I use miracast all the time. Perfect for whatching video and playing some game.
I use the Nexus 7 2013 with stock rom on my Sony KDL47W805 tv. No dongles or whatever needed, everything works straight out of the box.

I tried it out with the Rocketfish dongle from BB and running CM10.2. Was seeing some pixelation and freezes. In the end, I returned the dongle. It was cool to play with it for a bit but just don't think miracast is ready for prime time.

I have Netgear PTV3000. really cool for everything except gaming. The lag in the game is unacceptable. I tried Rocketfish as well but wasn't happy with the setup and performance and ofcourse the price. Returned it and bought the PTV3000. so far really happy. i wish i could game to but not just yet

Thanks for the reply guys. So it works huh, seems like connection not that good yet but could it be just the dongle? I'm not really looking into playing games on bigger screen although I was hoping so but more likely just watching movies and videos using miracast dongle to a projector or a TV.

Measy A2W Dongle
Anyone tried the Measy A2W Dongle? The prices seems to be very nice (~EUR 35).
They promise Miracast compatibilty but they also say something about HDCP support being a requirement. Does the N7 support HDCP with Miracast? I tried to Google for it but wasn't able to find any information.
That's the dongle I am talking about:

Did you try gaming with a controller or with the onscreen controls? How do you find watching videos? Do you have any stuttering issues like how I showed in this video?

Gaming is a no-no. The latency kills the buzz big time. However, video playing is flawless. It stutters for the first 10 seconds, i guess it tries to stabilize the bandwidth or something, i don't know, but after that its smooth. What i noticed was that when i had kept the PTV3000 on a platform, it was stuttering. It slid off the shelf accidentally and is hung currently (suspended by the HDMI and USB power cable). This is going to sound stupid, but since then the video play back has been flawless. I play youtube, play MXPlayer, 720 p movies. browse the net, watch pictures and everything is great.
Gaming, like I said before, is a no go with rocketfist and PTV3000. These are the only two i have tried so far. Actiontec claims to have come up with an adapter that is supposedly meant for gaming (NVidia Shield kinda endorses), but last I checked it was high priced. I have no plans of trying it unless the prices slash drastically. Maybe someone can try it out and write a review?

I didn't use Miracast for almost 1 month (since September mid). When I tried last week, strangely, the stuttering became way too worse. I was trying to show off Miracast to my Apple fanboy friend, and it would stutter very badly. I was too embarrassed. I tried even hanging the receiver, no change. I don't know what made this change all of a sudden!

This is down to the channel and interference. Grab a computer (not a phone or tablet) and ping your router's IP address for a minimum of 20 pings. If the time is greater than 1ms over WiFi, change the channel and try again until you get it down to 1ms. If you can't get it down to 1ms, then either your drivers are old or you have interference from something else, such as other electrical equipment or reflective surfaces.
Start with other electricals and switch off anything you don't need to be on. Faulty ballasts in lighting fixtures can be common ones to cause interference that you can't easily detect, so try switching lights off. In all rooms, not just the one you are in. Once it works, work backwards to find the faulty device.

@bootx1
I don't know exactly what fixed it, but its working beautifully now. I have been using it for the last 2 weeks. I faced stuttering only twice for less than 2 seconds each time, that too during the initial connection attempt.
The things that I suspect that could have fixed it include
1. I updated to the latest PTV3000 firmware.
2. I had to sent my Nexus 7 for repair due to speaker issues. They might have replaced the motherboard which in turn could have fixed something.
3. Weather changed from 25 degree celsius to less than 5 degrees.
4. My up stair neighbour moved out.
As long as it works the way it is now, I will happily dismiss this as one of another life's mysteries. It works properly even with a case.

