrier free.

I am not sure, but if you have Hboot version 1.08.0099, you don't need to run RUU. This version should be OK for unlocking bootloader.

Hi,
In your other thread you are saying:
"I'm sure your misc version is other, like mines... to be sure u should check."
How do I check its version? I'd really appreciate your help, I\m new to this and since it says "Warning: You could probably brick your phone if you flash an invalid misc partition" I want to be sure that if i try it, then i do the correct steps.
Well, u are safe until Flash_image using, u can easly go to step 6 Step 6 and 6b shows how to Edit/Check the Version, if its other, change it and flash it. If not Leave it alone. I will add aditional cleaning Commands if all is Fine.

Yeah, if he has one. IIRC goldcard was only an instrument in rooting branded phones? The error code would mention incorrect CID or something like that.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Goldcard didnt work, it says somthing like no image or wrong image after a bar on right hand side goes up....
also quick question is Reversing CID from CMD is just like 12a456 to 654a21 or is it something else, coz http://hexrev.soaa.me/ gives me some other result.
aka my CID from cmd is
1e41425553442xxxx0058003fd00a5f6 so reverse shuld be
6f5a00df3008500xxxx24435552414e1
and then replace first too with 00
but that site gives me 00a500fd038005xxxx2044535542411e
im a litttle confused :s

Not true. That HBOOT is unlockable with the HTCDev.com site, and NAND unlock is possible with the process outlined here.
However, if the OP is on that HBOOT, the OP should also be running Android 2.3.5, so I'm curious as to how that's not the case.

Are you sure? Can you post screenshots of your HBOOT screen, and your Software Information screen? The new OTA (that included the 2.18 HBOOT) upgraded the Android version to 2.3.5.
Do not downgrade your hboot. There is no reason to whatsoever unless you r trying to brick your phone.

this should show you that you have 2.3.5 especially if you have hboot 2.18
and yes you can root hboot 2.18 by unlocking your bootlaoder then downgrading your hboot to 2.10 then root your phone with unrevoked. captain throwback has found a way to do this.

Its already rootable HTCDEV will unlock the bootloader then you can manage s-off from there, revolutionary does not work with 2.18 and its locked up pretty tight without using the HTCDEV method
Edit: and downgrading your bootloader is about a 99.99999999% chance of a brick as they screw with the partitions when they update hboot now so downgrading jams up the NAND partition and you get stuck in hboot only no recovery no fastboot no rom no phone just a nice paperweight/oddly shaped hockey puck

I had my bootloader screen looking exactly like that and I followed this guide and it worked great. Make sure you read up earlier in the guide and make sure you have the drivers it says installed. My phone would connect before I installed the drivers, but in order to do the things you need to with the phone, you have to install those drivers. After you have the bootloader unlocked via HTCdev (looks like you do), just start on setp 34, and you'll be good to go.

Driving me wild (fire)

Hiya folks!
I unlocked my daughter Wildfire S hboot via HTC-Dev when it was first released and upgraded from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 EU to get rid of the 3 bloatware on the original rom, I did not root at the time as it was still in its very infant stage and did not wish to give my daughter my Rooted Desire through bricking hers!
Now the time has come to root as she is constantly telling me of a space shortage...I know we've all been there..so thinking the Hboot was still unlocked I ran through HTC super tool 3 , tried a couple of times with no success so realized there must be something I've missed, I checked the hboot was still unlocked in the pink text I believe it was to find that it no longer states unlocked, locked or any extra text just,

Did you tried this? I had problem with rooting my wfs, I can't find script i used right now. I'll update this post if i will find it.
What happened is that the 2.3.5 update changed your HBOOT from the previous one.......Go to htcdev.com start the unlock process and when prompted to download an RUU........ just download the RUU with the software more than the one you are having..... in your case the Europe RUU and just follow the instructions thereafter.....
Right got 'ERROR 190 ROM IS NOT SUPPORTED' please upgrade to 2.13.401.3 to apply this RUU, can I use a different RUU csoulr66 other than EU?
Wish I'd done this in one hit rather than in parts! Thanks in advance all!!!

A goldcard is used to debrand the CID. Without a goldcard, you cant install diags/downgrade/etc because the CID is branded with your carrier.
I had this problem originally, all you have to do is run a stock rom RUU (From the list supplied by football in the stickies) with a goldcard. Then go back to the HTC dev website and upgrade the hboot.

Hello. I have a problem. Namely I've tried to unblock my HTC Wildfire s but I still have to update my rom version which is already on my phone. The problem is that none of these versions available on htcdec are not compatible with the version that was already installed on my phone. Is there any way of updating? I Would be grateful if someone could explain me what should I use? I've seen many websites and I still can't fix my problem.
My phone data:
MARVEL PVT SHIP S-ON RL

you have android 2.3.3 strange.its very old.try to update your phone by OTA.then you will get new version which is 2.26 so you no need to update your rom version via htcdev (you can skip that part) and then unlocked bootloader easily and then root your phone.
for OTA. go to system settings>about phone>software updates and update your phone.

oh little confuse because htc released 2.3.5 update in 2011 i think after i bought my phone and also htc released one another update in 2012 for software.
so if you owned wildfire s,it should be updated. try to do factory reset and then might it ll update.give it a shot.
without update you can't root your phone because htc unlocked phones which have atleast firmware 2.13 (android 2.3.5).
good luck
I made factory reset, it helps, phone update it self to 2.3.5 and now i gave him a new life with CM .
Thanks for helping

you dont need to update your hboot.its already updated i guess.
check your software number in phone its like 2.26.401.3 okay.
when you go to htcdev you should skip that part because your phone has latest 2.26 update..that bootloader update part is only for who have 2.13 software version.
