Here is my dilemma, I recently unlocked and rooted my HTC One M7 for Verizon. I may not have performed a backup but I am oblivious to what the problem may be. I am a newb to rooting and unlocking so please spare me any negative feedback. S-off was successful using firewater. Phone is unlocked in bootloader. Phone was rooted through TWRP v2.7.0.0 and SU. After root was successful I did a factory reset then flashed CM11 with TWRP. CM11 installation was successful except for one problem. My mobile network is not available and a message appears on the screen(You need to refer to the SIM card instruction that came with your phone.) The CM11 file that I installed is: cm-11-20140407-NIGHTLY-m7.zip and after reading that the "Nightly" roms are not the most stable, I then flashed this one: cm-11-20140405-SNAPSHOT-M5-m7.zip. Here is what the Installation looked like in Recovery:
Updating partition details...
Full SELinux support is present.
Formatting Cache using make_ext4fs function.
Wiping data without wiping /data/media ...
Done.
Updating partition details...
Installing ' /sdcard/Download/cm-11-20140405-SN
APSHOT-M5-m7.zip'...
Checking for MD5 file...
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found.
Updating partition details..
Successful.
Following the successful flash, I then installed gapps-kk-20131208. Please be detailed in how I can fix this issue. Thanks so much in advance.
Have you ever updated to kk firmware? If your using a kk based rom, you also need kk firmware.

No he doesn't mean it has to do with the rom. Firmware is flashed separate from roms. Once you flash it, you don't have to worry about it unless a newer firmware gets released. Go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485319 and follow the instructions on the 2nd post. Use 3.11.605.1 NO Boot.img firmware.zip since you'll be doing custom roms.

I installed this successfully but I still can't make or receive calls. I am wondering if the version of cyanogenmod that I flashed might not be compatible but I did not get a status 7 error when installing. I am also wondering why I got the sim card message when first installing cm11. The version that I installed is stated above on my first post but cyanogenmod has m7 and m7vzw, I can install m7, which I believe is for GSM but I have a Verizon HTC One. When I try to flash the m7vzw version I get the status 7 error code. I tried to do a fix for it but I may have done this incorrectly since I got a status 6 error code. Plz help. I need this phone for work.
You want the m7vzw, the regular m7 is gsm. Status 7 refers to an error in the update script or an incompatible update binary. Does it give a specific error with that status 7? You should also update your twrp to version 2.7.0.4b-santod. http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407584851
Last i heard cm11 is only in preview and data and calls do not work. That may have changed though.
Error
I updated the twrp to v2.7.0.4b-santod, did a factory reset and tried to flash cm11 for m7vzw and was given this mssg...E:Error executing updater binary in zip ' /sdcard/Download/cm-11-20140124-NIGHTLY-M7VZW.ZIP' Setting performance mode OFF. Error flashing zip....etc.....
Why are you flashing an old nightly, and not the one from yesterday? http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=m7vzw&type=nightly
I think your issue is that your trying to flash an older nightly with a newer recovery. The newer recoveries have updated binaries that older roms arent compatie with. So either flash a newer nightly, or and older recovery.
If you want a stable rom, i would not use cm11, i would go with cm10.2.
Compatible
The twrp version you recommended and the yesterday's nightly don't work together. Do you have a recovery and a cm11 that are compatible that you can recommend?

But recently I got quite sick of sense and when I tried in stall this rom the phone would not work, I tried cm11 after but it would not flash at all giving me an error every time. I read that I need to update my firmware but Im not really sure what that means, or how to tell what firmware I am on(I thought firmware was the same thing as a rom?)

There were some recent changes to CM11 that require a new recovery. Have you tried the latest version of TWRP?
Where you using the CM11 nightlies or M releases?

Where there any errors while installing the rom in TWRP? You might try one of the CyanogenMod snapshots instead of a nightly, they're a bit more stable and well tested. Also, make sure that you backup and wipe when switching between different roms.

