[Q] Good rom for my elderly father? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been using Nitrous on his phone with some success but now he's reporting a lot of battery drain in spite of minimal use. Anyone recommend anything else that will be low maintenance and stable enough? I dont see my dad more than every 4-6 months so I want to set it up for him as best I can.
:good: for recs!
Battery life and stability are what I need. All he does is make calls and text.

[Q] How the battery life in stock. 42 Rom?

Anyone on it can advise?
Sent from my LT15i using Tapatalk
I think is better, but maybe it's placebo
Hehe. Placebo a good term to use. I do agree tthat every Rom be it cm or stock, I was hoping for better battery life.
Sent from my LT15i using Tapatalk
you can use supercharger for more battery life
very bad
Folkx, since updated to xxxxx42 stock battery last half the time it used to.
I don't go to details what apps are running, the same have been running before, battery time has just gotten TERRIBLE!
Ideas?

Bring 2.2 kernels for gingerbread please!

What's with the gingerbread kernels? IMO they suck! I try different Roms & slap a chop suey or freedom on it and i get the same results... Battery drain like hell... I only get 4-7 hours depending how much I use it but with a 2.2 froyo rom I can get 13-16 hours with a 2.2 kernel. What gives? No SBC for gingerbread? I like sense but also like aosp because I can use Tiamat 3.3.7 (excellent by the way). Is there a way to remove CIQ from a 2.2 froyo rom? Otherwise I'll stay with aosp.

4-7 hours is about what i got with my evo 4g. my best life was with CyanogenMod and even then it was still like 9 hours at most. also remember to give at least 2 days before jumping to a new rom because it takes a little while for the battery to adjust as well as a full cycle is needed for optimal life. one more thing to mention is its a good idea to wipe battery stats after flashing a new rom to help it get adjusted to the new settings. well i hope this helps you get the best battery life out of your evo and merry christmas!

Poor battery life with juggernaut 5.0 & darkside v1 kernal

its been 3 days since i rooted my phone for the first time due to battery life issues. the first day my phone lasted for 10 hours. after a full discharge and full charge I've been experiencing horrible battery life again on medium usage. only getting 6 hours of battery life. what do you guys think would be the cause of this??? everybody is getting better battery life and mine seems to be horrible still. I don't have any out of the ordinary apps running either. do you think i need a new battery?

just did a battery calibration and still getting poor battery life. suggestions please?

I have never found juggs to be a battery friendly ROM. It's a power ROM. Better for gaming, shooting live video etc. If you want the 15 to 20 hour battery some are getting then switch over to darksides ROM DIGITALWARFARE. It's powerful enough for gaming just not like juggs.
Also usage plays a roll to. If your gaming for 4 stright hours don't expect the phone to last that long because no phone will. Running Juggs with darksides kernal is kinda doesn't mix.

Download 2x battery from the market, it's done wonders for my phone and i use it with any rom i flash. Not to mention i ran that same setup for quite awhile and the maximum time out of a battery i've gotten comes using juggs 5 and v1 darkside kernel.
I'm running Juggernaut 5.0, with Eugene's Streamline kernel. I'm getting about 17hs. I'm also OCD, so I play, and tweak every setting possible. I game a lot, and usually get about 6-8 with that. It depends on a lot of factors though. I agree though, it's kind of an oxymoron to use Darkside kernel with that rom. They kind of clash.....I guess you could say, as far as battery goes anyways. I had the same issue when I used that kernel. Just my experience anyways. There's a lot of setups you could go with, so. Best to just test everything once, till you find your happy place.

i just switched over to synergy kernel for my jugg. been off the charger for about an hour and I've lost 10%. so im on pace to have about 4 hours more than i had with darkside. do you suggest streamline or will he results be similar to what im getting already ?

hey mike what were your results with new kernal ?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
unfourtunately im seeing no results. i got about 6-7 hours still on decent amount of usage. i even went ahead and purchased the extended battery from nexus and im still seeing no improvements! im pretty sure its not a rogue app because i barely use any apps. im even using apps like 2x battery to try to get more juice. anyways i just wiped and installed digital warfare last night. just unplugged my phone at 100% lets see how this goes. ill report back.

what are you using? are you experiencing poor battery life as well?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
Your battery life also depends on a number of other factors as well. Do you have animations on or off? If they are on, turn them off. What brightness is your screen? I turn mine all the way down. How many widgets are you running? I don't use widgets. Is your phone constantly syncing with Facebook, Twitter etc? I only turn my sync on for Gmail and Google. Is your GPS on? I have mine off at all times. Do you stream a lot of music/videos? How many programs do you have running in the background? I make sure everything is closed or off except for the programs that need to be on. If I need to use a program/app I will open it, I don't need it constantly running shortening my battery life. Etc Etc.
I also recommend using the app Juice Defender. Yes it runs in the background at all times, but, it greatly improves battery life. I use it all the time and it's fantastic.
I typically have my phone on for 15-17hrs a day and by the time I go to bed I still have over 50% battery left. I am currently just on a stock ROM and not Juggs, but my results with Juggs were around the same as well, even with the Darkside Kernel. Peace

+1 I don't use juice defender on my device since I am happy with the battery life I get so far. However, I have Juice Defender on my wife's SGS2 with custom settings and her battery life has improved a lot. Before her phone would only last 10-12 hours with moderate use. Now she gets over 20 hours with the same usage.
Use tdjs ROM

I'm using aokp now but I found this to be the best setup for battery for me.
I recommend you try this and see if you still have this issue.
Juggernaut + synergy + juice defender on aggressive mode = awesome battery life.. awesome enough for you to have multiple MiniBaths. :banghead:

I lost 10-15% an hour if im not on Wifi, this phone has terrible batt life when not on wifi. Could that be why?

ROM With Best Battery Life??

Hey guys! I am needing a rom that has REALLY GOOD battery life!! I am leaving out of town to go on a trip that is 17 hours on a bus. So i am needing a really good battery life!
I do the usual turning brightness down and stopping unwanted apps running. I don't prefer Juice Defender or task killers!
I have tested multiple ROMs and they really haven't given me the battery life i want. Mainly CM10 and Slim Bean releases. I am willing to flash and test other ROMs.
Please comment below of ROMs and their battery life.
P.S. I plan on moderate using this: Little Web Browsing, Skype, Some Facebook, A lot Of Texts, Very Little Calls, some Downloads from play store.
Thanks SOOO much
Anything?
CM10 - AOKP Milestone 1 is pretty good!
If you want long life battery i can tell you dont use recurrection remix rom
....................................................................................
Sent from Samsung Galaxy s3- i9300 using Tapatalk
ROM: Recurrection remix 3.1.2
KERNEL: Siyah-1.7rc3+
juggernaut + faux + gideon script = around a day and 3-4 hrs of screen time :good:
Take a good ROM with battery life and set the governer to powersave. You'll save TONS of juice like that. But make sure not to put a heavy load on it or you'll get an RR.

I'm currently using a UNOFFICIAL slim bean rom that claims to have good battery. I did wipe battery stats so i went ahead and tried to drain it (then fully recharge it). i put on netflix and watched a movie with bluetooth, gps, full brightness, and pretty much anything else that would really drain the battery. It took over 5 hours of movies just to get it to go completely dead.
Pretty impressed with this!

Honestly they all seem about the same to me. You may squeeze a little extra out by flashing a custom kernel and playing with settings a bit.

Strong Steves Odex Blue ROM is Great on battery and is very smooth and fast. Give it a try
They all do for the users that run them. No one runs their phone the same as you so you have to try them and see.
"What is the Best" threads are meaningless in that respect.
