anyone own this phone that have small hands, did you regret it? does it sucks? describe.
I have the smallest hands out of anyone I've ever met in my life. Probably due to a wrist injury I had back in middle school, and how I had my fingers numbed to punching hard-objects by elementary school, my hands are just small(but strong ). I've had the Note 2 since release date until a month ago when I sold it, and it worked perfectly. The Note 3 seemed to be just the same. While the screen is bigger, the pleather-back really improves grip while holding the device. Texting on portrait mode with 2 thumbs is the absolute best thing ever. It is the perfect size. The perfect size. If I switch it to land-scape, it'll be too wide to use effectively imo. All in all, it depends on your usage style. I'm more of a 1 1/2 hand type of guy. I usually use two hands, but only because it is faster that way. Even though for September I was using a temporary 3.5 inch android replacement phone after I sold my note 2, I still used that with two hands. It was easily small enough for me to one-hand it all the way, but I usually never did. It is slower and less convenient imo. Sure for normal use, you'll be very comfortable with this phone. For moments where you absolutely only have one-hand, Samsung has included an awesome feature that pretty much allows you to gesture and shrink the screen. This works amazingly well and helps when I'm doing something with my other hand. I do warn you of one thing though. Once you go big, you'll never go back. You won't be able to live without the screen estate and the tablet-like experience you get with movies, web, and games. It doesn't help either that the screen on this most is arguably the best of any phone in history(according to Displaymate testing).
I'm a 5 foot tall girl & my hands are pretty tiny, but I can manage it. I had the Note & the Note 2 before this so maybe I'm just used to big screens but I don't have any trouble. I can't text one-handed on it, but that doesn't really bother me. Texting two-handed on this phone is absolutely GLORIOUS- accuracy is unbeatable & each thumb covers exactly half the keyboard, there's no reaching or cramping like with smaller screens.

If you don't want to attach it directly to the phone. Then put a tpu (thermopolyurethane) case on the note 3 and stick it to that instead.
I have been using one for over 4 months now and it works great.:good:

Those are huge hands or that's a small phone
There's a lot of one handed operation features in this phone (dialer, messaging and calculator) so it's not a problem for me ..my favorite is shrinking the sceen with gesture feature and you can size it bigger whatever is more comfortable for you .. it's awesome !!!

It's a 4.8" Galaxy S3, so average-sized hands.
---------- Post added at 11:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:29 PM ----------
BTW - a lot of people have no idea how large or small their hands are, so, go measure 'em to get an idea and compare against the average (for each sex). Measure from the base of your palm to the end of your middle finger.
```The average length of an adult male hand is 189 mm, while the average length of an adult female hand is 172 mm. The average hand breadth for adult males and females is 84 and 74 mm respectively.'''
Thoughts?
"it's dangerously close to a tablet"
Hardly. It's not even that much bigger than my GFs MT4G and about the same size as my GalaxyS2.
I dunno. I have small hands anyway. The Nexus One seemed a good fit. The jump to get G2x had me a little off... but I got used to it.
Now I juggle the phone on my fingers and palm. Kinda weird but works well. The Nexus pushes my thumb reach even using it this way. Anything bigger and I'll be double fisting it.
Since I have smaller hands, I conformed earlier. I think people with larger hands are having to go through that now with the nexus.
I wouldn't say its too big, but will probably change up a few things.
LTE Google Galaxy Nexus! - Stock
Asus Transformer - OC/UV
Hardly. Its a big phone but still not that much larger then my old Thunderbolt. Maybe he should play with the Note for a little bit to get an idea of a phone flirting with tablet territory.
4" does seem to be the ideal one handed phone for everybody. the atrix still feels good in my hand. i do have a hard time one handed sometimes but actually my bigger problem is the next phone. will i settle for something smaller after such a nice screen. probably not. i do like what samsung did to the hd screen. it looks a looooot better than the plus screens. up until now, amoled has been oversaturated with the colors. this screen is great. and still has the nice contrast and pop because of the deep black.
Yes. I think it's a bit too big. The rezound fits my hand better.
But that's the price you pay for freedom.
I'm 6" with pretty big hands, and i can hit the Q in portrait mode with the middle of my thumb. (right handed) So for people with smaller hands, they should still have no problem reaching any of the letters in portrait mode.
I think its the perfect size overall. The device itself is only a tad longer than a Bionic, (about a half a mm or a mm) the same width, and thinner. I really don't see what anyone is complaining about.
Due to the rounded corners it's a hell of a lot easier to use with one hand than my RAZR.
it depends on the person's size. i'm 6' 5" and have big hands. this Nexus' still feels like it's a bit too small for me. i look forward to the 5"+ phones.
For me the SGS2 felt bigger. I can reach stuff much easier on the GN
I think that the nexus is ok for people with above average sized hands, but really, if your hands are too small for the GNEX, then they are too small for most of the 4.3" devices out there right now anyways:
Here is a comparison between the GNEX and the DroidX (4.3"). There really isnt that much of a difference.
