Hi all,
a couple of months ago i flashed my E4GT to Page Plus. I didnt use any online guide to do the flash. i used a program called CDMA Flasher. the ONLY issue i have had is that for some reason, if i get a long text message (<160 characters) from anyone the entire text message is corrupt, and splits into several parts(ie <160 characters gives me 2 msgs, <320 characters gets me 3 msgs and so on and so forth).
has ANYONE else come across this bug. if so do you know how to fix it?
What exactly do you mean by corrupt? Android default splits sms after 160 characters, so it's not a bug.

and yes i know that android default splits at 160. i know that the split is not the bug. its the corrupt text.
EDIT: for some reason unbeknown to me i decided to send myself a long text msg.....and it came out just fine. now i BELIEVE that every one who has ever sent me long text messages are either pageplus, or verizon customers. could this be a setting in my phone that didnt get set up right during the flash?

This might be unrelated...but.
I rooted my mothers huaweii ascend 2 and put a little better ROM on it...after this , when she would send a text over 160 characters it would look just like you're post , when received. So I went in to the messaging settings and saw that the option to split the text after 160 was not checked. So I checked it and the problem went away...
Maybe this will work for you.
I think there's an Xposed Framework module to override the Splitting
I've seen the same problem, mostly from ios users. That bug also happens when the person sends special characters like @ $ & »« ñ ¿ etc.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
well being as im on a stock rom i dont think it has anything to do with which rom you are running. is it possible that the mms settings are wrong?
This is caused by the lack of Unicode support on this phone. Sprint must translate it as it passes through teir system, but now that your phone is flashed to Page Plus (Verizon) messages received with more than 160 characters blow up.

If you send multiple messages in a short time (It happened when I sent four real quick to my own number after texting two people for about an hour), there is a system notification that pops up and says "Messaging is sending a large number of SMS messages. Do you want to allow this app to continue sending messages?" along with an Allow or Deny option. I haven't tried to deny, but is anyone able to replicate this?
It is not a bug.
Its a security feature to stop malware sending expensive texts from your phone.

mine is doing the same.. how can we turn it off?

Hopefully this is a bug.
Otherwise... Damnnnn this update is amazing!
guys this is not a bug but hopefully a feature to stop drunk texting
but drunk texting is fun!
Its a feature to stop apps from sending tons of SMS in the background without your knowledge.
It's better than a malware sending thousand of texts using your phone.
i would think.. if the messaging app IS OPEN AND UP.. then.. its not malware.. just saying

Uhmmm that's data usage, and there is a feature so you don't use too much in 4.x+.
This wasn't just in JB btw, also in GB if I remember. Use an SMS bomber to piss my friend off after he called me for like an hour straight.
The difference was that I got that message after 50+ sent texts, not 4 as you get.

I agree this is annoying. Hope someone finds a way do disable it.
Fix for SMS Limit
Google the following
:
bamfsmsfix-aosp-keysapk
This fixed it for me.

texting isn't data
Of course it's not a bug. Would be a very smart and fuctional bug in that case. A wanted bug (for me) for obvious reasons. Didn't even know we had that feature. Would be nice to be able to turn it off at will though.

He wasn't talking about texting. It was pretty clear that it was the sarcastic message that he quoted regarding web page loading that was being addressed.

Use this app. It will raise the amount of texts allowed per half hour to 500 instead of 30.

This will help... go to setting security on the bottom text message limited in 15 min... raise it to 1500 .. and it will be fine
what is "setting security" that you mean? can give me a screenshoot?
Is anyone else running into a problem when trying to use Google Voice to send a SMS via Google Now?
I can get a card to pop up with the Contact, but when I click 'Send Message' it just returns a blank area where a card should be.
Messaging works fine. Google Voice (which is what I use) does not.

ditto on that. It all looks like it's going to send and lets you select voice or messaging, but when it is sent it goes to a blank card and when I check SMS inside voice it shows nothing sent.

They are running the same build we are.
It's mostly curious that it worked fine before, but not now. Surely will be fixed soon enough. Just waiting on that day where I can easily get google voice sms read to me and responses dictated back well for the whole hands free deal.
Still seeing this
Hey, I'm on a brand-new, un-rooted, unmodified Galaxy Nexus, that was updated to OTA Jellybean yesterday. This is still broken for me. Looks like it should work but doesn't send the message, just stays on the Google now view with a big blank space. It won't let me post links (too new), but there's an issue over on Google Code Android space. Plus there's the bug that the auto-response texts (when a call is missed), won't send through GV either. Only Messaging. Lame Google. Why create GV with those features, if you're not going to integrate it all the way? They really need a setting that's "take over all SMS/MMS functionality" and if you turn it on, Messaging is effectively disabled, as all it does is handed off to GV.
It'll help if everyone stars and/or comments on these issues there, unfortunately I can't link to them, until I post like 8 more times.
I have the same problem
Unrooted unmodified Galaxy nexus with the ota jb
Any more info on this issue?
I was a big user of this feature in android 4.0 they broke it in 4.1 and here it is Months later I have the same problem. Google voice is even a Google made app. It should work. Its a big bummer for me because I do not pay for a regular texting plan.
I know this thread is a few months old and that why im using it because i have a question about google now and to see if the bugs that some mention here are gone.
Does google now allow you to send a text message to someone? From a screenshoot before it looks like it, but i don't find much info on it and i was looking for something that would work like siri, by reading back text messages and let us ditact them. If this indeed works, does it work well?
In terms of searching, google now seems to be better than siri and faster in a lot of ways, but i really wanted these text features that are useful when driving, as well as calling someone from the contacts list, send an email or put something on the calender(this one i have seen in a video and it seems like it worked well). Siri does all of this, so i was wondering if Android has a service that matches it.
I'm using the myoneV ROM and I'm having problems sending more than one text at a time. Anything less than that works. Usually I would have just bugged the OP of the ROM but I've had this problem on other ROMs before, so I was wondering if anyone had a work around for this? This is what I'm currently running:
Full TWRP 2.4.4 wipe after coming from x3treme sense (no problems on that ROM)
Installed myonev9.5 ROM and sickkkernel 0.6 using TWRP
Everything out of the box is working fine but multiple sms.
Here are some screenshots of the issue while sending sms to my Google Voice account:

