[Q] Error 7 when trying to flash new rom - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I'm not sure if my CWM is out of date: 5.5.0.4
Trying to flash this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2148306
I'm not sure where to obtain the newer version of CWM if it is out of date for d2att.
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager is giving http error 503, so it's not something I could download from.

i'd say searching would give you the correct answer, but it appears XDA search is down currently.
yes- it would help to have the most updated CWM. the easiest method to do that would be download ROM Manager from the Play Store, then use it to update CWM.
an alternate method would be to find the IMG file somewhere else, and use fastboot to update CWM.
and also, you need an updated bootloader. anything 4.2.2 and up requires it (since the ROM you're flashing is 4.3).

Where would I get the updated bootloader? I currently have LS 4.2.2 installed
*edit*
Got the nightly version of CM from get.cm for d2att
and got the new gapps from goo.im
Installed CM 10.2 [4.3] and is working like a charm

[Q] Switching to Android 4.2 from 4.1.2

Hi,
I installed Samsung Galaxy Nexus Toolkit V9.1.0 for GSM to root my device and use Team Win Recovery Project V2.2.2.0 to install ROMs.
Currently on Official nightly build of Cyanogen Mod 10 Rom Android 4.1.2 Build JZO54K.
I want to know if I need to update anything to switch to Android 4.2 ROM or should I just download a good rom and flash it using the software?
While we are on the subject, can someone please recommend a good ROM? When will start getting Cyanogen Mod for Android 4.2?
Thanks.
You should update your recovery to the latest version (either CWM ot TWRP) to avoid nested "0" folders each time you flash a new rom.
Other than that, I didn't do anything else.
By the way, I'm using Cataclysm rom.

Just update your TWRP to the latest version 2.3.2.1. You can easily do that via GooManager app which you can find in the Play Store
There is no specific "good" ROM, just try then decide
Good Luck

Hi,
I have GooManager installed.... When I search for TWRP 2.3.2.1 I get 2.3.2.3 version shown as available as well. It's a zip and .img file as well. Am I supposed to just download and flash it? I mean the zip file would be flashed using the current TWRP right and it will auto upgrade?
Also, What I understand is that if I have 2.3.2.1 I can install 4.2 ROMs without having to root my phone using Galaxy Nexus Toolkit V10.1 because the screenshots shows 4.2 in it?
Also to find something I have to use search place on GooManager, isnt there a list of updated list of softwares available on it? I can see ROMs etc very neatly can be seen there but not patches like these.

Please be careful with the TWRP version as 2.3.2.3 seems to be for Nexus 4 not our GNex. Follow the following steps to download and install latest TWRP for your device (2.3.2.1):
1- Run GooManager app
2- Click on the upper right 3 dots for settings
3- Click "Install OpenRecoveryScript"
4- Confirm Recovery Install --> Yes
5- Confirm download, reboot, and install --> Yes
6- A download process will start then it will be installed
7- (Optional) Reboot into recovery to ensure that TWRP is successfully installed and working.
As far as I know, you need root for GooManager app already for many functions. I never used the GNex toolkit nor have an idea which screenshots you are referring to.
I am not sure I got your last point but if you are searching for ROMs via GooManager then it is there in the first option of the app --> Browse compatible ROMs. But honestly I have never used this so can't share you any experience regarding it.
Hope this helps

Assert failed: getprop("ro.bootloader" == "l710vpbLj7

I just flashed CM10.1 on my Sprint S3.
I am trying to flash the latest nightly and I am getting the following error in both CWM and TWRP
Assert failed: getprop("ro.bootloader" == "l710vpbLj7" ... and it repeats that line specific to other versions (L710VPBMA6 etc)
I had an older version of CWM ... but still a 6+ when I flashed it. I since installed (via goomanager) TWRP as it looked cool. I started getting this error. Next, I used CWM to install the latest 6.0.3.1 version of CWM. It's still not wokring.
I seem to be able to download the goomanager latest DL and that's what I used to get the initial flashable zip.
Any ideas? I'm kinda at a loss. I'd do a full wipe but I'm afraid that if I do that I'll be SOL - as I have a current functional ROM right now.
Thoughts???

