Is there a way to keep the screen from dimming after a period of time? I set it to never turn the screen off while charging, but it still dims while the music app is up when it's charging in the car which is annoying. I can't find the setting anywhere in LG's settings or in tweaksbox.
I tried Lux as others have suggested but it still dims in my truck. Very annoying.
This app has helped for me: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.synetics.stay.alive
My screen doesn't dim ... did you turn off Auto brightness?
What would cause it to dim by itself? I only run at 61% brightness so maybe I haven't experienced this yet
My auto brightness is off and it still dims. Lux auto is on or off and it still dims.

Yup, I always have auto brightness off. It just dims after a minute or so of no input - which happens while I'm driving. I always keep it at 100% unless I'm in the dark which may be why you haven't noticed it - the screen may dim to around 60% anyways. I find it weird that you can't adjust how long it waits to dim, or turn that feature off. I'm guessing this is part of LG trying to help with battery life.

I've only ran into that a couple times and the screen dimmed to 90-95% and I had to manually turn it back up. This is different where it goes bright again as soon as I touch the screen and the dimming is much darker than 90% - more around the 50% ballpark.
Wow, yeah that sounds extreme...
I know it's a pain, but have you considered doing a hard reset to see if it is indeed setting/software related?
If the OP was referring to the "Screen brightness lowered due to high temperature" message.
Go into the hidden menu by typing 3845#*855# (replace 855 with your devices model number, mine is a D855).
Then scroll down to Thermal Daemon Mitigation OFF and make sure it is enabled (on).
Reboot the device and you can now force maximum brightness all the time.

I actually had to get a second phone a week ago because I cracked my screen (a few hours before my protector came in the mail). At least it was early enough that I got a brand new phone through insurance instead of refurbished, but both phones do it. Could be a Sprint vs Verizon difference - Verizon likes to go crazy with phone mods lol. Though I don't normally run into it with normal usage - only when the screen is set to stay on while charging through the developer option and I'm driving with music.
Mine does that. Sprint phone, happens after a minute of no input, including when the screen is set to stay always on. However, I notice this doesn't happen when running Maps.
I've already gone through two phones, same on both.

There are certain apps - and Maps is definitely one - which will not allow the screen to dim or the device to sleep. (YouTube is another for example, also iHeartRadio, etc.) Really the best thing to do is mod using something like Tasker or Stay Alive! as I mentioned in an earlier post for specific apps. I use mine for the Music app since typically I've got mine on the car charger and dash mount and it makes no sense to go through a whole screen unlocking routine to fully operate music after a while.

I have an Xperia Play currently on the stock ROM, fully updated.
I noticed that sometimes when playing some games, the screen seems to flicker as if it is changing the brightness settings very rapidly.
I did a Google and could only find a few other people having the same issue.
Is this just a normal thing with auto brightness? Sucks that you can't turn it off...
Cheers
You can turn it off, in the update 2.3.4, the Nordic Generic one, at the mo..works quite well with it off, screen looks a lot brighter(obviously!).
I was always under the assumption that auto brightness ran more battery with it's sensor always being on, at least that's what happened with my last phone.
Did you notice the screen flicker im describing?
Update to 2.3.4 to turn it off, or buy hatcyl's 'disable auto brightness' for .99$..
the auto brightness app requires root so make sure you are rooted before you buy.

Yeah, in exactly the same way, also if the light in the room changed, or you would put the phone in shadow for a second, like when moving it, the sensor seems to go into overdrive.
Hello little birdies.
I am having an issue with my auto-brightness and I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this.
Whenever my auto-brightness shines through the power of the sun (goes to 100%) it seems to get stuck at full brightness and my already not so good screen-on time takes a dip and I always notice this too late . I use the quick settings widget which is preinstalled and the A for auto-brightness is set but when I click it the screen immediately lowers the brightness, while the A for auto-brightness remains, and a vain in my forehead pops.
Furthermore after checking badass battery monitor it shows that my screen is often at 100% sun shadowing brightness. Today it was at full mutated power the whole time. Anyone got an idea as to what could cause this? Anyone?
PS. You might have noticed in the text above that I think the screen is really bright when at full power and that I can see the screen perfectly during a warm ball-soothing sunny day.
Yes, I have a bug with auto brightness too. It seems to deactivate itself. I have activated it a couple of times and everytime it deactivate itself at 100 % after some use.
I have an international HTC One X with the latest 1.29.401.11 update.
Glad to know I'm not the only one. I will soon factory reset my phone to check if it magically gets better.
I noticed this last night. My phone was blindingly bright and I didn't understand why it was set to 100%. I set it back to Auto and so far its still on Auto. i will have to keep an eye on this.
HTC really need to fire the monkeys they have working as coders. I guess if their software is not fixed up in next couple of weeks there might be a whole lot of people, me included, who will migrate to the SIII (given of course that it doesn't have a gazillion bugs as well).
I've been trying all day to recreate the problem but ist not doing it. I put my phone in the sun, I tried using the camera app, I used the video app with its 100% brightness setting, but the phone is still showing Auto brightness.
Any ideas on what triggers 100% brightness?
I have the same problem with mine. It's just randomly turns off auto brightness
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I don't know either what triggers it. It seems to deactivate at either 0 % or 100 %.
I don't have many apps installed, if I just do some web surfing and put it to sleep, when I wake it up the auto brightness is deactivated, in maybe 1 of 4 times. Irritating.
For whatever reason i haven't been getting the auto brightness bug for the past three days. Not sure how it resolved itself since I didn't get any software updates.
If you watch a video you can change the brightness and will stick and not go back to your original settings.

