Dear XDAnauts,
I don't recall always having this problem but nowadays the LOS app for messaging and SMS/MMS shows only four lines while typing:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And no matter how many lines you have typed, the window does not get bigger than 4 lines. Well, how shall I put it without using swear words?
Seriously, that is quite the flaw! You keep seeing all the previous messages in their full beauty but only 4 lines of your own text. Changing font size does not help...
Does anyone know how to change that? Or what other app to use?
I recently had to send an SMS, which I almost never do any longer. Hardly anyone does in Europe I believe, since these are still often charged. But I immediately saw the same problem. In any other messaging app the text field grows up to a certain number of lines.
Anyway, it's weird that the stock SMS has not caught up. Then again, I guess this is just AOSP, right? I'm not aware how much of AOSP's apps LineageOS actually provides better implementations of. Surely it's not this one. I just see the AOSP SMS app similar as the standard browser: they are just to have something until you install something better.
I guess where SMS text messaging is more common, like in the US, people who use LineageOS use something different. Perhaps just Google's version that can handle text messages. Sorry I lost track of which one that currently is. Also, I know that Signal can handle SMS. And what about Simple SMS Messenger on F-droid?
As an aside, of course for non LineageOS users, the majority just uses a vendor version of the (AOSP) app. It's actually a shame that SMS is not so much used in many areas of the world. It's nice when this is not controlled by a single app as a fully decentralised system. Perhaps if providers didn't charge for them, SMS would have progressed further and would have included encryption, more data types, and so on. There would be many good (and open source) SMS clients for many different outlets, giving people choice. Instead, only the service people are on is what drives competition, not the app development directly unfortunately.

Yay! Perhaps not as pretty, but it certainly works:
Thank you! I wonder how I missed looking up F-Droid Nice, it seems to be able to import/export, too!

Well, EUrope mostly seems to be a country of moronic WhatsApes. Getting asked twice a month by someone to install it.
Most people have a contract that includes free SMS... free for domestic. However, sending them abroad usually can cost whopping 0.49€...

been searching the web for an app for for my desire that will allow me to take notes and also record signatures (draw) as part of the same note. then be able to save under my own file name and email as a doc or pdf.
Used to use Notes on windows mobile and need something similar
Have tried note everything which almost does it all but will not allow for text/paint notes to be part of the same note
Anyone know of anything that will do.
Thanks

The problem I've got is that I have to use my phone to record customer visits, and hence the ability to record a signature as part of a text note is critical.
otherwise I have to continue to use my windows mobile to record the visits. I really want to bin the palm and use my desire
There must be a developer out there that could combine these features, if windows mobile has it why doesn't android. I had the same issue with my iphone as well. Someone cold make a killing here if they got it together.
As I said earlier, Note everything almost does it but not the combined note!
You want them to enter a signature on your phone's screen, without a stylus? Not sure how well that would work... I was thinking maybe you'd have them sign a piece of paper and then your could photograph it. Not very slick though...
Finger signatures work fine, try it on Note everything using a paint note. Its quite novell and customers that I experimented on before with the iphone were positive. Yuo can also get a stylus to work with the desire
MaplePaint might be worth a look.

Its not bad, but the instructions are poor and cant work out how to apply text. it doesn't allow you to email, but I guess if I can find where it saves the files I should be able to add as an attachment?
Will perservere
My choice is "Note Board". Fast and easy UI and looks great.
In the last couple of days all my iPhone-toting friends have been showing off their Places app which logs their location to their Facebook profile, along with a map link. Apparently it never worked before, but now it does.
It's a total load of cr*p, but in the interests of showing them that Android can do anything the iPhone can (usually better), and also to shut them up, I'd like to know if there's some way I can have that functionality on my Desire. Just so I can do it the once and say "It's a waste of time which is why no-one on Android uses it"
Any ideas?
Android user can also use this feature if you go to the facebook mobile site with your browser. However I have no doubt this feature will pop up in the next facebook app update.

I think the places thing could be a security risk. Even if you don't put your location, a friend can tag you as being in a location. The only way out of this is through changing privacy settings to opt out.

This is odd. I don't haver this feature. Maybe it's country specific.
I'm using 4sq and it updates my location to both facebook and twitter.

