[Q] ElementalX 1.6 works on Nexus 7? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hey guys, a bit of a newbie at all of this so please bare with me.
I'm looking at using the NExus 7 (2013) as the headunit on my car and to do this I would need OTG as well as Power at the same time through a USB hub.
Seems like the ElementalX1.6 allows this, but would it work on the new nexus 7?
Would I just have to root the device and install elemental on it for it to work?
your help is much appreciated.

yes, you need to root. check the Official Development Section, there is a thread on it. I believe 1.7 just included the feature you are asking for.

Since I'm not yet allowed to post weithin dev threads, could somebody post for me stating that keyboard wouldn't pop up in both aosp and Dolphin Browser after flashing elementalx 1.8 beta (see attached log for kernel details I opted for). Thanks in advance and sorry for posting in the 'wrong' thread..
Edit: I'm using Slimbean 4.3.1 rom (oct 13 weekly)

It's extremely unlikely that the kernel is responsible.
I'm running ElementalX 1.8 and Slim Bean GIT version (a bit newer than the Oct 13 weekly) and the keyboard works fine.

Well, went back to 1.6 for now and everything's golden. Didn't change anything option-wise, except for the battery life extension feature, obviously. Just thought it would be nice to let dev know, because I really appreciate his work..
Update: Reinstalled ElementalX 1.8 beta with power button to bypass dt2w enabled this time and keyboard is working in all browsers (including 'minimus' as secondary rom - didn't run multirom the first time I tried.) So everything's fine now, thanks.

No problems here with keyboard using AOSP browser, 1.8 ElementalX beta, Carbon ROM 1015 build. I do use swiftkey tablet keyboard though.

Nexus 7 (2013 wifi-flo) 4.4.2 + MultiROM v23 = No WiFi

Hi Guys,
First off, I have looked around for a solution before posting... I just can't find anyone with a similar problem as mine.
As I stated in the title>
Nexus 7 2013 wifi 16gb flo
Kitkat 4.4.2
I was and still plan to install Ubuntu touch - looks great! However, I didn't want to loose my KitKat, I need it for work. So I researched and found MultiROM which is just what I needed.
I followed this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...tmctr=(not provided)&__utmv=-&__utmk=34826402
And installed this app:
http://click.xda-developers.com/api...iROM v23 - xda-developers&txt=Install the app
I opened up the app, and it prompted me to install a modded kernel, so I did. I now have kernel version:
3.4.0-g20f5923
[email protected] #66
Wed Sep 25 22:02:11 CEST 2013
Problem is I can no longer turn on my wifi, everything else seems just fine.
Any tips?
Apologies if there is a post to address this and I couldn't find it...
Thanks...
Jared.
kernel
Looking around some more, I am convinced that it has to be the modded kernel causing my wifi issue.
Can anyone suggest a modded kernel that will work with MultiROM v23 and fix my wifi issue?
I tried flashing Francos Kernel last night, but it failed to install...
Any suggestions would be muchly appreciated...
Thanks...
You've installed kernel for 4.3 into 4.4.2 system. Latest update to the MultiROM Manager app (v1.106) should choose the correct version by default, it should be "Stock 4.4.1 and 4.4.2".
correct kernel

Thanks Tassadar for taking the time to get back to me, thing is I just let the app decide which kernel... I will try use odin to flash the correct kernel as TWRP will not allow me to flash it.
I'll let you know how it pans out...
Thanks again....
All good again!

LTE working?
So I searched through the CM 11, CM 10.2 and CM10.1 threads and am curious if LTE works on these ROMs?
Can anyone comment on if LTE works on the current snapshot/nightlies and if there are any LTE related issues? (I saw bluetooth support on 10.1/10.2 had some issues with diff firmware, does CM 11 suffer that as well?)
LTE
The LiquidSmooth ROM has LTE and bluetooth functionality; however there are some problems with video (Netflix, YouTube, etc.).
Upgrading from CM 10.1 to CM11 Clarification (New to this)
Thanks so much for your hard work on this project and others. I have a very stable running 10.1 setup that I just performed last week. I installed just as described and have TWRP 2.6.0.0 and the 2nd boot loader provided for that install. WORKS GREAT!
I wish to now go ahead though and upgrade again to the CM 11, and 4.4.2 etc.. I have read through both threads and still have a couple of questions... First- Do I need to JUST upgrade the TWRP to 2.7.*.*?, and if so what is the best way to do that ie. Run ADB commands again. Or, use something like FlashFly that I have seen used. Or, do I need to also load another new bootloader as well?. I assume if that is the case I would need to just run back through the whole ADB process again to just get to where I can Flash the latest CM release and Gapps.
Sorry if this seems like some basic information, but I am very new to this and am LOVING IT!... And your work Hashcode, as well as all of the other input from other users..
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated..
Thanks in advance!
Flash error
Still cannot quite figure this upgrade out. Seems I have lost ADB now.. When I use the
"fastboot -i 0x1949 flash bootloader kfhd8-u-boot-prod-8.1.4.bin" line I get Target reported max download size of 1006632960 bytes
error: cannot load 'kfhd8-twrp-2.7.0.0-recovery.img' : no error
Lost on this... ARRRRGGGG
---------- Post added at 07:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:35 PM ----------
s I stated earlier the 10.1 install and upgrade went off without a hitch.. Pretty sure I just need to upgrade from 2.6 to 2.7 and then flash the new CM11 package and GAAPS, but I cannot figure out how to upgrade. This is very frustrating indeed.
Oh.. Secret Cynogen Menu for ADB.. LOL
Oh my.. Feeling like the fool. I had not heard of or read about the Developers Menu in Cm til just now. Obviously I know now why ADB was not working... LOL.... Maybe I can get this CM 11 installed now..
GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ.
(Solved) Upgrading from CM 10.1 to CM11 Clarification Flash Issue
Ok, so that ONE little tidbit of information about how to activate "developers" menu in CyanogenMod was what was causing me to pull my hair out trying t figure out why I could no longer use ADB script and flash commands after I first installed CM10. That darn simple. That should be included for those of us that are new to doing this. Tap 4 times.....
Oh My... Well, maybe this 10 post limit will be up soon so I can actually start to engage and learn and assist.
Later

