I wanted to go back to stock to update via OTA, but i don't know how to do this... i'm on 1.28 custom rom.
I have to: download 1.28 stock rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546970 or here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1606676
Then i have to flash boot.img from the firmware package and flash the stock rom from recovery.
Then i can update to 1.29
Is that correct or I'll fall in errors?

have you got a back up of your stock rom that came with the phone?
Obviously not.
I was looking at the RUU thread and I saw that we have the 1.29 update for Europe. How can I apply it on my custom 1.28 rom?
Re-lock bootloader, flash stock recovery.IMG file from 1.29 firmware and then?
Please don't Terminate me

Great, now I can do it. Thanks a lot from all the xda noobs
hello i have htc one x with custom rom and custom recovery
hboot version -1.23
cid number : J_15
i want back to stock rom
how?
Restore your nandroid backup
Flash boot.img (from nandroid)
Flash stock recovery for 2.17 based roms (search @ xda)
You are back on stock.
On hboot 1.23 you can't revert to stock as there are no ruu's available to flash. The highest hboot that can still be flashed back to stock via ruu is 1.12. You will have to wait until an ruu is released with a higher hboot for your region. Once the official JB OTA is released for your cid, you can update the hboot to the latest version and then get some kind soul to upload a backup of their stock rom until the ruu's are released.

Well, you can flash a 2.17.401 backup (ROM, boot.img and recovery), and then relock. At that point, you have an entire software stack that is signed by HTC, so, close enough to stock. An RUU isn't some king of voodoo magic.

I'm aware of that mate and you're right, it's close enough, but then he did ask to go back to stock and not close to stock
Hi!
I'm going back to stock, everything.
CID 621
I have stock ROM ready: 3.14.709.20 CID HTC__621
From http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975140
But I need to flash stock recovery.
I can only find one stock recovery that matches the ROM - HTC__621 (3.14.709.20) hboot 1.36
http://d-h.st/users/ClydeB1/?fld_id=8386#files
My phone is on hboot 1.33, should I flash that?
Am I going get official updates and install them in the future? (I'm going to sell the phone :/)
I thought I could upgrade my hboot to 1.36. But I don't see hboot 1.36 version to upgrade for my phone either

You need to restore the nandroid backup, including flashing the boot.img from that nandroid ....
Then you flash back this recovery
http://db.tt/C1SWP2ZJ
Then you are ready to update with official ota's.

So the hboot version of the phone and the recovery dont have to be compatible?
The stock recovery has to match the software main version. So you are restoring a 3.14 nandroid then you also need a 3.14 stock recovery

This is the one you need.
My HOX is with CID HTC_044.
HBOOT-1.36.0000
I have been using it with ViperX ROM.
Now I returned to Stock by running 3.14.707.24 RUU, waiting for 4.18.401.2 OTA
Now I want to taste the Sense 5 from those custom ROMs available out there.
I'd like to know whether I can still go back to Stock 3.14 ROM from the 4.18 custom ROMs by running 3.14 RUU.
And flashing 4.18 custom RUU will upgrade my hboot version or not...?
Sorry for noob questions
Not sure if you can downgrade using RUU after you have installed Sense 5 based custom rom.
This is what you should do
Your phone is now running 4.1.1 with Sense 4+
Unlock bootloader from htc dev
install custom recovery
take a nandroid back-up ( make two back-ups just to be sure) - Make a copy on local PC or cloud
flash Sense 5 based ROM and enjoy
when htc rolls official update
find firmware.zip file for your CID from mike1986's post in android development section
extract boot.img and recovery.img from the zip file
boot phone into recovery
restore your nandroid back-up for Sense 4.1.1 & Sense 4+
flash htc official recovery (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img)
flash htc boot.img (fastboot flash boot boot.img)
check for OTA and flash it

Can't say it is noob question, actually )
Yes, you will be able to flash 3.14 RUU after custom 4.18, because custom ROM do not update firmware (HBOOT).
All you will need to do is the same steps, which you did before 3.14 RUU
Thanks a lot for all...
So lons as the HBOOT isn't changed, I can unlock, flash custom recovery and flash Sense 5 custom ROMs.
Then when I want to get back stocked, I can flash 3.14 RUU, rite ?

Yes, you are right.
As long as you do not touch firmware you can do whatever you want with JB ROMs.

if using nandroid backup relock is not necessary will also work with unlocked bootloader tried many times its working..
he just have to be sure to use stock boot.img and stock recovery from nandroid or the mainversion