Pretty sure its location specific. I was in the states a couple of weeks ago when they were trialling it there. Came back an it wasn't available in the UK until recently. Still in a testing phase I believe. Will no doubt have a bigger roll out with the next update to the Facebook app.
At present it's only available in the US and the UK, the rest of Europe will receive it soon.
As above it'll probably be in the next Facebook app update, whenever that comes along...
i just made a page for us who seem to get left till last by facebook .. its on facebook.com/pages/Equal-Applications
i suppose its kinda encouraging them to make our apps good and not just focus on ipods
hope people that feel the same jump on and add their views
Happy day,
I've spent some time learning about my phone, messing around a little bit with what comes stock and such. One thing that keeps nagging me is how much of my data the various programs in Google Play want. What business is it of a game-maker to want my contact list? Why should a ringtone or wallpaper or recipe or any other program require that I surrender my data? Sure, they want mine for billing or marketing, that's fine, but why my contacts?
Here's one. A company called Droidhen makes a game. They require the ability to read phone status and ID, which gives them info about me and the number a call is connected to. Why do they require knowing the number to which I am connected?
The list goes on, of course, and maybe I misunderstand Google's warnings about what these companies want, but perhaps not?
Which brings me to the reason for my post. I would like to be able to use and pay for programs that do not access all of my accounts, take my data, track me and such. If I use a program that needs to know my location in order for it to work, that's fine. But in the end, I want to limit what companies can seize.
Will rooting provide me with access to the privacy controls I want?
You could try using this, it's a port of how MIUI handles superuser and permissions. I have not used it myself but it seems like it has the features you are looking for by managing what permission's an app is allowed to have.

For the droidhen game, it needs the ability to read your phone status and Id so if someone calls, it will go to the phone call I think. I havent looked into it much but theres options out there

Is anyone else running into a problem when trying to use Google Voice to send a SMS via Google Now?
I can get a card to pop up with the Contact, but when I click 'Send Message' it just returns a blank area where a card should be.
Messaging works fine. Google Voice (which is what I use) does not.

ditto on that. It all looks like it's going to send and lets you select voice or messaging, but when it is sent it goes to a blank card and when I check SMS inside voice it shows nothing sent.
Broken!
There is bound to be some bugs. A new platform on a developer preview...

They are running the same build we are.
It's mostly curious that it worked fine before, but not now. Surely will be fixed soon enough. Just waiting on that day where I can easily get google voice sms read to me and responses dictated back well for the whole hands free deal.
Still seeing this
Hey, I'm on a brand-new, un-rooted, unmodified Galaxy Nexus, that was updated to OTA Jellybean yesterday. This is still broken for me. Looks like it should work but doesn't send the message, just stays on the Google now view with a big blank space. It won't let me post links (too new), but there's an issue over on Google Code Android space. Plus there's the bug that the auto-response texts (when a call is missed), won't send through GV either. Only Messaging. Lame Google. Why create GV with those features, if you're not going to integrate it all the way? They really need a setting that's "take over all SMS/MMS functionality" and if you turn it on, Messaging is effectively disabled, as all it does is handed off to GV.
It'll help if everyone stars and/or comments on these issues there, unfortunately I can't link to them, until I post like 8 more times.
I have the same problem
Unrooted unmodified Galaxy nexus with the ota jb
Any more info on this issue?
I was a big user of this feature in android 4.0 they broke it in 4.1 and here it is Months later I have the same problem. Google voice is even a Google made app. It should work. Its a big bummer for me because I do not pay for a regular texting plan.
I know this thread is a few months old and that why im using it because i have a question about google now and to see if the bugs that some mention here are gone.
Does google now allow you to send a text message to someone? From a screenshoot before it looks like it, but i don't find much info on it and i was looking for something that would work like siri, by reading back text messages and let us ditact them. If this indeed works, does it work well?
In terms of searching, google now seems to be better than siri and faster in a lot of ways, but i really wanted these text features that are useful when driving, as well as calling someone from the contacts list, send an email or put something on the calender(this one i have seen in a video and it seems like it worked well). Siri does all of this, so i was wondering if Android has a service that matches it.
So I've had this issue for as long as I can remember, the issue is simple to explain, basically for example if I'd get a message on Facebook messenger or WhatsApp the notification would never come up unless I actually opened the app, I always locked the apps in the task manager but that never seemed to help, also in battery options going to advanced I disabled auto cleaning for the apps I wanted notifications from, that having no effect whatsoever I'm coming here asking for your help, I think I'm running the chinese version of EUI 5.5.013s, and I read somewhere that the notification issue is fixed in the Indian version of EUI for the x800 which I can't find. Can anyone lend a hand?

I also have the same problem. For whatsapp messages, i need to open whatsapp in order to receive messages.
I have been using this phone for almost 2 weeks now and i can honestly say it is the WORST phone i've had! bad camera, bad battery life and now late notifications.

My IR remote keeps on crashing. Are you using the stock IR remote?
I dont have lag issues either.
How is your battery life?
Do you sometimes have focus issues? especially for close (1Metre) objects?