How do Iknow if its a JEM?

USB OTG Support
This build has been awesome for my KFHD. I bought it just because this was available.
My issue, though, right now, is that I can't get my OTG to work with a USB stick, or with a wireless keyboard/mouse. I have tried with both the ADB enabled and disabled, but no recognition of a device attached. I even double checked it against my Xperia Z3 just to be sure that it wasn't my cable. I have tried multiple apps as well with no luck. So, either, A) I am dumb (quite possible) and am doing something wrong, or B) the support isn't there yet.
I am running cm-11-20150309-NIGHTLY-jem.zip
If I am doing something wrong, please, let me know. Otherwise, are their plans to include it? If I were more linux literate, I would work on it myself, but I just haven't gotten to that level yet.
On a side note, is CM-12 in the works for Jem? Just curious.
Again, thank you so much for all your hard work, this is amazing.

And the GPS doesn't work.
Multi users
Is multi users supported on CM11? When I look under Settings > Device the "User" option is missing and as far as I know it should be supported in 4.4. Any way to get this feature working?
Present on mine.
That option is available on my 8.9 Jem. Running the March 30th nightly.

Which Nexus 7 do you have? grouper is the 1st gen (2012) Nexus 7. This forum section is for the Nexus 7 (2013)
Hello,
Sorry I have the first one, I thought 2013 WAS the first one. How can I move this thread? Maybe this is why I am not able to get any help fixing this problem.
Jason

I'd cough up the bucks. Don't forget, developers have to eat, have a place to sleep, and pay for electricity to run the hardware they're developing for.
ok so i got a copy of timur rom.
so what do i need to do. do i need to root first before installing?
I'm interested too, and have also heard about others using Timur's rom. But the site looked like it hadn't been updated in a while. What's the latest version, and does he keep it updated with each android release? Like is it using marshmallow? Also, what makes Timur's ROM better than any other? I'm using PureNexus on one and CM13 on another at the moment, and haven't done any setting up for car use yet.

He has just updated his kernel for marshmallow ...search timur v4
What type of setup do you have? Fixed or removable?
You can achieve most things without Timur's... Currently, I'm using stock rom with ElementalX Kernel and Xposed

Best Nougat rom for Nexus 7?

I am looking for a ROM that runs android nougat. I have a rooted device but have never installed a custom rom on it. Right now, it is just running 6.0.1 MOB30X, the latest update on stock. I want to upgrade to Nougat, but I don't really know what options are available. I want to keep my device close to stock android, like it already is. So, if someone could tell me what ROMs are available and which ones are the most popular and best?

If you want to keep close to the stock android the closest is the official lineageos build. All others have added features which may or maynot affect batterylife and performance.
LineageOS or AOSP will get you what you want.
crDroid 7.1.2 v3.3
Just fantastic! Add the elementalX kernal and buttersmoth experience!

In my experience no version superior to "Android 6" works well "out of the box" with full working applications of estreaming like youtube, netflix, etc .. and sometimes problems with root, my recommendation if it will be "Android 6" is still better Stock rom. Neither lineage nor much less AOSP and any derivative.
Newbies to all these updates and ROMs releases. I spent a good amount of time dumping various ROM.
I tried Lineages, Droid, Resurrection Remix. I think ASOP is Lineage?
All the ROMs above works well but I could not get gapp to going. Keep saying wizard error when starting up. Gapp is basically play store.
I tried that mini gapp bean and the open gapp 7.1 pico. They both fail during start up. It was trying to run the google apps wizard and keeps failing.
I ended up with Nitrogen-OS-flo-20170316 ROM. Let this ROM flash first than, reboot, go back in recovery mode and flash the Gapp 7.1 pico. This was the only way I can avoid the wizard failing during startup. Everything works except Latest netflix app failing. Get the apk from mirror apk and make sure you get the older apk version 4.2. Don't get the newest 5.x netflix release.
Resurrection Remix ROM looks cool. It's suppose to be faster than Linage.
Since everything is work for me with Nitrogen. I'll stick with nexus 6 Nitrogen for now.
or until someone prove me wrong. Or know why I am having all sort of issue installing Gapp pico on Resurrection Remix, Linage, or that Droid version.

I am not sure if Android 6 or marsh mellow is the best. After I flash with Nougot. It's a lot faster. Loving it.

This depends on the rom or kernel as much as whether it is Nougat. LineageOS supports exfat and has clear instructions on how to install it.
