So i got my note 3 Oct 2nd did the normal battery conditioning bought my wife one on saturday. Started seeing a huge difference in the two phones far as performance and battery life i would lose 20% overnight just sitting on the dresser. So i downloaded cpu spy found out my phone would not sleep at all but my wife phone was in deep sleep alot. So i had it replaced Oct 9th battery is excellent on this phone, just want to know is this isolated or anyone else have a defective note 3
Any tips on returning the Device? The manager at my store told me I only get one exchange Which I already used because the first had a defective screen but it was perfect all around beside that. The new one, the screen is good but I hate the battery on this one. Also to top it off, I have the weird buzzing/crackling noise when listening to music.
I'm having issues with two of them. Finally got my pre-order shipped to me Tuesday. Turned it on and it keeps restating when I go to install random apps off of the play store.
So I called up t-mobile and they sent a replacement that I got last night. We'll long story short it does the same freaking thing. So I upgraded my sim card and that didn't fix it either.

It is the consistency of the these phones ( not just samsung ) that makes me hesitant to go replace phones as the next may have different characteristics than the first LOL
i was told that i can only exchange once after that it has to be a return battery life was horrible compared to mt note 2 it would stay at 300mhz even when not using the phone
i would go in system recovery and wipe dalvik/cache to resolve issue
Was that for me, I haven't rooted the phone yet?

I returned mine 2 days in due to the headphones constantly cutting out the music. Had to turn the music full blast just to hear it at a 1/4 of the volume. Then the next song plays and BAM music so loud it hurts the ears. Had the Tmobile store test it for an hour to reproduce the issue. Once he heard what I was dealing with i was able to get a replacement right away.
Since then I have had no issues other then this morning putting on the glass screen protector. Stupid fine hairs and dust. ARG...
Loving this phone even more now. Just wish it had a louder volume like the note 2 while wearing headphones.

Seriously?!? Not long after you mentioned your volume problem I started to experience this. It happens in google music player. I will try other music player to test.
Edit: I tested several music players. They were not affected at the time. So then I switched back to Play Music, it was still happening. I then unplugged the headphones and the problem now cease to exist. Now music is waay louder than normal.

I was having this issues on all forms of output. Youtube, Netflix (had to crank to full blast to hear), Regular player and ESPECIALLY Google. I get about 5-8 hours a day streaming google. I would constantly have to mess with the volume and pull out the phone. Made me upset. LOL
I was unable to get the volume waay louder like you are saying unless i put it full blast. This is with 3 different headphones BTW. Samsung stock, Cheap ones at Target and then Sony MDR-XB600. I know the Sony's are not getting the full potential but they sounded great with the Note 2!
I currently purchased some Monster Gratitude In-Ear Headphones to maybe help. I dont know but the reviews sound good.

While you were listing you unplugged then plugged back in and things seemed louder? I dont think i have tried that but have switched up headphones like crazy.
Returned my original Oct 2 phone for a new one today due to multiple problems. First, after conditioning the battery, as stated by a previous person, my phone began to reboot on its own. Second, many of apps while being used would close on its own, not to be confused with "force closing" with the error message, but just exits and disappears from the task manager. Third, while browsing apps like Tapatalk and Google Chrome, the phone got insanely hot. I had system turner pro's widget on my home screen reporting a CPU temp of 92*C before black screening. Forth, the wifi/4g radio was acting weird. While standing right next to my AC router, i would get an error message on some apps saying "no internet connection" but others ran fine like Facebook, Twitter, etc. Honestly though, as said by others these types of problems are all "hit or miss" because the new replacement I got today is completely fine. I'm beginning to think that its a bad batch in the original first shipment.
I'm using the replacement phone today and just took out my SD card and I had no more issues installing apps off of the playstore. Going to try this out on the first one when I get back home to confirm and I'll check back in.

Yep. Exceptionally louder at that. I was thinking of rooting so I can apply the sound mod. No need for that now! :cyclops: But I'm going to hold out a couple more days to see if these issues continue to happen and see if I can live with them before I call TMO because I really don't want to take off this $30 screen protector again. I don't know if it would survive another installation.

That's usually the case with phone releases and pre-orders. The people who get them first are also the people who are more likely to receive bugs/defects. Likely any phones after the pre-orders and first store arrivals will have these issues fixed. Some of these listed problems may or may not be hardware defects, sometimes software code can mess with things.

Most likely something that you have installed on your phone isnt liking ICS. Hard to narrow down if you have alot of apps installed.
I have had mine for 6 days now and not had a single Sleep of Death and I havent seen too many comments about it so I dont think its a problem with ICS directly.
Mark.

