well i rooted and put the android revolution rom on, but noticed some problems so i tried it again using another guide which seemed to work, i then decided to unroot and go back to full stock,(lol i know) because i noticed my actualy sd card memory had gone really low so thats why i wanted to just get rid of rooting and the custom rom really ( lool i probably dont make any sense)
I have tryed the same, i cant go back to locked, it will start up like he said.
I rooted and delete the files like the guide said, stock kernel and then bam, only for development? Now i just go with unlocked.
noooo :s what im trying to say is, i cant reboot the phone,it goes into boot loader everytime, just before bootloader the htc splashscreen shows up and a message in red writing stating something like "this build is for development purposes only.." and then goes into bootloader, is it something to do with low battery?
Update: now my phone doesnt even turn on i think its all over

this happens when you have a custom rom/kernel/recovery installed. Go to fastboot mode and unlock your bootloader again with fastboot oem unlock_token **** < - your unlock code.

Hello i have the tc one x and i have alot of problems. when i first bought the phone i rooted it and i was happy. i downloaded root apps and i was set. then i wanted to start flashing roms. so i downloaded a custom rom on my computer, followed all the instructions carefully and it did not work. i had installed clockworkmod and the whole 9 yards. When i would try to boot into recovery mode i would get a security warning and i was not allowed to. i tried many tutorials to install it on to my phone using my computer and command prompt and things like that but that did not work. So i came to the conclusion that i did not unlock my bootloader. so i went through the whole process on htcdev.com and my key was invalid. i had gotten the error 160 and mid not allowed. now i wanted to completely restore and unroot so i deleted superuser and the su files and did the whole thing with fastboot files and command prompt using a video to help me through it. When i was done my phone still said tampred on the bootloader and i got the same security warning error when i tried to restore the phone. so i cannot restore my phone to stock. now my phone cannot recieve att updates and when i try to manually update it is says htcdm has stopped and then after the button does nothing. and many apps stop unexspectedly and i am very upset about this. i have tried unrooting and unlocking bootloader at least 10 times now and nothing works!! PLEASE HELP!!! i really dont want do have to sell my phone and save up for a new one. thank you.

Yup.
First, your not clear with what you actually did.
IS your Phone the AT&T version? If YES, then this is the wrong forum.
Also all you need to do to get a custom ROM running is this.. (in the respective order ) -
1- Unlock using HTC. Your error is probably because you did not clearly read on how to copy the UID part. even one extra character here or there can generate an invalid key.
Follow the instructions to the letter.
2- Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery using fastboot.
3- Before flashing the ROM, from CWM, make a backup of the stock ROM, by going to Backup and Restore - Backup.
4- Wipe Date/Factory reset option in the recovery. Then Goto Mounts section and format /system.
5- Now flash your ROM from the sdcard.
6- PROFIT?
If you are not confident enough to follow each and every instruction to the letter, then flashing custom ROM's is not for you.
From your post i can clearly see that you find the whole process a little too cumbersome. I can be wrong. But please at least be clear what you exactly did. Which ROM did you try to flash? And how did you go back to stock? Which RUU did you use? Was it the correct one?
If your HBOOT says ***LOCKED*** or ***RELOCKED*** then run an RUU and it will remove all warnings, and put your phone back to it's factory state.

Boot into bootloader then go into fastboot and run the ruu that's all but sure thing before doing this u have to flash the stock recovery and kernel and lock bootloader
Y U WANNA KNOW FROM WHERE SENT??
Just download one and run it, dead easy.
But he has to return the recovery and kernel and lock bootloader first

His post is so disjointed it's impossible to figure out the state of his bootloader (hence mentioning it), but you don't need to replace kernel and recovery, that's the point of the RUU.

Dude becareful if its saying security warning then your battery is very low, becareful because if the phone drains completely while using ruu the phone would get hard bricked also u can't select ruu you just have to go into fastboot

Before you do more damage, let's figure out what device you have, which forum you need to ask questions in, and what procedures you need to follow.

Right, well, I'm not sure what you've done to it, but this is the wrong sub forum.
If it is an AT&T phone, htcdev won't work.
Best bet is to visit the ONE XL forum. And post what you problems you have, and then what you tried to do before arriving where you are now.
Word of advice, your first post in this thread was awful. It's too long, too confusing and unreadable. Try to cut out as much as you can. I don't care how many yards, that you got instructions from a video, and that the video was hosted on YouTube. Just list what you did to the phone. Use spaces (including vertical spaces), punctuation and bullet points to good effect. End of the day, you want as wide an audience as possible.
Good luck.
I seriously hate this phone, everyone says it's the easiest to root, but I just can't seem to get this **** to work! Well first, I unlocked the phone, then went onto rooting it...Well that never worked, so then I tried installing a ClockWorkMod Recovery and everytime I tried to enter Recovery, it always brought me to a white screen with words in the red " This Build is for development purposes only Do not distribute outside of the HTC without HTC's written permission. Failure to comply may lead to legal actions. "
But my phone still worked, just no root or recovery. So I decided to install a custom kernal, well I did that and now my phone, I'm assuming, is in a semi-brick mode. So I can't start it to work, but I can access Bootloader. But I have serously tried everything! I even tried unbricking it and relocking it with this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674226
Nothing works, and this is starting to get aggravating.
I have rooted many phones, and this one is by far the worst.