**** UPDATE *****
****THIS SOLUTION and LINKS ARE ONLY APPLICABLE TO SPRINT GALAXY S3 PHONES ... FYI FYI FYI******
yes. I have. The problem is that we have an old version of the FIRMWARE. If you flash the following to update your firmware to MD4:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910947 and install Galaxy-S-fre3-MD4FirmwareModemAIO.zip from CWM.
There are some new checks that happen that require the MD4 stuff. For more information about that - you can check https://plus.google.com/app/basic/stream/z13cdxpafunnexghb04cc5q4knbyjh4hprg0k
Also, clear cache/dalvik - not that it matters - but I did that - and i found things working. So, after flash, go into /cmupdate folder and flash the latest - it should work (unless i'm just lucky)

Thank you so much. Fixed my issue as well. One thing I have to add is that you should do Advanced > Reboot Recovery if you still cannot flash the ROM that gave you the assert problems.
I remember reading that from now on CM10.1 will need the MD4 bootloader or else you get that assert error.

Anyone know if this will work for the Sph-l710 for Virgin Mobile? I'm trying to flash a 4.4 Rom and I'm wanting to try this but it sounds too risky.... Thoughts?
Ok, so I'm getting the same error as OP, trying to flash the CM10.2 Stable (via TWRP) and I understand that I may need to update my firmware or bootloader (are these different?). The only problem is, I may have accidentally installed the OTA 4.3 rom with Knox. I ended up reflashing right away after I realized what I'd done, and the rom I have now (4.3 stock w/ root) doesn't have any knox apps, nothing about knox in device manager, and root/superuser is working just fine.
That said, I'm a bit scared to update my firmware as I've heard stories about Knox working in the background and bricking. Is there a way I can be sure updating my firmware wont brick me? Can someone point me to the latest file I should be flashing here?

Thanks in advance. I've gotta get off the stock 4.3, battery life and sluggish behavior are killing me.

[Q] How to install d2att roms on d2can?

I have had a problem, I want to install aokp for my GS3 Model Sgh-1747m but I have not seen a single tutorial on how to do so. I am new to the forums and I have some understanding of how Root and Android work(My phone is rooted). I would like someone to show me how to add the aokp rom without any worries. This would be greatly appreciated.
My phone: Samsung Galaxy S III (Android 4.3)
Model: Sgh-1747m

Are you on stock 4.3 ROM? Do you have any warranty left on your phone?
If you still have warranty and you're running a stock 4.3 ROM, you will void your warranty by flashing a custom recovery or rooting your phone.

I didn't manually change the build.prop but i installed the d2att version of TWRP 2.6.3.1 and that allowed me to install d2att ROMs (I chose Quantum ROM). When First I tried the d2can TWRP (which I got from Goo Manager) and I couldn't install the ROM. Updating to the d2att TWRP fixed that.

I did the same with my d2can. I installed the d2att version of twrp and can now flash d2att roms with no issues. Download goomanager from play store, and instead of letting it detect your phone model (d2can), manually select d2att and install. That's what I did.

I just took a look at goomanager and the options look different than when I flashed twrp (d2att). It's either because I already have the recovery installed or maybe the app has updated. It's been so long since I did it myself. Try googling it or searching in twrp's thread here on xda. I'm sure you will be able to find step by step instructions.

Using which method, #1 or #2? I did #1 and installed TWRP via Goo Manager (IIRC). But that gave me the d2can version. I don't think you need to bother checking, though, just use ODIN to flash the new recovery (TWRP 2.6.3.1) from the link I gave you earlier. After backing up etc etc.
I had the exact same problem as OP.
What the recovery is trying to do is install a D2ATT rom onto a D2ATT phone which the Canadian carriers change to D2CAN in their build.prop file.
1. Find your build.prop file in system/data and make a backup of it however you which. I made a copy and just called it something else. Go to your build.prop file and change any instance of "d2can" to d2att. When I did this there was two. One on build.product=d2can and one on build.device. I just checked and CM changed some of the settings around and now there is just one.
Save the file and it'll ask you to reboot.
Now anything you download will think it's an actual at&t device (which is good).
The standard method for getting TWRP on your device is through goomanager but samsungs knox gave me issues trying to install a custom recovery.
2. Get the app "Recovery Tools" Or, specifically [ROOT]Recovery Tools - Flasher by DSLNEXUS.
and download the recovery file here http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2/104
Download the .img file via dd into the root folder of your phone.
Open up recovery tools and select flash recovery and select other from storage. You CAN select TWRP and have the app do it for you but sometimes it uses older versions. I chose "other from storage" then you select the twrp file you downloaded.
3. At this point you should be able to boot into twrp and flash from there. Don't forget your gapps.
I spent months on and off wracking my brain trying to figure out how to do this on my phone without bricking it. I did it this way and it worked without a hitch.

