I'm generally loving 4.2.2, but there's one issue I've noticed since updating. When I close my smart cover, the screen will usually turn off like it's supposed to do. But every once in a while, it will immediately turn back on at maximum brightness, then turn off properly after a few seconds.
My first thought was it was an app trying to update. But the fact it jumps to maximum brightness makes me think it might be system related. Anyone else having this problem and/or have a solution? Could some variation of this issue be contributing to the power drain some are seeing?

Today, when checking my phone's battery drain (because I suspected something was wrong since it drained about 20% in just 5 hours, beeing in deep sleep) I found that my screen was on for 1.30h.
That was very weird because I have used the phone for little time and couldn't understand why my HOAX reported 1.30h of screen time.
So I made a test. Kept looking at the screen and... voila! I found that it turns on by himself for apparently no reason since I didn't even touched it.
I digged into any opened apps and closed them all but the screen keeps turning on randomly. Even weired, when it turns on, if I press the on/off button to force it beeing off, it turns on again immediately.
What can be causing this behaviour? Anyone with a similar experience that could give an advise?
Thank you a lot
Salomao
The phone trolls u.
But seriously, try with wipe. If it don't work, try Google search.
Hello guys, I just updated my note to the latest DMA6 stock rom as I saw a lot of good reviews regarding battery life.
However, I was just stdading at my desk and as soon as the phone booted up after the flash, I noticed some massive tearing which annoys me as hell. For those who don't know what it is, it feels like the screen refresh rate has been drastically decreased. In order to detect it on most note 2 you can follow these steps (well most of them are working this way, because I have tested this with some other notes):
-- just lower your brightness bellow 30% go into a dark room and keep looking at a fixed point while moving the phone up and down in front of your face, this while having a bright image on it. If you see a flickering image you're a victim too:S
Another way to notice this is looking at your screen trough another (phone) camera...you will notice the old CRT effect of some horizontal lines scrolling up
I had this on my 4.1.1 as well but only till the brightness was at 40%. On 4.1.2 it goes all the way till 80%.
Being pissed to the max, I flashed my 4.1.1 backup and guess what?! Tearing gone at 40%, thus it seems to be an issue with the latest kernel.
For those wondering...yes I have disabled the screen power saving option in the power saving menu.
Has anyone noticed this? Does anyone knows how to fix it?
Cheers
If you mean to say lag then. Factory reset.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I never recall mentioning lag whereas you probably refer as to graphic rendering delay. The phone's interface is acting as it should be, it is as smooth as expected, no issues there.
Perhaps this video will describe better what I mean http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vL_6H-0GD3Q You can see the screen flickering very clear. This is why I mentioned that you can test this in a dark room by moving the phone reproducing the old crt effect
My question is why does the flickering/tearing dissapear on some roms at 40% and on other above 80%?
Everything was fine. I had the brightness set to 60%, which was reasonably bright for me. Retrieved the phone from the table to place a call and realized the screen was looking dim. I thought perhaps I'd accidentally turned on Auto Brightness, but I realized it wasn't the case. I restarted the phone, but the problem still persisted. I did a factory reset; still the same. I reflashed the firmware, but saw no resolution to the issue. Incidentally, after the flash and the subsequent setup, I tried to increase the brightness, but the phone refused to permit it, with a message about some heating issue. I was able to do so several seconds later, however, and while there have been no more "heat" warnings, the phone's brightness hasn't been the same. I seem to have lost about 20%: what I had at 60%, I have the same level of brightness now at 80%. And the maximum brightness, on the same token, isn't the same as it was earlier. I'd appreciate any suggestions. If any of you have faced a similar problem and had a found a solution to it, do let me know.
weird ... Guarantee if still possible.
garanty... you are not alone with this problem, in an other forum a user had the same problem

That's pretty encouraging...or is it? Nevertheless, would've appreciated some solution, but it looks like I'm going to have to make that trip to the service centre.

I saw in a review before i bought mine that if it heats up the brightness of the screen is auto. lowered in order to try to keep a resonable temperture. But nothing about your simptoms. Did you try a different kernel here on the forum or to reflash the stock kernel ?
SOLVED

I've an LG Optimus G too.
It can happen two things:
First, the phone takes down the brightness when the temperature is too high, it happen automatically.
Two: Auto brightness is enabled. Then, the phone uses front camera to see how much ambient light are everytime, then it go up and down.
You're talking about the first case, so charge the battery 100% and then unplug it and let them alone for some minutes in order to leave the temperature going down. Then go to setings, screen, and disable smart screen snd auto brightness.
Try it for some time and send us your experience! =D

There is ambient light sensor near proximity sensor, camera is not used for automatic brightness.
He can disable temperature warning with Optimus G Tweaker which can be found in Play Store.
He must be rooted firs,he can do that easily with framaroot app.
Thanks a lot, everybody. Unfortunately, I've sold my OG and moved on to the Nexus 4. I appreciate your responses, nonetheless. Have a good life ahead!

