SGH-T999L FW on the T999 - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hey I'll start by saying that while I'm no dev I'm not a complete noob. I bought a SGH-T999 from CL, however it's flashed with a FW from the 999L. I tried ODIN to stock, standard recovery, mobile ODIN pro. Nothing works. My main pet peeve is that I can't get a lock on my GPS, SMH makes me feel like I'm using my old Vibrant.

Remove battery cover and battery. Verify model number. We can go from there.

Mobile Odin does not yet support the T999L. Just so you know.

It's a 999 I verified it.
Sent from my SGH-T999L using xda app-developers app

Then do not flash firmware from any other variant. Probably whoever sold it to you just flashed my Rom hoping to get LTE.
Since it reports it's a T999L, mobile Odin won't work. You'll have to change the build.prop or flash a T999 Rom.

Probably just the model. Just be absolutely 200% sure the device is an original T999. If it's not M.O. can brick it. Same with any changes to the build.prop. make a mistake there and you can get the same result. Triple check.

Lol thank you for your Concern. Changing the build.prop did the trick. M.O pro started doing it's thing right away. I'm on stock Rom now and my speeds are where they should've been for a HSPA device.
Thanks again.

He'll be fine, flashing i9300 ROMs will brick him though. All US S3s have the same SoC so it won't do much, if any harm.

Just don't flash any radios OTHER THAN THE ONES FOR YOUR SPECIFIC CARRIER. like the poster above said, the ROMs for US (only) SGSIII variants are somewhat interchangeable.

4.1.2 on SGH-T999V?

Anyone knows if the SGH-T999V (Videotron, Wind, etc.) is getting the 4.1.2 update anytime soon?
I know they're usually slow with updates.

It should roll out in a week or two. I just have custom rom running 4.1.2 stock touchwiz try out axis rls 19. It's all themed but you can just choose stock and it has a lot of modifications.
I get s4 weather widget though. Here's the link:

I was on chat with a Videotron tech and he told me there's no date set for when the 4.1.2 firmware will be available.
I guess the same goes for all Canadian carriers of the S3 (version SGH-T999V).
Any news from Wind or the other Canadian carriers?

In the past they didnt announce a date, they just did it. Im certain itll happen though. Just gotta be patient I guess.
You can still flash one of the 4.1.2 roms based on the us version.

It seems we've been waiting long enough already but, what can we do?
I tried some of the roms based on 4.1.2 but I prefer to get the real update.
So, more of the waiting game!

I don't know what you mean by "real update" since the T999V's only difference is the baseband. If you get a stock rooted build of MD5 (Root66 is a great example), you have a "real update" to 4.1.2. Its just not official by Samsung but it will work the same as an official release would.
actually, there are more differences. Each of the 3 Canadian versions are very close to each other indeed, but there are small differences in what bloat is added. Plus I was also told one of them (videotron I think) uses different network technologies than the other two.
None of them have T-Mobile bloatware though and are quite lightweight in that regard I've been told.
You are correct though, that any of them can use each others builds (minus baseband) and can easily get 4.1.2 by doing so.

Question about the roms

What exactly is the reason that note 2 ROMs aren't compatible with all note 2? If you can flash modem/radios and edit apns then why won't any ROMs work?
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
There is more than one "Note II" some of them have different hardware or are cmda instead of gsm ect. There are different sections for each version so if you go into the section for your specific phone all the roms should work. APN's/modems only go so far but they can enable you to use At&t(i317)/Canadian carrier(i317m) roms and in some cases International LTE (N7105) roms
Flashing a different modem/radio on your device! That isn't for your device, then you'll have yourself quite a bit of problems on your hands. That's why they are different Rom's, for different devices!! For all the other countries!!
But look here!
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Enter your device model# up in the top right. And you'll see all the different Rom's for the different places!!

But if I flashed a Verizon or sprint ROM and while still in recovery flashed my modem (the modem for my phone of course)shouldn't that allow service for the phone. Besides that stuff what is so different file wise that they aren't universal.
BTW I haven't checked the links out yet I will when I get off work.

Ok what you need to UNDERSTAND is that if you flash something that had the modem included! Then you'll be looking at a very expense paperweight:banghead:!!! If no modem then possible you can take that ride??? But personally I wouldn't flash nothing that's not for my phone OKAY!!!
But do as you please to do, it's your device.
Good luck with your choices

I don't understand why so many people insist on flashing roms not found in our very own development section. Those are there for a reason.

I DID end up downloading eth firmware that was listed for my phone, but all that'll do is get me unrooted and back where I started at if nothing works right

OK all you have to do if you're on official nb4 is flash the stock 1 in Odin then root again and use triangle away to reset your binary counter then delete root files.