So here we go,i juste received measy dongle 3 days ago...
I test miracast,dlna ans airplay :
-miracast : from my nexus 5 its working really good juste a small delay from smartphone to TV but with my nexus 7 its different. Its more laggy and unplaisant to use a lot of flikering during screen changing
- dlna : working really good with 720p mkv and control from bubble upnp
-airplay : working really good
In conclusion : 30€ fortthis , i think its a good deal

What aspects/resolution your using for the TV, just got a Netgear PTv3000 everything works fine, but I get those black bars on the side of the video, how can I adjust to get a wide screen or full screen, I tried different video converters and no luck, tv settings no luck, but with my nexus 5 I get the wide perfect screen thanks

I haven't tried changing resolution with Miracast, but I do it while using Slimport. You can try this approach too, or I will try it out over the weekend and let you know.
Open Terminal Emulator
su
(grant super user)
wm size 1080x1920
(make sure the x is lower case in the above line)
The above script should change the resolution. To reset it back to stock, you can do
wm size reset
You can change the dip by using
wm density <size>
However, i don't change the density when I am doing slimport.
Hope this helps.

Samsung EPL-3PHP HDTV Adapter

Just received EPL-3PHP HDMI adapter from Amazon UK (£23.00) and happy to confirm working with my GT-N8010 with latest UK JB 4.1.2
Is it possible to attach a BT trackball/keyboard without a dongle, or somehow use an other adapter I can attach (possible by a double adapter)
Once connected to my TV the only way to change any input is via the Note.
Thanks

Hi Purchased from Amazon UK (seller was Amazon)http://http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0051D3KKI/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 actual price £23.55 but now looks like Amazon have suspended that item until they review a complaint, suggest you keep an eye on that link.
Surprised No has been able to answer my question regarding BT trackball!!!
If its a BT track ball I would think it will hook up just fine, same way a BT mouse would.
Just to let you know if you are in the UK with a HMV store nearby you can get these for £10. Picked up a couple last week.

Hi which one do you have, how do you connect it to the tablet, I assume its just Bluetooth no dongle, thanks.:good:
Simple the original one:
http://www.amazon.de/PlayStation-Du...HY/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1362585611&sr=8-10
bought it when it was on amazon for 35€ incl. shipping!!! nice deal i thought. I do connect it with the app "sixaxxis" (bluetooth). Requires root though, but pretty nice app. Now i can play all the games of my childhood: zelda (oot, n64), tekken (psx) without the need to install the damn ugly consoles in my living room .. thats just awesome!!
After installing the app I noticed that you can emulate a mouse. That is very useful to me for streaming movies from my server, look something up on imdb and so on with the hdmi adapter...
any more questions? ?

Thanks, not rooted, do not want to go in that direction, so am I correct in assuming you can only connect bt directly to tablet when you root it, otherwise I need a dongle??
So no way of having it connect to bt when using the hdmi adapter, bummer.
Question: Is the HDMI output lag-free, do the homescreens run smooth and is the image quality okay?
I just sent back the wireless allshare adapter because the streamed image has 15FPS when not buffered, the quality is worse than i expected and it ends every multitasking capability of the Note.

Well, keep in mind the ASCD won't mess with the resolution or color depth of the image displayed on the LCD, so if you see video quality issues (bad scaling or graininess or such) it's likely due to what your TV does with the not-quite 720P resolution of the signal from the Note 10.1 (1280x720 isn't a native resolution of most monitors and likely scales it to 1366x768), so I'm betting that the picture via the HDMI hard-wired cable will look the same (on static images) as did the picture from the ASCD.
Got mine here:

New 2013 model of HDTV Adapter?
I'm shopping around for an HDTV Adapter for my GT-N8010 at the moment, and I've noticed that several online shops are advertising a new 2013 model - EPL-NPHPBKG.
e.g. - www dot amazon dot com /Original-Samsung-Genuine-EPL-NPHPBKG-EPL-3PHPBEG/dp/B00B8NJ6E4
They claim that it is the next verson of EPL-3PHPBEG (the model that this thread is about). Does anyone know what the difference is? The only thing I can see that might be an improvement is "Simultaneously charge your Galaxy Note 10.1 while streaming". I've seen reports on other threads about their tablet not charging while plugged in to the HDTV adapter. Can you confirm if this functionality exists on your EPL-3PHP?