:good: Thats right, in the opposite of the front camera you can find the proximity sensor and the brightness sensor, if you have eye-recognizement enabled in block screen options, then i think it uses the front camera for both things (brightness and eye-reco.).
Near the front camera it only has notification led.
I'm root, but i dont know if someone want to desable temperature warning... it can be... destructive! LoL
Is there a way to keep the screen from dimming after a period of time? I set it to never turn the screen off while charging, but it still dims while the music app is up when it's charging in the car which is annoying. I can't find the setting anywhere in LG's settings or in tweaksbox.
I tried Lux as others have suggested but it still dims in my truck. Very annoying.
This app has helped for me: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.synetics.stay.alive
My screen doesn't dim ... did you turn off Auto brightness?
What would cause it to dim by itself? I only run at 61% brightness so maybe I haven't experienced this yet
My auto brightness is off and it still dims. Lux auto is on or off and it still dims.

Yup, I always have auto brightness off. It just dims after a minute or so of no input - which happens while I'm driving. I always keep it at 100% unless I'm in the dark which may be why you haven't noticed it - the screen may dim to around 60% anyways. I find it weird that you can't adjust how long it waits to dim, or turn that feature off. I'm guessing this is part of LG trying to help with battery life.

Hmm weird. I wonder if this is the overheating issue I read about

I've only ran into that a couple times and the screen dimmed to 90-95% and I had to manually turn it back up. This is different where it goes bright again as soon as I touch the screen and the dimming is much darker than 90% - more around the 50% ballpark.
Wow, yeah that sounds extreme...
I know it's a pain, but have you considered doing a hard reset to see if it is indeed setting/software related?
If the OP was referring to the "Screen brightness lowered due to high temperature" message.
Go into the hidden menu by typing 3845#*855# (replace 855 with your devices model number, mine is a D855).
Then scroll down to Thermal Daemon Mitigation OFF and make sure it is enabled (on).
Reboot the device and you can now force maximum brightness all the time.

I actually had to get a second phone a week ago because I cracked my screen (a few hours before my protector came in the mail). At least it was early enough that I got a brand new phone through insurance instead of refurbished, but both phones do it. Could be a Sprint vs Verizon difference - Verizon likes to go crazy with phone mods lol. Though I don't normally run into it with normal usage - only when the screen is set to stay on while charging through the developer option and I'm driving with music.
Mine does that. Sprint phone, happens after a minute of no input, including when the screen is set to stay always on. However, I notice this doesn't happen when running Maps.
I've already gone through two phones, same on both.

There are certain apps - and Maps is definitely one - which will not allow the screen to dim or the device to sleep. (YouTube is another for example, also iHeartRadio, etc.) Really the best thing to do is mod using something like Tasker or Stay Alive! as I mentioned in an earlier post for specific apps. I use mine for the Music app since typically I've got mine on the car charger and dash mount and it makes no sense to go through a whole screen unlocking routine to fully operate music after a while.
I got a a70 today and I love it but one issue is very annoying. I like the brightness high(about 80%) and sometimes without a reason the brightness goes down even tho the slider is still at the same level. When the brightness goes down, if I move the slider 50 to 100 there's no difference the brightnes stays the same. After a while it comes back to the good level. It happens a lot when I'm using the phone and charging at the same time, I assume its because the phone is too hot but sometimes it's not that hot and it still happens. Any way to fix that ? The adaptive brightness is off !
When I got the issue, if I reboot the phone, the brightness is okay for the first few seconds and then it goes down so it is most likely a software issue, not a hardware issue.
Thanks for the help.
turn off the adaptive brightness
Make sure you have the latest firmware. There was am issue with brightness on the earlier releases, not sure if it was exactly what you're seeing or not but worth a shot.
Also, don't run the brightness soo high. It's a sure fire way to cause turn-in. I find less than 50 is more than enough unless I'm in direct light
Bug
It's a software bug. I'm on latest fw and brightness is still glitchy. January 2020 and still not fixed.