No, that's not the trigger. I investigated that on my phone and found no link.
I take that back. You are right! It seems the brightness setting in the movie play is the culprit. Although it doesn't always do it. One more thing for the chimps at HTC to fix.

Yesterday the auto brightness bug kicked in right before my eyes. I was browsing the web in total darkness in bed, when suddenly I was blinded by 100% brightness. So it's not just the movie player brightness that causes this issue.

Just got the autbrightness bug with the camera app. Everything seems to ****ing set it off now.. :banghead:

Yeah. That's because the camera jacks up brightness for outdoor visibility. They need to have an option to disable that.

I realize that, however it doesn't always do it. Also sometimes it will kick into 100% brightness without using the camera or movie player. It seems completely random to me.
mine is stuck at zero. started this morning and I did record a video actually.
auto just takes it.to zero.
but also, if i change it directly from the srttings menu, its not.effecting at all, just staying at the same previous custom level.
whrn using widget, just turns it to zero.
opened the video player, changed brightness level and its normal now. it was in the middle, the video brightness level
ok just edited this post and its malfunctioning again.. arrrgh!
Try an application that controls autobrightness, it should fix the problem. I would recommend Lux Dash.
So it is the widget, powertoggle.
Once I fix the issue by changing video brightness, it works fone, till I toggle the widget to use auto-brightness.
Several comments on PlayStore also confirms this with several phones.
Just don't use auto brightness from powertoggle. It is actually doffetent.from what OP describes, but.people may come up to this thread while searching, so I think it willbe useful to post here.

Everything was fine. I had the brightness set to 60%, which was reasonably bright for me. Retrieved the phone from the table to place a call and realized the screen was looking dim. I thought perhaps I'd accidentally turned on Auto Brightness, but I realized it wasn't the case. I restarted the phone, but the problem still persisted. I did a factory reset; still the same. I reflashed the firmware, but saw no resolution to the issue. Incidentally, after the flash and the subsequent setup, I tried to increase the brightness, but the phone refused to permit it, with a message about some heating issue. I was able to do so several seconds later, however, and while there have been no more "heat" warnings, the phone's brightness hasn't been the same. I seem to have lost about 20%: what I had at 60%, I have the same level of brightness now at 80%. And the maximum brightness, on the same token, isn't the same as it was earlier. I'd appreciate any suggestions. If any of you have faced a similar problem and had a found a solution to it, do let me know.

I saw in a review before i bought mine that if it heats up the brightness of the screen is auto. lowered in order to try to keep a resonable temperture. But nothing about your simptoms. Did you try a different kernel here on the forum or to reflash the stock kernel ?

I've an LG Optimus G too.
It can happen two things:
First, the phone takes down the brightness when the temperature is too high, it happen automatically.
Two: Auto brightness is enabled. Then, the phone uses front camera to see how much ambient light are everytime, then it go up and down.
You're talking about the first case, so charge the battery 100% and then unplug it and let them alone for some minutes in order to leave the temperature going down. Then go to setings, screen, and disable smart screen snd auto brightness.
Try it for some time and send us your experience! =D

There is ambient light sensor near proximity sensor, camera is not used for automatic brightness.
He can disable temperature warning with Optimus G Tweaker which can be found in Play Store.
He must be rooted firs,he can do that easily with framaroot app.
Thanks a lot, everybody. Unfortunately, I've sold my OG and moved on to the Nexus 4. I appreciate your responses, nonetheless. Have a good life ahead!

:good: Thats right, in the opposite of the front camera you can find the proximity sensor and the brightness sensor, if you have eye-recognizement enabled in block screen options, then i think it uses the front camera for both things (brightness and eye-reco.).
Near the front camera it only has notification led.
I'm root, but i dont know if someone want to desable temperature warning... it can be... destructive! LoL
So I found this one app " Swipify" that lets me keep the watch face on full time. I like it but it drains the battery a bit faster then I would like. Also when charging the watch the round charge progress bar does not advance so I have no idea how charged it is until I take it off the dock. So I un-installed it. I am looking for an app that will let me keep the watch in the dimmed "Ambient mode" full time and then when I lift the watch to look at it, have it to the full watch face mode until I set my arm back down.
Anyone make such a add-on app by chance? :fingers-crossed:
Or should I start learning how to code apps?
Any chance they (moto) will update with such features?
Thanks,
-DK
I'm not sure if such an app exists, but I'm just about 100% sure that Motorola will never add this feature. The current 5.1.1 software version was significantly delayed because they were trying to optimize battery life. I think it's a combination of a small battery and an old, power hungry processor that is the main problem.
I find that since upgrading to 5.1.1 I can go the entire day on one charge in ambient mode but I have to leave the watch sitting flat in order to test it. But by the end of the day I still have 25-25% charge left with it running the entire day in Ambient mode as long as I do not get to many notifications during the day which of course I can control those with no problem.