Ah. See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166540
Hi,
I dont know the id of my hdtv adapter but as far as i own it since the early days of my previous tab 10.1 (p7500) I am pretty sure it's the "old" one.
I can confirm the adapter is definetly charging my n8000 while connected to my tv behind the docking station (universal samsung), streaming .mkv from my ubuntu desktop / server machine and being controlley by emulated mouse with my ps3 gamepad (via sixaxxis).
Sure you won't win a speed challange with that configuration but the main point is it is charging. I guess about ~ 2..3 % / 0,5..1,0 h (never did a measurement ) but still charging. Thats pretty nice because sometimes when I come home from university and the battery is nearly empty (sometimes 2 days of usage with a single charge) I plug my note into the docking station, let it charge to 3 or 4 %, turn it on and start streaming. When I end the day and shut down the tv the note is at about ~10% and ready to get charged the whole night.

Looks good!
Update, just purchased apple Magic Trackpad looks like it works on my Tablet, No Dongle just Pin number input for connecting, so in theory I will be able to use it to control Note 10.1 whilst connected via HDMI adapter to TV, will confirm when it arrives this week.
Just received my EPL-3PHPBEG from Expansys. It was not the most expensive, but dirt cheap either. It works. It says it is for the Tab 10. The price on this seems to vary wildly with the cheaper ones (19-25$) all seeming to be out of stock, except today went back to Amazon and the Zeeestmm version now seems to be in stock and going for 29.00$
It works for my purpose - Powerpoint and other document projection. It does need to be powered, and the tab needs to be rebooted at least for the projector to recognize it. So it's working fine on my Tab Note 10.1.
What chaps me about Samsung, it the myriad of numbers and letters, all a bit different, but all seeming to be the same item. I thought it was bad with the phones and tabs, but it is beyond annoying with accessories.

Thanks for the reminder. Probably the image will look not better than before. However, it was not a difficult decision why i sent the Allshare Cast Hub back to amazon. For 60€ it's just to much for what it would have been for me. Ending all MultiWindow possibilities is probably the worst part. Well, with the HDMI cable i won't be able to connect USB anymore .. so everything has pros and cons. For what it offers, the wireless adapter was just too expensive and i was really annoyed that it was never remarked on ANY website i read that it ends multitasking features of the Note 10.1.

Miracast for Gaming

I picked up the Rockfish adapter from Best Buy after they dropped the price to $29. It works well and was easy to set up with the Shield, but I'm noticing there's a bit of lag between what shows up on the Shield screen versus the TV screen. For example, pull down the notification window, and you see it happen on the TV slightly after you do on the Shield. The beta switch to improve Miracast for gaming seemed to help a little bit, but the delay is still visible.
Are there any particular adapters that work better? I realize the Rockfish/Best Buy brand isn't exactly known for high performance, but I can see how it would be great for easy media consumption.
Ultimately, I'd like to play games like NOVA 3 on the big screen without a goofy 15' HDMI cable running to my Shield. I love portable gaming, but I'm getting old enough to where tiny screens don't cut the mustard for my eyes the way they used to.
I also wonder which brand miracast adapter that can play the games without any lag but so far i know is all the miracast adapter giving little lag when playing games.
Seems silly but it works,
the best way to have a wireless experience (sort of) with a TV and a Shield is with an Xbox 360 controler.
Get a OTG usb adapter and conect to it the wireless receiver for a xbox 360 and a the controller will work. So now you can have your shield with hdmi cable to the tv and you in your sofa with a xbox wireless controller.

Yeah, it was only on sale for a few days. The price has gone back up since then.
I think some games do better than others. I originally tried NOVA 3 then some emulators, and it was a terrible experience. I tried Bard's Tale from the Android Market just for kicks, and it was actually very good.
Your mileage may vary.
Been using this http://www.actiontec.com/products/63.php for the past few days. Works great, surfing the web, videos, 1 to 1, Shadowgun : deadzone , and gaming in general are all fantastic. There is a minimal lag when playing online death match, I'm talking a hairline of a millisecond. Overall definitely worth the $69. price!

