So, I have a Nexus 7 LTE with an AT&T Sim and I'm able to receive texts on the mobile number assigned to that sim. Unfortunately this is confusing some that think they can also call that number which leaves them waiting for an answer that never comes.
Does anyone know how to trigger the call forwarding to my Google Voice number (usually through **021*1234567890#) without having a dialer? If I root it and put in the stock dialer (or enable it? I heard it may be there but disabled) will I be able to dial the forwarding codes? I know I can't make calls with the dialer, but I don't know if that necessarily means the codes wouldn't work either.

Update/Correction.
The number only rings for some callers (VoIP callers?). For most people calling my data only number it just tells them that I'm not accepting calls at this time... which is a little better... maybe.
I imagine some people are going to think that means I've blocked them or whatever. Of well. I'll just have to re-educate people to use my Google Voice number as they bring it up.

I'm setting up Google Voice and saw that there is a fixed dial number (FDN) setting.
My questions are :
1) Will this option make it so GV's access number is the same on every call?
2) it asks for a PIN2 number. I tried 1234 and 0000 and neither worked. Tmo is stumped. I did not set a number. Does anyone know another possible default code?
Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
FDN restricts outgoing calls to only the numbers on a pre determined list. See en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fixed_Dialing_Number for more information.
This will not affect google voice, since when you make a google voice call it is an incoming, not an outgoing call from your phone. If I remember correctly, there is a setting on the google voice page to control how your calls appear on caller id (random number or GV number)
If you want to use FDN, the default PIN2 is 5678, keep in mind that t-mobile does not support the use of this feature, so if you lock yourself out they may not be able to help you.

Thanks for the reply. Is there anyway to have GV use a fixed access number. I use the myfaves paln to get free unlimited incoming/outoging calls. But when gv changes acess numbers and I don't catch it fast enough, I get charged.
As far as I am aware (from my knowledge of using google voice and from searching) there is not a way to prevent the access numbers from changing.
If you want to use one number for all your calls, you can start by calling your own GV number and selecting option 2 (place a call) from the main menu.

I'm just now getting into using Google voice as it seems to be an awesome way for me to call my customers and keep them from having my real number and calling me at crazy times..
So here's my question.Sprint has unlimited mobile to mobile.While using Google voice does it go against my minutes?...For example,if I were to use my regular number to call my fiancée cell phone it would be free.Would it still be free if I used GV to my fiancée cell phone?
I really don't want to go overboard with using this thigh if its going to count towards my minutes.Thanks for any help you can give me.

I believe it still uses your minutes, ie cell phone will be free, land lines will cost against anytime minutes.

Here's what I can tell you from my own observations, but I could be wrong:
Google Voice numbers, both actual account numbers (ie, your GV number), and the access numbers (the numbers you call and/or are called by when you make a call via GV or someone calls your GV number, respectively), are all considered landlines.
Now, you can set up your GV settings on the website, so when someone calls you, it will either show their number, or your GV number. If you have it set to the former (show their number), and they call you from a cellphone, it will count as a call from a cellphone.
If you were to set it so the caller ID shows your GV# when someone calls you, it would count as a landline call, and therefore, against your minutes. When you call someone, what really happens is that GV calls your phone from one of their access numbers, and then connects that call to your destination. Because of that, it's counted as an incoming call from a landline, and thus does count against your minutes.
Finally, if you call someone or are called by someone who has their GV settings so that it shows their GV# on the recepient's caller ID, then it will count against the recipient as a landline call, not a cellphone call.
I hope someone corrects me if I am mistaken.
Google Voice works perfect on AT&T. I have an Android on AT&T and added my GV number to my A-List (kind of like a fave 5) so when I use GV it counts as an unlimited call.

My Girlfriend wants to cancel her voice plan and use google voice to make free calls with her gv number, is this possible for free? or will she get charged by her company because google voice is wasting minutes. or if the calls are being made over the 3g/wifi

Google voice isn't voip... you actually need service for it to dial out...
Call Sprint tell customer care you want "phone to home" for $5 give the rep your Google vice number. Now you can make and receive unlimited calls to that number but you have to have the setting in Google voice show your GV number on caller ID. Post any questions I will check back to this thread.

I am using a stock GSM GNex, unrooted, and I noticed, when I receive calls, the caller does not go to voicemail and when I attempt to check voicemail, I am told that I do not have a voicemail box. This is a new problem, because before, I had voicemail and I set it up using AT&T. When I long press the number "1" on the dial pad I get a recording that says to enter the phone number of the party you are trying to reach. I enter my phone number and it says that the number is not listed. I can receive and make calls to anyone no problem, but voicemail all of a sudden stopped working. I went into the phone settings and checked the phone number listed as my voicemail number, it is not the same as my regular phone number, so I changed it to my number and I was getting a busy signal when I tried to check my voicemail after that. Any ideas??? I don't think calling AT&T will do me any good as they think I am using a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket. Please help, I need to get voicemails if I don't get to the phone in time!!