It's a PrimoC and it's unlocked. Virgin Mobile
For PrimoC, make sure you use the right superboot to root it. The situation that you desccribed is showing that you use the wrong superboot.
Same for recovery, you need the correct recovery for PrimoC
See : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749798 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764183
Same goes for the kernel (boot.img), only use the one meant for PrimoC.

In that case it should go away if you revert to stock and switch it back to S-ON or look here, but there is currently nothing you can do if you're on the latest WWE firmware as there hasn't been a custom aboot made for it.

This stupid, ugly error message is due to a non-stock kernel. As long as you're running a stock kernel, this shouldnt show up (atleast for me). I am currently running Viper10 2.7.0 and it doesnt show that message on startup. Now, if i go and flash elementalx kernel, that message will be displayed. The way to get rid of this is to either download a modified aboot image or modify it yourself via hex editor. There are simple instructions on how to do this for the htc m9, here on XDA. I dont have a link, but a quick search should be able to find it. Another thing you can do is download a modified aboot image from the link in the previous post and download the corresponding stock aboot image of the same version and use a program like "Beyond Compare" to load up both files and do a side by side comparison. It will show you exactly what was modified. Basically it comes down to just erasing the message in a hex editor and reflashing. Please exercise EXTREME CAUTION if choosing to do this. Aboot is a CRITICAL partiton which contains the bootloader. I would imagine if aboot gets flashed improperly or is hex edited incorrectly, the device is toast. Good luck!

What causes this and why doesnt the errormessage explain itself?

Did I say anything about that? You assumed that and simply insulted me.
Of course I know how to get there. I did that several times for installing and trying out stuff. But how should I know that I can simply go there and apply the update by selecting it and chosing install. I asked for that information and you didnt gave it to me, instead you where insultive. Had a bad day or what?
can you boot in Recovery via adb (adb reboot recovery)
Have same issue. The other day I tried to go from viperone 3.5, s off, unlocked/rooted, twrp installed 3.0.
After the installation attempt using clean install, got stuck in a bootloop. Finally was able to install a stock rom 5.0 using ruu. S off, unlocked
Now I cannot log into recovery.. I get that splsh screen with red waning text below but the top section in red says cannot load recovery. I tried a few reasons over the last few days, trying fastboot/adb but can not load twrp. Tried everything from 2.8xxx to 3.xxx.
cid is 11111111.
Also tried some other ruu's but says its not for my device, but it is. Unlocked, m9, hima
scratching my head here, I must be missing something

If had read anything to do with installing ANY rom it will have detailed instructions on how to install it, usually it will tell you how to get to recovery too. Even if it doesn't tell you how to get to recovery it is a google search away.
Spoon feeding is a no-no. You must try to solve issues yourself before asking and refer to the forum for "obtuse" issues.
As for the detailed output of why it failed, usually you get some sort of error code or phrase as to why. If not then you have to start looking into logcat. You will notice that it failed to boot to recovery so manually doing it will resolve that, then you just follow whatever guide you were using after that step..
I understand that things can get overwhelming when flashing devices but it is all part of the learning curve and knowing how to navigate your device is essential before even considering changing anything.
Further more, I didn't insult you. I didn't intend to. It was an honest opinion because if you don't do the basics you WILL "become a cropper", you'll probably brick your device.
Back to basics is my advice before you proceed to mess with ANY device.

Yup, missing the cid is supercid. No longer valid. Cid and mid must match the firmware you're trying to install.
The bigger issue is not being able to get to recovery at all... Will it go to download mode?.

No honestly, I re read everything and t is right there, no question and it is appreciated. I was just concentrating on how to get back to a version of TWRP. Finally I was able to do that and still unlocked, S Off and have a TWRP 2.7 but every time I try to go higher I get the cannot boot recovery in the red letters. My bottom line was to install a 7.1.x rom. That is what caused all my original issue, tried to update into 7.1.1 RR Rom and everything crashed. I used a RUU you have in that thread (THANK YOU) and was able to get out of bootloop on RR bootanimation. I am running on stock 5.x, rooted as well.
Is there anyway to still move forward? Do I need to change the CID to match the firmware I choose within the device choices?
Thanks for all your earlier posts and it has become invaluable and thanks for any advice going forward.: good:
TWRP versions above 3.x require your M9 to be at least using firmware 3.x. The same applies to android 6/7 based roms. Either restore the correct CID for your SKU, flash the latest available 3.x RUU for that SKU and then install all missing updates via the software update function of the stock rom or restore the correct CID and look for a full-wipe firmware pack in Sneakyghost's firmware thread (located in the development section). Be aware that his packs don't contain a rom but that shouldn't be a problem at all if you want to install RR, anyway.