Well its still worth noting. SetCPU never did this on my DHD
I had exactly the same thing last night, I even made my own thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360847&page=2
I even wrote a simple app for logging the battery temperature and time, so I'll leave it on next night and I'll see what happens. Because I'm pretty sure my phone switched off due to overheating, as it was really, really hot in the morning, after I switched it on the battery was at 46C.
I'm afraid I can confirm that I have experienced the same "sleep of death" problem twice now. I can't remember what I was doing the first time, but the second time I was only browsing and I know I didn't have any apps installed because I had previously reset my phone. I've only had the phone for two days now and if it does it again I might have to send it back.
I expected a glitch or two, but with the volume bug and other annoying things like the lack of flash and poor camera quality, I'm beginning to regret my purchase. Although I love the ice cream sandwich experience, I'm now thinking of getting the Galaxy Note instead, and waiting for ICS to arrive on that next year. At least then I will be able to watch iPlayer in the meantime.
Mines done it about 4 times. Pre installed Movie maker seems to induce it.

Had a sleep of death for the first time yesterday - the only "different" thing I did during the day was use spotify so there maybe something in that!
Same again last night, woke up this morning and phone was on but wouldn't wake. Notification light was on solid. Was plugged in at wall all night, didn't seem too warm when I held it.
Time to start debugging I guess
I've had this issue twice too.
I do not have spotify installed, and the phone was NOT hot at all. Not even warm!
I was just in gmail, sent a mail, then pressed the home button, and black.... gone.
Had to pull battery.
Thinking of having phone replaced by Handtec. I know this is probably a software glitch, but the volume bug, and the fact my unit was one that handtec had "tested" etc, I might just ask for a brand new one from the new flashed batch due next week.
Wtf! Just how wide spread is this??? Seems like too many people are having this issue.
Phone hasn't even arrived yet and I'm already starting to question my purchase.
1 more bug and im cancelling my order !
Well, it's the first device with ICS so I expect there will be a few bugs in the future which will need to be fixed. That's the reason why I'll go for the Nexus ... it's a nice piece of hardware but even more important is that it will be the device which gets the fixes first.
Did anyone check to see if you've had an OTA for the volume ghost fix and this problem has spawned instead? Seems like a fairly new problem if you have followed the forum.

As of now I'm on my 4th Gnexus and once again I'm being plagued with the same issue I have since my first one back on launch day. Loss of voice during a call, high pitch noises, (think scratching on a chalk board) loss of sound on all key press as well as numbers when dialing.
I have called about this issue. First time around Verizon said take it back get a new one. So I did that and so on happened 2 more times same issue same results. Now on my 4th one its starting again. So verizon said it was Samsung and Samsung said Verizon.
So I was hoping for some input on what direction I should go now.

This is an obvious case of user-error. The odds of getting a defunct phone that many times in a row is about like winning the lottery, literally.

when you said high pitch noises, do you mean that during a call you can hear a buzzing sort of noise when people speak? I get that on my nexus too, it's slightly irritating but I'll live with it, better than spending time to unroot it, go back to stock and then waste a whole week in the service centre.

It's obviously not user error.. If you read a bit you'd see there is a very lengthy thread about this very issue.. It's called microphone cutting out during call or something like that.. You can replace your phone as much as you want, it's not going to change it. the cause is unknown but I believe they have at least determined it not to be hardware..

That is correct. Audio outbound gets garbled and then lost completely. This is the worst bug of this phone. I can't count how many phone calls where I'd have to hang up and redial because the other person couldn't hear me anymore.

I'd blame the carrier, as i'm on Orange UK, and I use T-Mobile UK as well, and call quality both ends, is excellent
Your wife may not have the issue but are y'all talking on the same tower when the issue arises? I'm on Verizon as well and never had this problem. That said, I don't talk a lot, maybe 400 minutes a month - mostly to my boss that has an iPhone so half the time I can't hear crap anyway due to that fact.
I will say, as a recent T-Mobile transplant that has used Verizon off and on for several years with work phones, Verizon doesn't seem to have the same call quality in general terms. Maybe it's just my ear, but even back in the day I owned some Motorola claim shells that sounded pretty muddy.
Have you tried to replicate the problem on a completely stock phone with no 3rd party apps? I wonder if there's a conflict somewhere.

