I'm running 4.1.2 and I created a folder and copied some texts to it within the messenger. Where is this folder stored? I'm trying to move them to an ad card and onto another phone.

Download a file manager from the play store and search the internal memory as well as the SD card for a folder that might contain the messages.
If you still can't find the backed up messages, then download an app from the play store that backs up messages, there's plenty of them on there.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I can't ever recall being able to create folders and backup/export/import text messages from within the messaging app to the sdcard??
I am stock 4.1.2 and do not see this as an option. Nor have I ever, and I've looked! Only way I know to do this without an sms backup app is to copy the db file from telephony....If I've missed something I would definitely like to know!

I've deleted them with no noticeable effects. I'd like to know what keeps generating them.
Opened up one of those files with a text editor an it seams to be generated by the email app (not sure its gmail or the email one) but they do tend to make going through your internal storage a pain when you scroll through 30 of them >.<
thanks, my internal storage is full of those files (70 aprox.), it may be because i use mail app almost every day
I apparently just deleted 570...
The file is generated by the stock E-mail app and if you remove the plain email and exchange app and download a different one it will rectify the problem

What app do you guys use to back up your contacts? ( I know Google can store them, but I like to have my own backup)
I'm looking for an app that will backup their number and their current contact picture.
I've been using mobile backup 2, but when I go from a ice rom to a jb rom I lose their pictures.

Why do you need an app just export them from your phone and save the file thats it. Then import when you want them back?.... Not for nothing but with the simplicity of Google backing them up I don't think you are going to find people who need to back them up since its kinda useless... Like I said you can simply export/import them manually from your phone

When I export from ics I can never seem to import to jb. That is why I was asking about an app. Call me old fashion I guess lol

The file is the same isn't it also you can import it into regular google. I guess you are and like to make things more difficult for your self than necessary I see as well. My Backup Root will handle it if you feel like you must do it
Contacts are automatically synced with your Gmail account.. There is no easier way to backup your contacts than that!.. As soon as you sign in on your phone your contacts will be there too

Is there any way to get the stock messaging app to automatically change the file name when saving an mms? It promts me every time telling me to rename it or else it will overwrite the last one... Not the end of the world, but incredibly irritating.

No idea, but if you just want a convenient backup of your texts, this one seems them to your gmail. They'll be threaded weird and out of order, but easily searchable.
Oops, I can't post links yet. It's called SMS Backup+, available on the play market.

I do actually use that (and have been for quite awhile) its very handy for lots of reasons. I just like saving all of them to my phone too though.

I have the same problem, you can continue naming each individual picture with numbers you just randomly think of, its rare I repeated the same number. Or download a third party app like Handscent or Go SMS which just downloads the MMS without worrying about a particular designation. Every once in awhile you run across a Touchwiz rom that doesn't have this problem, but its usually a ASOP rom that just downloads MMS without this problem.

That's about what I figured. I used to use handcent but the stock app has made leaps and bounds over the years so I like sticking with that. I've been doing the random letters after going to save it, but in you ef up and do by chance pick something you already used, it will overwrite it.

Any update or solution to this issue? From what I remember my Samsung Epic 4G did not have this problem, as a matter of fact it did exactly what we are trying to get the Galaxy S3 to do by default. I find that this should have not been an issue, why on earth would someone NOT think to make this a basic function/feature?....

You can use Google Voice to have a copy sent to an email. Or use Texter Plus if your sprint and willing to pay 2.99 a month for the service. But you can save reply or delete remotely with Texter Plus.

With Google Voice, you can also route all your SMS through it...making all your texts you send/receive viewable on acomputer real-time....also does some other neat stuff.

Click SMS in the list of folders in your Gmail account. All texts will be backed up and shown on the right. You can import them into your phone whenever, like if you flash a new ROM but want your text history imported. The only limitation is MMS.

So on this MIUI rom, I can't seem to copy a lot of things (like it doesn't even have a copy dialogue when I try to copy a text message that I received). Anyone know of a good app that can copy system wide kinda like copy text from the app store but doesn't use ocr?