Hello,
I am fighting since yesterday to get the OTA update to install so I wanted to share my current steps and hopefully someone can suggest how to move on.
I have a GT-I9505, initially 'samsung version'. I installed TWRP in order to install the GPe edition. My phone is rooted.
I used to have TWRP 2.6.x
A few days ago, I got like many the OTA update for Lollipop. I let the phone download it and reboot. That´s when things became a bit more complicated.
After reboot, it went to TWRP where no update happened. If I reboot, I get back to be GPe version 4.4.4
I tried upgrading TWRP to a recent version without better results. I tried with TWRP 2.8.1.0
I have read in several places that the issue is that the OTA update expects the stock recovery.
Unfortunately so far I did not find a stock recovery for my S4 that does the trick.
I tried using the "Miustone_stock_recovery-flash-GE4.3". I could install the recovery.
I did save the OTA zip but I don´t know how I can skip the download and use the OTA zip... so so far I do it the 'lazy-lengthy' way and I wait for the download.
After flashing this 4.3 recovery, I get a slightly better result (but nothing better than I got using TWRP): After downloading the OTA, the phone reboots, goes to recovery and it tries to install the OTA update but it fails with the following message:
mmc_test.ko has unexpected content... Status 7
Can anyone suggest a way to easily install this OTA? I guess using a correct recovery could help... if I could find it.
Any hint appreciated.
if your rooted, you cannot OTA update.

Are you saying the recovery is NOT the issue and if I unroot (I guess this is possible) it would work ?
As an update, I just tried now using Miustone_Stock_Recovery-flash-XXUBMF8.zip and I get the same result.
I have seen alot of people complain about the 7 error, i even got it when i attempted to update. Everything i read states you cannot update with the OTA .zip if your phone is modified with root and/or a custom recovery.
My advice is use one of the 3 or 4 GPE roms from the 9505 thread. But if you want to totally factory reset your phone have fun, to each his own. :good:

Hi Justda,
First of all, thanks for your time and answers. My expectations are fairly low actually I installed the GPe version thinking it would make it simpler.
I was happy to get the OTA thinking I could upgrade in a click...
I realize from your answer that the OTA I am getting on my I9505 is actually meant for the I9505G and thus will not work whatever I do (correct me if I am wrong).
I will follow your advice and pick up one of those ROMs. Do you recommend a specific one?
iBastid or Danvh are my go to guys. Both are active and have a large following of users.
Danvh is straight up no aroma install, you mod it yourself.
Bastid uses aroma to give you more initial choice with his customizations.
But its up to personal preference right now, GPE is still to new for a lot of ROM pimping...

I would suggest you to use antaresone's lollipop rom

Questions, it's not here, ask to move this thread in the good section... Q & A
Former I605 note 2 user that was too comfortable with Odin & TWRP try to flash back from mistakenly taken CM12 lollipop update & somehow deleted the most important file in the EFS folder erasing my IMEI & everything else needed to connect to towers. Repair attempts eventually hard bricked whole phone & being way too comfortable with how uneventful CM updates had been going for years, I did not have any backups.
Had a new Verizon m7 note in storage as a backup phone & now it is my main phone since all used i605's I can find have 4.3 or newer OTA which hard locks bootloader.
Besides the screen PPI & front facing speakers, I dislike everything else about the phone compared to my note, especially SenseUI.
I am very confused about how you do things with this HTC thing, reading all kinds of posts contradicting & muddying what should be simple so I just want to know the least complicated way to get unlocked bootloader/soff & have the latest CM11 build while still being able to come back to rumrunner-compatible stock if needed.
I am on STOCK 1.10.605.8 software.
Am I correct in thinking I can use rumrunner to SOFF
flash latest 5.28.605.2 firmware
Flash the latest rooted decrypted 4.4.3 RUU
flash latest TWRP recovery
Flash latest CM11 build/custom kernel/Gapps/etc.
somewhat enjoy my tiny screen a bit more knowing I have done everything possible to improve performance while being fully able to do whatever I need without requiring Sunshine
Couple concerns of mine is that people are saying HBoot 1.57 is not reversible & if I flash the latest firmware, it would put me on that bootloader which is not good right?
Do I have to boot after each flash or can I do them in 1 session?
Also, on the CM page about installing CM to this particular phone, it says: "If you are unsure which firmware you are coming from, you can start with v3.11.605.1; it is a complete firmware package. The firmware included with v4.10.605.3 and v5.28.605.2 are incremental updates; they should be applied in succession after v3.11.605.1."
So I can't just flash from my version straight to newest even though the file sizes for all 3 latest firmwares they listed are comparable to a full size package?
Am I gaining anything from having the latest 'base' software to flash ROMs onto (4.4.3 RUU vs my current 4.2.2?)
Would having the latest rumrunner capable software (1.10.605.15) be preferred as a base for CM11 for reversion capability?
Can I have the latest firmware (5.28.605.2) running on 1.10.605.15 software running 4.4.4 CM11 ROM or must firmware match base software?
Is flashing a unencrypted rooted RUU the same as flashing the deodexed rooted Rom of the same thing besides the nifty .exe windows autoinstaller?
If I do all this, would I be able to get back to where I am at now if needed?
Is a full TWRP backup sufficient insurance?
Compression of backup any issue?
If all this is posted somewhere I have not found, please let me know.