While I love the thought of being able to wirelessly display my shield's content on my 60" screen, all this talk about lag is going to keep me on the side lines for a while. I currently have a 10ft. HDMI calble connect to the Mini HDMI cable plugged into the shield. It works great, zero lag and very little pixelation during game play. I do not think you are going to get a better response while playing games than this setup. I have little to no patience for lag duing gameplay. I would love to be able to go cable free, but it seems everyone is experiencing some sort of lag with their miracast connection.
I think I will wait for the wife to start screaming at me about the cable running across the living room floor, before I break down and buy a miracast adapter for my TV.
Das, go to a tiger direct and buy it.. Can always return it. Or buy online. Trust me, I am VERY picky as well. I have a lot of toys and have this mirrored to a Samsung d8000 55" its flawless. The wire is tacky and holding the shield with that little bit of cord weight is a pain. Get it, then gimme a thumbs up!
And BTW:: Shadowgun : Deadzone I am always top 3 even when mirroring.

I bought the screanbeam pro over the weekend, and I am not a big fan of it. I noticed about a half second lag while doing anything. You also can't stream your pc games using miracast as it uses the wifi signal so you can only stream android games to the tv wirelessly which is a bummer for me. I play more pc games on my shield than android games right now so I really have no use for it.

Fyi, my Note n8010 status is custom with root.
I'm running stock Germany mh2, with Boeffla kernel.
Do you have a link to the exact product? Thanks.

Not really. As shown in the pics in first post,I have one showing both the note and tv with a stop watch app, the lag is around 100ms.
Using MX player hardware mode, video only shows on tv but and subs only showing on note.
Using software mode, video and subs showing on both.
Using stock video player, it automatically becomes DLNA mode instead of mirroring. Good thing is DLNA mode is fullscreen while mirror mode is not.
This is encouraging- I've been able to get the ASCD to work with a rooted kernel but would like an alternate dongle that doesn't cost $80 that I can use on the road with.
So looking around on Amazon I've ordered one of these. (I don't know when I'll get to review it, though- as it must literally be coming via "Slow boat from China" as Amazon estimates I'll get it between 3-6 weeks from now!)

The All-Share Cast Dongle (the Samsung one).
audio/video lag
I have the ASCD and use it with my rooted S4 just fine except for one thing. When I sgare netflix or any video there is a noticeable lag in the audio and when the actors/actresses actually speak so its like a bad old karate movie where the mouths just never match up. Any suggestions as no one else here has reported a lag like this. Thanks

Yeah, two things to try:
- you're going to have to get the ASCD closer to your Note; what you're describing sounds like a low-bitrate connection
- Try a different video player; I haven't tried using NF with the ASCD, but I do know while the Archos Video Player will have that same audio/video sync issue, the Dice Player (for example) doesn't (I think it depends on the output method the App uses).
Can also try to change your home wireless wifi channel to another band. It could simply be interference.
The miracast dongle that I've posted comes in 2 modes: Mirror and AP. AP being DLNA mode which is more stable, you can try mainly for streaming videos.
To switch to DLNA mode, press the button on the dongle. Use Bubbleupnp as a server to stream videos over to the dongle. I have yet to find a solution to external subtitles though.
A check in other DLNA providers in other forums simply say use MKV with embedded subtitles for DLNA solutions. Bugger.
Btw using Note's built in video player will use auto 'DLNA mode' without switching the dongle. Its much smoother than Mxplayer.

Well, it finally showed up * - and while it's tempermental (can take a couple of tries to finally "click"), it does work out-of-the-box with AllShare Cast. I do like the status screen while connecting, too. I haven't tried the DLNA option yet, will review that later. I see the price has gone up, though- I only paid $25 all-in for mine.
* - it arrived at the PO on the 9th, but sat there for 10 more days until I'd looked on the Amazon site wondering where it was and figured out the Post Office for my office (where I'd had it delivered) hadn't tried to resend it (nor left a note) after trying a Saturday delivery.