I pretty much tried everything. New sim cards, using it with nothing installed (stock) I'm super bummed I been waiting on a nexus device to hit Verizon for a while now. I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to put up with this.
What about rolling back onto 3G? Are you on the fringe of LTE connectivity at all?
I know a lot of people talk about call quality. Frankly, I haven't experienced any issues and no one has told me that it sounds like crap (and believe me, I have friends that would mention it, we're a HARSH bunch). I don't doubt they exist, and you certainly don't sound like 3/4ths of XDA that are overly dramatic whiners. Out of curiosity, roughly how many minutes a month do you talk? Any chance that it's just an issue where, well you know, the more you do something the more opportunity to experience something that goes wrong? I used to talk a ton for work, like 3000+ minutes a month. I had a lot more dropped calls then than now, know what I mean?
You know what I'd do, which Verizon would HATE but, hey, you are the customer. I'd take you and your wife's phone into Verizon, and have them flip the numbers around. Keep EVERYTHING else about the phones the same. Her apps stay, your apps stay, just swap the numbers around and try her phone with your regular use for maybe 3 or 4 days. If you can replicate the problem while she doesn't experience the issue at all on your phone, then you can probably narrow it down to either the tower your on, or maybe the phone really is just buggy after you've been on it for a while.
Every so often I'll have a long conversation and a call gets dropped, but I've never not been able to hear someone or them not be able to hear me. Like, they're the typical issues that you could assign to either being a tower pass off problem or the nature of LTE long before the phone (on either my end or the other person's end). But, like I said, that's a rare occurrence for me.
What version of ICS are you running? I had this same problem, specifically and most frequently the one where the audio cuts out of a call, sometimes it'd do it and force me to re-call my girlfriend as many as 3 or 4 times in an hour.
What fixed it was flashing ICS 4.0.4 released from Google themselves (if I waited for Verizon to do it I'd probably be single by now). This fixed it for me immediately right out of the gate. I've had the other issues you spoke of every so often but the audio cut out was constant. This fixed everything. Been running for a while without problems (month or so maybe?).
Eh...you didn't flash it straight from Google. At best, you flashed it straight from the Verizon/Google ota server the test ota is on

Did not fix the microphone going out issue for me :-( I just flashed the 4.0.4 leak on Tuesday hoping it would alleviate this problem, but I had the mic go out about 15 mins into a call last night. Same story as with stock, had to hang up and re-dial to continue the conversation.
So here is the deal. About a month ago my speaker stopped working on my gnex. I searched all over Google and found a headphone jack issue so I tried it but realized that was not the issue. I have flashed a few ROMs in between and haven't had any luck (thought maybe a ROM was causing the problem but no). Last night I loaded up a game on the phone and BAM, sound again (phone ringer and notifications). I was so excited. This morning I used ROM toolbox to batch install 3 apps and data (Apex, Apex unlocker and autorap), and then to my disappointment, no more sound. I uninstalled the 3 apps and rebooted the phone but no use. Now that I have given a round about idea of the issue, my question is "does anyone know or think this may be a software issue and can I go into root explorer and do something?" I have geek squad warranty but my laptop is broke and I can't unroot the phone to bring back to get fixed yet. Just thought I would ask before I fully give up and just deal until I can warranty it out.
1.) Was your volume always loud?
2.) Did at anytime it get near water, drenched in sweat?
Just sounds like the speaker blew honestly

I have an issue: I've noticed that there is the odd popping sound on every video I take. It isn't a constant pop-pop-pop, but just every so often at random. But it is present on every video I've taken so far.
Wondering if anyone else has the same issue? Any suggestions?
I am running stock with the Perseus kernel.
Thanks!
I had this happen once. I thought the wind was blowing on the mic.
Do you happen to have a case on your phone? There might be something that taps the case and might be picked up by the speaker as a pop.
Rings, long nails, keys, I don't know the list could go on.

Yes, I do have a soft-shell case. I thought it might be that too, but I took it off and did some test filming and got the same result. This is really starting to tick me off now; I've had the phone for 5 or 6 weeks now and have only noticed this. What a pain!
I have also done voice recording using a voice recorder app, and no problems with that.
I tried a different camera app and the videos still have the popping.
No other suggestions?
Ok, just linking a video so you can hear what I'm talking about, in case it triggers something in someone's brain....
Again, this has happened on stock, as well as CleanRom. Different camera apps used. I've tried with data off. I've tried with SD card out. I've lowered system volume to zero. I've removed the case. There is no such issue when speaking on the phone, nor is it present when using a voice recorder app.
Everything else about the phone is perfect, but I'm ready to smash it to bits over this, I'm so pissed off. :silly:

To narrow down a software VS hardware issue, the first thing you'll want to do is restore to stock. No root, no kernel, no nuffin. If the issue persists, that is usually a purdy good indicator of a hardware issue. Should that be the case, a warranty replacement may be your best option. If the issue persists after a replacement, I'd say its a good bet its something in your environment/situation that is causing the popping.