Here are the two phones in my hand how one might hold them. There is again minimal difference. Basically, this says that if you can use a 4.3" phone, which has become the defacto size for android super phones, then you can just as easily use the GNEX's huge 4.65" display.
The GNEX:
and the DX:
(Note that I am 6' 3" and the diagonal of my hand is about 9.5", so the usability will be better or worse depending on how big you are.)
Edited: I hate Box.com. And I wont every try to venture away from the comfort of Dropbox again for cloud storage.
My previous phone was a Galaxy S. I do think that was the perfect size for my hands. Although i still couldnt stand the hardware buttons on that phone and the gsm nexus doesnt feel any heavier and seems thinner. But after you get use to the gnexus screen the gs seems so little. Even my wife's iphone 4 seems tiny now.
No problems using it, but would you prefer it to be smaller? Or do you like this size better now that you're used to it?
Seems a fine size to me.
I have rather large hands (glove size 8.5) and my opinion is: the GN is on the far end of "large". This is probably the maximum size a smartphone can have and still be (relatively) easily operated with one hand. For smaller hands it already is too large.
Galaxy Nexus is just under the "to-big-for-human-hans-limit" if you ask me.
The Galaxy Note on the other hand, is to big.
i don't have an issue with the size using it, i have an issue with the size of it + a holster and just putting it into and taking it out of said holster. I liked the nexus one (OGdroid before that, and a myriad of smaller phones before that) i was coming from but was ready for something a little bigger. a little smaller would have been nice since i keep it on my belt, but i like the big screen when i'm using it.
i got the leather case from vzw, but i'll be heading out tomorrow to try to find a nylon one that hopefully will fit the phone but be a smaller total package.
I noticed the other day when I was playing n64oid and fpse with sixaxis contoller app using MHL to HD adpater. Since the phone is charging and displaying on the tv as well as running 2 apps it gets pretty hot.
So I started looking for a portable fan that i could set behind my phone why using the kickstand on the case to blow some cool air on it. As well as keep me cool
I finally found the smallest fan ever and has really good reviews.
(click picture for where to buy)
I will update this with how it works when I get it...if it doesn't work that well then I will still use it as a portable fan.
Yes I know you can underclock but you don't want to when you are playing emulators that need lots of power!!!
Yes you can kill apps but never liked doing that....
Just thought I share in case someone had the same thought I did.
I don't think a tiny little fan could really cool down your phone too much, nor keep you cool.
I found a flat heatsink that could possibly be made into a back cover, but we would ideally still need some way to solidly connect it to the hot parts of the SoC. It would involve breaching the plastic "firewall" of the housing, and replacing it with a short section of copper plate (i.e. a penny). Using a little thermal compound would make it even more effective at removing heat.
Can you picture this with a cutout for the camera pod?
On the liquid cooling front, I found some USB powered water pumps and cooling block.... If your Gnex is getting this hot, you might have a problem.
Hold the phone! This is much closer to the size we need. Peltier coolers work on thermocouple effect. It might use a little power, but will actually reduce temperature on one side, by a few degrees!
You could buy a mini fridge, then drill a hole in the front for wires:silly:
You can then also have cold drinks whilst playing your n64 games
Hi guys,
I'm coming back to the Android world and I can't seem to be able to decide on which device to buy, the SGS3 or the Note2...
So give me a hand here. If you owned an S3 and went to Note 2, how was the transition?
I never liked the Note 1, too bulky and square... But it seems the Note 2 is quite something from the features, performance and design point of view.
Furthermore, I want to understand how would such a device go with a business casual/suit&tie dress code.
Looking forward to your comments.
Cheers!
I came from s3, note seems very big at start. U will get used to it. But after a couple a weeks I realize that the note 2 is just too big. It's very similar to s3 but has better battery and bigger screen which seems not as sharp as the s3. I found the s3 more easy to handle with one hand. And it feels very light and small coming from a note 2 after 2 weeks.
Hard choice. Still don't know which one i will keep.
Are you a jeans person or a suit one? Not trying to get too deep into your clothing preferences, just want to understand how does the note fit your day to day activities.
I personally must abide a business casual dress code and sometimes wearing a suit 2-3 days a week is necessary. Not sure how a Note 2 would go with that...
If you wait until Thursday I can pose for a photo with my Note II, wearing a suit... :laugh:
I think it looks very business-y and clean. Of course if you wrap it in a leather flip case of some sort it will look extremely professional... As long as you don't put a pink glittery case on it I doubt your colleagues will be talking trash about your Note looking out of place!