... and you get what you pay for; the micro-USB connector that powers it up has already shifted loose, so the charger has to be jiggled a bit to make it stay powered up. Ah well, $25
It's easy to disassemble (the case just snaps apart), so I might try re-soldering the connector myself.
So, I kept trying other adaptors. This $30 (on sale) Rocketfish Miracast Receiver from BestBuy didn't work (would connect, but immediately disconnect) but if you can find a Netgear PTV 3000 on sale (I paid $40 for a refurb off an Amazon Store; they're usually ~$80) I'd get one of these- it works even better than the Sammy AllShare Cast Dongle, with better connection reliability (it's got a 5GHz radio, not sure if the ASCD does, but it's gotta help) and due to that seems to have less lag, and less "mushiness" on video.

Do let us know how the Netgear works out. I have changed my home wifi to 5ghz to reduce interference with my 2.4ghz devices but I doubt that is helping much since I am staying in an apartment. On my laptop, I am seeing around 13 of my neighbours wifi.
The miracast that I have works fine in DLNA, but I would really prefer the mirror to be smooth.
I'm probably going to wait to see how the mirroring in Chromecast works out:

Any idea if the PTV3000 is affected by the HDCP issues the ASCD was hit by after the firmware update to ME29? If the PTV3000 can output to legacy non HDCP compliant kit like digital to anlaogue converters feeding a VGA signal to data projectors I reckon I would get one to replace the ASCD with a Cable Matters HDCP stripper.

Question about hooking up to my TV via hdmi and not getting full screen.

Has anyone found a way to hook up their tablet to their TV with full display? I bought an hdmi adapter but it has a black bar on each side not covering the whole TV display. My note 10.1 2013 version didn't have this problem.
I have the same issue and haven't found a solution so far. What makes it worse, it defaults to a 1080i 24hz signal which is very noticeably laggy especially when gaming. And the colors are bad. Makes no sense, the note 10.1 should have 0 issue pushing 1080p/60hz when it does usually alot more than that.
what we need is hdmi options. I also want to be able to turn off the screen of my tablet when it's outputting to the TV.
Exactly!!! I even bought an hdmi cable that plugs into power and it's not charging the tablet at all. I also would love if you could shut the tablet off while doing so. Do you think the samsumg all cast wirele hub is the answer? For now anyway? Correct me if im wrong but doesnt it fix all problems were discussing except the "covering the whole screen" part? Well and slight lag... man this sucks... how is this tablet not as supported as the 1st generation one? Lame...

I did some testing today and it really grinds my gears... I have a 3rd party adapter 5 in 1 (hdmi, usb, sd card, micro sd, micro usb) standard 5 pin mhl and an adapter for 11 pin mhl.
-my wife's galaxy s2 works perfectly with the 5 pin. Outputs full 1080p / 60hz smooth and responsive.
-My sgs3 doesn't work at all with the adapter (4.3 stock), it starts charging but there is no image on the screen.
-my note 10.1 2014 works but it outputs 1080p / 24hz and it has a really bad delay that makes it impossible to play games, and of course 24 fps is laggy as ****. And of course it has black boarders on the side.
I can't believe that there isn't a settings menu for hdmi. Even my old transformer tf201 had one. And you get the best experience with the 4 year old sgs2(running 4.2). Unbelievable.

I've never used a physical adapter so can't really draw one. AllShare Cast works really well on the N10.1-14, a lot faster than my old N10.1-12. Video apps that were barely usable on the '12 are no problem on the '14. I'm not a big gamer so perhaps someone who is and uses AllShare Cast can comment.

Thanks for the info. Does it cover your whole TV screen? I can't really tell in the pics. I don't game on my tablet trying to look at a TV lol I personally think that's kinda dumb. I have a ps3 and games on my tablet that I just play on my tablet.