After you s-off just run the 4.4.3 ruu. You will be fine. You always want the latest firmware as it has updated radios and other things needed for the Rom you are flashing.

What? Our "software" versions are for sense roms. Once you put AOSP on your phone you would only go by firmware.

No, an RUU is a Rom Update Utility. It is official HTC firmware and software packaged into a zip or exe. Unsigned is one made by our lovely members whilst signed is from HTC. It will flash the needed firmware and Sense software to make your phone be like out of box Condition while still keeping s-off and unlock.

You could find a 1.10.605.8 ruu somewhere in the vzw one forums. You could flash that and run the command to lock the bootloader and s-on if you wanted to downgrade and go back to where you are now.
Full tarp back up is usually a good insurance. I suggest learning how to ruu and try it out a few times as sometimes the phone can be so borked up that a twrp restore will not fix firmware issues.
I have never done compression as it doesn't work well with TiBu.

Side note: unless you are selling or sending to HTC (which won't matter about firmware, as they "do you a favor" and update for you) you would have no reason to lock or go s-on.
Unlock and s status is different than Samsung world. Unlock lets you flash things like recoveries and roms, doing so would put the "tampered flag up if you are not s-off. This is something us vzw model owners need not worry about as our only unlock method involves s-off. Turning the secure flag to off let's you flash anything to any partition as the secure flag is off. You can downgrade when s-off.
Before you completely knock sense ui, I suggest trying done of the heavily modified roms out there like Viper or santod's nusense. Viper Rom has AOSP theming options but you still have the rock solid stability of the Rom being stock based.
I suggest flashing the below sound mod on whichever Rom you choose as it does increase the already great sound quality.

I just tried installing the UNOFFICIAL 12.1 and it worked, why is the 05/19 from Cyanogen causing issues?
I've read posts from other owners of phones with the msm8960 chip that also had issues. The latest nightly may have resolved some of these issues.

The last time MatrixZone updated the Unofficial Cyanongenmod 12.1 was on 05/01. The last update would have been based on nightlies from the day prior to that (or earlier). So, my guess is that there is something in the newer releases that does not agree with your device.
OTOH, in his thread you will find reports of those who have random reboots with MatrixZone's releases for over a month prior to his last release, others never had a reboot with any release; official or unofficial.
I haven't updated my phone in around a year so I'm trying to update to either Android 5 or 6. Whenever I try to update the ROM to anything newer than 4, I get an error with the rom binaries. I read somewhere that this has to do with the Recovery being outdated which makes since as I'm on TWRP 2.8.0. However, I tried to update to TWRP 3.0.0 and then 2.8.4 and both times my phone got stuck in the Recovery boot process. I also read somewhere that this might be due to an outdated firmware. After more reading, I'm confused on how to update the firmware or what I should do to remedy these other problems. I tried to use RUU_M8_UL_K44_SENSE60_ATT_SECURITY_Cingular_US_1.58.502.1_Radio_1.16.21331931.LA11G_20.31A.4145.02L_release_368350_signed_2 to update my phone off of a guide I found, but it failed. Any help or suggestions would be really appreciated.
I have the ATT m8 and I'm running Android 4.4.4 with CyanogenMod 11-20150106-Nightly-m8 and TWRP 2.8.0. Heres the results from running adb getvar all on my phone

I noticed at some point my phone had radio invalid and basically every peripheral had stopped working; no reception, wifi, bluetooth, or camera. I tried oem lock command then to unlock it with the binary downloaded from htcdev. At that point everything besides the external sd card decided to become unmountable and now only the bootloader and TWRP works. Soooooo......... any help would be appreciated
edit: So I flashed stock recovery and did a factory reset This fixed this particular problem so my phone is at least working. then reinstalled TWRP. Unfortunately, I was only able to install 2.8.0 because of the problem described above so I'm back to square one