I use a suit to work, it fits nice in my pants. Only thing is when i go in and out of cars the note 2 falls out sometimes. It's very annoying. And when I'm going to quicksend a message and take it quick out my pants i almost drops it. I have relative big hands. Pretty hard choice between s3 and note 2. I must decide before Wednesday one of them are going back
Thanks for the replies guys, really appreciated!
From what you're telling me, it is quite a sleek device even for business but slightly hard to manage when getting out of a car and pulling out of the pocket.
Now, you did mention that the display looks a little less crisp on the Note 2. That would be strange in my opinion because the Note 2 display uses 3 sub-pixels per pixel and even if the pixel density is lower, it should still look as good if not even better than SGS3.
Nevertheless, does the "one hand operation mode" really make it easier to use one hand with this device? Or is it just a marketing thing?
In my opinion the Display of the Note 2 is sharper. The display of the S3 is quite good, better than awaited for a pentile.
The one hand option positions the keyboard more to the left or right side, it is better to type with this option. But I am not able to access the whole screen (for example smileys at WhatsApp). But at S3 it's also hard for me to reach the smileys with one hand.
Can't decide whether to keep the note or get and S3 additionally and then decide what to do.
Hi. I'm taking up my mba and law degree and also work at a place where we need to dress in formal wear. The note 2 fits in perfectly as long as you get titanium Gray. It's very elegant and sleek. I also suggest getting the official flip cover. Got many compliments already as people think it's a smart looking phone.
Regarding one handed usage, the one handed keyboard etc really helps in operating it using one hand.
The Titanium Grey version seems to be more dress code-friendly...more subtle-looking than the Marble White, definitely.
It took me a couple days to get use to.
The right case makes a big difference on how it feels in hand.
I wont be going back to smaller size device that's f,sure.
To hold it in one hand, I support it with my pinky from the bottom so I can reach the bottom of the phone to type. It mostly gives cramps to my hand but not a big deal. I had the same issue with my sgs2.
But 2 handed operation is excellent.
Actually I got used to this phone's size so fast that I started to feel the screen is still small. so I grabbed my sgs2 and played it a while. I felt amazed again to hold my note2
This is why I'm trying to avoid the candyshell hard cases or forget the otter box. I want something as slim as the device and still offer decent protection. I'm hoping the seidio surface does the job and hardly adds size. I ordered one last night.
But this felt more significant for some reason than my jump from DROID X to Galaxy Nexus if you could believe it. What about you guys?
"It's beautiful. . ."
Lol. I wasn't as excited as y'all. I hate the chrome and T-Mobile stamp on back. Waiting to get an OEM Samsung wireless charge battery cover. And trying to figure out how I want to rub the chrome off and gloss it to a semi gloss black because I am sure the black underneath is flat. And I didn't get excited as y'all til about 3 days after I got my phone. Started to really enjoy the intensity then.
My first thought was
"It's not that big"
Reviews make this thing seem like it is a lunch tray, but I can hold it in one hand just fine.
Lol that was my first thought too.
My second thought was "Ok, I'm sold."
My firs thought was HURRRY THE HELL UP WITH MY NEW PHONE. lol. Never less than an hour per trip to a tmobile store. Love the phone though.
"How long will it be until I can get cyanogenmod on this?"
Just give me the damn phone and quit trying to make me switch to T-Mobile service
I like the s pen too much to mod it.
I thought it was gonna be too big coming from a GS4 but after playing w it for 30 mins it does not feel any bigger and I have been fully satisfied w the Note 3.
Man, that's expensive! In reference to TMo wanting over $800 for it for prepaid. I then made the mistake of attempting Negri, wasted two perfectly fine weeks, cancelled, and bought a white one on Swappa after all the black ones were gone. I love the design, it's an excellent phone, but T-Mo has some awful pricing and I wasn't paying over $100 extra to walk out of the store with it. My only disappointment is that the black one has a leather feel and the white is hard plastic. Was it really that hard to make white fake leather textured plastic? I really want to find where I can buy a black backplate just for the texture, still love the look of the white model. Also, the camera bump annoys me since 90% of my use is browsing with the phone laying flat on a table.
I thought the phone looked boring, I was more in awe at the function of it over fashion though. But it's a huge plus that they thinned the side bezels, and that it felt better to hold in the hands than the Note 2. Screen was also sharper and bigger.
Coming from the S4 "wow thats huge" and that's the first time ever my wife said to me when I took it home.
Sent from my Note the Third.
My first thought when I took the phone out of the box, "Wow, this REALLY DOES FEEL like leather!" (I have the black one btw)
Second thought after playing with some YouTube vids, "This speaker is really not bad at all, very loud and clear...I dunno what those complaining fools on XDA were smokin.."
Third, "Hey this amazing screen looks almost like an IPS LCD! Wowsers! No hint of pentile matrix and super bright, a big step up from even the Note 2's display"
Fourth, "Wow there is literally no lag or microstuttering, unlike my POS Galaxy S4." "I love this phone!"
Those were my initial impressions.