(Q) Update CWM for Flashing 4.4.2 ROM

Hey guys.
I'm on 4.3, rooted with CWM 6.0.2.3. (just got this phone).
I want to flash a 4.4.2 Rom but every1 says to update CWM to 6.0.4.5 or above, i've tried via adb commands but not succedded, tried via KIt and flashed successfully but when entering the CWM, it still the 0.2.3. :S
Is there any flashable zip or something?
How to update the bootloader to support the 44.2 roms?
I've searched around but no direct answer.... feelling so dumb at this point ... (done all of this with Htc, samsung, lg and with a Nexus cant get it done ... damn).
Thanks a lot in advance!!
osm0sis has flashable zips. And otherwise download the image and flash via fastboot.

Have you considered using TWRP instead? I have found it to be much better and have been using it for years on my Nexus. Just download the "Goo Manager" app from the play store, and make sure you are rooted.
Once installed, click on the menu button and then press "Install OpenRecovery Script". This should install the latest TWRP for your nexus, and after that, you should have a nice touch based recovery with buttons and other cool functionality as opposed to struggling with CWM.
I am currently running Omnimetal 4.4.2 and it is blazing fast and smooth. My battery lasts at least 2 days now, and standby (using groove ip on wifi) is also close to a week
Best of Luck!

[Q] HTC One M7 Verizon-Mobile Network not available

Here is my dilemma, I recently unlocked and rooted my HTC One M7 for Verizon. I may not have performed a backup but I am oblivious to what the problem may be. I am a newb to rooting and unlocking so please spare me any negative feedback. S-off was successful using firewater. Phone is unlocked in bootloader. Phone was rooted through TWRP v2.7.0.0 and SU. After root was successful I did a factory reset then flashed CM11 with TWRP. CM11 installation was successful except for one problem. My mobile network is not available and a message appears on the screen(You need to refer to the SIM card instruction that came with your phone.) The CM11 file that I installed is: cm-11-20140407-NIGHTLY-m7.zip and after reading that the "Nightly" roms are not the most stable, I then flashed this one: cm-11-20140405-SNAPSHOT-M5-m7.zip. Here is what the Installation looked like in Recovery:
Updating partition details...
Full SELinux support is present.
Formatting Cache using make_ext4fs function.
Wiping data without wiping /data/media ...
Done.
Updating partition details...
Installing ' /sdcard/Download/cm-11-20140405-SN
APSHOT-M5-m7.zip'...
Checking for MD5 file...
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found.
Updating partition details..
Successful.
Following the successful flash, I then installed gapps-kk-20131208. Please be detailed in how I can fix this issue. Thanks so much in advance.

No he doesn't mean it has to do with the rom. Firmware is flashed separate from roms. Once you flash it, you don't have to worry about it unless a newer firmware gets released. Go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485319 and follow the instructions on the 2nd post. Use 3.11.605.1 NO Boot.img firmware.zip since you'll be doing custom roms.

I installed this successfully but I still can't make or receive calls. I am wondering if the version of cyanogenmod that I flashed might not be compatible but I did not get a status 7 error when installing. I am also wondering why I got the sim card message when first installing cm11. The version that I installed is stated above on my first post but cyanogenmod has m7 and m7vzw, I can install m7, which I believe is for GSM but I have a Verizon HTC One. When I try to flash the m7vzw version I get the status 7 error code. I tried to do a fix for it but I may have done this incorrectly since I got a status 6 error code. Plz help. I need this phone for work.
You want the m7vzw, the regular m7 is gsm. Status 7 refers to an error in the update script or an incompatible update binary. Does it give a specific error with that status 7? You should also update your twrp to version 2.7.0.4b-santod. http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407584851
Last i heard cm11 is only in preview and data and calls do not work. That may have changed though.
Error
I updated the twrp to v2.7.0.4b-santod, did a factory reset and tried to flash cm11 for m7vzw and was given this mssg...E:Error executing updater binary in zip ' /sdcard/Download/cm-11-20140124-NIGHTLY-M7VZW.ZIP' Setting performance mode OFF. Error flashing zip....etc.....
Why are you flashing an old nightly, and not the one from yesterday? http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=m7vzw&type=nightly
I think your issue is that your trying to flash an older nightly with a newer recovery. The newer recoveries have updated binaries that older roms arent compatie with. So either flash a newer nightly, or and older recovery.
If you want a stable rom, i would not use cm11, i would go with cm10.2.
Compatible
The twrp version you recommended and the yesterday's nightly don't work together. Do you have a recovery and a cm11 that are compatible that you can recommend?
