I'm planning to buy Note 8.0 N5100. But I'm concern about the audio quality (headphone). How does N5100 audio quality? Is it on par with Note II N7100?

It's audio is decent/ok at most, i'd rather use a headphone amplifier if doing any critical listening.
not saying it bad or anything, just that It doesn't hold it's own to my 3 yr old ipod itouch 3g or the samsung galaxy player 5.0 (tweaked)
it's ok with senn px100, but terrible at driving senn HD280 and few others or even the apple earpods (as compared to other devices, though good enough as a headset). Maybe it could be improved a bit after rooting
However it does use the wolfson WM1811AE DAC so it's likely very close to N7100/S3
thats weird as l have a 2nd generation ipod touch and the audio quality of my note 8 is much nicer and louder than my ipod touch. Now l do use player pro app to listen to my music with the note 8 and have not used the stock music players that came with it. I have those turned off.

Your might be louder as the yours might not have EU restrictions applied to default_gain.conf (in /etc)
I'll tweak it when i decide to root.

Is the sound low? should i purchase a ipod or galaxy S1
I'm definitely not an audio buff, but the jack is good enough for me to not be complaining about quality in both calls and music/podcasts.
I miss voodoo sound.

It's good enough for me. The sound is great with good headphones.
The sound is pretty damn good if you ask me. I have uploaded almost my entire MP3 collection to Amazon, and I use their Cloud Player app to listen to my music. It works well with the built-in volume control that provides extra volume, and ten a little bit of tweaking with the DSPManager makes it wünderbar! I love using my Nexus as my media player.

Coming from the og epic the nexus is a dream for sound. I'm running paranoid android and I can max out my car stereo without any tweaks. I'm very picky for clean sound. So I'm very pleased with the audio out.

Not really, just turn on the EQ as it is off by default and you can really wake it up. The headphones are fine and I can crank it all the way up on the train and the person sitting next to me cannot hear a thing.
I am also pleased with the sound out of the box. I listen with active noise cancelling headphones, in the car, and the headphones that came with the phone. Since mine is rooted I was able to install beats audio drivers and I also played with dsp manager.

I'm quite the opposite, I MISS my old epic with voodoo sound... The GNexus performs good but definitely not to my standards with volume and clarity.
I've always liked Sony headphones, I'm pretty rough on them and frequently loose them so I try not to spend too much.

The stock earphones that comes with the phone are pretty low in terms of sound quality. If you have a good set of IEP then it won't be much of an issue. The sound quality is pretty decent enough. If you don't have a good set of IEP,go for a S4i.
Even I also listen to music atleast for 2-3 hours a day on my iPod Classic. I would prefer an iPod over the phone because of the battery thing. It drains too fast as compared to the iPod,which is quiet obvious.
I've just come from a galaxy S2 and the sound quality out of the headphone jack is miles better. It sounds cleaner, richer, and more balanced (Everything is clear and at a natural volume, from low bass to high treble). I've had iPod nano 3g and 4g and I think it sounds significantly better than both of those too.
The volume is a little louder than the galaxy s2, but still nowhere near as loud as both of the iPod nanos I've had. That said, I rarely find myself listening at maximum volume even on a crowded bus.
I've always used a pair of medium sized/priced seinheiser headphones.
You have nothing to worry about.
Can you tweak the volume buttons so they increase the volume in more small steps? (like the iPhone for example)
Volume+
Hi,
i've ever had good experience with the paid version of Volume+ app.
Speaker Settings
+8 for Simple Volume Boost
+6 for Bass Boost
Headset Settings
+8 for Simple Volume Boost
+6 for Bass Boost
There is no way to boost the in-call volume
By the way in the Franco kernel App there is a patch to increase the volume quality.
Bye
Hello,
i bought earphones : Westone 4R and i would like to know which application i can use to get the best sound quality on my samsung galaxy note 2.
because, it looks like if the quality of the sound is a bit strange.
also who has a westone 4R being used with samsung galaxy note 2 ?
thanks in advance for your advise
regads
sam
I was using Westone 4 with Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note and now Galaxy Note 2 LTE(N7105)
Definitely, N7105 provide the best audio quality out of the box in these three device.
Now my setup is
Perseus kernel
Audio tab
- disable EQ
- enable oversampling
- bypass analog mixer
Music player
Poweramp
- checked direct volume control.
The only audio tweak I use are these.
I don't like DSP at all, like those Beats, Ezio or AC!D.
They might sound good in movies or games but not music.
Often use phase flip or similar technology to make the sound stage wider but also loose the focus and strength.
Or induce some bizarre reverbs to simulate different room, also decrease the overall clarity quite a lot.
So far I like the quality, no WOW factor but doesn't suck.
I guess the bottleneck is the headphone amp.
Afterall it's a mobile phone, not a dedicated music player
Hello,
I'm planning to get this device soon and I wanted to know if anyone knows if it uses a Wolfson DAC like the Note 2. How is the sound quality with a good headset? Thanks in advance.

I checked the audio chip using the z-device test and it does have the wm1811 dac.
Can't say much about Sq since my sennheiser broke.

