[Q] Back to Stock - HTC One X

I wanted to go back to stock to update via OTA, but i don't know how to do this... i'm on 1.28 custom rom.
I have to: download 1.28 stock rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546970 or here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1606676
Then i have to flash boot.img from the firmware package and flash the stock rom from recovery.
Then i can update to 1.29
Is that correct or I'll fall in errors?

have you got a back up of your stock rom that came with the phone?

Obviously not.
I was looking at the RUU thread and I saw that we have the 1.29 update for Europe. How can I apply it on my custom 1.28 rom?
Re-lock bootloader, flash stock recovery.IMG file from 1.29 firmware and then?
Please don't Terminate me

once you find the RUU you want follow the guide from the link. and once you are up and running again make sure you do a backup of it so you are on the safe side

OTA 1.29, is it ok to flash 1.28 custom ROM

If I took the 1.29 OTA today over Stock 1.28.
Can I just flash the Rom's required 1.28 boot image, and flash ROM via CWM ?
Yes, but you MUST flash the boot.img provided in whichever thread the ROM is posted in.

[Q] Upgrade to OTA JellyBean from a custom ICS rom

Hi, I have noticed that HTC_044 is receiving OTA updates to jellybean now, my CID is 044, Hboot version 0.96 and currently running AHD 9.7 custom rom. So how can I upgrade my phone to jellybean?
I have searched through some threads but still confuse with feasibility and step by step guide. The question is can I flash the first original ROM nandroid backup and use the software update from setting? I have to relock the bootloader and reflash original recovery? How do I know which recovery to use as there is 1.26, 1.28, 1.29? Or can I just download the OTA zip and flash it directly on AHD 9.7 custom rom? Or should I just wait developer to upgrade their ROM compatibility?
Thanks in advance
Err... That's a lot of questions.
If you restore your backup and boot.img and flash the stock recovery (I'm not sure which one hboot 0.96 corresponds to, but after booting the ROM you'll know), you should be able to.apply several OTAs to get to JB.
I assume your backup is old, so you will want Titanium backup or something.
An alternative is to relock your bootloader
fastboot oem lock
download 2.17.707.x RUU from htcruu.com (ENDEAVORU) which will wipe your phone. Then apply one OTA and unlock or whatever you want.
Thanks a lot for your patience in answering my loads of questions! I guess flashing RUU is the way to go right?
Or alternatively can I just flash Maximus 8.5 by following the steps provided and use the firmware update as provided in here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957376?
BTW, will there be any difference if I use Maximus update instead of RUU, because I heard people are receiving battery update from OTA?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26967480
I just did a very manual method.
- Was on AOKP and I restored my original sense stock backup
- fastboot original boot.img (from within that backup),
- fastboot stock recovery,
and it's currently updating via OTA.
Fingers crossed!

Yes, I did manual update too, running jellybean now.
using method by samuelong87, as for stock recovery, i extract from the original RUU(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30574349&postcount=859), and preserve my root via voodoo rootkeeper (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1670433). Awesome stuff!

you can extract the recovery from the original RUU, go to football's http://www.filefactory.com/f/7cc7b2fbdd03c031/ or http://www.htcruu.com/?dir=Endeavor (though often the RUU is corrupted), follow steps in here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30574349&postcount=859, then you are good to go You can find your RUU version via software version from your stock rom

Bootloader unlocked HTC One X OTA JB update
I've just unlocked my HTC One X and installed 'mike1986' ICS custom ROM but before I did that I saved my carrier's (3UK) JB update to my laptop's C:drive. Would it be possible to flash the 3UK JB update now and if so will it contain 3UK's bloatware?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nope won't work. You need to go back to your original 3UK stock rom and the stock recovery to be able to update.

Going back to stock

Just a quick question that I'm sure I know the answer to but want to double check first.
I want to return to stock firmware for OTA updates but im on ARHD 5.0 (4.4.2).
ROM version 1.54.401.5
My hboot in bootloader says HBOOT-3.16.0.000 and Radio 1.15.2133156.UA13G.
I've seen 2 guides on here for returning to stock. Can i use wither of them or is one better than the other? I dont have any nandroid or recovery backups that I did myself.

What was your original software version? Doesn't help going on ARHD's ROM version if you previously ran a Rogers Canadian version for example.
What was your CID? Software version prior to custom ROM?
More details then we can provide better help as well.

The original version would have been 4.4.2 as i bought it in June and installed ARHD pretty much straight away.
The CID is HTC_001
I havent installed any new kernals either.

Ok when I said version I meant 1.54.xxx.x etc but it's fine, HTC__001 would make it 1.54.401.5/10.
So go to the Collection thread(you posted link yourself in OP) and download the backup for the HTC__001 1.54.401.10. Restore the backup, flash back stock recovery(also available on that thread) and you're good for OTA.
Flash back stock recovery -
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
But you can also get the details on how to flash and where to unpack the backup .zip file you'll download in the first 2 posts of the collection thread. :good:

Sorry yes i was originally on 1.54.401.5 but then did an OTA to 1.154.401.10 before installing ARHD. Can I just flash the nandroid for 1.154.401.10 then and it will work?
Will I still be rooted If i restore the nandroid and stock recovery or will that depend if the uploader rooted it first? as i want root and keep unlocked bootloader but want stock firmware with OTA updates.

In general the nandroid backups aren't rooted, as they try to recover the original stock ROM. Thus you will loose root be going back to stock. I would do the following:
restore nandroid 1.54.401.10
flash 1.54.401.10 stock recovery
perform ota to 2.22.401.5
flash custom recovery (e.g. TWRP)
flash SuperSu zip
Following that way, you'll get your M8 updated to latest stock ROM and regain root.

Thanks that's perfect

Did you try to perform the OTA before or after reflashing the custom recovery?

For official OTAs, you need to return to stock ROM and stock recovery. Then you should be able to update by OTA, which will also update hboot.

No, you need to flash the stock recovery seperately. Get your stock ROM and recovery for your CID at the following thread (includes detailed instructions):

Another way to run the OTAs? For the most part NO. The exception being some US variants, where you can relock the bootloader and update by RUU. Otherwise, for non-US versions:
You need the stock ROM, otherwise the OTA will fail when it sees the /system (ROM) files have been modified from "stock".
You need the stock recovery, since this is required to actually install the OTA. Without the stock recovery, the OTA will attempt to install, fail, and you will be stuck in a bootloop as the phone keeps trying to reboot into stock recovery.
Unless you mean, is there another way to update hboot. The only other way would be to s-off the device by sunshine.
