i dont know on all versions of android, mine is android 2.3.5 ginger bread, kernel version 2.6.38.6-perf.
with kingo, you have to be patient, even if it says not recognized, just wait a little bit longer. it worked for me, and i was finally able to move some apps to my sd card to save memory.

So I just bought a Play today and have been wondering if i should go ahead with an update to the latest version or if I should root and do something cool. I'm not really sure what to do and looking for suggestions.
Thanks,
Kris
Root it using gingerbreak first, then update it on the phone itself. That way you can have newer software, and still be rooted. Being rooted is definitely nice, if anything it gives you access to some pretty nifty apps on the market that require root to work.

Thanks although when I go to software update on the phone it says it cannt connect to the network. I'm connected to wifi and browsing and market work. I'm guessing if I used the SE software on the pc it would not allow me to root or would not save the root?
Or do i need to root first for the software update to work?
Thanks in advance,
Kris
What version are you using? R800a, r800i, or r800x.
Sent from my rooted R800a 2.3.3 BL locked
I wouldnt know >_< how do i find out?
NVM its R800i
EDIT: Just rooted the Play, now to try and get the on phone software update to work I guess.
EDIT2: Yea it still says searching for update and then cannont connect to the network.
EDIT3: Well i updated using the PC and it removed SuperUser so... i'm guessing no more root. I dont wanan run the gingerbreak again incase ti messes up and bricks or something.
If you want a do-over, go to this thread.
Hi i have a problem with an application from my internet provider called Telenet.
The application name is Yelo, it allows you to watch TV on your android device, great feature heh!
if it would work, ive tested it on my girlfriends Phone wich is not rooted and there it works.
So the application 'Yelo' says to me "you are using a rooted smartphone or tablet, yelo tv does not support these devices.".
so i checked the build number on my girfriends Phone thinking they would try to match that with some database.
So i edited the build.prop rebooted the Phone, but it didnt help.
Does anyone have an idea on how to bypass this check without locking my Phone again?
Thanks, Kind Regards.

You could try the OTA Rootkeeper app. It's not a database match; I'm guessing the app tries to use su.
Also on some ROMs you can turn off root, I know you can on CM.
Fixed

Does this still work for you after the update from november (v 3.1)? On my Desire HD it stopped working since the last update (the one with Rex & Rio). I tried temp unroot with SuperUser (what I have always used) and Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper but neither still does the trick. It keeps saying I have a rooted device and rooted devices aren't supported. Rolled back to the previous version (3.0.4) but when I start it, it forces me to update to the newest version .
I hate Telenet for being so retarted. As if we can't record the live stream using a Windows pc ... which is always 'rooted' and has plenty of apps.
okay

I recently had my LG G2 stolen from me and have had to go back to the trust p930. I am using bell variant in canada and its on GB 2.3.5. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to root it. I can't update it with B2Cappsetup because everytime I try to open that it says "Need to connect to internet". My drivers are always "not found even though I've downloaded LG mobile unite drivers from their site and OTA updates say I have latest verion. Sigh. Anyone able to tell a half baked noob how to achieve root and CWM/TWRP in the easiest way known? WOuld be a huge help

In order to root it you have to have the drivers installed so try installing the drivers on another pc or try to figure the problem. If you just want it rooted and nothing more (Custom ROM, Recovery, or Kernel), then use Bi4nary's root. If you want a custom ROM, Recovery, or Kernel, then you have to 'Unbrick' and I would suggest you use hereric's method. Both of them work perfectly

SO I couldn't just root with something easy like superoneclick then Just download TWRP from goo manager and flash roms through that? I HAVE to do that long complicated guide? I definetly am too noob to follow that, I can't even open Bc2appsetup for some reason let alone the rest of it!
Superoneclick will work to root this phone. As others have experienced, it takes one shot or multiple tries to get it rooted. IRC, I had to also install the Android SDK package before it got rooted.
BUT, if you just bought that phone as used it might be already rooted so check that first before you waste your time.

hey,
im trying to root my f240s, but i can find "development" under settings. according to the root tutorial i have to enable the USB debugging, which is under development..
im on kitkat 4.4.2, but there are many korean apps, i would like to get rid of them and if it's possible install the newest 4.4.4 kitkat, so is it possible to install it without any problems?

What rom is it? Give a try to Towelroot V3, I just used it yesterday. It should work on stock V10x roms, I don't know about AOSPish roms, after towelroot install supersu from playstore and let it update binaries normal way.
Let me know if this works or else I can let you know the other method I know.
i used the towelroot and rooted the phone. removed a bunch of korean apps with titanium backup, but now im worried if i uninstalled something important
on the list of apps in titanium all the way down i see
imsdatadlb
imsdatadserver
imsqmisocket
crossed with a line, so is that something i should worry about?
so now i have a rooted phone with a 4.4.2 kitkat. as i understand i cant receive official updates? i will have to update the phone manually? can i update it to 4.4.4? i would only update it if it's 100% safe.. i dont want to mess something up. im happy with 4.4.2 but just want to know if i can update the phone down the line to a newer software, maybe even down the road when officially ther wont be any updates for ogp?
Is there a process to gain root access on the last Sony stock firmware release 14.6.A.1.236 (Android 5.1.1) with a LOCKED bootloader???
There are processes for rooting ZC1 Android 4.4, but was wondering if things had moved on since then.
Thx.

Do this - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72547776&postcount=6 or downgrade to KK and use Doomlord rootkit, then flash LP prf.
KingRoot works with the latest stock firmware (.236). Just tried it today on my Z1C without any issues.
Just tried KingRoot, not working.
I would also like to get root, but it seems so much more complicated than for any other product which I cannot really understand. I just want to get rid of some bloatware but downgrading and new roms and all of this is not a road I want to go, nor loosing any existing data.
Would be great if somebody has something to make that all easier.

If you're on stock LP, Kingroot should work. Many have done it. There's not going to be any other way to root without wiping data, but you can restore data after rooting.

Scroll down here for many versions - http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/kingro...-release/kingroot-5-0-1-android-apk-download/
I think latest version has worked for some, but maybe try an older one. One thing about Kingroot is that it will sometimes say root not possible, but then actually root it. Also, trying the same thing more than once will sometimes have different results.
I'd have to check to see what version I used, but I think it was whatever the latest version was.
There are two versions of KingRoot, the APK and a Windows application. If one doesn't work then maybe try the other.
kingoroot works , and using pc version looks easier because all kingo apps are easy to delete
ok so it works for everyone than me, hmm, ok have to live with that.
thanks
idk if theres a difference, but i found apks which were "kingroot" only and others named "newkingroot" Ive always only used the last one and it worked fine. Here's a link to the official release. Might be at least worth another try. https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/one-click-root-tool-android-2-x-5-0-t3107461
i resetted my phone and used kingroot and it says it works. also like kingoroot before. I tested with root checker and seems fine.
but as soon as I try to uninstall some build in apps google books. google chrome to save storage on the system it fails.
I do get prompted for root access but using different apps I get the sams result.
is that normal?
fixed all of this, just started with a complete fresh installation
both are working, even if they do not say so after the process has finished.
nevertheless, seems system partition is not writable, even if you are root and have installed dualrecovery - seems the system partition needs to be mounted manually to rw. Havent tested this yet
mount -o remount,rw /system