Thanks for that. Yes, at this point I've tried everything I can think of. I don't believe it has anything to do with environment or anything, as it happens all the time. It has been driving me batty for the last week; I've done nothing but obsess over it. I hadn't noticed it before, but once I had, I started looking at every video I've taken since I bought it and found that it has been going on the whole time. I got the phone at the end of January. One of the first vids I took was a cpl of days later, which I put on youtube. I checked that vid out and sure enough the issue is there.
I called Samsung yesterday and got a UPS shipping label from them to send it in. I'm not keen on having to do all the work to unroot and make like I never rooted it, lose it for up to 3 weeks, and (if they send a replacement back), lose the $30 I spent on my Zagg screen protector.
I guess I will try what you've said; restore to pure stock and pray to God. Thanks!
I've installed CM10 and the camera with it is flawless. Why do you think that is?
Sorry for bumping this up, but I've done all kinds of experimenting and have pretty much determined that it is solely a TW based issue.
But what I'd like to ask now is: using Snap Camera, I get the same result (popping noise). However, Snap Camera has a setting for "Use Alternate Mic", which, when I choose that, there is no popping. So the question is: does anyone know how I can make the stock camcorder use the 'alternate mic' like Snap Camera does?
I have no idea where that would be edited.
Please! Thanks!

Does the camera record stereo sound with cm10 too?
Hi guys.
I own a G3 32GB International/Unlocked from about a week or so. At first I ran the 4.4.2 stock firmware, until two days ago I was prompted to install the v20e lolipop update, stock too. At first it seemed a bit laggy, especially in the home screen. Yesterday I performed a factory reset, and so far, with half of the apps I used to have, it seems to be working a bit better, hopefully. [That's a brief intro just in case, lol]
So, onto the matter. A couple of hours ago I noticed some static noise coming from the back of my phone, mainly around the power/volume buttons. I hear it when I bring the phone close to my ear, otherwise I don't. When the screen is off, it's either way too quiet, gone at all, or there's a slight repetative clicking sound(maybe from the camera but I kind of doubt that). But my main concerns are when the screen is on - that's when the noise is louder and constant(still have to bring my phone to the ear to hear it, though). Furthermore, whenever I do something on the screen - i.e. sliding, opening an app, etc. - I start hearing this "working mechanism" sound(I couldn't think of a better way to describe it atm), until I stop doing anything - then it just resumes to the constant static noise. My question is - is this harmful to the device? If so, what do I do? Should I worry about this? Has anyone else experienced this "working mechanism" sound when using the phone? What have they done to fix it, if they have?
P.S. - The last thing I remember doing before I noticed the noises is copying most of my old photos and music from my PC to the internal storage. Around 1-2 gigs.
P.P.S. - The sound sliiiiightly resembles a hard drive I think.

Hardrive-type squeal/whir from back of G3
I'm having the same issues!
I have a very sensitive ear so my LG G3 is giving me a headache at the moment.
My phone is brand new--it has been out of the box for a few days, got a full charge, was activated/powered on Dec. 24th at around 11:30pm. So it's been in use less than 2 days. I have hardly any software/apps aside from stock installed at the moment.
I did install two apps this morning before the noise started, so they might be the main cause.
The sound is very much like a tiny hard drive, so I'm thinking maybe one or both of the new apps are running in the background and beating up the poor phone. Just not sure if this is normal for the G3 or not?
Right now I'm having trouble putting up with the sound while typing so I hope there is a way to quiet it down
Hope this helps. I owned my g3 for a few months now. When i first got it. Ive heard the noise. It dosent bother me tho. But that sounds like the cpu going. Then again coud be the ssd. So far i have not had any issues with the phone

Nope. All's running good so far, God bless. Guess the noise is just the processor working or something like that, it's still here.

Highly unlikely it's the processor.
What it could be is a loose capacitor. If it became unsoldered or if it lost some of the soldering, it can vibrate under stress and create noise. See with other G3 phones, if you don't hear it on others - send yours in for warranty repairs.

been meaning to update this. my g3 died lol but it was not the cpu. some reason my antenna went bad. phone still worked with wifi. i got a new g3 via worrenty replacement new phone has the noise.
as for your answer yes the phone was working fine. as for the antenna went bad i think i know what caused it. just keep your phone away from strong magnets. my laptop has a few of those cause itwas working an hour ago when i tried to use it