I'm not sure how to fix your problem but, have you tried google voice as your voicemail client? Maybe you can use that instead.
To be honest I want to fix the issue and I don't want to use Google Voice. When I did a search before posting this I read a lot of people were using that service, but I want to get the real problem fixed. Thanks though.
Does anyone think the problem could be because I have a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket as my main phone on my plan, and that phone uses visual voicemail? And somehow now the phone won't activate voicemail because of that? When I dial my number and call myself, I get a busy tone.
1) Your VM number is either incorrectly programmed into the phone, or whoever set up your account didn't provision you with the VM feature. Call your carrier, they can verify with you whether your phone is correct or it's their system. No one on XDA can't help you with a shortcut.
2) Get Google Voice. Carrier VM systems are utter crap by comparison. That is the "real" solution to your "real problem".
The voicemail number is the same as it was when I set it up the first time. BTW, using Google Voice is not the "real" solution to my "real problem". If you don't know the answer to the question or you think no one else here will, you don't have to emphasize your love of Google Voice, I just don't want to use it so I am trying to figure out how to fix it. Thank you.
Oh, and maybe you should change your user name if you hate AT&T so much.
Is it possible to get Google Voice setup to handle voicemail? I've spent a while playing around and searching, but can't seem to get this working. I am on the Verizon version, but not sure if that makes a difference.
I can receive calls from someone dialing my GV number, and if they have called that number and leave a voicemail, they get my GV greeting and I get the vm/notification in the Hangouts app, as I expect. However, if someone calls my carrier number and leaves a vm, I cannot get this to go to my GV at all.
I don't remember having to do much of anything to get this set up on my LG G4. Am I missing something easy here?

I haven't had to do this for quite a while, but this is what I used to do to get Google Voice working on my Verizon phone.
If you are having trouble configuring Google Voice as your voicemail service on Verizon you can
make the switch manually by dialing all three of these activation codes:
*71[Your Google Voice number] This turns on Conditional Forwarding, which should transfer
calls to your Google Voice number*when your Verizon phone is busy or unanswered after 3 to 6
rings.
*90[Your Google Voice number] This turns on Busy Transfer, which transfers all calls that
would hear a busy signal to your Google Voice number.
*92[Your Google Voice number] This turns on No Answer Transfer, which transfers all calls
unanswered after 3 to 6 rings to your Google Voice number.
To Deactivate the Call Forwarding, dial *73 [Send]
To Deactivate the Busy Transfer, dial *900 [Send]
To Deactivate the No Answer Transfer, dial *902 [Send]
**** if calls not ringing to phone, uninstall Google voice, Deactivate all, install and setup Google
voice, setup
forwarding again, test calling phone to make sure it rings and Google voicemail works. ***

*71+GV number did the trick.
I first set all 3 forwardings, and things acted weird. It would forward out to my GV greeting but then cut out part way through. I disabled all and then only enabled using the *71+GV and things are working correctly.
I did a search on the forums and didn't find any relevant threads, so I'm creating this one.
I have my Google Voice app set to show a prompt asking which number I want to use before each call. However, I've noticed that on occasion the call will go through using my carrier line before I even make a selection on the prompt. I tested this further and set Google Voice to always use Google Voice line to make calls, then I made calls to another number I have access to. After several test calls, I found that about half the time, the call still goes through my carrier line. There wasn't any indication on my phone that it was using the carrier line or Google Voice line.
If I use the Google Voice app to make a call, it will always use my Google Voice line, even though it's going through the phone's stock dialer app.
I'm wondering if anyone else has similar issues and what solutions there might be to fix this. I wanted to replace the stock dialer with Google's dialer app and Google Contact app, but it seems that Google's dialer app is not compatible with the Mate SE/7x.
Can anyone think of a solution? I think that by somehow making the stock dialer delay for 2-3 seconds before each call, it would give enough time for Google Voice prompt to show up and freeze the dialer until I make a choice. I'm not sure how to do this, though.
Alternatively, are there any good dialers to replace the stock one?
I am having a similar issue on my Honor 7X and my wife's 6X. GV has been working great for months on both phones. Now (I think we noticed it in late April) when someone calls our Primary Phone # it doesn't get routed to GV Voice Mail, it goes to the Carrier's VM. For my wife, when someone calls her GV # it doesn't ring on her phone and is routed to her carrier VM. When she sets removes her "Linked Number" then calls to her GV # are routed to GVM but do not ring on her phone.
I have tried installing an older version of GV, no luck, and I have since been updated to EMUI 8 (Android 8.0) and I still have the same problem. I'm wondering if it's a carrier issue/change? We use Consumer Cellular (ATT network). When I go into Call Forwarding in Call Options it will not let me set a Call Forwarding number and tells me "Unexpected Network Response."
Hopefully someone will fix this soon. My wife uses her GV# for work.