The TV's got a black frame so it's hard to see. I'd say the picture being mirrored is 100% with some small bars on the sides that are necessary to adjust 16:10 to 16:9. I've noticed nothing distorted in any of the apps/content I've viewed.
PS3
Here's another question, I just hooked my tablet up to my ps3 via bluetooth and it will allow me to share video, pic's, and music. But I have some videos downloaded and put them in that folder where the ps3 is looking for them. I rebooted and the ps3 still does not see the video. its an mp4 so Im not sure if I need to convert it to a different format or what. Anyone have any insight on that? Im still new to the ps3 as I just got it a few months back.
I'm not prepared to pay for another 70-80$ device (that's what allshare costs where i live) to get a good image... This tablet is a highly advanced device and i expect hdmi out to work. As I said it works very well on the 4 year old sgs2 why would it work worse on a 2014 device?

I agree that's a lot more money for something other cheaper devices already do. You go on a still keep your tablet?

EDIT: Never mind. I got it all to work. So I guess thats my work around for now. Im just going to use my ps3 to view the videos I want. Not the ideal solution but it beats spending more money! Hopefully something gets figured out in the mean time. I shouldn't have to rely on a ps3 for this type of thing on such an awesome device.

Wireless display / MHL

Hi,
I have tested Z1C with both Miracast dongle and MHL cable.
MHL cable is so called 5 PIN cable. The same one that works with Galaxy S2 and HTC One X.
MHL Cable works just fine.
I have also tested Miracast dongle (iPazzport). It connects slowly in Miracast mode. Screen and sound gets transferred to TV very slowly. It is basically unusable. The same dongle works just fine with Asus HD7 tablet.
DLNA mode is not usable either for video. At least not for HD content. It can be used for sound transfer. But it has minor problems also with sound only connections. I have tested with the same iPazzport HDMI dongle and WD HDTV Live box.
Please share your experience.
how is the lag for mhl? i heard some phones get quite a bit of lag.
also, what mhl adapter u use?

There is definitely some lag with MHL. I can only express my gut feeling. 50-100 ms, I guess. Is there any good way to measure it?
I am using this adapter:
www.ebay.com/itm/310855110310
I ordered http://www.amazon.com/Decrescent-Adapter-Samsung-Galaxy-Smartphones/dp/B00I5J6WVY
but it will take 2 weeks more to come.
I plan to order the PS3 controller too for gaming on screen, but not sure how it will be with the lag. also not sure if these cheap ps3 controllers will work or i need the original ps3 controller. for wireless of course, not planing to use wired controllers. maybe xbox wireless can work too. testing to come.
For measuring it, the best method is to start the stopwatch and record the TV and the phone's screen with some point and shoot camera, just stop the video later after 10 seconds for example and see the difference between the times.
at least thats what i read around the net ..
MHL lag.
First, tested using timer app in phone. Took pictures containing both mobile and plasma screen.
Out of 13 shots:
0.1 s delay - 9 times
0.2 s delay - 2 times
All the rest, 1 shot had 0.1-0.3 s delay (between TV frames), another had 0 - 0.2 s delay (between TV frames again).
Second test.Used http://vimeo.com/12505989 test video.
My laptop (connected through display port->HDMI) was 100% in sync. Z1C was 2-3 frames late (on 24 fps video).
I would say, it is about 120 ms delay. And it is huge for a cable connection IMHO.
Shame, Sony, shame!!!
My other phone Galaxy S Advance did much better job with DLNA sharing.
Which means that there must be a problem with WiFi (either HW or SW).
I am really disappointed. Way too many problems with a device that was meant to be almost a flagship. I wonder if all those problems also exist with Z1 older brother as well. Or did Sony cut some corners again...
Anyone who could explain why it's necessary to switch wifi off then on again when you activate media sharing (DLNA)?
Say you sit at home, your wifi is on ofc and you like to send a pic or a track to your AVR or TV, then why does it say "please turn on wifi" when you activate media sharing...

Hi. Should it work with any device that has a HDMI input or it has to be with MHL support. Bought Mhl cable from eBay, phone opens Tv launcher but Nothing comes on TV.

Hi All.
I've got a passive mhl cable (no external power needed), this: http://www.delock.de/produkte/G_83297/merkmale.html?setLanguage=un
What should I do with it to use with my Z1C? I connected them, but nothing on the tv screen . I missed something?
