Lte sim card question - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Im currently using my evo 3d on a sprint mvno that supports byop with sprint devices, and im considering getting the gs3 and i dont need to use lte just calling and text and maybe 3g, will i be able just to leave an old sprint sim card in there just so it won't say no sim, or even if I'm not using LTE I'll have to have an active lte sim in there?

The New LTE phones like the gs4, HTC one, and Nexus 5 actually do have an LTE sim card. Older LTE phones have it integrated.

It wouldn't.
It would have a LTE sim card, but it would NOT work with ATT LTE because the two are the same technology but different spectrum. And then there is the gsm Cdma differences for non 4G use. That is why there two different versions of it

Cmon. This has been answered (or just use common sense). Its a CDMA phone locked to Verizon. You can't put in an AT&T SIM, whether its provisioned for LTE or not. It won't work.

[Q] LTE for Sprint

I pre-ordered the phone, should arrive sometime today. My question is about LTE. I live in ATL and is suppose to be one of the first cities to have LTE. If it does indeed work, if I flash to a custom rom when they are available, will we lose LTE? I'm coming from a photon and before that an EVO. On the EVO, I remember CM was just getting 4G to work. On the photon, I lost 4G when flashing a custom. Hope this makes sense to people lol
Thanks

No you won't lose it.
Maybe not
I'm really not sure how LTE is implimented. It could come with a sim card of some kind, not really sure. Maybe someone who knows can chime in.

The reason 4G is a problem on other phones is because those phones use proprietary drivers that the OEMs don't release. Being a Nexus all the source and drivers are available in AOSP so nothing has to be hacked or leaked to make 4G work. One of the many reasons to own a Nexus

T-Mobile / Simple Mobile / Galaxy S3 ?

Until recently I have been with Sprint. And I am located in South Florida.
I am considering going with Simple Mobile as I'm told that T-Mobile has one of the best data speeds in this area. And I want to get a Galaxy S3 as the phone to use with this service.
Can anyone here advise as to whether this would work with Simple Mobile (I called them but they won't say anything only that they don't don't support it - meaning they don't sell it so don't bother them), at what speeds?
I also assume that I must get the T-Mobile version of this phone. That seems quite difficult unless I want to pay a big premium to T-Mobile, who charges much more than say AT&T for their version. So if anyone has any suggestions where I can get one (I would prefer a store, not eBay)?
Thanks
try the xda marketplace
edit: nvm just saw you dont have enough posts.
I read that the Sprint variant of the S3 would work on T-Mobile. You just have to unlock the phone I believe.
Sent from my S3
I remember negri sells the phone for $599 unlocked. That's the cheapest I've seen for the TMobile version. It's not cheaper by much but it's unlocked and you may save on taxes.

Simple Mobile is a Mvno of t-mobile so you don't need to have an unlocked T999. Just change the apn. A's far as speeds. I live in Central Florida and I get the same speeds as t-mobile. I recommended. As far as where to buy the phone. I went to t-mobile and paid $599 for it. Haven't really seen it cheaper.

It does have a sim slot but it's not user accessible.
It's hidden behind the plastic under the battery.
Sprint has taken this approach with all there LTE devices.
The only exception may be the Photon Q since it's touted as being a global device.

Anyone here using Fido LTE?

I can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for. In order to get LTE am I required to have a LTE sim card? Or the proper APN should work?
Fido doesnt have micro sim lte cards. Only standard size which means I need to cut to fit. Furthermore, I get no where calling them. They can't answer one question I have.
Thanks !

You do need an lte sim card.
Fido have micro/nano LTE sim card. http://www.fido.ca/web/page/portal/Fido/SmartCard
You might also need an lte data plan, and the right APN settings.