}
As you can see, sending less than one text (160 characters) works fine, but gives an error if its anymore.
UPDATE (kind of):
I did a full wipe again. Even re-downloaded the ROM and what not. But insteaad I used JMZ's kernel instead of the sickkernel and I got the same results. Screenshots:
As you can see, I got JMZ's kernel working and installed the modules correctly (with wifi signal as proof)
So what's going on here?
And I don't mind that I just posted my Google Voice number. It takes ~2 seconds to change anyways.
I'm having the same issue too. But in using 3xreme Sense Alpha101 with sick kernel

It has nothing to do with kernel or ROM but which message app is included in the ROM.
160 char is the hTC stock limit for stock message app.
More then 160 char is modded app

It could, in theory, still have to do with the ROM. The 160 characters is the limit for SMS, after the limit it converts the message to MMS, or simply breaks the message into multiple SMS messages. It could be the message is being converted to MMS and for some reason (ROM/app whatever) the message fails.
Like maybe there's one apn setting for SMS, which is entered correctly so it sends fine if < 160
But there's a seperate apn for MMS, which isn't correct, so when the message gets converted it fails.

Make a search on xda, you will not find any guide on how to fix a "ROM" for the 160 limit but you will only find how to "mod" the stock mms.apk or message.apk. E.g. increase the smsToMmsTextThreshold to certain value so that it won't be converted to MMS after certain limit.
So I take it as it's not the ROM problem but the limit imposed on the message app.
I've had this problem for a while and I i can't actually recall if it ever worked. Now with a Android Wear watch the issue is extremely noticeable since it hinders the use of one of its main features.
I have OK google from any screen and even when locked but for some reason when i tell it to send an sms it will do it BUT the recipient never receives it.
It creates the sms on my phone but the recipient never gets it.
Maybe its my texting app but i have used Stock, Google, Hangouts, Textra. None of them seem to send through the "OK google command."
Any one able to offer some insight on this issue?
If some one has it working on their note maybe list what sms app you are using.
update: When I use google now it appears to be sending to the right number but it has a "011" in front of it which is why it isnt working.

Your saying that when you say "OK google > Text my xxx > Hello" that it actually sends no issue? I've been using message+ for a month now and it has never worked with Google Now/ Ok Google command.

Do you have the default samsung messages disabled or is it still there?
yes I have it frozen
I have reinstalled Google search, android wear, play services, reset my watch.
I have deleted all of my other texting apps except messages+. I have also disabled the default Samsung sms app.
Will still nothing works. The text shows up as sent but nothing is actually sent.
I think it may have to do with the default settings but my messaging app is not listed because when I chose Google voice it did send via Google voice. When I chose messaging it said it sent but it never did.

Did you ever find a solution to this issue? I'm having the exact same issue on my Galaxy S5 and it's driving me crazy.
I'm having a similar problem with my moto 360 and Note 4 DE.
What is kind of weird is I can send my friend (or myself) a message from my watch to their Iphone, but I can't send my wife a message on her S4. I noticed she just received an update not too long ago and was thinking the problem was somehow with her phone or newer version of android wear. However, I am curious to see what people find out.
Edit: I further thought it was my wife's phone as she has had problems lately of sending double text and her sent text showing up after she recieves a reply. In case any one is wondering her phone is a stock Verizon Galaxy S4.
FYI I am using Google Messenger.

Dear XDAnauts,
I don't recall always having this problem but nowadays the LOS app for messaging and SMS/MMS shows only four lines while typing:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And no matter how many lines you have typed, the window does not get bigger than 4 lines. Well, how shall I put it without using swear words?
Seriously, that is quite the flaw! You keep seeing all the previous messages in their full beauty but only 4 lines of your own text. Changing font size does not help...
Does anyone know how to change that? Or what other app to use?
I recently had to send an SMS, which I almost never do any longer. Hardly anyone does in Europe I believe, since these are still often charged. But I immediately saw the same problem. In any other messaging app the text field grows up to a certain number of lines.
Anyway, it's weird that the stock SMS has not caught up. Then again, I guess this is just AOSP, right? I'm not aware how much of AOSP's apps LineageOS actually provides better implementations of. Surely it's not this one. I just see the AOSP SMS app similar as the standard browser: they are just to have something until you install something better.
I guess where SMS text messaging is more common, like in the US, people who use LineageOS use something different. Perhaps just Google's version that can handle text messages. Sorry I lost track of which one that currently is. Also, I know that Signal can handle SMS. And what about Simple SMS Messenger on F-droid?
As an aside, of course for non LineageOS users, the majority just uses a vendor version of the (AOSP) app. It's actually a shame that SMS is not so much used in many areas of the world. It's nice when this is not controlled by a single app as a fully decentralised system. Perhaps if providers didn't charge for them, SMS would have progressed further and would have included encryption, more data types, and so on. There would be many good (and open source) SMS clients for many different outlets, giving people choice. Instead, only the service people are on is what drives competition, not the app development directly unfortunately.