Huh? What's the point of having a watch if the only way you can get it to work is to lie it on the desk and not touch it, oh and to disable notifications, aka the only thing that makes the "watch" something more than juts a watch?

That is why I am looking for an App similar to Swipify to keep the ambient mode on full time. And I only let it lie flat for a day to test the battery life and it makes it through the day with the screen on full time in ambient mode. So I know the watch is capable of doing what I would want it to use it for.
And I said "as long as I don't get too many notifications", I never said I disabled notifications. I still have those on.

Gocha. No need to be defensive, sorry for the misunderstanding.
Still seems like you'd always be on the hairy edge of running out of battery in a real-world scenario. Hell, I'm ambient mode off but tilt-to-wake on, and some long days I barely make it to the end of the day. Never had luck with even the fake ambient mode the Moto provides.

All good, sorry to come off as defensive. :good::highfive:
Been using it with tilt-to-wake turned off and I am finding that by the end of the day I still have plenty of juice left.
With Ambient on and tilt-to wake off I find I have about 35-40% left at the end of a 7am - 11pm day. That is with receiving some email and text notifications (maybe 15-20) during the day.
I know everyone has different uses and ideas of how to use their Moto 360 so everyone's setting are going to be different, but what I am after is a always on "dimmed" or "ambient" mode with the option to turn on tilt to wake so I could test the battery life both ways. I would also like to use my 360 for home automation control and I I know with "Autowear" it is possible but from the little testing I have done so far it would kill my battery way to fast so perhaps on a future SW that will be something I will be doing.
Pausing and starting Netflix or HBOgo or Plex from my 360 is working pretty good for me as a start.
Think I will try and contact the owner of the Swipify app and see what he can do for me......
With the latest update LCA44B, when ambient is on and tilt is off, the screen will stay on all the time. However with ambient on and tilt on, it is same as previous behavior, screen will turn off when you put your arm by your side.

Anyone else having this issue? Sometimes in well lit indoor environments, it will be dimmer than I expect and then suddenly ramp up to full brightness.
Likewise in dark environments it will be dim and ramp up suddenly as well.
Yeah, I have that aswell, sometimes it's not perfect at all, I hope there will be some optimizations.

I was really happy to see that option in settings. However I was irritated by how erratic it was. Disabled it.

To be honest, I think it's partly a Marshmallow issue, as none of my MM phones have had decent auto brightness

I wish I could agree. My Nexus 6 had great auto brightness on L and M. Never had this type of behavior until the OP3.
Might be because OnePlus has implemented their own content adaptive back light like on the OPO. I turned it off by setting a 0 in the file /sys/devices/virtual/graphics/fb0/cabc
Not sure if that file is there on the OP3 but it's worth a shot

I turned it off in the settings and it was fine. I just wish I could have normally functioning auto brightness lol.
I just got my OP3 and have an issue with adaptive brightness, not sure if this is a behaviour that others have seen or if I have a defective device, perhaps someone could advise? My phone is running 3.2.1 and is fully stock, I have adaptive brightness enabled as I always have on whatever phone I use, when I activate the screen or it turns on at the receipt of a notification the brightness is at the approximate level it should be according to the position of the brightness slider and is perfectly usable. After a few minutes, this varies a bit but never more than five minutes, the screen dims to what I think is the lowest brightness level which during the day makes it difficult to see anything on screen. I can get back the previous brightness setting by turning the screen off and then immediately back on but then after a further few minutes it will dim again. The phone is not responding to any change in the ambient lighting as this is always constant and there is no obstruction to the sensor on the front of the phone. I can get a constant brightness level by turning this setting off but it can be a pain having to manually adjust when I go outdoors for example and this isn't the way I like to use my phone. So, is this a hardware fault or just a very poor implementation of adaptive brightness? I'd appreciate any feedback as this is spoiling what is otherwise a great phone.
Thanks
What should we do for this scenario. Should we raise a complaint or wait for an update. I have my phone in warranty. I am sure all of us would have it in warranty.
I've had issues with that feature since day one with my op3. No update has fixed the adaptive brightness issue, and it's the same with all of the custom ROMs I've tried. Has to be an issue with the phone. I'm hoping a software update fixes it because it's an obvious issue. In dark light, my screen dims so much that I can't really read anything on my screen.
Auto brightness is just bad on the OP3.. I've installed Lux to ease some of the problems but I'd like the standard AB to work correctly and not need an additional app..