I finally did get a regular size LTE card... they are RARE but im using a galaxy note and im pulling about 23-25MB/s but It keeps bouncing between that and 4G so I know its in the baby stages but yeah the LTE stuff is all equipment base. If the LTE settings that auto come up doesnt work just delete it and make your own it ltemobile.apn and it should work. I had to do it with mines.
You need both apn set up and the lte sim card. I think a micro lte sim released with iphone 5 launch so you can get that, otherwise, you can buy a regular sim and cut it to fit the micro sim slot.

From fido: Can I use my existing Data add-on for LTE?
Yes, all our existing voice and data plan as well as data add-ons are LTE ready and most of our older data add-on are also LTE ready! This means the only requirements to be able to access LTE are a Fido LTE SIM card, a LTE device and to be within the Fido LTE network.
LTE in Toronto is fully operational, and it works well. They only have standard sizes, like you said and require cut. I'm getting 30-50 mbps down, 10-20 mbps up.

Yeah iphone 5 uses nano sim. Smaller than micro.
I'm also pretty certain that the towers where Rogers has deployed LTE, Fido users will associate to. All Fido phones are connected to Rogers towers, seeing as Rogers owns Fido.

Yes They do now. it's been implemented in august. Just go to a fido retailer that has sim cards make sure it says lte, have them cut to fit (some of them have the sim cutter) as they only have standard size and nano. Pop it in Your unlocked sgs3. go in settings>more settings> mobile networks>access point names and select fido lte.
Don't forget to thank me if that was helpful to you.
No lte
Here's the thing: the fido Site says lte is 2100/2600, but the S3 uses 1700/700 for lte. If fido uses Rogers towers, would it not make sense that they use the networks as well?
When I go to Kanata I had lte on my iphone 5, and now when I bomb around there I'm not getting lte on my s3. I have an lte apn set up the way fido and everyone else has said to, but it's just not coming thru...
Can anyone give me any insight?
Just wanted to link to this post I made in the Fido forums for anyone having trouble getting LTE setup!

ATT Note 2 work on Straight Talk ?

Was at Worst Buy today, they said would price match any online price for the Note 2, plus offer me free insurance if broken, or any issues.
I was gonna get the true international Note 2, but worried if it has issued or warranty problems, it would be much easier to just go back to Best Buy than to have to mail it off, out of the country.
So, that being said, I am on Straight Talk, I hate being raped by the carriers and handcuffed into outdated contract system. Would the ATT Note 2 work on my Straight Talk SIM ? Or does the phone need to be unlocked first ?
I never unlocked a phone before. But I always root and install custom ROM the first day I take phone out of the box. Does rooting a phone, automatically unlock it too ?
And how bout HSPA+ ? Straight Talk doesn't do LTE yet, just HSPA+ I know the ATT Note 2 is LTE, but does it also have HSPA+ too, or just slower 3G ?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
You would have to unlock it, either buy scrounging a code or going to the carrier and asking for one. Rooting doesn't automatically unlock the device. As far as 4G I really dunno, but I'm sure someone will tell you.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
I believe you only need to buy the att version of the straight talk sim. No need to unlock. Then you go on their web site and get the APN.

Thanks, so I am currently using the ATT SIM on Straight Talk. Just pop that in the new Note 2, and it will work right out of the box ?

On my international One X, I am using Straight Talk with the ATT SIM. In the Straight Talk package, there were three sims to choose from. T-Mobile, and two ATT, one regular size, and one micro/mini, which is what I am currently using.

Its already been answered and yes ITS BEEN A LONG time since ive even seen a UMTS on my phone. and also HSPA+ is still 3G.... Straight talk Uses Edge,3G, and 3.5G which is HSPA+
Also if the Note 2 only used LTE then people would not be buying it cause not all AT&T areas are LTE...
I am more than happy with 3.5G HSPA+, plenty fast for my phone needs, I just wasn't sure it was included in the Note 2, for some reason I thought was just standard 3G only and also LTE.
Most the time I am in a WiFi area anyways, at Home or Work Office, so LTE not a deal breaker for me.
Thank you