I'm not an audiophile, so I wouldn't even know where to begin describing or measuring things like soundstage, brightness, etc...
But I have a very capable portable media player in the form of the Open Pandora... This device produces superb sound as the internals were designed and parts chosen by an audiophile.
Using my Sennheiser MX470 buds to compare the same track on both devices...
The Note 8.0 produces decent sound, but i don't know how else to say it... compared to the Pandora, the sound is a bit flat, in other words - i'm not immersed to the same degree as I am with the Pandora - where the sound appears to completely envelope me. Also I can hear more + finer detail with the Pandora...
But keep in mind the Pandora produces better sound than the AudioQuest Dragonfly Dac.
Here is a review of the Pandora's Sound capabilities and all relevant info: http://www.head-fi.org/products/open-pandora/reviews/8570
But I never expected the Note 8.0 to compare. So far, in my limited experience, I haven't come across a single device that can beat the Pandora in the sound department.
All in all I am very pleased with the sound the Note 8.0 produces.
- it's clean, has a good range, plenty of volume, and plenty of detail in the high and low notes. If I didn't own a Pandora, I wouldn't know what I was missing.
Of course we still need a de facto audiophile to come test the sound quality and give the final word...
Thanks for your input guys!

Evening all,
So I'm on the fence at the minute,
Short story I have the option to get the M8 in replacement for my Note 3 with multiple issues
I dont want to wait for S5 because I'm kinda fed up now with Sammy not changing their S series in design or features for that matter.
So anyway can anyone tell me how good the music is through headphones? I know the dual speakers are amazing just haven't been able to test my music through the headphone jack.
I've believe there is no equalizer on the music app? which is no off putting but I do like to mess bout abit with the sound.
any input from owners would be great!!
Cheers . .

I've played music off the SD card, Pandora and TuneIn all sounded good and plenty loud on my gaming head phones and just as well on a pair of $30 ear buds. Very happy with it here.
Cheers for you input I think I will get this as long as store has its stock . Might even try get them throw in the dot case

Just curious but what carrier is allowing you to make that switch. I'm assuming its because you've replaced the Note 3 multiple times via warranty and the issue has not been resolved...
Yeah that's right the note 3 had same issue on two different phones . . It's with phones4u but I'm with EE but essentially it's phones4u that are swapping

The headphone quality is top notch, volume is super loud, very good for headphones, bass is super punchy and clean, highs aren`t grainy, plenty of power, maybe an inline amp?, hiss is minimal, ink black on most, only trace hiss on my silver cable se535`s which is very very very good, considering they would pick up hiss on my one x+ even when the internal amp was off and no music was playing!. Did I mention the bass was good?, because its probably the best i`ve heard, at least on any mobile device.
I'm glad I'm not the only one switching from a note 3. You say punchy bass, is it similar to cyanogenmods bass boost ?

With the bundled headphones, it sounds amazing. Better than any phone I've owned IMO, and I've owned pretty much all of them at one stage or another
GSM Arena did tests and rated it as having the best audio performance of any phone...

Difficult for me to say personally as my headphones have an odd sound signature, have to install an EQ to get them sounding good.

I had a similar problem with the LG G2. First one I had had the treble was waaay too low. Installed an EQ to fix it, and just assumed that's the way it sounded.
Got another G2 two months later and it was fine out of the box.. don't think it had been updated either. Weird.
Maybe try someone else's M8 - yours may be faulty?

Thanks but its definitely the headphones, reviews made the sound signature sound cool but in reality it is unnatural, even though they were very expensive. Had the same problem with the One X but once I installed Poweramp and fiddled with the EQ they sounded great.
Ah OK

Right so just got home with my lovely new M8!
Said goodbye to my note 3 which screen size is the only thing I'm missing so far but that's it.
Audio through headphones errrmm well let's just say I had viper4android on my note and it has been beaten all over ! Fantastic quality! My headphones are only Marley branded ones so nothing high spec but I got lost In the music and just sat there while the phone did all the work!
Very pleased with this phone . . Very pure android compared to other os overlays I've experienced . .

Personally, I don't like to use any kind of equalizer.
If you rip the audio "loselessly"(not in mp4 format, mp3 spoils the quality) from the CD you bought, I think equalizer would be no needed.
As for the phone itself, the build-in music player supports flac file, it should be convenient for us, no conversion needed.:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
My main use for a phone is listening to music while traveling, which I do often for my job. For reference, my Ipod 5.5g with Rockbox sounds the best (volume is great too), then the Note 2 with v4a or a similar mod, then the Ipad air, imo. I would stick with the Ipod, but the battery life is really bad (new battery too), the interface is bland, and I'd like to carry only 1 device.
Can the note 2 approach or equal the sound quality and loudness of the M8 with a headphone amp? Or is the M8 really in a league of it's own?
If you want to listen to music only using headphones then it's not worth changing your note 2. Samsung devices have good audio encoder and when being used with v4a it does great job. Htc has original audio settings included with the os, but it's nothing amazing.
If you would like to listen to audio music on the speakers, then naturally I would recommend you to change it. Htc is just a much faster device, but note 2 has a much better battery life compared to htc.
